Renaming .PPTX files returns -108 and -43 error

I've had this issue a year ago and it's now repeating.
When I rename a .pptx file I sometimes get a -108 or -43 error. The file is then un-openable.
The fix is to be able to rename the file.
Last year when this was happening the files I was renaming were alway in a dropbox folder. So I presumed it was something to do with the dropbox application. The fix is this case was to rename the .pptx file from the dropbox website. - once renamed the file was nigh on immediately fixed.
I took my MBP to an apple store as it's still under applecare and they wiped the drive and i had to re-install everything. it did how ever work. for a while.
It's started happening again, again it's .pptx files in the dropbox folder - however it's also happened to files outside the dropbox.
the fix I've found for hte files outside dropbox is openning up the pptx file via Windows XP in Parallels! n.b. all i need to do is open the PPTX file via PowerPoint running on Windows XP on my macbook.
Looking online, some say -108 errors are memory issues (hard drive) - well i've got 250GB of free space. 8GB of RAM.
anyone got any suggestions on a permenant fix ?
many thanks for reading.
JC

Since it seems that it's primarily a MS Office problem that you're having (and you don't say which version of Office that you're using), I would head on over to the MS Office forums and ask there - http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/mac/forum/.
Good luck,

I tried to rename a file, it gave me an error message (can't remember the number - 43??) and then the file disappeared from the original folder. When I do a search, the file comes up under the new name, but it does not show a path, and even though preview shows the contents, I can't open the document (Powerpoint) and I can't move the document. I tried "Copy" and paste but it doesn't work. I tried "Share" with Airdrop and iChat, but the file is inaccessible. When i try to rename the file, it says the filename is too long.
When I try to open it, it says the alias is not good, and asks if I want to fix the alias. I'm afraid to do that and lose all access to this document.
Right now, it feels like a ghost document - it is on the computer intact, but it is in an undisclosed location and inaccessible.
    Please help!!

I was able to resolve this by repairing permissions, even though no permissions error was listed specifically for that file.
I could also have recovered it through Time Machine, but I'm interested in knowing how not to have this happen again!
I was afraid of rebooting and possibly losing track even of the ghost.
I did not try EasyFind - I'll keep that in mind next time.
    Thanks for all the comments.

  • Renaming a file to date and time after unziped

I have a google earth kmz that is downloaded to our root directory. I am wanting to see how to rename this file after it is droped into our directory. Here is what I have so far.
    <cfif FileExists("#expandpath(".")#/temp.zip")>
    Got it .... extract....<br />
        <cfzip action="unzip" file="#expandpath(".")#/temp.zip"
        destination="#expandpath(".")#"
        overwrite="true">
        </cfzip>
Right now the code above unzips the file and places the KMZ in the root drive. I wanted to rename the file the current  date like as follows RT_2010_03_17_12_00.kmz
I have no idea how to accomplish this.

The <cffile action="rename"...> is what I would look at using.

  • Blackberry 8330 - can't play wav files - Red X and "unknown error occured"

I have a client that started having an issue with her blackberry after we moved to BES Express 5.02.  Her .wav file association on her computer was changed so she couldn't play .wav files on her PC.  Then she stated getting a red X on her phone when trying to listen to the Cisco unity voice mail messages that are attached to emails.
I was able to correct the issue on her PC by re-associating the .wav file with windows media player.   However on the blackberry, the .wav file still will not play.  Is there a file association section on a blackberry device?  If not what else might be the issue?   she is the only person having the issue.  I don't use a blackberry so i don't know the menu options very well.
    Thanks
    Steve.
    P.S.
Oh, The phone was factory reset before being added to the new BES, Service books and IT policy Applied correctly.   I could pull the phoen and reset it again but I don't know if that would correct the issue.

Hi - I am now having this same exact problem on my Mac laptop.   I have many Breaking Bad, etc TV shows that I purchased through itunes & have watched over the years & now all of those, as well as, any new shows I purchase will not play on my laptop.    Just same as above person -- a black screen that appears to be playing movie (the timer is actually playing)  but no video or sound.    Shows / Movies all work fine on my home computer.
On my laptop it keeps saying .. "Not authorized to play .... & then says  "Sign into Itunes.. "   - but I  do sign out & sign  back in & still nothing happens.   Very annoying and frustrating as I  can ususlly figure things out with perserverence and trial & error.

