Render Beast

Hi, we are looking for a way to increase our render speeds from Compressor and final cut. We currently have 3 8core intel MacPros running FCS2. We also have a few 1.8 dual G5s sitting around and was wondering if there is a way to utilize these as a render farm or to hijack their processing power using either firewire or ethernet.
I realise that Qmaster can be used for this purpose but our MacPros are located on a larger network and we would like to isolate this so that other network activity does not slow the process down.
Is it also possible to not use Qmaster and create a "Render Beast" by simply networking these G5's to a single Mac Pro?
Thank You.
Barry

One aspect, is you mentioned you are still based on the FC Studio 2 suite. This means you can readily install the 'AppleQmasterNode' package onto PowerPC Macs, and use those as additional service nodes in a cluster, and/or as a cluster controller.
This can also be done with the FC Studio 3 suite. However the installer for the AppleQmasterNode package refuses to install onto PowerPC machines. This is very easy to remedy, as mentioned elsewhere in my posts, should you need it.
Another aspect, is your network connections. If you truly believe that your primary LAN is busy enough that it can adversely affect something like a Qmaster farm, (which is quite feasible), then here are a couple of suggestions:
Your Mac Pros have two Ethernet ports. Use one to connect to the primary LAN, and use the other to connect to a [newly created] isolated LAN. Setup your Qmaster nodes to only publish themselves onto the isolated LAN. Those aging PowerPC Macs can be set up the same, if they have two Eth ports. Otherwise, they can be used only on the isolated LAN.
You can dedicate one or more of the aging PowerPC Macs directly to individual Intel Mac Pros, via Firewire connection. (Use the 800 ports if available!!!) The Qmaster setup in this case, would only allow the processing node services of the dedicated PPC Mac to be used by the attached Intel Mac Pro --- you don't want its service to be seen on the LAN, as then the service traffic would be get onto the LAN, which is what you are trying to avoid!
Note that if the PPC Macs have only one Eth port, and still need to be used for some other purpose, and need access to the primary LAN, and possibly the Internet, this will affect how feasible it is to use these suggestions.
Also note that in any Qmaster configuration, you need to run some A-to-B comparison tests, to figure out when/if you get any benefit [as compared to just processing on the local machine]. Size of the job, type of the job, etc., all come into play as to when benefits are to be seen. This knowledge then becomes part of your "toolset", such that you make decisions to send certain jobs to the cluster, and others local.
Cheers,
-Rick

  • You have $6000 for a system, What do you buy?

    I need to build a render beast for Cinema 4D, After Effects and Premiere projects.  Budget is $6000.
    We are looking at overclocking two Intel Xeon X5690s (4.1Ghz-ish) on a SR-2 board with 64GB ram, Nvidia GTX 580 card.
    Can we do better than this?  Do any of the Sandy Bridge chips do better (are cheaper?)?
    Hopefully Harm can chime in!   What's the best we can do?

    If that's all you have for a budget, I would start out with the warrior system here:
    and overclock it to around 4.4 GHz. Additionally, I would add even more disks for a larger array with one or two hot-spares, and when you add it all up, including fans, BR burner, 4 GB cache on the Areca and a BBM, possibly a switch for dual teamed NIC's to the other systems and maybe a UPS, your budget is depleted. Dual Xeons are way too expensive and will not fit in this budget, unless you cut corners on the disk setup and memory. There is no doubt a dual Xeon system is fantastic, but if you look at the Juggernaut system that leads the pack in the PPBM5 benchmark, that is a $ 20K system.

  • Very slow render on my beast of a machine

    Hello, I have an issue whereby my rendering is very slow. I am using premier elements 12 with a windows 8.1 computer that has an 8-core amd 8350 processor, 8 gbs of ram, and I have an AMD 7970 6gb video card crossfired with an AMD 280x video card. Crossfire probably doesnt even work, but even with just the 280x, it should be faster than this.
    I capture game footage, which is captured in xvid format, which I then import into PE12. I don't add any effects, other than some color tweaking, and some brightness/contrast tweaking. Then I export it in the same specifications it was captured in (1080p 30fps). A 7 minute video takes about 20 minutes to render/export using MP4 codec. If I try to use other codecs, it takes even longer. On my Mac Pro, using other programs like iMovie, this sake video would take like 2 minutes, and it only has a 4-core processor at a much slower clock speed, and only has a 6870 amd video card, which is like 1/4 the power. I feel that either the 8-cores aren't being used, or something else is wrong. No rendering that doesn't involve complicated effects should take longer to render than the footage length is. If the video is 10 minutes long, it should take 1 minute to render if it doesn't have chroma keying or anything heavy like that. How do I fix this?

