Renaming on import issue.

I am attempting to rename my files on import with LR4. I am selecting the "Custom Name-Original file number" option, but not getting the result I want. For a file with the number 0123, from the camera, when I put SMITH in the custom text box I should get "SMITH-0123" however I get a file that looks like "SMITH-2-134" and the sequence goes from there. The next file could have a name like "SMITH-3-199". Often there are a few in order, then is skips. I have no other files in this folder with the same custom name, so it's not seeing it as a duplicate. Any ideas as to how I can correct this naming?

Actually, I'm having this problem as well as another with importing in LR3.
I have been using LR for years and have a very simple system. I store original files in a folder by year and then in subfolders by 8 digit date, e.g. Pictures\Original Images\2010\2010.07.04 July 4th Celebration\camera filenames.NEF. I then import them into LR into the same file system (essentially a duplicate file structure but under \Pictures\LightroomImages\2010\--all the subfolders)
In the past I've always been able to import the folder, e.g. "2010.07.04 July 4th Celebration" and at the same time rename the files inside with a custom preset which used the image CAPTURE date.
Now, in LR3, when I try to do this two weird problems happen:
1) The folder name is automatically set as the month and year. E.g. despite my custom name of the source folder, in my example the destination folder would be named "07-04" by LR
And
2) The photo renaming example using my existing preset now shows not capture date, but MODIFIED date.
I can't seem to change either thing and I can't figure out what is going on.
Any thoughts?
I'm on a Mac Pro v10.5.8, dual core, 12GB. LR 3.2.

  • Strange import issue .. no longer works in 2.6 or Beta 3

    Strange import issue.
I use LR-2.6 everyday but have only played around with the LR-3 for a limited amount of time so the other day I decided check it out and tried to import a handful of RAW(canon) files on a SDxc-8g card via a USB card reader. I set it up to copy and convert to DNG, apply a few keywords and Metadata but when I tried it acted like it imported the first image and then froze. Card reader lights stopped blinking and just stayed on, program task bar doesn’t show any progress, not even for the first image. I then went to the folder that I was going to have the images copies to and it contained a file of the first image, but there is no indication that LR-3 even created it and it doesn’t show up in the catalog. When I tried to close out LR-3 is popped up the “in the middle of a task warning” so I just closed the program and tried it a couple more times to no avail.
So I though o well I will just open up LR-2.6 and import them from there, guess what now LR-2.6 does the exact same thing!!
I thought maybe my card reader was a POS but I was able to drag all the files to a new folder on my desktop and import them from there, nope. Tried rebooting a couple times, even opened a new catalog to test with, in both LR-2.6 and LR-3 and neither will work..
    I am stumped any ideas?

    Thank you for everyone's assistance
I actually figured out what the problem was, like most issues it comes back to operator error, it seem I had inadvertently chose a "rename file on import" template that I had set up to name the files based on a custom fill-in field in the Meta Data, I normally only used that template when I was exporting images that had been completely edited, so being these images were new imports that field was blank, hence it would import the first image and then do to " don't import subjected duplicates" being checked it would just stop the import process.

  • Files Renamed when importing to LR4 and now can't find them in LR3

    Help!  What should I do???
Yesterday I installed LR 4 Beta.  I had a folder with 300 images in it on LR 3, obviously all files had names.  I imported these photos into LR4 to work with LR4 and they were renamed in the process.  Now in my LR3 folder, all the files still have there old names and the "missing photo ?" and I assume that's because the name has been changed and LR3 can't find them.  Any thoughts on an easy fix?
    Thanks,
    Matthew Kraus

Thanks so much for helping me with this.
I must admit, I didn't pay too much attention when importing this "test"
group of photos to LR4, therein lies my problem.  Now that I look at the
    import settings that were used:
    1. Files were not added or copied, they were "moved" to a new location and
    also renamed.
    2. Files were renamed starting with "264" using my regular import template.
Listed below are the first 10 photos with their original LR3 and he
    changed LR4 names.
    1201_001 changed to 1201_264-2
    1201_002 changed to 1201_265-2
    1201_003 changed to 1201_266-2
    1201_004 changed to 1201_267-2
    1201_005-Edit-Edit changed to 1201_268-2
    1201_005-Edit changed to 1201_269-2
    1201_005-Edit changed to 1201_270-2
    1201_005-Edit-Edit-2 changed to 1201_271-2
I have a back up of my images on an EHD from several days ago which has the
original file names, but this backup only has 203 of the 268 images I
    imported yesterday and are renamed.
    Thanks again,

  • IMPORT issues: Works with iMovie 3 but not iMovie 6 ???

