Renaming photos in Album for export

Hello!
In several Albums I have reordered the photos from their sequence as they appear in the Library. I would like to Export these to a flash drive for use in a digital photo frame, but a simple Export doesn't preserve the Album's photo order.
Is there a simple (i.e., batch) way to rename the Album's photos in sequence so that when exported that sequence will be preserved? Or does this have to be done manually?
Also, is there a way to rename just the Album's photos and not those same photos as they appear in the main Library?
Thanks!
David

Open the album and select all - export (file menu => export) and use either the sequential or album name with number option for the file name in the export sequence - also it is a good idea to set the maximum dimension to the maximum dimension for the digital frame to maximize the number of photos you can use

  • Editing photos in album for book and freeze

    Hi,
I have just upgraded to 5.0.4 and am using Panther 10.3.9 at the moment. I am trying to make a book with a library of 700 photos. I am first creating an album and editing it down to about 30 photos. Now I am editing the individual photos, crop, enhance, sharpen, etc.
I have had a crash during the saving photo. This was happening all the time (crashes, SPWOD, freeze) when I did a large book with 5.0.2 and had a 2000+ photo library. I thought I had addressed the problem by upgrading, using iphoto buddy, keeping the library small.
Do other people have no problem editing everything right in iPhoto, or should I do that in Photoshop and import the pics. I prefer to do it right in iPhoto, but not if it freezes all the time!
    Thanks!

First repair disk permissions with Disk Utility and then manually set the permissions on your iPhoto Library folder as follows:
Setting Permissions for iPhoto Library Folder
1 - Select the iPhoto Library folder and type Command-I.
2 - When the Info window comes up go to the Ownership and Permissions section and make sure You have Read & Write permission and that the Owner and Group have Read & Write also. Others - Read Only.
3 - Then click on the "Apply to enclosed items..." button.
One way to give it another go is to export those 30 photos to a folder on the desktop, create a new library and import them into it. Now you have a minimum sized library and can try to shake down the problem. I make a new library for each book I've created. Makes things smaller and faster. I use iPhoto Buddy to easily move between libraries.
It's my opinion that it's best to use Photoshop for your editing. That's also what I do. But I do it from within iPhoto by setting PS as my editor of choice in iPhoto's General preference window under "Double-click: Open photo in:"
The only caveat is doing it that way is if you must keep the file name and extension the same. If you create a layered file that necessitates an extension change to .psd then you must save to the desktop and import as a new file. Simple edits you save as usual.
Have you tried deleting the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist? It may help fix the crashing problem. Another potential fix would be to rebuild the library, after making a backup copy of the iPhoto Library folder beforehand, selecting all option but the one regarding orphaned files.
Hope this has been of some help. Good luck.

  • Renaming photos in Iphoto for web optimisation - rename reverts on upload

Hi, I am a new mac owner and I use iphoto for editing images of my flowers for my web site and blog. For the images to rank on a search they need to be renamed to something that indicates what the picture is of. I do this in iphoto by overtyping the title and this works fine until I try and upload to my blog when the photo names all revert to the file name allocated by the camera on upload. I cannot rename the photos again on the blog. Can anyone help ? Is there a way of renaming your image that is not lost when it is uploaded onto the web ? I'd be very grateful for any advice. Thanks. Lynne

You're not trying to rename the image, you're trying to rename the file.
You can't rename a file in iPhoto, but you can export the photo, (File -> Export) and use the title you added in iPhoto as the filename. It's an option in the Export dialogue. Complete the export to the desktop and upload from there.

  • Cannot select photos from albums for screensaver since upgrade to Tiger.

Since upgrading my G4 to Tiger, screensaver will only work with Photo Library, Last Row, and Last 12 months folders. I can no longer select my own albums I have created in iPhoto. When I do select my own albums, the screensaver selects from Photo Library. Screensaver will work with the Last Row and last 12 month albums. This is kind of frustrating. Not too pleased with Tiger and would reinstall Panther in a heartbeat if I could figure out how to do it.
    Thanks

same problem here- have you found a fix? thanks

  • Good evening. When I try to rename a master file or export a master file, it only allows 9 spaces for my new name, even though Aperature 3 allows many more spaces than that for version names. This creates a lot of problems and headaches for me.

Good evening. When I try to rename a master file or export a master file, Aperature 3 only recognizes the first 9 spaces for raw .NEF files, even though it easily uses twice that many spaces for version names. I have a system in place that works really well for me, wherein by changing the file name I can recognize what's important to me just by glancing at the file name, no matter what system it is in, I do not have to open or mouse over anything to know what the file is. My files also arrange themselves in order no matter what file system they are in. Can someone please tell me if there is a setting, or something I am doing wrong, that prevents me from using a longer Master file name. I can't be the only person who would like to have his Master File names correspond to the name that appears in the Aperature library, and would like to use at least 16 spaces (numbers, letters, etc.)
    Thanks,
    Photo Al

    Hi Frank,
As you suggested, I am attaching several screen shots. In the first one you can see how I set up my preset. I used "Custom Name" and "Counter" with a dot between the two drag ins, followed by "D90". I also have a dot to seperate the 8 digits in the Custom Name and make it easier to read.
I then click "OK" which takes us to the second screen shot. Here you can see that in the Example File Name everything looks perfect, and you can see I have clicked on "Apply to Master Files".
In the third screen shot you can see that the version in my library did in fact change correctly. With the "mouse over" pop up screen you can see, however, that the Master File name was changed  to "1933.1017.NEF". It failed to carry the "12D90" and if I go to where my masters are stored that is exactly what the name was changed to.
In the fourth screen shot I attempt to export the master. You can see how my "Version Name" is set up.
And finally on the 5th screen shot you see in the File Name Example the name "1933.1017.NEF" once again, which when I export the master is exactly how the name will appear. Since I will export more than one file at a time , a (1) and  a (2)  etc., will appear at the end of the names because all the files are being given the same "1933.1017.NEF" name.
I hope this reply does a better job of clarifying my problem. I am anxious to see if this is something I simply misunderstood, or if I am simply doing something wrong.
    Thanks,

  • Using Iphoto 11 how do I change filename on photo so when it exports it does so in same sequence as Album created in.  Finder does not have option to keep as is... Thanks to anyone who can help me with this !