    Thanks for the tip. Bandicam already works when I choose "motion jpeg", and it works very nicely as far as being able to record in very high quality without disrupting my gaming performance. The issue is that it still takes longet to render a video than the length of the video itself. So a 6 minute clip, for example, will take about 15-20 minutes. This is unacceptable when ther are no major effects going on, such as chromakeying. I should be able to render atleast at speed play (ie, if a video is 2 minutes, it should take no more than 2 minutes), based on performance I get on my lesser Mac with a lesser CPU, lesser video card etc. It may be the rendering settings. I am using the stock "youtube widescreen HD" preset in PE12, and i manually change teh 720p to 1080p (like my footage). What else can I try?
    The only thing I can think of is that PE12 doesnt use 8 cpu cores, or it doesnt use OpenCL. Does it? I cannot find any settings in PE12 for "enable multicore processing" or "enable openCL" etc.

  • File size extremely high for .avi after render PE 9

    I'm very new to PE and have tried to learn quick to redact info (faces etc) in .avi files for a government agency. I was able to open the file (in the trial version) and make the track matte by dragging the original file to the timeline then dragging it again to the video 2 timeline for the top layer, Question 1) is this the same as copy and paste or am I doubling the size already? Anyway, I was able to get the matte and everything done. Now, to Render and save... I choose computer/avi again (I need to keep it the same) and it took 1 hr 45 min to render it, that seemed long to me but maybe not... but mainly the file size was then 100,883 kb! Starting with a 29.7 kb file. This is what my question is about....could this be right? I can't use it if this is what I get. So, here are the particulars as I got G-spot and looked it up, as per serveral suggestions I saw here. I'm trying to understand the CODEC info but I fear I have a ways to go before I can figure out what I did wrong. (This is my test computer, the future work would be done on a newer, better computer).  The videos I would be working with come from various sources and will vary in length but will probably all be a kind of avi.

    Thanks for you response and the information was very helpful. I was able to choose and output that gave me a good file size and I do want DV-AVI (I don't remember what I chose but it worked) but, I don't see an option for DV-AVI - is that a general DV output selection, because there seem to be numerous (AVCHD, NTSC, DV STANDARD) acronyms (I have tried to understand what each is) which do I want?

    For the use of Track Matte Keying, with say a Gaussian Blur, or maybe Moasic Effect, if you have not altered the In & Out Points, then just dragging the Asset to both Video 1 and Video 2 will work fine. If you HAVE adjusted the In & Out Points, you can just click-drag from the Source Monitor, where you set those In & Out Points, and all is good. The Copy/Paste is just another way to do it.
    As you are doing an "overlay," the output File Size will not be affected in any way. You are also limiting the Blur, or Effect on Video 2 to just the area "exposed" by the Track Matte, so the pixel count will not be altered.
    As Steve points out, the output CODEC in the AVI will determine the output File Size. File Size is basically determined by the Timeline's Duration and by the Bit-Rate of the output file. With DV-AVI, that Bit-Rate is pretty well set, and your Timeline determines the Duration. At ~ 13GB/hour, a DV-AVI will be pretty large, but that is the nature of the beast. Also, and as Steve points out, if you are going to do additional editing, and will be Importing that file into a New Project, DV-AVI is about as good, as it gets.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Render farm for DCP creation

    We are starting to get more and more requests to make DCPs for clients and we need to speed up the process. Currently doing a DCP through the Wraptor AME plugin takes around 20 hours for a feature length film. It's a bit faster if we do tiffs through AME and use OpenDCP for the rest but even then it's still taking a while. When we are doing work for festivals etc we are simply running out of time where we need to do dozens of films.
    Is there a way to use render farms to speed up the AME processing? And if so, any advice about setting it up?

