Renaming users in Messaging Server 6.1

Hi!
I'm using Messaging Server 6.1 with schema 2. Tell me please, how can I rename [email protected] (for example) to [email protected]?

I want to change UID and email address in LDAP and UID in Messaging Server. It's can be done by:
1. I change UID and email address in LDAP by administration console.
2. mboxutil -r oldmaibox newmailbox
it's working fine.
But can I do step 1 by command prompt?
root@sun/opt/SUNWmsgsr/sbin> /opt/SUNWcomm/bin/commadmin user modify -D admin -w password -l user2222 -A uid:user22
FAIL
com.iplanet.am.sdk.AMException: Unable to set attribute(s)
Is it possible to change UID by this way or I have to create new user with new UID first and delete old user after?

When i send a mail to the user of messaging server, it returns saying unknown user.

This could be symptomatic of the iMS 5.1 server not yet having done a full synch to its alias database of the LDAP server. This is done every 24 hours (default) at 2 or 3 am. You can synch manually by running the "imsimta dirsync -F" command.

Problems With Adding Users to Messaging Server

I am having trouble installing SUN ONE Messaging Server 6.0
It is a new install of Solaris 9 on x86. I went through the Solaris Install and made sure that I did not install Apache or Sendmail, along with the older versions of the Messaging and Web server. When I gog to the Sun Java Enterprise System install, I selected Everything (I have tried part installs, but last time i picked Everything). During the setup I used all default settings.
Once it was installed I ran the comm_dssetup.pl script, but was only able to use "schema 1", it would give me errors like:

I then ran configutil to change the http port of the SunONE Messenger Express to be port 85.
If I use the Sun ONE Console, I can start / stop the Messaging services, view the logs, brows the directory server.
If I add a user, the user I add cannot access any of the services. In fact the only user that I can use is the "admin" user.
Can someone please help me figure out what I am doing wrong, and how to add users?
I am working on a test box for now, so if anyone wants config files or more information please let me know, as I would very much like to move past this problem.

The Server that I am setting up now is a test server, we are looking at moving to Solaris for the Sun ONE Web server, and it would be nice to use the messaging server as well.
I am surprised at how complex this is, and how little documentation there is about the technical parts.
I will start looking into getting the patches, and "registering" the mail service.
At least I have an idea of what I am looking for now. :)
At this point, because I am using a developer version of Solaris and JES, and doing it on my own time (we are not a very big company) I would like to avoid calling tech support, as I am not sure what the cost would be for that.
When I re-install the OS, which I have done at least once a day for the last 6 or 7 days, I will install the items you have suggested.

Sending mail to all users in Messaging Server 5.2

Hi,
I'm trying to send mail to all the users in my mail server, but haven't been able to do it. I'm using a command called deliver which is found in /opt/iplanet/server5/bin/msg/store/bin . I've tried sending messages to all users but have been successful in sending only to one user. Got any ideas??

If you're familir with ldapmodify, you can locate the user's pab in the directory server, and remove what you find there, but, honestly, I'd talk to the user first.. . .. .
A user can work around removal of such, very easily. Any mail client, and a copy/paste will do it.

Microsoft Exchange Server 2013 - Windows Server 2013 Standard - When logging in user hangs on - "Applying user settings" message

Now for whatever reason it is the XCHG server is not responsive at all when launching ECP from the other computer on the domain. When logging in to the virtual box EXCH server is hosted on it hangs on the "Applying user settings" message for
an about an hour when finally logged in 4 or 5 XCHG services won't start... I don't remember exactly which ones - "...Mailbox Transport..." is one of them.
I read about the similar being an issue with Win 2008 R2 and EXCH server 2010, and followed the advice that I needed to add some entries to the registry - didn't help, disabling IP6 (which by the way makes no sense as XCHG needs one) - still didn't help.
Would you suggest to rebuild virtual server and reinstall EXCH all together as troubleshooting Windows issues may be lengthy?

Thanks folks! I think I have a clue what's going through don't know how fix it yet.
The problem is with DNS unable to resolve my main domain vwc.local. It makes some XCHG services to time out when starting. The error messages in the event log suggest about domain being unavailable
to contact.
When I tried resolving vwc.local with nslookup and ping it pinged THE OLD domain's IP address. When I setup server at home I specified this old ip address but changed it to a new one when I
moved box to the office. In the office everything worked very well - I introduced office's desktops to vwc.local, built a virtual box, introduced it the domain as well. Everything was good up until I started messing with XCHG. Now the domain is not resolvable
even though I made to be pinged to the new address by updating network adapter settings at the main server by selecting some checkboxes. But the vwc.local is still not available at VW where the XCHG is hosted on. When I open Server Manager/AD DS/AD DS
manager it gives me an error message about the DC being unavailable to contact.
How do I fix this domain mess now? Now I have 3 issues to deal with:
1. My remote desktop stopped working due to trial expiration even though I licensed server for 5 RDSCALs. This is a known issue with RDS and AD DS roles hosted on one physical box. Nobody seems
to know the step by step solution to the issue. I just got bunch of recommendations that I already followed. It looks like I need to call Microsoft and have them deal with their buggy software altogether.
2. DNS/domain issues described below. Something very weird. May I try re prepping the AD DS on the main server. I didn't try that may be I will.
3. XCHG not receiving messages from the outside.
:) Let's just focus on DNS/domain for a moment.

