Renaming question in Bridge CS3

When renaming, Bridge automaticaly renames a tif and jpg of the same name, the new name. For example, if a tif and jpg of the same photo are named 1.tif, and 1.jpg, and I batch rename these 2.xxx, both files will be renamed the same 2.xxx. Which is great. But I want to throw the original CR2 Raw file in the mix. So there will be three files of the same photo in the folder. I want to rename all three files of the same photo the same file name, not counting the extention of course.
How in the world do I do this, or can it be done at all?
Thanks for any help.

I think I understand. You're renaming your files and the name includes consecutive sequence numbers? And you want the GIF, JPG, and PNG (for example) of a particular image to all have the same sequence number in the name? (frog1.gif frog1.jpg frog1.png)...where all three files are otherwise identical photos of the same frog.
If the above is true, you are correct, Bridge will rename/renumber the files consecutively with each GIF, JPG and PNG getting a different number. That's a tough nut to crack without doing one of two things:
1) Rename all of the GIFs, then rename all of the PNGs (resetting the number in the Rename Files dialog back to "1" each time), etc.
1.1) This will work great if there are GIF JPG PNG (for example) of every image. The nut gets harder to crack if sometimes an image is just a JPG w/o corresponding GIF and PNG (for example).
2) A second choice is to write a script.

  • Questions re: Bridge CS3

I am new into using Bridge even though I have it for a while. I am trying to solve these problems:
    1. How come some files do not have thumb nail previews, but when I play them in the monitor windows, they play fine. Just no thumb nail preview?
    2. Is there a way to save the meta info of all my files once Bridge has defined them? i.e. I went over my entire HDD, find files, label them, rate them... then, is there a way to export the definitions in case my machine crash then I don't loose these hours of works?
    Thanks.
    Perry

    1. I assume you are talking about thumbs for video files. I think it grabs the first frame of the video, which may be a blank screen. I have gotten around this by using snipping tool in Vista to make a jpeg shot to represent the video.
    2. Type in Metadata in Bridge Help and see if that answers your questions. Don't mix up the concept of metadata with keywords and ratings.
    3. It is always the best to back up you data to another hard drive or to CD's. A hard drive will fail at some point, usually when you have not backed up for a long time.

  • Questions: using Bridge CS3 to create ID contact sheets

I just discovered the powerful tool to create multi-page contact sheets from Bridge to InDesign.
By default, it will generate a 1 pt border color around the image as well as the caption text box. Also, there is no predefined text type and size. Photoshop contact sheets will let you choose the font type as well as the size.
Is there an extra script I need to download for InDesign or Bridge in order accomplish this or am I missing an option within one of these programs?

  • Bridge cs3 preview and slideshow question

    Hi
    i have a question
does bridge cs3 need cache (drive space) to preview a photo or to see my photo with the slideshow feature ?
i mean does bridge need to render and store the photos in the database to let me see in the slideshow or browsing
    i don't talk about thumbs
or does it on the fly?
    thanks

If you don't need High Quality for thumbnails then select Quick Thumbnails in preferences.
I think as soon as you point Bridge to a folder of images it goes to work caching the thumbnails and previews.  I'm using cs4, have forgotten how cs3 does it for quick thumbnails.  You could point Bridge to a new folder of jpegs and watch the rotating indicator status display at the bottom; and you might get more information by posting in the Bridge forum.

  • Metadata & XMP files in Bridge CS3 under Windows XP

Question regarding Bridge CS3, 2.1.1.9, on a computer running Windows XP Pro, Service Pack 3:
A useful feature seems to have disappeared from my installation of Bridge. In Horizontal Filmstrip view, I used to see a little icon over the thumbnails showing the CR2 files that I had opened and processed in Camera Raw. The icon was a small circle with a downward-pointing triangle, if I recall. The CR2 files that I had never opened in Camera Raw did not show that icon. Now I never see the icons, even for those CR2 files for which the XMP file is present in the same folder as the CR2 file.
Is there a way that I can get Bridge to display those icons again?
    Thanks.

