Renaming .jpg to .tbn - how?

I’m using my Mac mini as a media centre running xbmc and I’m having some issues getting the software to pick up my custom artwork.
In the XBMC Wiki it says to rename the file extension from a (.jpg) to a (.tbn)
http://www.xbmc.org/wiki/index.php?title=Thumbnails
When I do this, my artwork is still not picked up. Grrrr!
Now... when you rename a (.jpg) file by double-clicking on it only the file name is highlighted and not the (.JPG) extension which is fine and how it should be. But when I try to do that on a file with a (.tbn) extension the whole (filename.tbn) becomes highlighted – which says to me that the (.tbn) extension has become part of the file name and not an extension anymore. Any ideas?
To rename name them I’ve been using the Get-info and renaming them in there.
Is there anything I can do to get this working?
Many thanks.

My fault – just figured out what you meant. So I now have 313x209px size images now and all is good.

You need Lightroom 5.5 or later (the most current version is 5.7.1). This is a free update if you have already purchased an earlier version of Lightroom 5.

I have an Ipod touch that was given to me recently and I need to delete the acct. name and rename the device.
    How do I do this???

See the linked I provided in my first post above.  However, if you have already updated the device in iTunes it should do the same thing, erasing all content on the device and resetting all settings since you have connected to a new/different iTunes library from what it was originally set up with.
If after the restore, the same Apple ID is still showing up (the old one), head to Settings -> Store and sign out of that account and then sign in using your own Apple ID credentials.

    Wait, I just caught this:

Are you referring to the 3-letter ".jpg" extension being deleted?  You can't do that, of course!  If that is still the case, you'll have to add it manually to each JPEG file.

  • .jpg file extensions - how to find/add?

    Hi, all:
Kind of a noob question... when I switched from the Dark Side, I imported all of the photos that were on my PC into my Mac. For whatever reason, the .jpg file extension was not appended to those photo files, and so iPhoto does not display them in its "Info." I only see the filename itself, not the ".jpg" part (iPhoto does display the .jpg extension for all photos I downloaded into iPhoto).
    So, my two questions are:
    1) Where/how can I find the individual files that are in my iPhoto library, so that I can see which ones do not have the extension?
    2) Is there an easy way to add the .jpg extension to each file that doesn't have it, an app, or shareware, or something? Renaming 2,000+ individual files does not appeal to me...
    Thanks!
    Bill in CT

You can't add the jpg extension once the photo has been imported into iPhoto. It needs to be done before you import. If you add the extension to photos already in the library that's the same as changing the file name and will break the file path to the original file. You will get the dreaded "!" if you try to edit or use the photos in a book or slideshow.
You really don't need to add the extension for iPhoto to operate correctly. If you need the photos outside of iPhoto and need them to have the extension you can export them out of iPhoto via the File ➙ Export ➙ File Export menu option. Set the Format = JPEG with the other settings as you see fix and you'll get the new files with the .jpg extension.

It sounds like your file associations are messed up and Reader is trying to open your .jpg files. Is this correct?
If so, you just need to change the associations to choose what application opens them. Here's how: Change File Associations in Mac OS X

  • Case SeNSiTiVe file renaming (.JPG - .jpg)

    Hi,
Is there any way when renaming files to assure the case of the file name extension? I want "P100385.JPG" to be renamed "filename-sequence.jpg". I have no problem setting "filename-sequence" but JPG always ends up in upper case and I want to force lower case.
    Any tips/tricks/pointers would be appreciated.

Right - of course - WinXP Pro.
Now, the thing is that XP will respect case on the file name (ex: file.JPG, file.jpg, etc.) but treats upper and lower case the same (ex: file.JPG is the same as file.jpg).
Unix, on the other hand, treats case differently so that file.JPG and file.jpg are two different files. Since I upload files to a unix box I'm concerned for consistent case (lower - because I like it that way). I did notice that the Web module exports lower case file names but I'm not always using that.
    Thanks.

