Renaming Sheets in Numbers

I cannot change the names of the sheets in my Numbers documents.
I double-click on the sheet name, type the new name, then I've tried pushing "enter" or clicking elsewhere in the document. All I get in return is the "you can't do that" sound (electronic "bump").
I can't do anything else in that document unless I delete the name I just typed, at which point it reverts back to the sheet's previous name. Is this a bug in the app or is there a specific way I to rename sheets that I don't know about?

The only times I've had that happen is when I tried to give a sheet (or table) a name that was already in use in the same document. Is there anythig unusual about the name you are trying to use (eg. special characters)?

Barry

  • How can I paste a part of a sheet from Numbers in Pages as text, without the formulas. The reason I need this (and was used to in Office) so that I have the freedom to delete something in one cell (in pages document) without causing changes.

How can I paste a part of a sheet that I copied in Numers in a pages document without the formulas, simply as text. Used this a lot in Office. When I make some changes in the pages document. f.i. deleting a cell, I don't want to change other cells. Also when I copy a part of a sheet from Numbers and one of the cells that is part of the formula is not also copied, when I paste in Pages it shows as an error.
Hope that You can me help with this.

    Leon,
There are two solutions to the first question, narrowing to one solution when you have a broken link causing an error.
    Here's the "works always" solution.
Copy (Command-C) the table or range in Numbers
Click off the table on the blank canvas of the sheet.
    Edit > Paste Values
    Command-C
    Switch to Pages
    Command-V

  • How do I delete pages on a sheet in Numbers?

How do I delete pages on a sheet in Numbers? I have 6 pages, and only need 2.

"Totally unintuitive" is often a way of saying "not the way I've become accustomed to."
In the Numbers Help menu, you will see "Numbers '09 User Guide." Choosing this item downloads a searchable PDF file containing the guide—a much better and easier to use resource than the indexed, but not fully searchable Help files.
Numbers uses a model sufficiently different from "what you've been accustomed to" that I'd recommend reading at least the first two (or three) chapters straight through. The rest of the guide can be left to read on an 'as needed' basis.
You'll also find a link to the iWork formulas and functions User Guide in the Help menu. If you're going to write formulas in your spreadsheets, you'll want to download that as well, and keet it available as a reference guide.

PS: I found this particular aspect of Numbers (what you see on the screen is what you get, but you can scale it to fit on fewer—or more—pages if you want) a fairly 'intuitive' (read: 'familiar') concept, since I'd been using the similar 'resize' feature with copy machines to make copied originals fit the page size to which I was copying them for as long as it has been available.

  • I created a spreadsheet using Microsoft office 2010 Excel.  When I open the sheet using Numbers, the formatting changes.  How do I fix this?

I created a spreadsheet using Microsoft office 2010 Excel.  When I open the sheet using Numbers, the formatting changes.  How do I fix this?

If you plan to share or work with people who regulary use MS Excel you should not try to use this in Numbers.  You will have constant problems with how each program translates the formatting.
If you want to use Numbers, use it exclusively.  If it is for your job use the tool your company uses.

  • Docking a sheet in Numbers on the iPad

    Hi,
When viewing a sheet in Numbers on the iPad the sheet moves. I find this disturbing while entering data. Is there a way to dock it so that the sheet remains fixed below the tabs.
    Thanks,
    - R

As far as I can tell, you can print individual sheets in Numbers for iOS (in fact that is the default) but you can only share the entire document (workbook) as pdf.
It should be possible to Share > Open in Another App, remove the unwanted sheets in the other app (such as GoodReader 4), and email from there.

  • Duplicate a sheet using Numbers '09

How do you duplicate a sheet using Numbers '09 on my MacOS X V 10.6.8? Command 'D' doesn't do it!

    Hi pearsonra,
    Numbers '09
Select the Sheet, not the table(s), in the Sheets Panel on the left
    Menu > Edit > Duplicate (command d)

  • I have a table that I want to mirror on another sheet in Numbers

I have a table that I want to mirror on another sheet in Numbers.  Ideally it would be from another file but it looks like numbers doesn't support this right now.
It would be used to combine several regions into one national table file.  Is doing the = for each cell the most efficient way to do this?  Below is a screenshot of how my data is formatted.  This list would be around 30 rows but it could be anywhere from 1 - 150 for each of 8 regions each having their own table.  I want to combine all of those into a master list for the national file.
It also appears that the checkmark box for data does not copy as well.  It returns false but formatting it back into a checkbox loses the = functionallity and it won't update.

    Hi Brandon,
Rather than having eight regional tables and then struggling to consolidate them, have you considered having one table and then extracting regional views and data from it?  In many situations that can be more efficient.
To get a regional view from the master table you could use a filter, something like this (substitute Region for Type):
And extract sums and counts using a summary table for each region, something like this:

  • How do you delete extra "sheets" in numbers? Everytime I start a new document I end up numerous sheets.

