Render files unlinking – amongst other things

I have been a FCP user since v1. My experience with Final Cut Studio 2 is very unsatisfactory. FCP is buggy. I am currently having the same issue as many others of rendered files unlinking and requiring re-rendering. Has anybody discovered a real solution to this issue? It this issue known to Apple? Are they working on it?
Since taking delivery on Studio 2 (that they did such a wonderful sales job at NAB) it has been nothing but trouble. Soundtrack Pro 2 is a disaster and virtually unusable except for specific small task. Using it as a post sound solution – for get it.
Where are the updates? Where are the fixes? Unfortunately Apple seems to have abandoned it pro apps for cellphones for teenage girls.
Seriously, I am strongly considering AVID for future project.

There seems to be a rash of Vista messing with music folder permissions.
Make sure your Windows account is set for full control of the entire iTunes folder and subfolders, or wherever you are storing the music files.
WIthout full permission you can't add artwork, change track info, and sometimes the song won't go into the iTunes library exactly as you've described.

I had a drive failure and lost the iWeb file along with other things.
I did manage to save a lot of user file documents but I don't see or
recognize the iWeb site file. It was on a 15" G4 Titanium pb.
I'm trying to find a way, using version 2.0.4 of iWeb on a different
pb to recover the file into the iWeb app or a way to download the site into iWeb.
There are 6 pages of images and text, and it
would be a task for me to recreate the whole thing again. I did
download the site but I don't know how or if I can get iWeb to see it and open it.
Does anyone have any knowledge about this? The link to my site:

Unfortunately iWeb cannot read or import previously published files, only generate them.  You'll have to recreate your site from scratch.
However, Chapter 2.3 on the iWeb FAQ.org site has tips on using some of the existing files, image, audio, video, etc., from the published site in the recreation of the site.

  • LUMIA needs an FM Transmitter amongst other things

I'm quite excited about the new Lumia, but alas I won't be giving up my N8 until Nokia release a Lumia phone with an FM Transmitter.
It allows me to play music in any car I go in and any radio that I happen to be near without any cables or addon gadgets.
One thing is for sure, I will always use Nokia, I can't stand apple products. Too restricted and too controlled.

Gonna gave to disagree on this one. FM is a dying technology, Bluetooth A2DP does the job better.
I Agree with this, I had the N900 and N97 both with FM transmitters
It was very hard to find a Frequency that was empty. even some of those had bleedover from adjacent stations
And even after I'd found a suitable Frequency, Driving up the road changed that as I started picking up local radio stations again. The FM Broadcast band is getting too crowded to make this a useful option

  • Extremely Slow Response Time Amongst other things

I've had my Powerbook G4 for almost 4 years now, and I have just recently starting having problems with it. It takes forever to connect to the internet and most of the time it takes about a minute for the mouse to catch up to what my finger is doing, and then to actually open a program such as Word or iTunes, which are commonly used programs for me, it will take 2-5 minutes. As well as it will stop typing randomly, for instance it just did it now typing this paragraph, and then it'll catch up about a minute later. Is this normal or is there anything I can do to fix this? I've tried rebooting it, and doing software updates but nothing has fixed it or made it better yet. Please help!

    Welcome to the Apple discussions.
If you haven't already, you might want to read this performance FAQ: http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/performance.html . This will discuss, for example, the need to keep a minimum of your hard drive free for systems usage, sometimes expressed as 10% to 15% of the hard drive capacity.
Some have found using a utility like OnyX, available at http://www.titanium.free.fr/pgs2/english/download.html can help restore performance to a sluggish system. Do the tasks on the maintenance and cleaning tab, which may require reboot(s). Of course, before using any disk maintenance program it's good practice to have a current backup of the internal hard drive.
Have you checked recently that you have the memory you expect to have, i.e. you should have 2GB and you confirm the system agrees? Click the blue apple and about this mac to see the amount of memory the system recognizes.

  • HT4528 my Iphone 4s has recently been shutting down functions, not just apps, but all functions after a few seconds. Also, the phone gets extremely warm when this happens and the battery dies quicker. I have reset it, amongst other things, what can it be?

I dont understand what could be ther problem? I have enough space on the phone as well.. this is odd

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each step in order until the issue is resolved.
If none of the steps resolve the issue, a hardware problem exists.  Take it to Apple for evaluation.

  • Is it OKAY to delte render files once a project completed?

