Renaming my pictures on my desktop?

Hi guys,
Not sure if this question belongs here. If not, please let me know where to ask.
I use Tiger. To organize my pictures I use Iphoto. I back the pictures up by creating a folder on my desktop, and dragging all my pictures into that folder.
This xmas, I created a folder on my desktop with my pictures AND pictures from another camera. All of my pictures are named DSC800 to 900. The pictures from my friends camera are named DSC1800 to 1857.
I would like to organize the pictures in my folder by the date they were taken, but they are now being organized by name. So even though the pictures from my friends camera were taken on Dec.31st, (before my pics) they still appear after all of my pictures because they are named DSC1800 and up.
Is there a way to change several file names all at once? Ex. Highlight 57 files and name them all pictures.1 pictures.2 etc???
This may sound like a complicated question. Please let me know if Im understood and if you can help.
Thanks a million.

There are several utilities out there that can do the renaming painlessly for you. My favorite is [File Buddy|http://www.skytag.com/filebuddy>, which can do that and much more. Or visit [VersionTracker|http://www.versiontracker.com/macosx/index.shtml] and do a search.

  • Why can't I upload a picture from my desktop to put with an ebay auction

I purchased an Intel Based Imac, 24" screen, in November and initially had problems uploading pictures from my desktop to put with my ebay auctions. After several attempts I was able to complete this task. However, 4 days ago, I'm now no longer able to upload any more pictures. I'm experiencing one of two problems, either I don't see the browse tab from the ebay site to search for the picture I want to upload, or I'm able to click the browse tab, choose the picture I want and start the uploading process, but soon after the picture starts to upload, the process stops. I'm able to do this task on my PC laptop. Any ideas as to what is wrong?

I don't see the browse tab from the ebay site to search for the picture I want to upload
I've had that incomplete browse tab thing happen - where there's no button to click - and concluded it's either an eBay issue or an ISP issue. However, for me, I was able to come back to it half an hour later and no problem doing the photo upload.
Were you blocking pop-up windows at the time?
I've also had the photo fail to upload, but never (yet) failed on the second attempt. I determined that the failure was due to my starting the upload process too quickly - before my thumbnail was showing after selecting the photo to be used. I just had to wait a few seconds more in the process to resolve that.

  • Old pictures on the desktop and invisible dock when I change user

I have a late 2011 macbook pro with Mountain Lion installed. This problem came out with this OS. In practice, when I log in with my secondary account (without password) and change to the administrator account (with password), the Mac loads old pictures on the desktop, and the thing where the dock's icons usually stand is invisible.
This appears not to be shown when I log back into the secondary one and re-log in the Admin.
Why this happens? And how do I fix it? Help please, it's getting quite annoying...
    Thank you

Most likely one of the two computers has a corrupt data which is not allowing the Sync to complete.
The Refresh feature (called "Reset" in older Firefox versions) can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your bookmarks, history, passwords, cookies, and other essential information.
'''''Note:''' When you use this feature, you will lose any extensions, toolbar customizations, and some preferences.'' See the [[Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings]] article for more information.
    To Refresh Firefox:
    # Open the Troubleshooting Information page using one of these methods:
#*Click the menu button [[Image:New Fx Menu]], click help [[Image:Help-29]] and select ''Troubleshooting Information''. A new tab containing your troubleshooting information should open.
#*If you're unable to access the Help menu, type '''about:support''' in your address bar to bring up the Troubleshooting Information page.
#At the top right corner of the page, you should see a button that says "Refresh Firefox" ("Reset Firefox" in older Firefox versions). Click on it.
#Firefox will close. After the refresh process is completed, Firefox will show a window with the information that is imported.
#Click Finish and Firefox will reopen.
Did this fix the problem? Please report back to us!
    Thank you.

  • I am running snow leopard 10.6.8. on my IMAC. How can I post panoramic type pictures to my desktop so that they maintain panoramic dimensions? Thanks

How can I post panoramic type (and sized) pictures to my desktop so that they maintain panoramic dimensions? I try to do it through systems preferences but they do not maintain panoramic dimensions. Thanks

Your post is pretty lengthy and I have to admit I didn't read it all. Please try restarting in Safe Mode, if that doesn't work please do both a SMC and PRAM reset. These may take 2-3 attempts.
    SMC RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and all peripherals.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    Release the power button.
    Attach the computers power cable.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    PRAM RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • What happened to the pull down picture control for desktop pictures?