CS3 does have a symbol for a modified RAW thumb. This differentiates if from the unmodified RAW thumb. A circle with 2 arrows in it I believe.

  • Bridge CS3 frozen

I am using a MacBook Pro with OS 10.6.3 and have been having ongoing problems with my Bridge CS3 running slowly and freezing after being in use for many hours.
My immediate problem is:  I went into preferences/cache and checked the 'Automatically Export Caches to Folders When Possible' box thinking that it would help the program run more smoothly, and now Bridge is unresponsive.  I have tried force quitting, restarting both the program and my computer, and still Bridge is frozen.
When I launch Bridge CS3 the program window appears on the screen, and if I move fast enough it allows me to perform one click (I have tried directing it to a smaller folder and/or opening preferences and unchecking the 'automatic export caches to folders' as well as purging my cache).  Once I have made my one click, the program freezes again.   There is also a little spinning icon in the bottom left corner of the window that indicates that something is happening, but even after letting the program run for up to an hour, nothing.
Using Bridge is a vital aspect of my running my business ~ I am dependent on it, so need to use it daily.  Please help me resolve this issue.  I am dead in the water until I get Bridge up and functional again.
    Thanks!
    Susan

One last question: I'm a professional photographer, but I do not depend on
cached folders and files.  I edit in Bridge, previewing almost every image
(there are thousands of them - hi res too), and then process only the choices
(very few) in Camera Raw, and then retouch in Photoshop; saving my finished
files in new folders on my external drive (which is backed up).  I don't
understand the value of cached folders.  Can you explain please.
    HI Susan
Glad to hear your problems are solved, just keep a record of this method, as
long as you are in CS3 you will certainly need it again sooner or later I'm
    afraid...
The value of keeping folders cached can be very great although keeping the
Cache forever is not the best choice. But that is the way Bridge works. You
can compress the cache and customize  the size (that is, in CS5) so it
overwrites the oldest files but still not ideal in my opinion.
I have a similar workflow as you do with selecting lot's of files and use
only a few to work with. But I don't use much separate folders, usually have
one main folder that is set in Photodownloader as default destination.
I use PDL for downloading from card reader, converting to DNG, renaming with
shot date and sequence number and adding metadata template with copyright
and back up original Raw files to separate HD.
Having Bridge mostly pointed to that main folder the caching starts
automatically for the files (Always HQ) and when the downloading is finished
the caching is almost also done. Plus I don't have to navigate to many
    different folders.
Mostly I don't start immediately on a large project for several reasons and
therefore put them away in stacks. I sometimes have 5 or 6000 files in this
folder but with organizing in stacks it is very easy to overview and find
    them back.
And here is for me the great value of a cached folder, The next day after
restart I can immediately start again to work on that folder and see the
previews in HQ and being able to start selecting with arrow keys and
    cmd+.(dot) to increase rating.
The none selected (using the filter panel to sort and select those easily),
go to separate folders (one folder each day) for my DNG archive using drag
and drop in the folder panel. I don't bother about caching for them, if I do
I use the prefer embedded method, fast and for that purpose enough quality.
The developed  DNG files (rated/labeled) are after finishing in PS moved to
the same DNG archive (with rating and settings so if needed easy traceable).
The saved PSD files go in an other main folder and after adding additional
metadata (IPTC description etc)and proper renaming I can distribute them
with Save as actions customized in size and resolution for client needs,
    leaving the originals untouched.
It would be nice if Bridge was also able to work as a Digital Asset
Management Application but during the cycle from file browser in PSCS to
current Bridge 4 in PSCS5 it failed me many times for this purpose and to be
honest it still is not capable to work with tons of files in a way a
specialized DAM application does. Mainly due to cache problems and slow
    indexing and find options.
Each new version is getting better (faster, stable) but I decided to use
Canto Cumulus as DAM for my main archive of finished imaged that I need to
keep and easy to find. Cumulus does so and I'm very happy with that
It would also be preferable if Bridge deleted cache for older files but to
be honest, I yet have to figure out how that can be done together with
    satisfaction for all users....
Meantime I can't imagine working without Bridge and I learned to live with
deleting the cache file (in my case it grows sometimes to 35 GB in size)
every now and then. As said, for CS3 very often CS4 and especially CS5
rarely and mainly for saving space