    Rather than a farm, if you can find out from Adobe or the Plug-in maker how well the code threads you might consider a single computer with multiple CPU's llike the Xeon E7 v2 chips that can have up to 15 cores and up to 8 sockets.  Here is Harm's picture on his Tweakers Page.  To run a beast like this you have to us Windows Server OS which not officially supported by Adobe but apparently should work.  Of course the pricing is astonomical.each CPU chip (15 Cores 8-way) is $6841.
    I would suggest contacting Eric ADK and see if they can build you a Super Workstaion for your processing.  If it can be done they are the one's to do it

  • Ram Preview won't start when Render multiple frames simultaneously enabled

    Hello everyone,
    I have an issue with rendering AE CC , with my new PC computer in Windows 8.1 pro 64 bit
    As the title says , my issue is Ram Preview won't start when Render multiple frames simultaneously enabled. Actually it starts after 8 -30 seconds depending of project complexity and the rendering is slower and skipping frames !
    12 cores with 2 GB ram each.
    When I disable the option of multiple frames simultaneously render starts ok.
    but it's really very sad that I can't use this beast of CPU in full potential. its an new intel i7 5930K , 32 Ram DDR4 2.4 Ghz
    Any advice and options would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Vonzar.

    Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bit

    GPU : nVidia GeForce GTX 970 4GB DDR5 PCI-E
    RAM : 32GB DDR4 Non ECC CL16 2400MHz Crucial Ballistix Sport
    Mother board : Asrock x99 extreme 6

    If you have any render or preview problems just turn off MP because, first, it only works with certain specific effects and codecs, and 2, it causes more problems that it solves most of the time. I only turn on MP rendering when I know for sure that it will speed up my workflow.
    You should have a multiple of 4 GB assigned to AE and Other apps and an even number of cores. If you are using MP rendering make sure that the number of actual cores used makes sense and that there are an even number of cores assigned to other applications. Most important of all, don't spend hours trying to tweak MP rendering to save a few seconds in a render. Follow these general guidelines and then run a short test to see if it works. If you project involves any temporal effects at all turn it off.
    Here is an example of the MP settings for a 4 year old Mac Mini that actually work for some projects, but most of the time it is turned off.
    I should say that I can allocate 3 GB of ram per background CPU and still see 2 as the actual CPU's that will be used but this little Mac Mini works better with 2 selected. Setting the RAM allocation to 4 GB drops Actual CPU's to 0
    BTW, I use the mac mini to record most of my tutorials because I figure that if I do a tutorial that will run OK on a Mac Mini, then anyone with an adequate system should be able to follow along without any problems.

  • CS5 on mac 10.6.4 slows system to a crawl, render times really long

    We recently upgraded our towers to 10.6.4 and all productivity has slowed to a snails pace using After Effects. On 10.5 the speed was almost TOO fast on our renders...it was awesome. Now I'm looking to get that speed back.
    I have a few very simple comps. 1920 x 1080, 23.98fps, 5 layers (4 QT renders from final cut XDCAM and Animation codec, 1 adjustment layer with levels and hue/saturation for color correction). Approx 40 seconds long each.
    I've followed the Adobe advice of turning the multiprocessing on and using the following settings from here http://forums.adobe.com/thread/543440
    leave 4gb for other apps, set minimum 3gb per processor = 33min render
    setting it back to what WAS screaming fast on 10.5:
    leave 3gb for other apps, set minimum 0.75gb per processor = 19min render
    turning multiprocessing off = 5min render
    same project on 10.5 system with multiprocessing turned ON with the above mentioned settings = 2min render
    what is going on here? is there a compatibility problem with CS5/10.6 and Animation codec files? that seems to be the bulk of the slowdown, but still over twice as slow?
    additionally, when AE is rendering the rest of the system becomes unusable...every action, even dragging a finder window around, results in beachballs and a 30 - 40 second lag in response. this happens with or without multiprocessing.
    I just want to get back to work...any ideas on how i can configure this beast to get back to my former speeds?
    8 core mac Pro
    OS 10.6.4
    12gb RAM
    many thanks in advance. i'm willing to send beer for a winning fix.

