Renaming photos in Iphoto for web optimisation - rename reverts on upload

Hi, I am a new mac owner and I use iphoto for editing images of my flowers for my web site and blog. For the images to rank on a search they need to be renamed to something that indicates what the picture is of. I do this in iphoto by overtyping the title and this works fine until I try and upload to my blog when the photo names all revert to the file name allocated by the camera on upload. I cannot rename the photos again on the blog. Can anyone help ? Is there a way of renaming your image that is not lost when it is uploaded onto the web ? I'd be very grateful for any advice. Thanks. Lynne

You're not trying to rename the image, you're trying to rename the file.
You can't rename a file in iPhoto, but you can export the photo, (File -> Export) and use the title you added in iPhoto as the filename. It's an option in the Export dialogue. Complete the export to the desktop and upload from there.

how do i move photos in iPhoto for iPad from album to album ?

If you want to move a photo, then you need to use a PC or a Mac. In iPad, you can copy, but this is just a link to the original. It's something I've been wanting to do for a while...but it looks like it needs another photo program to do it.

  • How can I delete an event on an Ipad2, PHOTOS or Iphoto for IOS?

How can I delete a photo event on an IPAD2 using either PHOTOS or IPHOTO for IOS?
    Thanks

If the event is a synced event from iPhoto on your Mac, you have to deselect the event in iTunes while the iPad is connected to the Mac and with iTunes running and then sync - in order to remove the event from the photos app.
Synced photos cannot be deleted directly on the device. You must unsync the photos using iTunes on your computer.

  • When uploading photos from iphoto for ebay they look horrible

I'm new to Mac. I have a new digital SLR Nikon D40 that takes the most magnificent pictures. When I look at them in the iphoto library and even email them from the library, they look awesome. Also, if I click on a photo in my library it tells me the photos is 2000 x 3008 and 1.4 MB.
I went to do some listing on ebay. I use sellersourcebook.com for templates. Then you upload your pictures to them, they do the photo hosting and assign an URL to each photo you upload. When I do this, my photos look blurry, small & grainy. I emailed their tech support and they told me I don't have enough pixels. I don't understand how this is true? Then someone suggested photobucket as a free photo hosting site. The same thing happened. Also when I uploaded photos to Costco from home to print I got a warning saying the photo isn't good enough quality and won't print right.
When I upload it opens up finder, I click on pictures, iphoto library, data, 2007. I went to the camera shop today where I bought my camera to see if they could help. They suggested that I may be uploading the thumbnail and not the original photo. I thought I was uploading the original photo.
    Can anyone help?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
When I upload it opens up finder, I click on pictures, iphoto library, data, 2007.
Yes, the Data folder contains the thumbnails created by iPhoto for quick display of your library. The original resides in the Originals folder. If you have applied any edits (including rotation) then the edited version is in the Modified folder.
But it can be difficult to know whether the photo you need is in Originals or Modified. Plus, it is recommended that you NOT delve into the iPhoto Library folder from the Finder. Any changes you make there will cause damage to your database.
The sanctioned way to upload your photos is to select them in the iPhoto application. Then do File > Export > File Export to a folder on your Desktop. The export dialog gives you the option to rename or resize the copies, if you like. Upload the Desktop folder, then delete it when done, as your files remain in the iPhoto Library.
    Regards.

  • Pulling pictures out of iphoto for web sites other then Facebook, how to do

I cannot figure out where iphoto stores its photo as I publish photos and its always looking for photos in a area that I tell it to go to ('ie pictures and then the name) but I cannot figure this one out on iphoto
any help out there would be greatly appreciated !

