Renaming Tracks  ??

I have a collection of about 1000 tracks and most of them are missing bits of information. Like track name or artist etc... I heard that there was a way to get the internet to change all of them automatically? I there such a way??
Thanks,
Tom.

Not that I am aware of.... but to edit track names, you can right-click the song in your iTunes Library and then click Get Info, Then click on the Info Tab and add your information.

  • How do i rename tracks in itunes in a imac?

    am new imac owner, previously had a PC and used right-click to rename tracks where itunes wasn't able to get track details when uploading CD's - how do i do this on the imac?  also how do i get album art work?  please don't judge me for ignorance Apple lovers......i have seen the light, i have converted, i just need a little help.....

    You can use Get Info for a selected song - with a song selected at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Get Info - the keyboard shortcut for this will be available next to the Get Info selection.
    iTunes includes an option to check for album artwork for songs that don't have it, or search the web and download your own which can be added via the Get Info function for a selected song. The last tab for the various selections is the artwork - it can be added there.

  • User Interface bug when renaming tracks in list views

    When renaming tracks in the list views, there is a user interface bug that makes it impossible to see what you're doing.  When you select a track in the list view, this is what it looks like:
    Note how the text is white on the darker blue background.  When you click again, to open the inline text editor to rename, this is what you get:
    The background color of the text editor is white, just like the text, so when you type, you can't see what you're typing, nor can you see where in the original text your text insertion cursor is located.
    Thanks!
    Steve.

    I'm frustrated with this same problem. In my case this happens only in my 10.5 macbook air and not in my 10.4 macbook pro. I've been renaming files in the same way in 10.2/10.3 and this never happened. Should be a bug. I've been searching for this issue and found this post at last - I really wonder why there aren't so many people mentioning this.

  • Rename tracks on the ipod

    i am a regular user of media center but there was a problem with renaming tracks so i used itunes to rename the tracks.
    i used media center to put all my album art on my mp3s, and as soon as i use itunes the dam program deletes many hours of work, it was good that itunes sorted out my renaming tracks but why did the itunes delete all my album art? and is there a way to get it back?
    the album art is on the ipod but is not showing when playing the songs.
    also i restarted the computer because i wanted to see if i could restore the album art with media center but Media center would not load, but when i start windows the toolbar in the bottom right corner did not show anything there, usually normal stuff like local area network and the virus scanner load automatically but it didn't this time, when i loaded the virus shield manually it said there is a threat on the computer, i don't think i should re connect my ipod to the computer until this is solved? please help!! because i don't want my ipod to go dead or anything.
    i regret using that itunes now

    i knew it, phew.... becasue i don't use itunes i mainly use media center, media center does not have the option to rename songs that are already on the ipod thats why i used itunes. and thats is why my songs are not in itunes libary.
    i am going to try something else, it's going to be very long but what option do i have i will re sync ipod and add album art to each song via itunes. becasue i can't add album art to songs that already on the ipod with meda center. i hope i can do that?
    dam i selected all the files and itunes deleted everything! now i have to start all over anyway!

  • Can you batch rename tracks in iTunes for Mac?

    I want to do a sequential track naming, but I can't figure how to do this and the Doug's applescript isn't working - it renames my FILES instead of the TRACKS!
    These tracks are from an audiobook on CD, and it's tiresome to have to search for the "part" when all the tracks are numbered 1-99 and the only thing keeping them from being in the wrong order is the fact that I told iTunes the disc order in the 'Get Info' menu. It wouldn't be so hard on the MacBook, but I usually listen to these on my iPhone, and scrolling through literally hundreds of tracks takes forever, and sometimes I STILL can't find which track was playing last!
    I've done a batch rename using an Automator workflow setup I found on the web, but I can't find anything that lets me actually rename the tracks. I've even deleted the tracks from iTunes, renamed the files, deleted the faulty script that screwed things up, and it STILL comes up with the weird numbers and track numbers and renames the files in Finder!!!
    I'm getting really frustrated with this and don't want to have to rename tracks by hand because that takes HOURS.