Okay, still trying to get my import issue resolved.
    I have a SONY HDR-HC3 DVmini.
No problems with iMovie 3 on my Powerbook.
iMovie 6 on my MDD will let me control the camera, but the screen stays BLUE with no IMPORT.
My buddy thinks it might be a Quicktime issue.
He said to download Quicktime Pro, that might resolve this issue.
I can copy the iMovie 3 file to my machine with iMovie 6 and do the editing, just not the importing...

    Hi
    Can be so much.
Often Camera has to be connected to Charger/mains during Capture.
An majority is a faulthy - badly connected FW-Cable (USB don't work at all)
    My list on this
    *NO CAMERA or A/D-box*
    Cable
    • Sure that You use the FireWire - USB will not work for miniDV tape Cameras
FireWire - Sure not using the accompany USB-Cable but bought a 4-pin to 6-pin FW one ?
    • Test another FW-Cable very often the problem maker.
    Camera
    • Test Your Camera on another Mac so that DV-in still works OK
    • Toogle in iMovie pref. Play-back via Camera (on<->off some times)
    • Some Cameras has a Menu where You must select DV-out to get it to work
    • Camera connected to "charger" (mains adaptor) - not just on battery
Does Your Camera work on another Mac ?
Sorry to say it is to easy to turn the 6-pin end of the FW-cable 180 deg wrong.
This is lethal to the A/D-chip in the Camera = needs an expensive repair.
(Hard to find out - else than import/export to another Mac ceased to work
everything else is OK eg recording and playback to TV)
    Connections
    • Daisy Chaining most often doesn’t work (some unique cases - it’s the only way that work (some Canon Cameras ?))
Try to avoid connecting Camera <--> external HD <--> Mac but import directly to the Mac then move
the Movie project to dedicated external hard disk.
    Mac
    • Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk ? Please specify the amount of free space.
    (Other hard disks don't count)
I go for a minmum of 25Gb free space for 4x3 SD Video - and my guess is 5 times more for 16x9 HD ones
after material is imported and edited.
    SoftWare
    • Delete iMovie pref file may help sometimes. I rather start a new account, log into this and have a re-try.
    • Any strange Plug-ins into QuickTime as Perian etc ? Remove and try again.
    • FileVault is off ? (hopefully)
    Using WHAT versions ? .
    • Mac OS - X.5.4 ?
    • QuickTime version ? (This is the heart in both iMovie and FinalCut)
    • iMovie 8 (7.1.?) ?
    • iMovie HD 6 (6.0.4/3) ?
*Other ways to import Your miniDV tape*
    • Use another Camera. There where tape play-back stations from SONY
but they costed about 2-4 times a normal miniDV Camera.
    • If Your Camera works on another Mac. Make an iMovie movie project here and move it
over to Your Mac via an external hard disk.

Hi Bengt W, I tried it all, but nothing worked. Your answer has been helpfull insofar as all the different trials led to the conclusion that there was something wrong with my iMovie software. I therefore threw everything away and reinstalled iMovie from the HD. After that the exportation of DV videos (there has not been any problem with HDV videos) to my Sony camcorders worked properly as it did before. Thank you. LKN 1935

Thanks for all your suggestions. What I learned is that I had a software problem. I had something called "Nikon Transfer" on my Mac that was recognizing my Canon camcorder as a still camera and was preventing iMovie from working properly. After uninstalling Nikon Transfer and doing a reboot, everything worked great.
I never liked the Nikon Transfer software anyway--I guess I'll get a cheap card reader and use that to transfer photos in the future.