  • File sync error after renaming jpg file on desktop

I changed the file name of a photo in my desktop backup of my Treo 755p photos from the default format of Photo_[date]_xyz.jpg to Matisse by fire2_101208.jpg.
    The path is:
    C:\Program Files\Palm\[username]\Photos\offline copy location\7dba\Palm on Card\Matisse by fire2_101208.jpg
Now I get the following error after hotsync.
Unable to sync media file 'Matisse by fire2_101208.jpg' on desktop. Error code: 32.
    OK Media with 1 message(s)
I also changed two others to
    Matisse by fire1_101208.jpg and
    Matisse by fire3_101208.jpg
but am not getting errors on those.
I can open the file specified so I don't think it is corrupted.
    I'm using Hotsync 6.0.1.
I could not find error 32 anywhere. Is ther a list of all the Hotsync errors somewhere?
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,

as far as i understood the explanation, you renamed the picture manually by going into the path that you stated in your post right?
when your rename the file, have you check if it did show the file extensions?
try to reveal the file extensions by going back to the location (folder). click on tools>folder options>view>uncheck hide extensions for known file types.
then click ok. try to see on what's the difference in the 3 files you mentioned. i suspect that the erring file has 2 jpeg extensions on it.

    Hello andyball_uk
Thankyou for your advise. I do agree that the problem on the server end and when trying to ctrl-alt click on the link I get a Download.php file. THe webmails Costumer service basically told me to f* o** since they didnt and wouldnt support OSX.
    But i found another workaround:
Since my OS is the danish version some translations might be wrong, pls correct if so.
Created Download folder on desktop, set Safari to use that as a download folder. Unchecked "Open safe files..:" too. the file now saves in that folder.
Created an Automater workflow who is to rename finder items from .jpg.pdf to .jpg. AND then open finder item.
Saved as accessory to foldercommands, applied the folder and voila.
    Its works.
Thx for the reply, I consider this solved.

  • Photoshop saves images as jpg.lnk.  How do I stop that?  I just want jpg.  Cannot email jpg.lnk.

In Photoshop I save an image as jpg, but it saves as jpg.lnk.
This is a file that cannot be emailed.  It gets blocked as a dangerous file.
How do I eliminate the ltd?
    Thank you,

    Hi,
    Only saw it in Outlook.
Thats the only place it would show the file as jpg.lnk instead of just jpg.

  • Renaming jpg files

I want to rename about 500 jpg files whose sizes range from 2.5 to 4.5 MB each.  If I use the "Process Multiple Files" in PE 9, and change ONLY the name , will this affect the quality in any appreciable way?

If  you choose a high quality JPG, it is unlikely (but no guarantee) that  you will see a difference.
If you really want to rename without causing a JPG file to be saved and losing quality, use the Organizer Rename command.

Paige is right : I just tested it and the 'process multiple files' without entering any edits ended with files with less than one quarter of the initial size... and raw .CR2 files were saved as .PSD... When choosing 'convert to jpeg max quality', the results were nearly the same size as originals for jpegs which means you should not see any difference. If you don't follow the advice to use the Organizer, don't forget to choose this option, otherwise the compression will be very strong.

  • Imported RAW+JPG ... how to delete all JPG's?

I wanted to see the difference between raw RAW images and JPG's created within the camera, so I imported all 600 pictures like that (300 RAW, 300 JPEG's). I set RAW as the Master and I see that I can set JPEG as Master afterwards, if I want.
    Questions:
    1) What is the easiest way to view the JPEG version? The only way I've found is to duplicate the image and then set JPEG as master.
    2) How do I go about deleting all (or some) of my 300 JPG images now? Isn't there a "show in Finder"-option so I can delete them like that (rather than navigating the Aperture library file/folder myself, potentially screwing up something) - or how is it supposed to be done?
    Thanks.

On Import you should have set "Raw + JPEG Pairs" to "Both - Separate Masters".

You should do all you file maintenance from inside Aperture. It's a Digital Asset Manager, and the files are a very big part of your digital assets.
The filter HUD has a rule accurately titled "File Type". Use it to filter for JPGs. Select them all. Delete them.
If you haven't made any adjustments and still have the images on card or disk, you might consider selected them all, deleting the Masters as well as the versions, and then re-importing. Common practice among raw shooters is to not import the JPG files and let Aperture generate its own (some do, though).
    Thanks.