What happened to the pull down picture control for desktop pictures? Today as I was changing my desktop picture I saw the control that allows you to adjust the picture vannish!
Where did it go and how do I get it back?

Solved my own problem. From the finder I opened a picture that I wanted to use for my desktop with Firefox and from there I opened the Desktop and Screensaver preferences and the missing pulldown was back.
My theory of the problem is that I had selected the "Change Picture" box and that eliminated the picture adjustment pull-down menu and it didn't come back after deselecting the "Change Picture" box.

  • How to down load pictures from my desktop

How do I download pictures from my desktop computer to my IPad please. If I go to Itunes I can find now way of doing this, is there a special ITunes site? I have my Ipad connected to my computer but nothing happens???

Another way. You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

  • Moving gif Picture on the desktop

On my old pc, I had a gif picture on the desktop that moved. It was an American flag waving in the wind. I would like to have that on my iMac. Is there a way I can do this? Help is appreciated.

This might solve your problem: Open IPhoto and click on Share, select Desktop. Then go to System preferences, select the Desktop and Screensaver, then select Choose Folder, then select IPhoto, and a new folder called IPhoto should appear along with the other background folders (e.g. Plants, Pictures Folder). Click the new IPhoto and select the photo you want. In my case, I like to select the feature that allows random changes every 15 minutes. Hope this works.

  • I renamed my picture folders and now am having iPhoto trouble

I renamed my file folders for my photos so I could recognize them easier and now I'm having trouble with iPhoto. When I double click on the thumbnail I get a "!". Is there a way to fix this?

    shandymae:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You've committed the cardinal sin of iPhoto: Don't mess with files in the iPhoto Library folder from the Finder
Unless you can rename those folder back to what they were you'll have to start with a fresh library and import the Originals folder from the old library as follows:
Creating a new library while preserving the Events from the original library.
Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
Open the library package like this.
Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
Drag the Originals folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open iPhoto window.
This will create a new library with the same Events as the original library if you have the Finder checkbox unchecked in the Events preference pane.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • I  renamed my picture file, now I can't find my photos. Where did my photos go?

Is there a way of telling Logic that it's the same drive?
Choose Go to Folder from the Finder's Go menu, enter /Volumes/ as the path, and move any folders inside to the desktop; when done, unmount and remount the drive from the Disk Utility in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder.

  • How do I use the same pictures for all desktops

I am trying to use the same folder of picture across all my desktops.  It seems that every desktop I have to go in to preferences and click the same thing over and over.  Is there a way to do it once and apply it across all desktops?

The only way I know is to delete all the desktops and then add them back.  They will all default to the picture in Desktop 1.

  • My macbook pro screen shot isn't saving the picture on the desktop.

Hi so today I wanted to save something I was looking up online by taking a screen shot. before I've taken screen shots using comman + shift + 3 or 4 and it would automatically save on my desktop but now it isn't doing that. but i still hear the shutter sound. i haven't changed any of the preferences or anything. how do i fix this? please help!

In Mac Help, there is this notation regarding screen shots:
Some applications, such as DVD Player, may not let you take pictures of the screen.
What other applications there may be, I don't know.  Maybe this applies to your lost screen shot?
The last thing to try is PREVIEW>FILE>NEW FROM CLIPBOARD.
This then exhausts my ammunition on this item.
    Your post of Dec 12, 2011 3:33 AM seems to raise a new problem;
ALL my files are on this current account that doesn't take screen shots...and I don't know how to move everything from my documents, to my pictures in iPhoto and music in iTunes.
I suggest you repost this with more details, thus increasing you audience.
    Ciao.

  • Opening pictures from the desktop with iphoto

    Hey guys,
When I download pics onto my desktop (or anywhere else for that matter) (say a friend skype me some pics) and i want to open them with iphoto to store them in the relevant roll or album, i have to go through all the hassle of :
    -ctrl click
    -open with
    -other
-look for iphoto in the list of programs
Is there any way I can put iphoto directly in the list of program i get by ctrl clicking on a picture file? The only think i can think of is "always use this program", but then again i don't always want to do that...
Thanks a lot! It would save so much time in the end...

You can also import a complete folder of jpegs by drag and drop.
Its slightly trickier but will work. Some practise may be needed.
Select the library and scroll down to the bottom of the album pane. Pick up the folder and move the mouse pointer to a spot to the right of the Trash and between the lowest album and the one above. When a black line apears around the entire album pane just relase the folder and it will be imported as a complete album bearing the folder name.