There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
*For Users of 10.5 and later*
You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
*For users of 10.4 and later* ...
Many internet sites such as Flickr and SmugMug have plug-ins for accessing the iPhoto Library. If the site you want to use doesn’t then some, one or any of these will also work:
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. However, if you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
*If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running*:
For users of 10.6 and later:
You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu. Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and later:
Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • Numbering photos in iPhoto for Toast6Lite

In creating a Slideshow I change the order of some photos in an Album to better tell the story. Then I have changed the titles, in the new order, to 001, 002, etc. in the 'Information' section. But when I move these photos into ToastLite or to the Desktop they revert to their 'camera number' and destroy my editing. It is driving me crazy....Help!
    G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    tigeroy
This happens because when you title a photo in iPhoto, it does not rename the file.
    One thing that might work...
After you have set your slideshow the way you want it, select all the photos in the show and go Photos - Batch Change and retitle the photos, including consecutive numbering.
The go File -> Export and in the dialogue select the option to use the Title as the File name

  • How do I geotag photos in iPhoto for the iPhone?

I decided to purchase the iPhoto app for my iPhone 4S after carefully reading through the description to make sure it could do most of what I wanted. Most importantly a statement in the description said I could add location data, comments & even the weather by simply swiping across a photo. On that basis, I purchased the app. After a couple of hours of playing with it, I still can't figure out what I'm doing wrong? Swiping just scrolls to the next photo. If I look under the info tab for the option to geotag, it's not there. I checked out the app help and curiously there is no mention of geotagging a photo anywhere. Was I led astray or am I just doing something wrong?

You may be misunderstanding the capabiities.  The location info is added to the EXIF data of a photo as it is taken (at least that's how it works with the iPhone).  This is an optional feature for your photos, and you can turn it on by going to Settings, Location Services, and turning the service ON for the camera.  Now, once you take a photo, the GPS data will be associated with it.
Next, if you open that photo in Photos or iPhoto on your device, the GPS data tagged on the photos will show up on a little map in the Places view.
Stated another way, I don't think there is a way in iPhoto for iOS to tag your photos after you take them.  However, if you use your iPhone camera and have Location Services turned on, you should get GPS data added to each photo without any further work on your part.

  • How do I organize photos in iPhoto for ios

I am confused because there is a category for organizing photos here and in the iPhoto for iOS tutorial, but I cannot find any functionality for organizing photos into events and albums in the software. Am I missing something?  Does anyone know how to do this with the iPad short of making a new album every time in photos?  Most of the time I would like to add photos to existing albums and events rather than creating new ones.

At the moment I cannot see a way to do it in 'iPhoto' you have to do it in the 'Photos' app.  My workflow is to organize in 'Photos' and use 'iPhoto' for editing.  Hopefully future versions will make this much easier.

  • Cannot view 90% of my photos in "iPhoto" for iOS

Key among my MANY gripes with this "iPhoto" for iOS is that I cannot use it to edit photos unless they are in the camera roll or in an event or album. Crucially in the list of photos around 90% of the photos on my iPad are missing. This is because they are synced onto it from the REAL iPhoto for mac using the faces / places features. The iOS atrocity doesn't see them whatsoever.
This is NOT iPhoto. Why couldn't you have called it iPicEffects and not sullied the wonderful Mac app with this awful, gimmicky, unintuitive excuse for an app.
Please fix it, pull it or at least promise to not ruin the Mac version. Please.

when you upgrade iPhoto you do not import anything - you launch the new version and it upgrades the library
the best solution is to restore your backup of the iPhoto library from before you did the import (or what ever you did which is not clear), verify it is in your pictures folder and launch iPhoto

  • How do I exclude photos from iPhoto for iOS

I have iPhoto for iOS but unfortunately I can't find a way to exclude the photos I don't want anymore. Do you know how do I do it?

Do you mean, you want to delete certain photos from your iPhoto Library on your IOS device?
Photos that have been synced to iPhoto need to be removed on the device you are syncing from, then sync again. Photos that you imported from mail or the camera roll can be deleted using the menu:
See this manual page: Delete photos and this thread:
Re: How can I delete photos in iPhoto on my iPad2?
If you edited a photo you need to revert the edits, before you can remove it. Otherwise it will stay in the "Edited" album.