    Good to know, thanks for the update. 10.6.x does manage memory differently, but our testing for performance has shown a slight improvement in the newer OS. So I am guessing that the OS update is not the issue. I just ran another test on a Mac with your configuration and saw a 4% improvement on 10.6.4 over 10.5.8.
    It's uncertain what state the system memory was in when you started your tests. That's why I asked for a restart of the computer. The times reported seemed like there was a possibility that the OS was swapping. XDCAM footage places a high demand on system resources.  But it's hard to say without being there.
    What I was seeing with the initial post was that the two extremes of allocation per background cpu were tried, but not the middle ground. To better see this, launch the Activity Monitor utility or look at the last line of the MP preference. With the 4GB reserved and the 3GB/ bkgnd cpu setting you weren't getting any extra processes spawned for multiprocessing. You can see this in the preferences multiprocessing section as "Actual CPUs that will be used = 0". Then, by setting the pref to .75GB/bkgnd the app launched 8 bkgnd processes, but for the task at hand, I am guessing that they were starved for memory and sometimes failed to render. This was faster than the first test, but still slow. By setting the pref to 1.5GB/bkgnd cpu you were now getting 4 new processes spawned for multiprocessing. The background processes had enough memory to succeed so that made it render faster still.
    Now, try setting it to 1GB/bkgnd cpu. That will launch 6 processes which should render faster as long as that is enough memory for the task. If  the Memory pref for Reserve RAM for other apps is set back to 3GB, it will allow the spawning of 7 bkgnd processes. If that is a successful balance for this project then it will be the fastest render time. But, our testing shows it will be at the risk of starving the OS for memory, thus the more conservative 4GB recommendation for a 12GB system.
    It's a fine line and why we are recommending that one give up a little speed by reserving more memory for other apps. True, there will be less processes spawned for multiprocessing, but there will also be less chance for the OS to start swapping to disk which greatly slows down performance for all tasks. If that compromise is not acceptible, then the alternative is to buy more ram so that all 8 processes can adequately receive enough memory for the job, and yet still maintain adequate reserves for the OS and other apps.

  • FCP MINI MAC RENDER FARM HELP/ADVICE

    A little help from someone who may know - have been getting advice from a myraid of people here in L.A. - even people in the Apple store - and living here in L.A. it seems many answer without really knowing - and - I have searched a bit here on the forums - as well as the web - and am getting very conflicting reports...
    We are looking to increase renter times while editing in FCP HD - using plugins such as twixter and such - and - the render times are killing us - even cutting the time from 2 hours down to 1 and half hours would help - we are under a time crunch as our movie is due finished by the 15th of Jan - and - we have to use these effects - so - anyway - we were told that a cheap way of doing this was to buy some mini macs and farm them into the G5 and it would help.
    Yet - I see where Patrick has posted a time ago that this would not work as the FCP will not allow.
    Before we drop 2 grand on the mini's - anyone have any info that would help guide us.
    The people at the Apple store seem to feel it would be no problem at all... but we are nervous.
    Thank you for any help or links that could help us - and - or - guide us in how to set this up.
    Thank you - Ward.
    Dual 2.7 ghz Power PC G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   8 GB DDR SDRAM

    Yeah, that workflow isn't so great if you have to figure a cut out in a VFX app, then throw it back into your editing system, only to discover it doesn't really work. Backwards and forwards between apps...ugh. Editing is about the discovery process, and stepping out to other apps takes you away, not only from your dailies, but from the context. If you can pull this off in FCP, you'll be the better for it.
    One question - are you also applying effects other than just Twixtor to these clips? If so, once you have them set as you like them, turn them off until you get the Twixtor effect right - then turn 'em back on again for a final render.
    Another question - what are your media and render settings? What rez are we talking about here? Have you set Render rez to Precision YUV?
    Yes, the mini will help, there's no denying, but it is a slower system, with a slower system drive, a slower memory bus, and you're gonna have to whack some more RAM in there - at least a Gig anyway. That's $599+$122. Plus the FCP licence (uhhhh....$1299) and a Twixtor render licence ($65 or $119 depending on Regular or Pro version). So it's over two grand already, and you don't have a monitor as well as that it's really not going to be an amazing performer. If you're gonna spend money, get some better hardware - maybe an iMac?
    I think you should divide and conquer - move your non-FX 'story' editorial only onto the slowest system, and keep cutting - presumably you still have those battles too, as you're a month out on the movie. Assign someone else to the FX work on the G5. Spend all day setting up sequences, doing the best you can to guess that it's right - but without rendering. Render like crazed weasels overnight. Check the renders and make your best estimates at fixes fix in the morning - but do not render again. Put those sequences aside until later, and move on to new sequences, set the FX up, and again at night leave the beasts to render. Within a day or two you'll start honing in on the FX, then start locking them one by one. Pass back fully rendered clips to the story editing system, and bingo.
    One final thought - but it's total shot in the dark. I'm guessing that if you had extremely low rez material, the effect would render even faster. Perhaps if you re-encoded some of your relevant dailes but at a MUCH lower rez, then worked out the Twixtor effect on that material, it would render faster? I don't know the answer as I've never done this on FCP, but on an Inferno or other VFX app, this is a very common way to massively speed up your workflow. When you have the effect right, you just copy the filter and apply it to the full-rez sequence. Might be worth testing to see if that helps?