  • Importing issues with Final Cut Pro X. Green flash and twitches while play back

Hello, I'm having some importing issues with Final Cut Pro X and I can't find any solution whatsoever. Perhaps my importing settings are wrong?
Anyways, I've done a lot of recordings on eye TV and HD PVR with some videos that are about 3 hours long. I exported them into H.264 files, which turns them into mpeg-4 files with AAC audio. Then I import them into final cut pro X and I notice it takes a long time for them to render the videos and I notice that there are some green screens and twitches while I play through the video.
Here is a screenshot of the green screen that I'm talking about:

Could it be my 2 video graphics card that is causing this kind of issues? Or is there any solution to fix this?
In the past, I've used iMovie 09 and it worked out perfectly. However, the new iMovie 11 is terrible because it automatically optimzie my 3 hour long videos into making the importing process to (144 hours long to import). Is there any way to get iMovie 09 back or am I stuck on dealing with this Final Cut Pro X issues?

  • Import issue with Lightroom

I upgraded to LR5.2 2 weeks ago from 4.3. Install went fine, but I'm now having issues when importing my photos, Lightroom hangs partially through the import.  The only choice I have then is to force quit the program, which then freezes my computer.  Getting to be an invredibly frustrating exercise.
I have an iMac with OSX10.8.5 (Mountain Lion)
    Lightroom 5.2
Importing & converting CR2 files (5DMkIII) to DNG.
Images being imported to an external hard drive.
Nothing has changed in my workflow or software except for the installation of LR5.  I did read in some of the forums that there was import issues that appear to have been fixed with the latest release, however, whilst I DEFINTIELY have the latest release of LR5,  this is still occurring.  Any ideas? Another bug?
    Cheers
    Sarah

sure did. All permissions are admin & I'm it.  I haven't tried DL via image capture - LR4 gets me to the same end goal, tis just rather onerous to have to muck around with this twice.  Appreciate your taking the time on this

  • Duplicate Video Import Issue

    Hello,
I am running PPRO CS6 (6.0.3) on Windows Vista
I am having a duplicate asset import issue. Let me explain...
I have a couple of Premiere Pro project files with multiple sequences in each. In each of the project files I have the same source video files imported as the some of the sequences in each of the project files reference the same source video file.
So here it was is happening...I have a project file with sequences 001-025 in them and I have have another project file with sequences 026-050. I have 25 sequences per project to keep the project sizes smaller and more manageable so my system doesn't choke.
Sequences 014 and 015 in the first project file both reference "Video01.avi" which is located on my external F: drive. I want to import sequences 027-030 from the second project file which both reference the same "Video01.avi" file on the same drive.
I know PPro is intelligent enough to know when importing assets from another project file that shares the same assets as the project you are importing into, it knows to only import the dependent assets which are not in the project file you are importing into. I have done this countless times and PPro has correctly only imported the assets it needed.
However for some reason when I am trying to import the above mentioned sequences from one project into another it is bringing in a duplicate copy of the source footage necessarily. I can't figure out why it is doing this. The sequences it is importing both reference the identical file on the same drive, etc. And I am using the "Import Selected Sequences" option.
    Thank you,
    Shane

I think I have solved my own issue. As stated above when I was trying to import sequences from another sequence it was brining in a dup copy of the same clip in the sequence. I was able to successfully have it not do that.
What I realized was happening is that even though the source footage video file is identical in each project file, when I opened it up the clip in the source monitor I had different IO points set for each version of the clip in each project. PPro I am assuming imported the second copy to preserve the IO points on the second version of the clip that was being imported.
I simply cleared each set of IO points on each reference of the clip in the project file and I was able to import the sequences I wanted without bringing in an additional copy of the source clip. So now I just have one copy of "Video1.avi" in my project file instead of multiple.
Hope this helps someone in the future who may be experiencing a similar issue.

  • Import issues, Audio/video Unsynced

Having major import issues, audio and video won't play in sync. Working with MP4 and MXF on most recent version of Premiere CC. Everything plays fine in quicktime/vlc but goest haywire in premiere. Have been through tech support twice, updated drivers, cleared cache and Premiere still has trouble playing back video/audio in sync. Any idea what's going one? Our company recently switched to adobe for the supposed "ease" it handles different codecs and so far have had nothing but issues? Sorry if this is already addressed in one of the forms, am at my witts end now having lost multiple days trying to troubleshoot premiere.