  • Bridge CS3 and Duotone: odd behavior

    Hello all.
Are there any users of Bridge CS3 that work with duotone images?
The new version of bridge displays the color mode correctly as Duotone, but now the color profile is still the profile of what it was when the image was in RGB mode (Adobe RGB, ProPhoto, etc).
In Bridge CS2, the color profile of duotone images was always displayed as sRGB IEC1966-2.1. At least then it was constant across all my images.
However in both Photoshop CS2 and CS3, duotone images show up as "untagged duotone" Color Profile what gives?
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.
    -Andrew

    Ramón,
Thank you for your reply. The only times I have purged the cache has been through the Tools menu, as i've read from various people, including you, that the other option is "broken".
    Omke,
In Grayscale color mode, Bridge shows the color profile that's embedded in the image. That comes from the Gray Working Profile selected in Photoshop's "color settings." The only way i know of to create a duotone is to start with a grayscale image. Even the "conditional mode change" function in File > Automate converts the image to grayscale as an intermediate step.
Now, on to the original question, open to anybody who works with duotones in Bridge...
    a) Does anybody know why Bridge CS3 is treating the color profile of duotones differently than in CS2.
    b) is there any way to make it consistently show one profile? -- at this point i don't care muchly what profile it's displaying as long as it's the same for all my duotones.

  • How can I get Adobe Media Gallery for Bridge CS3

I want to create an online photo gallery for 3rd party client proofing. I am using a reference book byScott Kelby (the editor of 'Photshop User' magazine) and he refers to Adobe Media Gallery: ( Bridge CS3 / Windows / Workspace / Adobe Media Gallery).
He states that although AMG wasn't initially shipped with CS3, Adobe released a free update for bridge and once installed it is possible to download AMG from labs.adobe.com.
I am unable to find any reference to AMG or any download/upgrades
    (Windows XP/ Bridge 2.1.1.9/ Ps CS3 Extended 10.0.1)

    Good day Geoff,
You can download the Adobe Reader 10.0.0 installer .EXE file from here:
    ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/10.x/10.0.0/en_US/AdbeRdr1000_en_US.exe
Once you've downloaded it, you can burn it to a disc or copy it to a thumbdrive to bring to the PC that's offline.
Please let us know if you have any questions.
    Kind regards,
    David

  • Bridge CS3 slowdown, upgrade to 5 or 6 on Mac?

My OSX is 10.8.4 and I use PSE10 for mac with Bridge CS3. Recently, I have observed a major slowdown in bridge and some annoying interactions with PSE10. I have about 17,000 jpegs (of insects) organized in hierarchical folders, i.e., taxonomically. I have 4 GB of memory, recently installed.
    1) It now takes several seconds to scroll down through the images in any folder.
    2) Often, when I shift-click to highlight files (to move or rename them), PSE10 opens the files when I don't want it to. Very annoying. I have taken to waiting for a full second or two before I do anything.
    3) Bridge also crashes frequently, at least once a day, and I use it every day.
OK, would upgrading to Bridge CS5 or 6 fix this problem? Or is this a system thing? And would Bridge CS5 or 6 work with PSE10?

    I agree with Curt,
    in addition to his post:
OK, would upgrading to Bridge CS5 or 6 fix this problem? Or is this a system thing? And would Bridge CS5 or 6 work with PSE10?
Bridge is designed for use with Creative Suite applications an PS elements is not part of the Creative Suite or the Creative Cloud. It might be possible to use Bridge with PSE for opening files in but the advantage of using start up scripts for Photoshop is not available for PS elements.
I believe PSE 8 for Mac is the only version of PSE that came with Bridge (version 3, part of CS4) so that might be a route for you to follow as the cheapest option.
Also every new version of Bridge needs a new cache for all the files. (not a big deal but it takes some time with all your files. You have to select the main folder and use 'show items from subfolders' and then let it run overnight to recache again.
Can you specify what computer you are using. While the minimum required RAM is still advertised as 1 GB you certainly will gain from putting as much RAM as possible in your machine.

