Renaming .mov file corrupts data

Recently I used Data Rescue 2 to recover my external HDD data after an accidental partition. The result was that Data Rescue 2 found all of the video files and marked them with a generic file name in a numbered sequence. Eg: QT0023.mov, QT0024.mov ect. These files play fine in Quicktime, and once imported to iTunes also play properly. The problem is, when I rename the files in iTunes to the proper titles, the file becomes unplayable in both iTunes and by Quicktime. Quicktime reports that the file is not a movie file, while iTunes gives no error.
Anyone?

Hello
I have one folder with several mov files each with a different name.
I also have 2 text files in the same folder.
ORIGINAL.txt file with the current mov filename in the folder.
RENAME.txt file with the replace names for each file.
Is the only content in the file the names?  Are the files actually named ORIGINAL.txt and RENAME.txt?
In Terminal, if you enter: cat RENAME.txt, do  you get the new filename?

  • Renaming a file to date and time after unziped

    I have a google earth kmz that is downloaded to our root directory. I am wanting to see how to rename this file after it is droped into our directory. Here is what I have so far.
    <cfif FileExists("#expandpath(".")#/temp.zip")>
    Got it .... extract....<br />
        <cfzip action="unzip" file="#expandpath(".")#/temp.zip"
        destination="#expandpath(".")#"
        overwrite="true">
        </cfzip>
    Right now the code above unzips the file and places the KMZ in the root drive. I wanted to rename the file the current  date like as follows RT_2010_03_17_12_00.kmz
    I have no idea how to accomplish this.

    The <cffile action="rename"...> is what I would look at using.

  • Renaming movie file

    I can't rename one of my movie files in itunes. Everytime I change the title through the info, it goes back to the original title. I checked to make sure that I had read/write privleges and I do. What should I do?

    iTunes will rename the finder file name to match the "Name" column of the iTunes window. If you rename the file from the finder then play the file via iTuens it will again be renamed to match the "Name" column.
    To rename items then do it from the iTunes window and not the finder. Also make suer the file is not locked.

  • Renaming .mov files

    I am using FCP 6.0.6. I need to rename many of the .mov files used in my FCP projects. Will I be able to reconnect them once, or will I need to reconnect the media everytime? What else should I be on the look out for?
    Alternatively, I have a back up hard drive with all the files organized. Can I use that hard drive with the FCP sequences I've built using another hard drive? Will it be able to match sequences based on duration?
    Thanks.

    You would be hard pressed to be able to reconnect them at all.  Unless you remembered the original names of every file, and reconnected one at a time. This is a BAD idea.  You rename BEFORE you edit.  If you rename, you reimport into the project...don't do it after you started editing. Bad bad bad bad...

  • Movie files corrupted

    movie files imported in iPhoto seems to be all corrupted. is it possible to rescue them?

    We need more information than you've provided to offer a potential solution.  We need to know the details of your problem and situation, i.e.:
    what version of iPhoto are you using?
    what system version are you running?
    what do you see when you launch iPhoto to open your library?
    what fixes have you tried before coming here?
    where is you library located?
    where were the files imported from?
    how long has this been occuring?
    did you apple any updates or upgrades just prior?
    are you running a "managed" or "referenced" library?
    what type of Mac?
    how much free space on your boot drive?

  • Movie file corrupts when added

    I have been adding different movies successfully to the menu on iDVD, but one file corrupts when added. The file will open and play outside of iDVD with no problems. Any suggestions?

    Hi
    iMovie and iDVD are very picky on what they can or can not use for VIDEO CODECS !
    To find out what a specific video file has for CODEC
    - open it with QuickTime player (can open so so many more)
    - press cmd+I (turns on inspector)
    - read - video formatted as: nnnnnnnnnnnnnn
    and frames per second: YY.yy
    What does they say ?

  • Quicktime movie file corrupted and will not run

    I created a quicktime movie using an appllication called Wirecast. Before the quicktime file was stopped, I ran out of hard disk space and the QT file shut down incomplete. I have tried all the easily available tools to 'recover' the file and they do not work. Is there anyone who can suggest a name or is able to manipulate the file to enable it to be read by any appllication. It contains a childs baptism and the family is distraught that it failed? Thank you.
    Warren

    I used the services of http://aeroquartet.com/movierepair/ to repair my corrupted Quictime file. Although it was more expensive than I anticipated, the service was absolutely first rate, the solution is brilliant and the Treasured application written by these people is amazing. I cannot recommend this solution more highly if you have a corrupted video file. Even given the cost of $149US for mu sepcific solution, it can be used on other files, is simple to apply and an irreplaceable memory has been saved. Special thanks to Benoit and his team (or just him). Amazing. Warren

  • Compressing Large .Mov Files to Data DVD

    Hello everyone. I was looking for some advice on how best to compress the HD footage of a wedding I did, onto Data DVD's, so that if the family would ever want to do anything with the footage, they would be able to access it. I am aware that in compressing it, there is a loss of quality but It would be overkill to have them buy a hard drive and all that. I'm not overly worried about the quality being HD in the raw footage because I already have the best parts on the finished Wedding DVD. My question is, what format do I compress it to? I want to do in .MOV because I feel that it be the most universal and highest quality in years to come, but how do I get a 70 GB HD File down to under 4 gigs for the disc? I also want the audio and video file to be linked if possible. Any thoughts? Thanks.