How do you delete extra "sheets in Numbers program? Everytime I start a new document it adds extra sheets..

    Hi Beast,
You might find it easier to duplicate the whole doc and delete the sheets you don't want. Otherwise you are copying and pasting tables from each sheet.

  • Rename Tables in Numbers 3.0

I've been using Numbers '09 for several years, and I have one spreadsheet that has 2 sheets (2012, 2013) and each sheet has multiple tables.  In Numbers '09, I was able to copy and entire tables, and after the paste it would have the same name as the previous table.  i.e. Original table would be called Oct 12-13, and the Pasted Table would then be called Oct 12-13-1.  I could then rename the Table to Oct 19-20.  In Numbers 3.0, I am unable to rename tables.
Has anybody been able to find a way to rename individual tables on a sheet?

    Hi dbutlerman,
That confused me too at first. In Numbers '09 I figured out how to display and change the name in the Table Inspector.  In Numbers 3.0 I couldn't find how to change the name in the Table pane at the right.
But I tried doubleclicking the table name itself on the sheet and found I could edit it right there.
For me, more intuitive and convenient than Numbers '09.

  • Rename sheet error

I'm all fully updated, running on Yosemite and when I try to rename a sheet, I type the new name in and hit enter .... then nothing happen. It always reverts back to the default name. Any ideas - is it a bug or should I re install Numbers? I have deleted all old versions of Numbers and the sheet is 'updated' to the latest version.
    Many thanks

    Hi Donna,
Are you renaming the sheet like this?
If that is not working, it looks like you have a faulty version of Numbers.
To reinstall, go to Launchpad and hold down the option key. When the icons jiggle, click on the X top left of the Numbers icon. Go to App Store and re download.

    Ian.

  • I can't convert an Excel sheet to Numbers

I was suggested to ask my question here:
I've created a Numbers sheet on my iPad - sending it to Excel on  a computer it opens and works ok. When sending the sheet back (edited on Excel and) the iPad - Numbers comes up with the following (translated from Danish) "Sheet can not be imported - File format is unvalid".
I've tried to send it as .XLSX and .XLS.
    My Excel version is 2007
Can any of you help me?
    Thanks
    iPad (4th gen) Wi-Fi, iOS 7.1.2

Have you tried opening the .xls or .xlsx file with Numbers on the Mac?
If you don't have a Mac and are using the iPad exclusively, try posting your question here.

  • Is there a way to print or export only one sheet from Numbers on IOS?

    Hello there -
I am attempting to use Numbers to generate proposals and invoices in the field. My route is a simple (hopefully good-looking) front page, various forms by which to enter data and several additional sheets boasting a great many tables containing static data (parts costs by vendor, lists of customers et cetera) and many formulae which do the actual work.
I just want to print/export the proposal or invoice (the front page as massaged by the "engine" on the back pages) rather than the whole flippin' workbook.
    Ideas?
    Thanks,
    Russ

    Hey there -
Nope - at least not when printing to PDF. IOS is a tidge, er, limiting.
I re-posted in the IOS area; we'll see what happens there.
    Thanks again,
    Russ

    Hi Sir Laurance,
    Numbers 3.
Click on the tab of the sheet you want to print to PDF.
    File > Print...
Click on This Sheet in the panel to the bottom right of Print Preview:
    Then click the Print... button
Bottom left of the Print dialoge, click on PDF and Choose Open PDF in Preview
    Print from Preview.
Quit Preview to return to Numbers Print Preview

  • How do I print just part of a sheet in numbers

I'm new to MAC and was told that it is so intuitive...
I havn't found that to be true..I guess that it is "intuitive" to someone who wasn't brought up on TRSDOS and Windows... Visicalc, 123, and Excel...
They all seemed so easy to understand...     Want to print an area of a spreadsheet? Just highlight the area and print it! Simple.
With numbers, I think their inspector is INSPECTOR GADGET..   You have to figure out every step of the way what it's able to do (or NOT do)
I'M FRUSTRATED WITH NUMBERS... JUST WANT TO PRINT PART OF A SHEET. BUT IT WANTS TO PRINT IT ALLLLLLLLLL.
    HELP

Printing of PDF documents being viewed in Firefox is handled by the PDF plugin, not by Firefox, so you'll need to use the "page range" pref in the print dialog for that PDF program if you don't want to print the entire document. AFAIK, Adobe doesn't provide a way of selecting just a part of a page ''(a "selection" from a page as with Firefox on web pages)'' to be printed, but you might want to check that out with Adobe support.