  • Bridge CS3- Labels & Ratings disappear after processed in Noiseware (was okay in Bridge CS)

Okay, I guess I should count my blessings that this is about the only annoying, recurring problem I've had with Bridge CS3, unlike the crashes that others are dealing with.
Windows XP w/ core 2 6600 2.4GHZ, 3GB ram. A large percentage of my 300GB hard drive is used but that was the case when I used to run Bridge CS. Software- Adobe CS3 Web Suite
Whenever I run a file through Noiseware (Stand alone version) I lose all labels and ratings. This did not happen with Bridge CS version. Anyone experiencing the same? I am always referring back to my ratings and labels so it's a major problem to lose them. Only thing I can do for now is save it with a new file name and then re-rate & label the newly processed file to match the original, but when you are dealing with dozens, if not 100's of files, 2 extra steps is a lot of wasted time!
Thanks in advance for any input.

Thanks curt. I had that problem way back when I first upgraded and it had something to do with renaming files. I fixed that but I still cannot fix this conflict with noiseware software. It blows...to lose all my labels & ratings everytime I have to use the noiseware.
I wish ADOBE would help!?!?!? Where are you guys? Seems like once you purchase the software, we're just on our own!

  • Camera Raw in Bridge (CS3 for Mac) malfunctions

When processing DNG files in Bridge (CS3) neither Default nor Auto adjustments apply by default. And when choosing Auto the image becomes very dark. How can I correct this? Also where do I place newly downloaded Camera Raw Plugin? Does it need to be physically placed in both PS and Bridge?

Did you have also the solution for the first part?
I would prefer the default setting for a standard instead of the auto. Hit
auto might give you a hint in the direction you want but it is very
difficult to have this correctly for each file to my opinion.
But if you would like so you can make your own default camera setting. Make
the settings you want and then go to the menu under the little triangle
right next to basics in the ACR window. Inhere you will see an option to
save a new camera default. In the camera raw prefs (also reachable in
Bridge) you can choose to make those camera specific or even iso specific.
I found the answer to the second part of my question about installing the ACR
    plugin

  • Adding metadata to .m1v files in Bridge CS3

I have video files (no audio) .m1v files that I need to tag with Metadata in bridge. One problem when I try to do this in Bridge CS3 version 2.1.1.9- I get an error message saying
"The file "filename.m1v" cannot store XMP metadata. No changes will occur"
Does anyone know of a workaround to this problem
2 solutions I have already considered are to
    1. rename the files to .mpg, but there are many files and I do not want to corrupt any of them
    2. Don't export to .m1v files- instead use .mpg ALWAYS- (export silent audio track)
So anyone? any other ideas of what can be done
    Thanks
    Tony

    Thanks again Jim
This was not the answer I wanted to hear. So I contacted Adobe directly- They are very quick- they responded within 24 hours via email of course and reiterated what you said- I guess I just needed "official" word from Adobe, before I went to plan B
Anyways If anyone ever has problems like this where you got a bunch of .m1v files and you need to tag them with metadata- I suggest to do what I am doing and download tmpegenc it is a great little piece of software that will convert your .m1v files to .mpg files that you can now tag within bridge, Beauty
I will NEVER export to .m1v AGAIN
    Thanks TMPEG
    Thanks Jim and Thanks Adobe
    Best Wishes

  • Tags / Keywords PSE6 -- Bridge CS3 how???