    Hi Adobe4,
Having major import issues, audio and video won't play in sync. Working with MP4 and MXF on most recent version of Premiere CC.
Sorry for this issue. Tell me, where did these files originate? From a video camera? Do they have a constant frame rate or a variable frame rate?

  • DTW--  How to Import  Issue for Production

    Hi ,
How do i import Issue for Production Through DTW.
    Thanks & Regards
    somi mishra

    hello,
why do you want to use DTW to issue for production ? You could use backflush as issue method so that you can skip issue for production job. If you have issue for production batch job which it means you want to add all the qty of RM issued to production one times and all at onces for more than 10 PO, I think it is better to use addon. You create an excel template and export the data to be txt file, the txt file imported to the issue for production form using the addon. I just compare this situation with the client request in long time ago. they request fast and not manual sales order creation from quotation. just to compare it to your situation but need your detail explanation.

  • LR 4.4 Import Issues - Missed a Cure?

    Hello Everyone,
Since upgrading to 4.4, I have experienced a number of new issues. 4.3 was solid as a rock in comparison.  4.4 is causing me to need to manually terminate and/or restart the application numerous times daily, sometimes numerous times hourly.  It clearly needed more bake time.
I am posting this thread because, after reading numerous similar posts (I find I'm hardly alone) and hundreds of responses, it is not clear to me there are any solid solutions.  If there are, and I missed them, I am hoping someone will simply point me toward the appropriate URL.
    My primary issue surrounds Import.
The Import function has been repeatedly (not just once or twice, but interiminably):
Hanging, becoming unresponsive after telling it to execute the Import.  This is frequently noticed immediately, at file #1.
Incredibly slow, eventually grinding to a halt after a handful of files.
Sources are dropped. Initially all sources are listed. Then, especially with sources (e.g. card reader, smartphone) having > 100 files, the source simply is removed from the listing.  You can toggle the arrow on other sources (e.g. to expand file folders), but nothing happens other than the arrow toggling up/down.
Only solution, restart (frequently requiring manual process termination) and try again.  I have seen discussions regarding smartphones. It was never an issue with 4.3.  With 4.4, my iPhone 4S will populate the preview grid, but after about 2 minutes, it disappears and the grid goes blank.
Importing large number of files (regardless of source) will populate the grid but frequently have the exclamation mark with a number of the preview images.  Only solution I've found, delete effected files from catalog, then reimport.
Modifying import settings, such as my copyright or related info, will terminate LR altogether, about 30% of the time.  This happened to a number of us at a LR training class this past weekend (different machines, OSes).
Importing 764 JPG from my iPhone (while writing this) has been going about :30 and is 1/3 (indicated) complete.  We're at the point of about 1 image imported ever ~5 seconds, reinforced by the entire grid object being refreshed each time.  I would consider importing a handful of files at a time, but if I do much more than select the iPhone as source and hit Import as soon as the grid populates, the source is lost, and everything starts over.
One instance of an 'insufficient memory' error.
There are other niggling issues but Import is a major mess.  From what I've read (and, again, I see I'm not alone), these issues are common for both Windows and Mac, newer PCs and older, and in all manner of mixed environments.
My own situation is a Windows 7 Ultimate, Dell E6400, 4GB RAM, LR 4.4.  In all cases I am reading my cards via the built-in card readers.  Primary cameras are a Canon SX260 (JPG only) and Konica Minolta Maxxum 7D shooting (almost always) RAW (.MRW).  My content is solely pictures, no video.
With regard to the smartphone discussion, I have experienced these problems with the laptop docked, undocked, with or without smartphone attached.
The only relief I have found is, when working with a memory card having >100 images (not many, in the grand scheme), to copy files to a local hard drive, then import from there.  The impression I have, is that the speed allows quicker execution, getting ahead of any resource contention issues.  Purely a gut feel thing based on observed behavior. Nonetheless importing from HD rather than SD does work better.
Clearly 4.4's Import has issues. Any word of a service patch or 4.5?