    Hi Ravi,
I checked what you are saying its integer type in that edit key mapping.I think its a bug in MDM because when i tried sending the

  • Urgent-Renamed Folder in Shared Folders and now Error for all Users?

    Hello,
Well I was asked to shorten a name in Shared Folders and so I changed it. Now I get an error if I click on Dashboards or Shared Folders (which is empty now btw ???) or Manage Catalog, its displaying:
Target Path Not Found (/Shared/Customer Operations) Error Code: GZ8VXQ96.
Are we not supposed to create a folder in Shared Folders and then Change the Name?
Please Help. The BI Server Administrator is telling me that everyone else's reports are not available now.
    Neally

Kishore, Thank you for your response! I have forwarded it off.
Thing is, there was nothing inside the folder yet...I hadn't moved any reports over so there was nothing referencing it yet.
How can a name of a folder that is for our dept. affect HR, Finance..when they login? Their dashboard preferences were not set to mine. Confused. And to add to this, when I click on Manage Catalog is when I receive the error. So I imagine this is something admin will have to do in Oracle on bi server?

  • OPENING .PPTX File"This document not in powerpoint format"

Hi, I am new and am hoping somebody can help me. I received a file a couple of hours ago from a friend who uses Microsoft Power Point, I have a presentation in the morning.
I have downloaded the file, it is .pptx. When I click on it to open it it in Keynote I get an error message that tells me "The document is not in Powerpoint Format." No matter what I try to get this to open it will not. I have a Mac Book Air running v:10.8.3 with the latest version of Keynote.
Would anyone be able to offer me help or suggestions? Here is a DropBox link to the PPT. https://www.dropbox.com/s/fcj1ivb9qucr5j0/Sunless%20101%20Course%20-%202013%20-% 20Hedlux%20-%20v16.pptx I have opened hundreds of .pptx files in Keynote and this is the first issue I have ever had.
Thank you in advance for any help that anyone can give me.
    Riley

Your PowerPoint file runs OK on my machine. I can think of a number of issues that are causing the file not to open.
However, what I would do, as you have little time to problem solve this issue, is playback the presentation in Open Office. This application is freeware its used by many government departments and universities in every country of the world. I use it daily in place of Microsoft Office.
    Download it here:
    Open Office for Mac
Change the security setting for this download only as the Mac OS settings prevent all downloads except those from the App Store, once downloaded, you can change it back:

  • Can Keynote 5.1.1 read .pptx files?

Keynote came up as just a bunch of blank slides.

    Any converters out there?

I just tried opening a Mac .pptx file in Keynote and it worked. Not much help I know but it means the problem is specific to your file rather than general.

  • Powerpoint won't open (error 108 and 8060)

I tried to rename a PowerPoint file using Microsoft Office 2011. Afterward, the file would not open (giving me error 108) and when I tried to copy or move the file to a USB flashdrive or to Dropbox, it said the file is either locked or damaged and couldn't copy (giving me error 8060). The permissions are not locked, though, and the only reason the file could be corrupted is if it didn't like that I tried to change its name. When I tried to look at the File info and tell it to open with Powerpoint, I got error 35 saying my harddrive (Macintosh HD) is not available. Anyone else experience this or know how to access the Powerpoint? I recorded about 30 audio files saved in the powerpoint yesterday for a project at work and would really like to not have to re-record them.
    Thanks!

not sure this is helpful. but i am getting the same error code when trying to open a pdf file. also when i was changing a pages poster i had created for my website and exported it to pdf on desktop., which then wouldnt open because of the error code 1 660. i know your problem is different (sounds complicated) but this is a new problem it used to do it , but not anymore, so i think it's strange and dont know why. any clues anybody?

When I attempt to open a PDF file I saved from a website using Safari, I get the message "There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired." When I save the same PDF file using FireFox it opens up immediately. Is there any way to correct this problem with Safari?

    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it as well, if it's present.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

  • With OSX10.7.5 and Adobe Reader 11.0.02 when I try to open a PDF downloaded from the web I get 'There was an error opening this document. This file is damaged and could not be repaired. Preview will not open either. Older PDFs OK.