    Hello,
sorry to cause inconvenience to you but i can´t find an answer to my question here in the forum.
I read a lot of similar threads, but no one answerd my problem BridgeCS3 <-> PSE6.
    What i have:
    Bridge CS3 / Photoshop CS3 / Photoshop Elements 6.0
    What i want to do:
At this time i organize all my photos with the Organizer of PSE6 and put keywords
with the Tags-function from PSE6 to my photos.
Now i want to change to the bridge to organize my photos.
    What i need:
Now i need a functionality to import all my keywords/tags from PSE6 into the bridge.
What i have done until now:
In PSE6-Organizer i export all my keywords to a file. The automatic generated file
from PSE6 is named: stichwort.xml . I can´t change the format or name in PSE6 to write the Tags
    to a file.
In the bridge i tried to import the "stichwort.xml"-File, but that doesnt work.. There are no structures
and useable Keywords coming into the bridge.
So... is it general possible to import the Tags/Structure form PSE6 into the BridgeCS3 ??
And when... what´s my fault? Can you give me a hint?
    Thanks for help.
    Bye

There was a post some time ago that I will try to recall - hopefully not too inaccurately. I have never used PSE so don't really know what you are trying to do.
The way I remember it PSE uses some sort of a table for the keywords. Bridge does not, but embeds the information as metadata to each file. Apparently this is more of a standardized format for the data and can be used by other applications.
For a clearer explanation on how the information is handled go to Bridge Help and type in metadata. It does say something about ability to export metadata so maybe that would work for you.
Before you go to all that effort you might investigate how PSE Organizer may handle the data in the future. Can never tell - the next upgrade may change that feature also. Perhaps PSE forum?

  • Bridge CS3 - RAW does not have previews

RAW files can be open in Photoshop CS3 but not in Bridge CS3. They appear only as CR2 files.
I've replaced the camera raw plug in to use the latest which is version 4.6 but it does not fix the problem.
I purged the cache in different ways. When starting the program by holding the CTRL+SHIFT key.
I also tried to manually rename the Bridge CS3 folders inside the AppData location.
    - I even purged the cache via the Preferences area and it still did not fix the problem.
I am using Vista 32-bit here.
What else do I have to try?

Have you looked at all the posts on ACR and checked to see if the plug-in is in the correct folder, and only one plug in-there?
See post #11 in this link.

  • Problem with changing Label in Bridge CS3 and CS6

    Hi there,
I am having some problem with changing Label in Bridge CS3 and CS6 in windows.
    1. In Bridge CS3 (Windows XP), most of the time with most of the files, there is no problem. But I found that in some files, the Label does not get changed. I usually change Label by right clicking on the picture, then Label and select any Label. When I do so in those files, nothing happens. But when I rename the file by changing or adding just a single character, then it works. And if I again rename to original name, it still works. But without renaming the Label does not change. Again this does not happen with all pictures, but occationally with some. We usually receive pictures from different clients for editing purpose.
    2. In Bridge CS6 (Windows 7), if you create lot of Path using Pen tool in Photoshop for the purpose of removing background, you save the file, close, and change Label in Bridge, again open the file in Photoshop, you see no Path in the Path Pallette. So that means, changing Label works, but it removes the Path from the file. But if there is small amount of path, then no prboblem. But if there is lot of path, like you need to create for a necklace to remove background, then the problem arises.
I am using Bridge for a purpose where it is very helpful so I really need to use Bridge, and Labeling feature is the most important to me, but after feaguring out this problem, I am really tensed as to whether or not I will find a solution to this. So any help, guidance will really be appreciated.
Thanks very much in advance for any solution.
    Best regards

I have re-checked the issue and I found that the problem is with JPG file.
I wasn't even aware you could save a path to a jpeg file (always use PSD because of wanting to keep the Alpha Channel, jpeg only can contain 1 layer and no alpha channels and/or transparency).
However I tried it on a file with a simple path and one with a complex path. It seems indeed you have found a bug. The simple path is no problem but the more complex path is indeed disappearing.
It is not only label but also rate or adding IPTC in the description field. The moment metadata is saved to this jpeg file and reopened the earlier present work path of a more complex path is gone.
Despite the fact that to my opinion a jpeg is not the most suitable file format for saving a work path this should not happen. If a work path is saved to a jpeg then it should be kept saved after just altering metadata in Bridge.
It still is the same behavior in Bridge CC because that is what I use. Don't know when it started but it still needs to be repaired