    I'm in a similar situation. My first project worked fine, but now I have a problem with my second project.
    So far I've just been doing weddings in SD but I wanted to start experimenting with HD and so borrowed a Panasonic HS700 video camera to use for the stationary wide angle shot. One of the couples I dealt with this summer have a computer hooked up to their HDTV, so I gave them a DVD data disk with the 1920 x 1020 HD footage of the ceremony, reception speeches, and first few dances: a total of 96 minutes that used up 3.3 GB of data. This works out to about 0.58 MB/sec. The quality is fairly soft, but that actually helped reduce some of the graininess from a low-lighted hall. Quite adequate quality under the circumstances and it fit on a regular DVD.
    I was encouraged by this so thought I would do it again on the next wedding. Using the exact same custom setting I had made in Compressor, I encoded the 39 minute ceremony but this time it used up 7 GB (2.94 MB/sec) which doesn't fit on a regular DVD. The only difference in the footage is it was an outdoor ceremony on a sunny day, so the palette of colors is much more varied than the dingy hall of the first wedding (thinking back to the days when I was concerned about the size of jpegs). But it was an essentially static scene, so why would it take up 5 times the memory space?
    A cheap alternative in this case would be an 8GB USB drive, but for future reference, I'd like to know why the difference between the two projects.
    Here are the settings: I basically took an H.264 preset and lowered the Quality from High to Medium (don't know what bit rate that represents - not sure what the numbers in the last few lines mean).
    Name: H.264 Medium Quality with AAC
    Description: QuickTime H.264 video with PCM audio at 48 kHz. Settings based off the source resolution and frame-rate.

  • Create folder (rename), move files and delete source

    This seems a simple and obvious need but I cant find anything to help.
    I want to be able to create a folder with a unique name (I would prefer to input the folder name when the workflow is run), move some files into it, and ensure the source files in the original location are deleted.
    The problem with the create new folder action as it stands is that it COPIES any files passed into it. I want to MOVE the files into a new folder.
    Am I missing something obvious?

    There's no out of the box way to achieve what you're looking for.
    Two solutions:
    1. Your users would need to open the entry first and then click on the "edit this file" link.
    2. You could code your own folder view or landing page element and build what you need.

  • Renamed video file corrupted

    I renamed a Camera Roll video file in Windows 8 File Explorer while my Lumia 1020 was connected to my PC. The renaming seems to have removed metadata so that the video will no longer play on my phone. In File Explorer it shows a time length of 00:00:00 but the file size is still greater than 1GB.
    Is there any way to recover from this mistake?
    Thanks,
    Linden

    will it play on your PC by any chance still?

  • Canon 5D Mark II .mov file corrupt Need help

    I have one file captured during a video session that I cannot copy, edit without locking the entire computer and having to hard start the machine. I need this file to finish editing a job. All the other files from this session work flawlessly with this one exception. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cant cut, paste, delete, save as, export, any function without crashing. When I try to export or save as it stops at a certain point and freezes the maching. Export not responding, save as not responding. Then I have to restart

    It is because your 5D Mark II files are sRAW images, not raw. (The full 5D Mark II raw files are usually over 20 MB, not ~8 MB.) When you process sRAW files into DNG files, the DNG files are stored in the "linear DNG" format, which is much bigger than the sRAW format.
    p.s., these questions should be directed to the Camera Raw, Lightroom, or DNG forums in the future to get a faster reply.

  • Is there an alternative to Canon CameraWindow to import photos and rename the files to include shooting date?

    I've used Canon's CameraWindow software for years to import large quantities of photos direct from my SD card, specifically because it renames the files based on date taken and nicely orgnizes them into folders.  I save those to an external HD and import them to my iphoto library.  Now after moving to Lion, CameraWindow isn't compatible because it's a PowerPC app I guess.  I can't find any update via Canon.  I don't really use any of the other EOS Utilities, I just want to be able to rename those files by dates, which is why I don't use iphoto to import and I've seen that suggested in other places.  I'm happy to abandon Canon software all together if there is an alternative out there.  Thanks for any suggestions!

    Most professional photo management software can batch-rename files using metadata such as date, and can organize into date folders on import. I know that Adobe Lightroom and the Photo Downloader in Adobe Bridge can do this, and I think Apple Aperture and PhaseOne MediaPro can too. All of these programs are maintained for OS X compatibility better than Canon and Nikon software are.
    Have you looked at Canon's camera software page? They have Canon software that works with Lion and later, the only question is whether the software for your specific camera has been updated.