  • Any way to speed up render of Livetype files?

    We use some Live type overlays for our show... and we have a very short amount of time to do the actual show. (30 minute show twice a day...with about 2 hours of work time to edit the whole thing and I'm the only one doing it).... so any increase in speed is acceptable (as long as it doesn't increase export to quicktime file time)...
    The overlays take a really long time it seems to render. like a 30 second tease with a livetype overlay takes around 12-15 minutes depending... Aside from buying more ram or a faster mac (not an option) what can I do to render this faster? With such a limited time to edit its really annoying waiting so long for such a short amount of timeline to render.
    Thanks in advance.
    Oh and after I edit I still have to export the timeline to a single quicktime file to play it out without it dropping frames. Thats fine its just another 20-45 minutes that I have to squeeze into my day. 20 minutes with the whole timeline rendered and ready to go, 45 or longer (its hard to tell cause it says 3-4 hours for most of the timeline and doesn't give me an accurate time until the very end) if I don't have any of the livetype stuff rendered.

    Shut down all other programs and processes while
    rendering in FCP.
    Always do... even make sure that things like Safari and quicktime close out completely.
    Keep LT elements as simple as possible, no heavy
    effects, especially drop shadows and opacity
    settings.
    Not sure but perhaps Title 3D elements might render
    faster.
    Thats a different beast as I have to go with the graphics my boss has approved and likes... even if I'm not crazy about them.
    Are you working with DV. If so you should be able to
    print the timeline to tape or play it out without
    dropping frames.
    Well some are mpeg2's converted to dv (because they don't have audio if I try and import them straight in as mpeg2. But some is captured from Betacam SP Decks and some is captured from our studio (both of those being in uncompressed 8bit)
    Make sure that your drives are not going to sleep at
    any time.
    Make sure you have a minimum of 10% free space on you
    capture drives.
    Done and done...although I do notice that even if sleep is turned off on the drives they still take some time to "wake up" when I come back to the computer after a while. Sleep isn't turned on but sometimes I have to wait about 10 seconds or so for the drives to respond to anything...but only if I haven't used that drive in a while. Maybe there's a setting I'm missing? Mac isn't my primary machine experience so I only really use one at work.
    Might try running Apple Disk Utilities and a program
    like Disk Warrior on your drives to help keep them
    running efficiently.
    Thanks.... I'll have to see about giving those a shot. Its not gonna destroy any archive files we have is it? Being a news show we have to keep a pretty healthy supply of archival footage.

  • Vector graphics: fuzzy in preview, sharp in final render?

    hi all
    I've been banging my head for a while on my fuzzy vector graphics issue ---vectors imported into AE from Illustrator, that include text, text outlines, clipping masks, etc. I had checked and double-checked my "continuously rasterize", my "collapse transformations", even gone into adjust anti-aliasing to best quality: no help
    well, I had a breakthrough today:  when I do a final render, my fuzzy vector graphics become crystal clear.  Huh?  well, Great!  But now my question is, am I stuck editing fuzzy vectors?  That  seems like an odd limitation.
    a bit more info on what I'm doing:  I'm animating between bits of text that are varying  sizes, some text is solid, some outlines, some with fills created with clipping masks--and I did do a little experimenting with taking out the masks, etc, because I've been told that some Illustrator effects won't come through properly, and cause an immediate rasterization in AE--but that didn't seem to do much to my preview quality. I've set up my illustrator file with the film/video preset, so I have 2 artboards--and I'm letting the biggest text spill out onto that larger arboard.  I'm saving as a CS5, PDF compatible, illustrator file, and bringing into AE as a composition w/ "retain layer sizes"
    any thoughts? is this just the nature of the beast? maybe I'm setting up my illustrator file improperly?
    thanks,
    LML

    You might be seeing artifacting due to Pixel Aspect Ratio Correction if you're using non-square PAR in your comp(s). In your preferences, check to see if you have the Zoom Quality setting designated to "More Accurate".
    If not, then as you noted, you probably have some effect enabled in Illustrator on one or many of your layers/objects that is causing the aliasing.