The photos must be viewed in sequence as prepared with the filenames I have chosen to describe them.
How can I just simply transfer this over to a dvd ?  Any help is appreciated !
    Thank You

There are two ways to export photos so they remain in the same order as you put them in the iPhoto album:
    A:
1 -  select the photos in the album and use the Photos ➙ Batch Rename  ➙ Title to Text menu with the option to add a sequential number to the file name.
2 - Export out of iPhoto via File ➙ Export ➙ File Export with the option File Name = Title.
    B:
1 - select all of the photos in the album and export via File ➙ Export ➙ File Export with the option File Name = Album name with number.
Both method will produce file with the following file name format:  xxxx-01.jpg, xxxx-02.jpg, etc., which will be in the order you had in iPhoto when view alphanumerically in the Finder.

  • Needed: Script for exporting iPhoto albums into a file structure

Hello all! I have no experience with AppleScript, but I heard it should be possible to write a script which helps to copy/export a iPhoto album structure into an according directory structure. Does anybody already have such a script?
Thx for any information on that!

    Thomas,
I have created an AppleScript along with the TextCommands OSAX that duplicates all of the albums in iPhoto to a folder called "Albums" on the desktop. It is quite slow because of the need to open an Info window in Finder to get the path to the original photo but gets the job done.
If you wish it could be modified to provide an ability to select individual albums for duplication. Let me know if you are interested in the latter. I am also seeing whether the album structure can be created directly in a burn folder so that CDs/DVDs can be rapidly burned.
TextCommands is donationware and available at the following location:
    http://osaxen.com/files/textcommands1.0.1.html
and should be placed in the following location for the AppleScript to see it:
    ~/Library/ScriptingAdditions/
click here to open this script in your editor<pre style="font-family: 'Monaco', 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; overflow:auto; color: #222; background: #DDD; padding: 0.2em; font-size: 10px; width:400px">property PathToDesktop : path to desktop as string

  • Can I make a random photo album for a photo frame?

It would be great if iPhoto (or Aperture) had an easy Photo Frame function that gave you lots of flexibility in choosing photo options (lie the SmartAbum feature), including a "random" option, AND you could specify the maximum Album size.  This would be awesome for creating an Album just for a photo frame.  Is there a way to do this?  Haven't found it yet...

I always make an album for my photos for a frame then export them at the frame size so as to have the maximum number in the memory available
You could do this and add random photos to it easily by opening the library in photo view, opening all events and dragging random photos to the album

  • How do I move photos in iphoto for ipad from album to album ?

how do i move photos in iPhoto for iPad from album to album ?

If you want to move a photo, then you need to use a PC or a Mac. In iPad, you can copy, but this is just a link to the original. It's something I've been wanting to do for a while...but it looks like it needs another photo program to do it.

  • I have separate photo albums for different activities (Christmas, Rome vacation, etc. Is there a way to temporarily freeze the albums so misc. photos don't accidentally get added to that album..

I have separate photo albums for different activities (Christmas, Rome vacation, etc.) and drag respective photos in appropriate albums.  As time passes, I find that I pictures from other albums accidentally added to the various albums.  Is there a way to lock the album when I am done so changes can be made but only if I intentionally mean to do so?

    No
What ever you drag to an album is added to it
You can suggest a feature rto Apple - iPhoto menu ==> provide iPhoto feedback

Just because I have an imac pre 2007 why can I not order photo albums???!!
I spent hours building a photo album for my parents only to find out that because my mac is earlier than 2007, even though I have 10.6.8, I can no longer order?! What is with that? This makes no sense. I can go online to various "photo shop" place and regardless of the OS and computer I am working from I can order a photo album so why can I no longer do this through iPhoto on my MAC?
How do I order my album now? If somebody could please explain as I am going home in 1 month and really wanted to surprise my aging parents with this book.

  • HT201317 HOW DO I MAKE PHOTO ALBUMS FOR PICTURES IN MY PHOTO STREAM ON IPAD?

How do I make albums for my photo stream pictures on my IPAD?

Open the photos app, tap Albums at the top, tap "+" on the top right, give your album a name, tap Save, tap Photo Stream at the top, tap the photo stream album to open it, tap all the photos you want to add to this album, tap Done on the top right.  Repeat for each album you want to create.

  • Add photo to book - after already created initial album for that book.

i would like to add a new photo to an existing book. but i can't figure out how to import it to the album i used for this book. any tips would be appreciated.

You do not add it to the album you started with (you can but it has nothing to do with the book) - to add a photo to a book (or an album for that matter) you simply drag it from the event to the book in the source pane on the left

  • Photo stream not showing up under photos?  There is options for photos and album under photos but no photo stream

I just bought an ipad mini 2. However, could not find photo stream under photos. Why?

Hi there, thanks for the answers. I think I didn't explain it clearly. I have enable photo stream, however I couldnt see my photo stream album in the Photo app. When I take photos from my iPad mini, it synced to my photo scream on my iPhone so i assume I am using the same iCloud account. But this photo stream album does not appear on my iPad mini.