Messages Server doesn't allow login of any user

I've tried setting up a messages server on two different networks and have yet to be able to get a running messages server. Everything feels as though it setup correctly, but when I try to connect a user to the server, it continuosly says the password is incorrect. Below are my settings.

I could fix the problem.
stop the jabber server (sudo serveradmin stop jabber)
The entry in part <local> in /Library/Server/Messages/Config/jabberd/sm.xml was like
<id>domain.local</id>
I changed it to the real local domain of the server like
<id>server.domain.lan</id>
started the server and it works now
(sudo serveradmin start jabber)

Yes.
The 2.x server allows the postmaster to login to a user's account.
Try running MoveUser as follows:
MoveUser -u uid -s host -xPostmaster:uid -p password

Notes:
Mail Server 2.x uses a local database and not an LDAP server
for account information. The -l option
specify ldap URL and the associated bindDN password,
therefore, are not valid when moving from
Mail Server 2.x to Messaging Server 3.x.
"Postmaster:" is case sensitive.
The -a and -v options are for Messaging Server 3.x
ProxyAuthUser credentials.
We do NOT allow this login to a 3.x server
(use PROXYAUTH instead).

Additionally
When I type in fasn26p (machine name) the Oracle Application Server Welcome page displays.
I can get to the Enterprise Manager via the link on the page.
On the All Programs menu, under Oracle - OraDb10g_home1 I can access the Datbase Control page and login. The line for Database Instance: Orcl is -

One last thought. I installed this with this on my network at home and I now have it disconnected from the network. So no IP address for the adapter and I wonder if that can cause a problem with Apache?

You cannot and should not expect Exchange 2013 UM function for mailboxes housed in Exchange 2010. And the reverse is true as well. If you want Exchange 2013 UM to function for users, their mailboxes need to be in Exchange 2013. Exchange
2013 UM should be able to redirect calls to an Exchange 2010 UM server if it detected a call was destined for a mailbox being hosted by Exchange 2010, assuming the UM servers/roles/services are within the same UM Dial Plan.

Messaging server user "mailsrv" continously using the netstat command

I can notice a lot of netstat commands for the mailsrv user and parent id tcp_smtp_server.
Is this normal? Any ideas?

We have had this query before, most recently a few years ago.
Messaging Server itself does not directly call netstat, at all. However, it's possible that one or another system call we make could be calling netstat. It's the OS responsibility to return something like that quicklyl. We have had reports of these things occastionally taking a long time. That's not a normal issue.

How to truncate user INBOX in Messaging Server 6.0

User has many messages in inbox (about 5000).
He want's, that mail administrator truncates all messages from inbox. User don't wan't to use pop or imap to delete messages one by one.
How mail administrator can delete all messages from user inbox?

How to find, where user mailbox is on the disk?
Can mail administrator delete messages directly from disk and run 'reconstruct -r', or it can be dangerous to all mail system?

How can local user send message to other user via OSX server in mac maverick

I just install OS X server in mac mavericks and enable services such as message, DNS, VPN, etc. I also create local users and local network users. I add some local users from OSX server to Message app in order to message to server, but I cannot send any message to those user, even Bonjour is available but I cannot use it to send message in local network.

I already try in iPhone to send message to local user in OS X server after accessing to OS X server via IP Address, but I don't know how local user can get that message and I see nothing in message_archives of message data of server. Client users need to use XMPP client app to log in to server with account name like in server , then user can send message to other users in server. Client users can use iphone, pc, or mac.

Delete the browser's Apple Cookies, and clear the browser Cache.
On the Discussions Sign In Page, do not enter any info in the text fields.
Instead, under "Did you forget your password?", click on "Click here for assistance".

Messaging server and external LDAP user store

Is it possible to have an external LDAP application store all user information and then have the messaging server authenticate against it and create a mail profile in it's own LDAP instance, similar to the way portal handles LDAP users? If not, what is the best way to store user information outside of the mail server instance? Create an LDAP instance and extend the schema to support the mail classes and then use replication to push the users into the mail servers directory instance?

Correct, extending the schema on the master directory server and replicating down to the messaging server ldap instance the user info is the way to go.
This way you do not have to maintain two different sets of user data.