  • How can I render an active link (yrl) within a UIX/XML page

    How can I render an active link (url) within a UIX/XML page.
    How can I get <jbo:ShowValue> to work in UIX/XML, or is there another way?
    Bill G...

    It may seem strange, but the <contents> of <rawText> aren't actually
    raw - it's only the "text" attribute that's raw. (It seems strange because
    it is. Ah well.) This is different from UIX JSP.
    So, try something like the following:
    <bc4j:attrScope name="Notes">
    <contents>
    <rawText text="&lt;a href=&quot;"/>
    <rawText>
    <boundAttribute name="text">
    <bc4j:attrProperty name="value"/>
    </boundAttribute>
    </rawText text="&quot;&gt;"/>
    Some text in the link.
    <rawText text="&lt;/a&gt;"/>
    </contents>
    <bc4j:attrScope>
    Thankfully, this will be much simpler in 9.0.3, when the following
    will work:
    <link text="Whatever you want">
    <boundAttribute name="destination">
    <bc4j:attrValue name="Notes"/>
    </boundAttribute>
    </link>

  • Unable to render video in PSCS4 - Error Messages- QT DLL Issue??

    I started this thread in the Adobe Forums for PhotshopCS4, but the consensus there was that my issue is a QuickTime issue, perhaps with a DLL and iTunes. I have included a few of those suggestions at the end of the post. I have tried uninstalling QT Pro, cleaning and reinstalling with no improvement. I have not removed iTunes and reinstalled.
    `````````````````
    I am unable to render video it seems in Photoshop CS4 Extended. Despite having the latest QuickTime Pro installed and all updates to Vista 32 bit and to CS4 Design Premium, I get the following error message:
    "The procedure entry point CFCreateApplicationRepositoryPath could not be located in the data link library CoreFoundation.dll"
    This happens when, for example, I load 100 medium resolution JPEGs as an image sequence and choose File >Export > Render Video.
    If I OK through the error a couple of times I get a screen with output options, but usually some are greyed out. When I CAN put in QuickTime settings and choose export I get the following error:
    "Could not complete the Render Video Command because of a program error."
    When I have opened a support case with Adobe it has regularly been closed after being told to get QuickTime 7.2 or higher. GGGrrrr. I have QT 7.6.5 Pro installed.
    Was your QT properly installed with correct privileges? As Mr. Cox said, it seems there is an issue with your QT install. also, in the QT system control panle, enable the Allow Encoding using Legacy CoDecs option. this often fixes the weirdest issues (as it also catches a number of other legacy calls to QT components)...
    Mylenium
    Thanks guys- the QT install SEEMS fine....? I will try allowing legacy CODECs and if that doesnt ehlp I will totally uninstall QT Pro, clean the registry, reboot and install QT from the top. Will let you know how I get on with this.
    Phil
    I have enabled using legacy CODECs and restarted, same error message.
    I have completely uninstalled QuickTime(Pro), run CCleaner to clear files and the registry...I have then rebooted, reinstalled Quicktime(Pro) 7.6.5, rebooted. I get the very same error message at that time.
    Any further suggestions appreciated.
    All the google searches point directly at Apple like Chris pointed out. I noticed that there were a lot of Apple product hits but the most standing out was itunes. Did you happen to install itunes software (or some other Apple product) and maybe itunes over-wrote the .DLL? Other then that thought I don't have any other input.
    I agree this is an issue with an Apple DLL. The error you're getting suggests that the wrong version of the DLL is being used. It means that the thing that is rendering the video is expecting the CoreFoundation DLL to have a particular function called CFCreateRepositoryPath but it's not there.
    What could be happening is that there are multiple instances of this DLL on the computer and the PATH is leading to the wrong one.
    You might search your entire hard-drive and find where the CoreFoundation DLL exists and what version each is. If there is only one version, then perhaps your version of QuickTime is actually too new. Photoshop 11.0.1 came out a long time ago, and the version of QuickTime referred to in the support-ticket-closure response is also pretty old, so maybe the newest QuickTime is using a newer version of the DLL that Photoshop knows how to deal with.
    Searching my system for CoreFoundation. there is one smaller version of the DLL in Apple Application Support dated in November and then several larger ones in directories dealing with mobile phones like the iPhone, which I don't have one of, dated a few months earlier.
    I'm guessing the iPhone stuff came with iTunes, which I do have installed, though I don't really use it.