Uninstall 4.4 and re-install 4.3 is the normal process for downgrading.
Others don't necessarily have the problems you're seeing, so to me it's less likely a fundamental flaw of LR 4.4 that wasn't tested well enough, and more likely a hardware or driver issues that LR 4.4 is bringing to light.
It may be that LR 4.4 is using different USB libraries or different OS-level functions to interact with the removable devices, perhaps to resolve other issues reported in previous versions, so something working differently wouldn't be unexpected.  It is less expected that whatever LR 4.4 is doing would cause problems on a particular computer, though.  It might be wise to figure out what is wrong on your system when LR 4.4 is in use, but obviously you also need to have a functioning workflow as well.
For experimentation, I think it is possible to have both LR 4.3 and LR 4.4 installed at the same time, if your rename the LR 4.4 program folder to something completely different before doing the install for LR 4.3, and then rename it back when you're done.
You also might want to try the beta for Lightroom 5 at Adobe Labs http://labs.adobe.com/ to see if it works any better and report any issues to the LR5-beta specific discussion forum (not here).

  • Several import issues

    Win XP, LR3.2
I'm a experience user and usually work from my Desktop... and it's been one year but in the last few days have done 2 jobs on my laptop... and something is wrong when I import.
I hope someone can tell me what's going on.   I've never had these kind of issues before.
Understand... my file structure is:  C:/Files/Photos/(then name of job...i.e.)Altrusa/Raw (etc).  I was working with multi sub folders in the Altrusa Folder.
Unfortunately... this is a 5 day shoot and I've been working as I go... and these issues came up.
    It appears:
    1.  When I go to import... LR creates automaticly a folder by date with my files in "My Pictures" of the latest uploaded photos from what ever files I put where ever (I never use "My Pictures)... so Instead I click and drag the folder from the correct location.  However... sometimes something goes wrong and it takes it from the so-called "My Picture" location which really does not exist until LR does it's thing and creates the folder there (appearently).  I also thought I noticed that recently on my desktop workstation as well... but I always click and drag on that 2 screen power horse and never paid much attention to it.
    2.  When it does that... all I have is a LR Folder listed by date... appearently in "My Pictures".  Or so it appears in Windows Exployer.  This totally messes up how I work with file structures.
    3.  I can no longer move images in Exployer and reload (import) from a new location even if I tell LR to ignore duplicate images.
    4.  I could have sworn that LR was not showing me images that were in the folder that exployer said were.  And when I right clicked to get their location... they really were not where LR said they were (accorrding to win exployer).
    5.  In one nightmare... I had 3 images.  Import had them grayed out as being loaded.  Win Exployer said they were in Folder 3... yet they would not show up in LR "folder 3".   So I renamed them and re-imported them.  Bingo... they not only showed up in the correct directory... but the origional 3 did as well (with a "?" of course).  I then deleted the new renamed files... and renamed them back to the origional names.  and... all six (3 orig and 3 renamed) vanashed from the LR folder.   So I tried reimporting the orig again... they were grayed out... so I renamed and re-imported... and they took and I worked with them that way.
    6.  It could have been me getting rummey at 2am after blowing 4 hrs... but I could have sworn LR removed some images from LR all on it's own.  However... that does not explain the other same above problems I had during normal working hrs the last 4 days.
    A.   What's going on?
    B.  Once LR import an image... is there a way to get LR to reload that image?
    C.  Clicking on "Show image in Exployer"  did not seem to be working correctly.  Why?
    Thanks Marv.