I am running OS X 10.7.5 and Adobe Reader 11.0.02. In the last few days I have been unable to open PDF's downloaded from the web. Reader gives the error message 'There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired'. Removing Reader and trying to use Preview to open these files give the error 'Preview cannot open this file. It may be damaged or use a file format that Preview doesn't recognise' (or something like that). Downloading the same files with Reader removed from my Mac Preview opens the files OK.
I was recently prompted to update Adobe software but did not note exactly what the update was nor when it was done.
Reader and Preview will both open PDFs I downloaded a week ago. Reader will also open files downloaded on another Mac running OS X 10.0.0 and copied to my Mac. Any ideas?

  • Kde 4.6.1, 4.6.2 widget-folderview, rename a file gives an error.

I already submitted the issue on bugs.kde.org:
    https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=270414
    Version:           unspecified (using KDE 4.6.2)
    OS:                Linux
When i rename a file using folderview, the file is renamed, but an error is
    triggered.
    Reproducible: Always
    Steps to Reproduce:
-place a folderview widget on the desktop
-rename a file from 'oldname' to 'newname'
    Actual Results:
    - see the error message: "The file or folder oldname does not exist."
    - see that the file has been renamed to 'newname'
    Expected Results:
Don't throw an unuseful error message, it is clear that 'oldname' does not
    exists anymore.
...but it seems that at least someone can't reproduce it on kubuntu packages
    ------- Comment #1 From Nikos Papas 2011-04-09 18:22:21 -------
I cannot reproduce the error. Using KDE 4.6.2, 64bit, Kubuntu packages.
Can somebody try to reproduce under arch please?
    Thank you very much!

    I can reproduce this error.
I tried renaming a file in the folder view, and renaming a file in a sub-folder off of the folder view.
In all cases, I got the "does not exist" error, and the re-named file.
    Arch: 64-bit
    KDE: 4.6.2

My friend made sure that the files in question opened without issue on his computer (a PC). Further, I was able to open one of these "damaged" files on my Android phone, but I cannot open them on the Macbook Air. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • SSRS PDF Export. There was an error opening this document. This file is damaged and could not be repaired

    Hello,
I just experienced this problem, and was able to successfully mitigate.  I wanted to share my experience and Solution.
The problem started with the following error after succesfully exporting a PDF Document.  "There was an error opening this document. This file is damaged and could not be repaired."
This is only applicable if you can still export and open SSRS Reports to other formats. Go to the Log files of the SQL Instance. In my particular case I used the Default MSSQL instance:   C:\ Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSRS10_50.MSSQLSERVER\Reporting
    Services\LogFiles
The Folder will begin with MSRS (SRS is for SQL Reporting Services)
Sort the files by date modified and check for the most recent log file: ex.  SQLDmpr0000.log  The 0000 will be the incremental amount of errors you have experienced in SRS. Check for the following error:
"System.DllNotFoundException: Unable to load DLL 'T2Embed': Access is denied. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070005 (E_ACCESSDENIED))"
Below is a sample from the log.

If you notice the error states that T2Embed.dll access is denied. In my case this due to a hotfix installed by Microsoft:
MS11-087: Vulnerability in Windows kernel-mode drivers could allow remote code execution: December 13, 2011
Be advised, in order to fix your problem and render pdf's, a vulnerability shall be created.
To fix this issue and allow the export to PDF work correctly, you must give the system Read/Execute Permissions, and Built-in\Administrators Full Control.
Go to Windows\System32 and find the T2Embed.dll Go to Security and modify the permissions as listed above. Do the same to the T2Embed.dll in the SysWow64 folder.
Restart Reporting Services and you will be able to export to PDF.
    Best Wishes!

I'm not convinced this is the exact cause of the issue.  I will check my log files to see if I find anything like what you described.  However, I get this error when a particular user tries to do a "print preview" from a custom button.  The
code builds a ReportViewer object, sets the ReportPath, etc.
The reason I'm not convinced is because we have a separate reports page that has the report viewer embedded into it.  If the user generates the report that way and exports to PDF, Word, etc...the user can generate the file and be on their way.  As
soon as the user clicks our "Print" button on the page without the ReportViewer embedded, the above mentioned error occurs.
UPDATE: Perhaps we have a different problem since my issue is from a custom button.  I found the solution
here and confirmed the solution with the customer.  It had to do with the code using Response.Flush() instead of Response.End().
One thing I noticed before I implemented the change: When you would close the PDF, it would ask you to save changes to the PDF.  After implementing Response.End() instead, that prompt went away.  No doubt it has to do with the differences between
how Response.Flush() and Response.End() handle the stream returned.
Anyway, posting in case someone has the same issue.