  • Nikon D7000 .MOV files in Premiere Pro and After Effects CS5.5

    I recently upgraded from Production Premium CS5 to CS5.5. Initially Nikon D7000 .MOV files used in previous CS5 Premiere Pro project would not play well in CS5.5. Now .MOV files do work in both PP and AE CS5.5. Here are the steps I followed. Not recommending you follow my steps exactly, just providing info for those that are interested.
    1.       Launch Premiere Pro CS5.5 and open previous PP CS5 project, convert project to CS5.5 and rename project file as not to replace previous CS5 project file.
    a.       At this point .MOV files do not play in new project or in AE CS5.5
    b.      Close Premiere Pro and After Effect if still running.
    2.       Using Adobe Bridge CS5.5, batch rename;
    a.       Make copies of original files to new folder location while renaming file extension from .MOV to .mpg
    b.      Let Adobe Bridge finish creating all new thumbnail previews.
    c.       Leave Bridge running in background.
    3.       Launch Premiere Pro CS5.5, let Premiere finish recreating thumbnail previews if needed.
    a.       Attempt to preview existing .MOV file in project. It worked for me.
    b.      Attempt to play sequence containing .MOV files. It worked for me.
    c.       Attempt to play or modify sequence .MOV files in AE CS5.5 via Dynamic Link within Premiere. It worked for me.
    d.      Close Premiere Pro project and AE projects if open.
    4.       Create new Premiere Pro project and sequence
    a.       Import a different Nikon D7000 .MOV file not previously used or renamed.
    b.      Attempt to play this newly imported .MOV file. This worked for me as well.
    c.       The new, previously un-renamed .MOV file also worked in AE CS5.5 for me.
    I will perform additional tests but at the moment Nikon D7000 .MOV files are working for me in CS5.5 after initially performing a batch rename in Bridge CS5.5 from .MOV to .mpg and letting Bridge create preview files. Even .MOV files not renamed now work.
    An example of Nikon D7000 footage edited with Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5, After Effects CS5.5, and Sound Booth CS5 can be seen on my blog, http://stevelandonsmyth.typepad.com/steve-landon-smyths-blog/2011/07/my-first-hd -video-shoot-with-nikon-d7000.html

    Hello,
    I see 2 post in this thread from Todd that say they are working on a fix and it should be out soon.  One is from July, the other from August.  It is now Sept 7th and I still see no patches or fixes for any bugs.  I spent 400 dollars on an upgrade, but is this upgrade going to be supported?
    This is making me rethink upgrading to the .5's in the future.
    It is a minor bug to most, but in that sense it should be an easy quick fix. Am I wrong? Is this really a complicated issue?
    I apologize if this comes off like a rant, but thats kinda what it is.  It is not hard to batch rename files, but its a pain to have to relink all those files in PP.

  • Can't rename movie in iTunes

    I imported a few home movies into iTunes. However a few of them can't be renamed. What ever I tried, the name was reset to the old name. I've tried
    renaming the name field in iTunes (directly in the list but also in the "Info"-Window - new file name is accepted but disappears
    copying the movie file to the desktop;
    deleting the movie from iTunes (I selected to delete the file too and verified that it was deleted);
    renaming the movie-file on the desktop to the desired name;
    importing the renamed movie-file into iTunes
    result: the renamed file appeared in the folder where the original file was but about half way through the copying process it is being renamed to the old name (under which it appears also in the iTunes list).
    I should mention that the iTunes library is on a Synology DiskStation. ...urgently need help - any idea what can be done? Thanks!!

    iTunes will rename the finder file name to match the "Name" column of the iTunes window. If you rename the file from the finder then play the file via iTuens it will again be renamed to match the "Name" column.

  • No video (black), audio only, from imported .mov files

    Bear with me while I explain the whole process to get where I am, which is that in FCE, I am importing .mov files and they are completely black, no video, just audio.  When I bring a clip into the timeline and try to render even a small clip, it is still black.
    I'm not well-versed in video so please bear with me:
    Steps:
    1.  I received large video files from a videographer
    2.  the large files could not be imported or played in FCE
    3.  downloaded HandBrake converter and began converting files.  Kept them at the same size, but they were then renamed .mov files.
    4.  When I open them in QuickTime, they are black - no video.  But when I see them on the drive and press spacebar in 'finder' to play them, I can see the video.
    5.  When I import them into FCE they are black - no video - just audio.
    FCE is currently set (in Easy Setup) to:  AVCHD-Apple Intermediate Codec 1920-1080i60
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.  I tried converting one file to mp4 and it works fine in FCE, but this takes a long, long time to convert.
    thanks
    There is a 2nd issue that may relate to this:  I am trying to import JVC .m4v files and I am getting "File error 1 file(s) recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unkown".  These files CAN be opened in Quicktime.
    FCE HD 4.0.1
    Mac OS 10.6.8

    I'm having similar, but slightlly different issues.
    I have been using FCE 4 on Mac OSX 10.7.5 with Quicktime 10.1 (501.29).
    I convert my footage in Mpeg Streamclip (GREAT free program) and set the files to the Apple Intermediate Codec.  This makes them work really well in my timeline and I don't have rendering issues or problems.
    So, my problem comes when I File/Export/Quictime Movie.
    The original file plays fine, but they're 2-3 gbs each, so I put them into Quicktime to convert them to a webfriendly size, but every single time they come out as an audio only file.  GRRRR!
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Maybe I'm missing something stupid.
    Thanks so much for your help.
    Sincerely,
    Steve