Ok... thanks.  I changed to "one Folder".
Any clue onthe file renaming thing?.. as to whay none showed up and then all 3 origional files and 3 renamed files showed up.   That was weird.
In this case... relinking was not the problem... as they flat were not showing up period.
One thing I just discovered... If I rate the images... that rating DOES NOT transfer when I export the image and reopen them in LR.   Bummer.  (In this case I had 1 star for the Client CD and 2 Star for the CD and Slide show presentatation... and the images would get exported 4x a day into one "final" folder.   This really messed me up as I usually had "rated" turned on in the library after importing the exported files to the "Final" Folder... they were there... but No stars showed so they never visually showed up.   Guess I should have built  2 Quick Collections.
As soon as I get home I will be adding the Expression Media cataloging program to my inventory... would have already if I haden't been so slammed before I left for the field... which will be a big asset for these multi day shoot projects.   That will help with file mgt too.  (Media Pro appears to be very broken for PC's... so I was lucky to have downloaded the trial of EM before they pulled it from sales... also managed to get a licience as well).
    Thanks Marv.

  • Premiere Pro CS3 Importing Issues

    Hi all,
I'm new to Premiere, and I've been having issues with a project that I am trying to start. I am running Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 on Windows Vista. I want to import a file that was originally a .mkv file. Because Premiere does not use .mkv files, I simply changed the file extension to .avi. The file is about 1.42 GB. But whenever I try to import the file as a .avi, my program freezes and I get a (Not Responding) error on the dialog box at the top of the program. When this happens I am always forced to close the program. Am I experiencing this simply because the files I am attempting to import are too big? Or is it something else?
Also, if it is indeed because the files are too big, how can I get around this problem? I have tried using software such as VirtualDub and SolveigMM Video Splitter to cut the AVI files into smaller parts, but they do not seem to be working. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks a lot!
(By the way, I attached a JPEG file of a snapshot of what happens when I try to import into Premiere.)

This is because you cannot simply rename a file's extension to "look like" a different format. An .mkv is as similar to an .avi as a goat is to an iguana. First, you may want to try something like this.
You can also try opening your MKV in VirtualDub (without renaming it ".avi"), which may work. I have read that recent releases of VirtualDub can handle (more or less) MKV files, but I have no experience with this myself. If this works, you can save it as an AVI from VirtualDub.
As for the AVI format, it is really just a "container." What matters more is the codec with which the AVI is compressed. A good choice is often DV (and here is a good free DV codec if you need one). However, DV only works with videos of certain resolution and framerate, so you may want to convert to an uncompressed AVI or use a codec like Lagarith.
Assuming you are able to find a decent MKV -> AVI converter, could you please post more details on your video, such as its resolution. It would also be helpful to know what format you plan to output your edited video as.

  • Schema level Import issue

    Hi ,
Recently i faces one issue :-
schema backup from one database is created for <SCHEMA1> whose default tablespace is <TABS1> , and trying to import in to <SCHEMA1> of different database whose default tablespace is <TABS2> but it looks for <TABS1> tablespace.i have used fromuser touser clause during import.
So, How can i perform this task without creating a <TABS1> tablespace and assign a default tablespace for <SCHEMA1> or renamimg a <TABS2> tablespace to <TABS1> tablespace which is a tidious task in oracle 9i.

1 set up a default tablespace for the target user
2 Make sure the target user doesn't have the RESOURCE role and/or UNLIMITED TABLESPACE privilege.
3 Make sure the target user has QUOTA on the default tablespace ONLY
alter user quota unlimited on <target> quota 0 on <the rest>
4 Import without importing indexes, those won't be relocated.
5 Imp indexfile=<any file> ---> file with create index statements
6 edit this file, adjusting tablespaces
    7 run it.
Tablespaces can't be renamed in 9i.

  • File name gets renamed when imported to iTunes?

Recently I've been using a program called 4K Youtube to MP3 to export files from my youtube channel. Since I won't be having access to the computer with the original mp3 files anymore, I started downloading files from youtube. Everything was going well, until yesterday, when I downloaded a set of playlists like I had always been doing.
The problem I got was when I downloaded the youtube songs and accessed them through finder, they were named the same title as the video on youtube. However, when I opened the file and imported it to iTunes like I had always been doing, all the songs had been somehow renamed to DNBosarusRex, artist renamed to DJ Dream. I had only gotten this error after using a file renamer to get rid of things like [Free] from the mp3 file title, but even after redownloading I still got the same problem. Anyway to fix this?

BUMP I'm also trying to do the same thing and also experiencing the same issues!