    Hi,
    Here is an AppleScript example of how to rename tracks in iTunes :
    display dialog "What will be the base name?" default answer "Track "
    set baseName to text returned of the result
    set n to 1 -- the starting number
    tell application "iTunes"
          repeat with thisTrack in (get selection) -- rename selected tracks
                set name of thisTrack to baseName & n
                set n to n + 1
          end repeat
    end tell
    Without more information, I can not make script specific to your needs.

  • Anyone have success using mergetrack to rename tracks?

    We have tried the Java API and some other test code to rename tracks using mergetrack. All of the other track metadata appears to be correctly editable except the track name. Have any of you been able to rename tracks without re-uploading files? If so, how?
    Thanks,
    Marc

    There is a current workaround for this problem.
    In your web service, use the <Title></Title> tags in place of the Name tags.
    The sample XML should look like:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <ITunesUDocument>
    <Version>1.0.1</Version>
    <MergeTrack>
    <TrackHandle>12345</TrackHandle>
    <Track>
    <Title>New Name Here</Title>
    <Handle/>
    <Kind/>
    <DiscNumber/>
    <DurationMilliseconds/>
    <AlbumName/>
    <ArtistName/>
    <DownloadURL/>
    </Track>
    </MergeTrack>
    </ITunesUDocument>

  • Manualy renaming tracks in itunes not working properly?

    this being my 5th or 6th ipod since ive started collecting them several years ago, i shouldnt even have this question
    i manually manage all of my songs/play lists through itunes to begin with
    when i rename the artist, album or genre i have no problems,
    but when i try and rename the NAME of the track is almost seems that itunes clicks me out of the window making it almost impossible for me to rename a song.
    i just updated to itunes 7.4.3, which i thought would solve the problem, and also restored my ipod once, which also has the most upto date software on it.
    i just had a 5generation 80 gig ipod about a month ago which i sold to buy the new thinner classic... i had NO problems ever with that one... but this new classic ipod made me install a new version of itunes which has done NOTHING BUT GIVE ME PROBLEMS.
    anyone have the same problem?

    Yes! I've noticed the same thing in the most recent release or two of iTunes. Occasionally I like to change the track name from the main iTunes screen by using the <F2> key to go into "text edit" mode while the track is selected. This always worked fine before. But now, if I try to use the arrow keys or the delete key to move through or edit the selected text (track title), it seems to "save" the change (or not?) and immediately kick me out of "edit mode".
    There's something funny going on. Sure wish it would go back to the way it was before. Editing track names from the main screen is no longer really viable.

  • Renaming Tracks Freezes iTunes for Two Minutes

    I am not sure if this is an iTunes 8, Windows XP (I suspect so), or an iPhone 2.2 software issue.
    When renaming audio tracks in a playlist on iPhone 3G, for instance by adding a zero in order to
    correct a sequence of tracks in a playlist
    iTunes freezes for about two minutes.
    I assume this is the time it is taking to sync the change, although, there is no other indicator
    that there is a syncing process going on.
    This may also be a similar symptom to: iTunes 8x (Windows XP) seems to take an inordinate
    amount of time to recognize the iPhone after plugging into the USB2 port.
    Thanks for any advice

    If you copy these two files over to her account, they will be exactly the same.
    What are the iTunes library files?

  • Rename Track Titles from Track 1, Track 2, Track 3, ... to 1a, 1b, 1b

    I have an audiobooks album let say 7 Disc.
    I want to rename the track titles (ID3) track names from Track 1, Track 2, Track 3, to 1a, 1b, 1c,...., Disc 2->2a, 2b, 2c, 2d, ..., Disc 3->3a, 3b, 3c, 3d...
    I am not interested in using Get Info to manually change the Track name. Is there some type of Itunes Add on for Itunes Windows or some alternative program to rename the Track names.
    I found program call reNamer and Magic File Renamer 6.12. They rename the file name not the track name.