  • Compressing photos in iPhoto for e-mailing

I would like to compress photos in iPhoto to send by e-mail but I don't see the compress option in the file drop down.
    Can anyone help me please.

In iPhoto 11, click the Share icon at the bottom-right:
You can choose your email option here, or go to the Share menu at the top of your screen. Once you select Email, the Photo Size options become available:
This is for compressing a single image and emailing it. If you want to compress multiple images, go to File > Export... and you'll see this:
There is a Size menu item with the same options as above, so you can save them, compress/zip them and send a bunch together.

  • Problems sharing photos through IPhoto for mac

I am using iphoto9.6 on a mac mini (late 2012).
My experience is not great, I'm a disappointed with the overall speed that everything only mac happens.
I'd like to address each of my problems one at a time, I'm kind of hoping that maybe resolving one problem will solve a lot of the others.  (Always the optimist!)
SO.. I want to share a photo through messages, some times it works, often I get this message, some times other things go wrong.
I know thats not much info to go on, but if anyone can tell me what additonal info is required I will do my best to provide it.
One thing I will note is it sounds like my Mac is working its socks off, pretty much all the time, I'm not really asking it to do much, just open a few web pages and view a few photos in iPhoto mainly.
    Any help greatly appreciated

  • Import photos to iPhoto for iPad

I have an old MacBook running 10.5.8. I'm trying to get my photos from iPhoto to my iPad mini.10.5.8 doesn't support iCloud. What can I do?

You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive (works the same with an SD card) into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

  • Can't see any of my photos in iPhoto for Mac

I've had an iMac Late 2012 for two years. Since then, I've kept all my photos from my camera and my iPhone in the iMac's iPhoto app.
For some months, I'd been having a constant problem: The events' icons were empty and it said the event's name and that it had 0 photos (each one had lots of photos). However, if I double clicked on the event, I could open it and I could see all the photos correctly.
But, since last week I have a very serious problem with iPhoto. When I open iPhoto, it says something like how to import photos (as if I hadn't ever used it before), all my photos, events, etc. are gone. However, I realized something that maybe didn't make me so sad. I went to Finder > Photos > iPhoto library, I right clicked it and selected "Show information" (I'm from Argentina and my Mac is in Spanish, so I'm trying to translate the things of the Mac to English the best I can), and Finder says its size is 86 GB (so I hope all my photos and videos are here!!!).
Extra data: 1. I right clicked the iPhoto Library folder in Finder and chose Show the content of the package, and there are two folders with the iPhoto Library icon called: Library.iPhoto and Library 6.iPhoto, both size is 22 bytes. Maybe could help you realize which is the problem.
    2. I also tried to updating my Mac to the last beta version, but the Photos app didn't solve my problem.
That you sooooo much for your help,
    Greetings,
    Nicolas.

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Pixilated Photos When Exported for Web

When I export from Aperture to a Web Gallery, my photos get pixelated. The originals in Aperture do not look like this, nor do the photos when viewed as a straight JPEG. I originally started with iPhoto to edit and organize, but have since moved my library over to Aperture. Are there issues with resizing photos? I typically do 5x7.
I've tried several different paths, with similar results:
    * Using Aperture to publish from a gallery template
    * Using iPhoto to export a photo album to iWeb which I publish to a folder
    * Publishing from iWeb to .Mac web page
    * Publishing from iWeb to a .Mac Web Gallery
A good example is the middle photo in the second row titled "Hot Bodies". The edges of the white lettering and graphics looks horrible in slideshow.
    http://www.dennisvogel.com/photos/USGP2005.html
    or this photo from gallery
    http://gallery.mac.com/dennis.vogel#100003/USGP_061507-0037&bgcolor=black
I'm seeing similar results on Windows and Mac, using Firefox and Safari.
I'm getting a little desperate, as I've invested a lot of time organizing and editing my photos! <sigh> Assistance greatly appreciated.

Check that the export preset you are using hasn't been changed from what you think it should be (in terms of x/y pixel size, PPI, JPEG quality setting, etc.)