I am feeling the FCP 6th sense that I should NOT delete my render files even once I've completed a project. If I want to revisit that project and I've deleted my render files from the render files folder on my hard drive, what happens? They are taking up a lot of space (167GB!) and it's slowing down my system.
    thanks for any advice!
    jenna

Sure, you can delete the render files. The worst thing that will happen is that if you later want to go back and work on that project, you will need to re-render everything. Personally, I tend to archive my rendered files as well as my captured files off of my main system. That way, if I do need to go back to a project, getting ready to work doesn't take nearly as long.

  • IDVD Render Files (are there any that can be deleted?)

    Hi all
Just to make certain, whether or not iDVD is still working from an older iDVD rendered file, is there somewhere to delete these files? Render files?
    (like FCE stores them)
    Perhaps not
In this particular case, I deleted an old movie file, but created a new one with the same name. I just wanted to make sure because I still see the same glitch from a particular frame in the movie.
(I'm sure it's the source media)
I'm dragging QT movie files directly into iDVD
    (have not had any problems)
    Thanx

No information here - guess there are no iDVD render files
    Thanx

  • Final cut express 4.  Should render files be saved or deleted?

Which files can safely be deleted from the drive when the edit is finished?

You can safely delete all of the render files, cache files & waveform files - they can always be re-created as long as you have your FCE project file and the associated source media files that you used in your project.
If you archive a project all you need to keep is your FCE project file and the associated source media files.  There is no reason to keep any render, cache or waveform files as they will only take up disk space and will no longer be usable if/when you reopen the original project.   (Because typically in archiving you are copying the files to another hard drive and doing so breaks the relationship between the FCE project file and the render files.  And although there is a 'reconnect media' function in FCE in my experience it does not work well if at all with render files.)

  • Missing render file

Hi, I'm trying to clean up some audio in soundtrack, however when I save to file and go back to FCP it says my media is offline and missing the render file. before I saved in soundtrack I rendered to action. when I search my cpu for this missing file it is no where to be found.
    any thoughts....
    cheers -jonathan

Work flow is very important and this is a very good example of why.
    What I do is this:
    1. Export out of FCP, my reference movie.
    2. Encode the movie, using Compressor, as an Mpeg2 asset as well as Encode the audio asset, to AC3, (using the Dolby audio option of Compressor 2 or A.Pack if you don't have Compressor 2.)
    3. Import the Mpeg2 and AC3 assets, into DVD SP.
What this does is create a set of assets that are self contained, that do not rely on any other files to function and DVD SP will never give you problems again, (can't find render files) do to the fact that these new assets, are self contained.
One of the benifits of encoding your asset prior to bring them into DVD SP, is that the build goes alot faster as well, (being that there already encoded.)
Reference Movies can be a real time saver, if used properly. Never import them directly into DVD SP, (due to there dependence on render files.)

  • I had a windows laptop, and I save files like photos, documents, videos and other things on an external hard drive, and now I want to move those files to the Mac book Pro, and then move those files again to another external hard drive 1T. My question is:

I had a windows laptop, and I save files like photos, documents, videos and other things on an external hard drive, and now I want tomove those files to the Mac book Pro, and then move those files again toanother external hard drive 1T. My question is: Is it possible? Doing this willnot affect the files that I had in windows? No information is lost? or how cani do it?

Connect the external drive to your Mac and drag the files from it to your Mac's internal drive. Then dismount and disconnect the external drive, connect the 1TB external drive, and drag the files from the internal drive onto the external. Nothing will have been deleted from any of the drives up to this point; the files will only have been copied. Verify that the files are readable. There's no reason they shouldn't be; this is just a precaution.
Now if you wish to delete the files from any of the drives, drag them to the Trash, and Empty the Trash while the drive from which they came is still connected. If you disconnect the drive before emptying the Trash, the files you were trying to remove from it won't be deleted. They'll remain in the Trash and continue to take up space on the drive.
Note that if your external drives are in NTFS format, you won't be able to write anything to them or delete anything from them, though you will be able to read and copy the files they contain. The NTFS disk format is read-only to the Mac OS, unless you have a third-party NTFS driver installed. To make your drives cross-platform readable and writable, you must reformat them in the FAT32 or ExFAT format.

  • Preventing render files  - or other unwanted files - from being analyzed

Even THOUGH the the manual says that render files don't get analysed when checking in a Final Cut Project we are having an issue where the render files are being added to the catalogue during the daily scan of the SAN.
As a result we are getting proxy files from these render files. I have tried to do an exclude wild card filter in the 'response' admin settings with the format -FIN-*. where I am using the asterisks to represent the variable bits of the file name. However it doesn't seem to be working. Any ideas?