    I forgot I had this tool -- it's something I wrote before I made the audiobook helper I already linked to you in my last message.
    This program reads the track number and disc number from the ID3 tag and renames the track name exactly as you want (1a, 1b, 1c ... 2a, 2b, 2c... etc.).
    So, select the tracks in iTunes you want to rename, then run the EXE. I've included the perl source code in the zip. If you have perl installed you can run it directly; otherwise view it in a text editor.
    I'm hosting this on my "old" google site because I've run out of space on my normal homepage:

  • Rename tracks and copy all to one directory

    I have all media sorted in 'typical way' in iTunes. I am tired of this kind of sorting and prefer all the tracks in one directory named as Artist-Album-Track.
    I wonder if there is any utility that I can run on iTuned Media Music folder and get ALL tracks renamed the way I want and copy them to a single directory (preferably in one go).
    Many thanks in advance.

    Again as long as the tracks are properly tagged niether Winamp nor MediaMonkey really care about the physical layout of the files, although both can let you browse your library via location as well as other properties. Disc & track numbers would let you play albums in the correct order if needed when using path as the selection criteria.
    Its not what I would recommend, but assuming you're still going to use iTunes to add media to the iPad at some point the first thing would be to go to Edit > Preferences > Advanced turn off the options Keep... & Copy...
    With MediaMonkey' Auto-Organize Files... feature using this pattern ..\..\<Artist>-<Album>-<Title> would pop all the tracks up from their respective album folders into the main Music folder and name them as requested. I don't have a copy of WinAmp installed at present but I seem to recall it has a feature to reorganize media, though I don't know how flexible it is.
    Once the tracks are where you want them delete the broken links from iTunes, then add back again, or do it as and when you want to use iTunes to manage your device.

  • How can I stop iTunes automatically renaming tracks incorrectly as soon as they are played?

    iTunes has started renaming some tracks as soon as I play them. It completely changes all the info to a totally different cd. The only way I can change it is to manually change everything back and as I have more than 30000 tracks I don't fancy having to play every single one to see whether iTunes is going to change it to something I have never heard of. Can this automatic renaming be stopped?

    Could it be something with iTunes-Match/iCloud ??
    I've had problems getting "Hide items in the Cloud" and iCloud tick-boxes in View Options to stick.
    An occaisional glance at similar topics on these forums seems to indicate that people are having all sorts of funnies. So, I have severed iTunes from the net (I have Little Snitch) and will wait until things clear up before letting iTunes out of it's kennel again.

  • How to automatically rename tracks according to file name

    Hi all,
    this is probabaly a very simple fix but for some reason its foxing me today,
    in CS6 when importing multiple audio files, is there a way of automatically naming the tracks the same as the file name.
    eg if the file is labeled 'snare.wav' and you import it into Track 1, then the track is then renamed 'snare'
    thanks.

    Thanks for the reply Steve, I understand the implications your refering to, I just wondered if there was an option to turn this on if required, so for instance if i am importing 70 or so audio files i dont have to go through and name each track one by one.
    something similar to the 'Use Audio File Name as Track Name' option in Logic would be useful.
    regards

  • Itunes renaming songs and tracks to the incorrect ones, e.g. renaming all Various Artists to be Gym Class Heroes when played on my ipod, and incorrectly renaming tracks at random.

    Also some songs are imported twice and named different things? I dont know why itunes has done this, and its on purchased products mainly.
    I have switched back all the various artists defaults once, and it has just switched it back when synced with my ipod. How can i solve this issue?

    There may be some inconsistency in the capitalizations, or some of the tracks may be marked as Disc 1 of 1 while others are Disc <Blank> of <Blank>  See Grouping tracks into albums for more details.

  • Is there a way to rename tracks in i-tunes

    i have music i have loaded and it shows up as 'track 1'. need to be able to label it, please help

    Right click on the track you want to edit, and select "get info." It will bring up a window. At the top of the window click the "Info" tab, and then you will see all the song info, and you can edit it by selecting and typing the desired information in the fields provided.

  • Renaming tracks on imported audio books

    During the xmas break I have gotten 10+ books from locak library.
    3 so far do not get the info from grace note. I am individually naming
    each track
    01 Track 01
    01 Track 02
    I've looked through the previous posts and get MANY hists about track names.
    One person described the problem exactly. The only answer that showed was to use the OS finder to find music files. I tried this and could not see how
    this was going to benefit.
    Anyone know how to prepend every track name with the same value?