    Thanks for looking, really hoping for some help here.
    "The procedure entry point CFCreateApplicationRepositoryPath could not be located in the data link library CoreFoundation.dll"
    Thanks for all the detailed information, pw. It's very helpful.
    Okay, the most recent versions of QuickTime require a fully functional Apple Application Support in order to run properly. You're getting a problem with one of the Apple Application Support dlls. So the best thing to do first would be to uninstall both Apple Application Support and QuickTime, and then reinstalling QuickTime (which should reinstall a fresh version of Apple Application Support).
    There's 7/Vista 32-bit instructions for doing that in the following post:
  • Media Encoder CC  won't render Magic Bullet Denoiser II
    Hello there,
    i've got the following Problem: I am having Premiere CC and used the Red Giant Plug-In Denoiser II on my last project, when i import this project to the Media Encoder and select Quicktime for output, the Media Encoder won't render the clip with this Plug-In. i always get the original files out, without the denoiser. Original footage from in premiere is 2,5k CinemaDNG RAW from the Black Magic Cinema Camera.
    thx
    I feel like there was a recent update to the RG plugins (inside of the last 30 or so days.) Are they up to date?
  • Photo Gallery thumbnails in business catalyst render in different sizes in different browsers
    Photo Gallery thumbnails in business catalyst render in different sizes in safari and chrome but are fine in firefox. What is the issue with Safari? I have tried the different algorithm options such as fill_proportional etc and firefox is the only browser that displays correctly. I thought safari was the most standards compatible browser - what's the problem here?
    Hi,
    If you have seperate XML file but with the same basic structure then you can change the XML a Spry dataset refers to and regenerate the spry region without reloading the full page.
    So on my photo gallery page I can change the album the photos are shown from via the seturl sprydata function as below.  dsPhotos being my Spry dataset that points to the relevant XML dataset with my image references and captions etc.  My XML is actually dynamically generated from Picasa RSS feeds (and RSS feeds are XML) but the principle will be the same with your static XML.
    First I add an event listener for when someone clicks on an album (the li tag within my div with the id "albums" holds a photo and title for each album.)
    function Albums()
    var myalbums = Spry.$$("#albums li", "TabbedPanels1")
    var rows = dsAlbums.getData();
    var setListener = function( element, value )
      Spry.Utils.addEventListener( element, "click", function(){ showAlbum( value ); },false );
    for( var i = 0, length = myalbums.length; i < length; i++ )
      setListener( myalbums[i], i );
    Then this is the code which changes the photo album to be shown. (when the user clicks the relevant album)
    function showAlbum(i)
    pauseShow();
    pImage = 'No';
    var rows = dsAlbums.getData();
    var albumid = rows[i]["albumid"];
    var url = "xml/PicasaAphotoFeed.asp?albumid=" + albumid;
    dsPhotos.setURL(url);
    dsPhotos.loadData();
    var rowcount = dsAlbums.getRowCount() - 1;
    var nextalbum;
    var navnext;
    var n;
    The page is here www.thehmc.co.uk/photo5.html is you want to see it in context.
    In your case showAlbum would switch between Frank.xml or Wolfie.xml depending on how you decide to name your xml datasets.
    Regards
    Phil
  • Reporting Services Webpart - web part does not auto render consistantly
    We are on SharePoint 2010 (integrated with Reporting Services)- on several sites we have added the Reporting Services Web Part and with a saved parameter.  The behavior of this web part is not consistent.  There are times when I open up a site
    and the web part will auto render the report.  5 minutes later I can go into the same site, and the web part does not auto render the report.  I have to do edit page, or close and re-open the web site.  Has anyone experienced this type of behavior.
    I've looked for assistance with this issue on-line cannot find anything that specifically addresses this issue.
    Hi Karen,
    If the parameters have default values in the report, then the report can be rendered automatically.
    For this issue, I recommend to verify the things below:
    Does this issue occur when you open the page with the web part in a new tab in the browser or go back to the previous opened tab?
    Does this issue occur in the server side or client side?
    Please add the site to trusted sites in Internet Explorer to see how it works.
    Please change another browser to see how it works.
    For narrowing down the issue scope, please test with another report and compare the results.
    Thanks,
    Victoria