    Hi Matt
I have * in the include filter, which I believe was the default when it was installed. My understanding is that will allow everything to be scanned. I presumed then that FCServer would then subsequently have a look at the Exclude option and apply those filters. Is that the order? If it the other way around then I can see why my excludes are not working.

  • Doing Other Things While iDVD is Rending

    Hi,
Is it true that "while iDVD is processing the munu, slideshow, and films, do not do other things on your iMac."
The reason is that if you do other things while iDVD is processing, the film will not be smooth.
    Thanks.

    Hi JhnD
Welcome to apple discussions. For the most part this is not true. I work daily on other apps while iDvd is burning to disc or encoding my dvd without ill affects. Nevertheless it is recommended not to run multiple apps with slower clock speeds /CPU while burning a dvd to avoid possible errors or even a crash due to CPU overload. Just use reasonable caution and monitor all activity on the activity monitor within your utilities folder. If you notice a spike in usage of the CPU above 90% then it may be time to start quitting other apps other than iDvd and allow it to finish encoding on its own without any interruptions.
Or a better suggestion .... allow iDvd to do it's thing overnight (if it happens to be a longer project).

  • What are the "rules" regarding render files?

OK...one PO-ed user here, wondering *** is going on...
I've always said that FCP is about as weak as an early version of Media 100 when it comes to render files.  You can search my posts (not that you'd want to...), and find that I've been complaining about every system I regularly work on losing render files like a 6 year old loses mittens.
However, it's hit the fan, thus this post.  I work on a half-hour tv show.  Let me mention that we shoot and edit in XDCAM EX 1080i60; this is notable as yes, I know, rendering in long-GOP codecs is slow.  Oh, I know it...
Anyway, this past Tuesday I dilligently rendered my composite sequence, and the broadcast output sequence, and then exported the broadcast sequence for feed.  All was well.
Today, I opened up the project so I could make final archives and web exports of the individual segments...and guess what?  Gee, Wally, the entire sequence was, you guessed it, unrendered.  Where did those pesky render files go?  Well, I figured I'd try something I never try, and that was to reconnect them.  Hopeless, right?
As it turns out, yes, hopeless...because when I navigated to the Render Files folder, there was a grand total of 11 render files for this particular project.  Now, I don't change my System Settings at all...I like where things go, I have my media volumes set up, everything should be hunky-dory, no?
So to get to the heart of the matter...what process is tossing render files?  Why are they disappearing from my hard drive?
I have folders from projects from 2 months ago that have some render files in them, but I don't have the render files my system (supposedly) created on Tuesday!
    Anyone got any ideas?

Hey, Shane, as soon as I saw you posted I began to get deja vu all over again, as we had a discussion about losing render files which, yes, caused me to stop nesting...for the most part.  So yes, here we again have evidence that the "nesting behavior" coding team took off early the day they were supposed to be bug-fixing...but i digress.
I nest only when necessary...generally, we edit "packages" (your acts) and then I get em, do whatever audio and color correction time allows, and copy and past them into my complete program sequence.
However, when all is well, good, revised and approved, I "edit" that complete 22:10 sequence into my "BS" sequence (you might guess, Broadcast Safe), which has the bars n tone requested by the broadcast mothership, and where I apply a light Broadcast Safe filter and a touch of compression to the audio.  So I guess my only question here it...are you suggesting that I just splat-A my edited sequence and apply the filters to the gazillion-odd clips individually?

  • Backing up files on external hard drive... do I need to keep render files?

Hi, I back up all of my video work and files onto DVDs and to a Lacie external hard drive. I am filling that up quickly and would like to know if I need to keep copies of the render files, which are quite large. Will it save me that much time later? Or are they simply taking up much needed space?
    thanks in advance
    Rob Grossman

    Welcome to the forum!
Render files can always be regenerated if needed. I dump them before backups.
If you keep your original footage on tape, the only stuff you need to back up is the FCP project file, any still images, AE files, etc. This takes VERY little space in the scheme of things.
The final quicktime video file (if that is what was created) can also be sent back to tape.
    Good luck.

  • How do I get FInal Cut Pro to save the render files?

Final cut used to work really great, but lately it has stopped saving any render files, so ever time I try to edit something new it starts re-rendering all of my other files and slows it down to the point of crashing a lot. Is ther any way to fix this or get it to NOT render things that I am currently not editing?

Can you see the render files in your project folders? FCP X does not stop rendering by its own choice, check your preferences, as Tom suggested, and restart FCPX to see your settings taking effect.
