Render Format  options

Render Format in FCP X project settings doesn't have a h264 option, only various ProRes. In this case I don't see a point of "native AVCHD" editing. Exporting with "current settings" gives you video with ProRes which requires transcoding to H264 and takes a very long time.

Thank you for your answers. That is true, after doing some more testing speed of export doesn't seem too bad. My first test export to H.264 seemed quite slow on my MacBook Pro, about 6 hours for 2 hour long project. That might have been for other reasons, since other tests with short videos gave me much better results - about 12min for 8min project. More important to me was a questions whether it is possible to avoid intermediate codecs in FCP X "native" editing and it looks like it is not possible. Yes, you don't have to created ProRes files during import, but during edit you still create ProRes file which has to be recompressed during export if you want your resulting file to have the same codec as source file, e.g. H.264. I was hoping that export speed in this case would be even faster. I was aware about the typical workflow where you create a ProRes file in FCP and then use Compressor to create whatever format you want. This is nothing new and that's what most people did in FCP 7.

  • Setting format and format options in Output module settings for render queue item

    Hello,
I am unable to set the "Format" and "Format options" for video in output module settings programatically using After effects apis.
I referred the after effects cs3 sdk guide for the apis.
I find apis for all other options in the "outputmodule settings " like :
    AEGP_SetEmbedOptions
    AEGP_SetOutputChannels
    AEGP_SetStretchInfo
    AEGP_SetSoundFormatInfo
But there is no api listed for setting the options available in the "Format" tab and "Format options" tab.
The "Format" tab and "Format options" tab is available in the dialog that opens when user clicks on the Output module settings for the render queue item.
The format tab when clicked shows a drop down list with aff different formats. By default "Video for Windows" is set.
The drop down list contains following format options
    Adobe Clip Notes
    Adobe Flash video
    Quicktime movie
    Video for Windows
I need to be able to set the "Quicktime movie" option in the Format tab programmatically and then set the compression type as "Animation" in the compression settings programatically using the api functions available in AE CS3 SDK
Please suggest the suitable api to do so.
I need to write my own plugin to export to Quicktime movie using the after effects apis.
I follow below steps to do so.
    1. AEGP_InsertMenuCommand and add export option to AE with my own plugin name
    2. In the command hook, select active item using AEGP_GetActiveItem
    3. Add it to render queue
    4. Set the output module settings for 0 th output module using
    suites.OutputModuleSuite1()
    5. Use different functions from suites.OutputModuleSuite1() to set the output module settings like EmbedOptions,StrechInfo etc.
    6. Till this step, I am doing it right. But I am not able to find any api for setting Format options using suites.OutputModuleSuite1()
I also checked all other suites available for setting FormatOptions but no luck.
    Please help.
    Thanks,
    -Namita

    Hi Namita,
I am experiencing the same problem.
I am using AE CC SDK, and I am unable to change the outputmodule format to any of the other movie format types (mov, mpg, flv, etc.).
It is always set to "avi"
I even compiled and ran the Queuebert example in the SDK, and there I get the same problem: the path extension is always left on ".avi"
Does anyone know how to change this?

I do some VJ-type work, involving playback of QuickTime files from the computer to projections, and I get good results using ProRes 422. That's convenient, because ProRes 422 is such a great editing codec, too.
Traditionally, VJs use PhotoJPEG codec, which also works well, but it's a bad editing codec. So you would have to export an edited master, then convert.
If you want it to look as good as possible, definitely schedule some time to test the footage on the wall. You may want to change the color correction of your footage to match the projectors. And if you feed the video wall some flat gray, you can see if any of the projectors need to be  adjusted.
I'm not sure what application you're using for playback, but QuickTime Player 7 works well. It has an option to play fullscreen on an external monitor (View > Present Movie…).

  • AE "Format Options" Trouble

Hi everyone, I currently have After Effects CS3, and recently I have been having trouble with the render queue. By default, the output module is set to Lossless. When I get in to the output module and try to click on the "Format Options" button, AE freezes. Now I noticed that this happens for a lot of the different formats that I choose, but not all of them. For instance, the mpeg, wmv, adobe clip notes, and other formats cause AE to freeze. On the other hand, avi and the mov format work just fine. For the adobe clip notes format though, I don't even have to click on the format options button to make AE freeze, I just have to select that format and AE freezes. I really need help! It's very important that I be able to use the wmv format in particular. Thanks for any help.
P.S. when I choose a color or move the center point of an effect, say the lens flare effect, the final image should automatically update in the comp window. But it doesn't for me. Also, when I try to change these effect parameters, a white outline of the layer appears. It would be really great if someone could tell me how to fix this problem too. The automatic update  feature is very important for my work, and having it be disabled is most annoying. Is there a keyboard shortcut to fix that or something?
    Thanks again,
    Colbyashi

Alright, if there’s anyone who know how to fix the following problem, I need their help. This is a very serious problem and I’m getting nowhere. Please help me with this:
I can’t access the format options in the output module of the render queue for the following formats: wmv, adobe clip notes, mpeg, h.264, adobe flash video, and real media. Every time I try, after effects freezes. For some of the formats, all’s I have to do is select them as the output format and AE freezes. I don’t even have to select the format options button. I’m running on a Dell Vostro VOSTRO_410
    Intel Core2 Duo CPU
    E8400 @ 3.00GHz
    2.99GHz, 3.25 GB of RAM
Windows XP Pro Service Pack3 with After Effects CS3 8.0.2.27.
I've attached a screenshot of what AE looks like when it's frozen. Notice the bar at the top of the screen where the minimize, maximize, and close buttons are. It looks brighter than normal, like I'm not in the program.
I really need help with fixing this problem. Please, if anyone can help I’d appreciate it.

  • Error when selecting "Format Options"

2 Questions 1. Whenever I select "format option" in After Effects CC '14 It quits immediately and gives the following error "Last log message was: <140735272223504> <ae.blitpipe> <2> Making New Context" Question 2. I have a Macbook Pro Renting with Nvidia GT 750M, CUDA is installed are we just waiting on after effects to support this Graphics card?

We will probably need a bit more information. What OS are you using along with the rest of your system specs.
    Ruan Oberholster wrote:

What are you hoping for AE to do with that graphics card? Other than a few, certain third-party effects, After Effects doesn't use the GPU for much. See here: GPU (CUDA, OpenGL) features in After Effects
The only thing AE really uses the GPU for is acceleration of the ray-traced renderer. However, that is an obsolete feature. There are much better ways to do 3d in AE that render faster and are much more powerful.

  • AE CS3 crashes when setting audio format options for MP3

I've just submitted a bug report, but I wanted to see if anyone experienced this or have any suggestion.
Basically, when I add an MP3 audio to a comp, and trying to make a movie (exporting it as uncompressed QT), when I press the Format Options button under the audio options output, AE will crash.
    Here are the steps.
    1. Add an MP3 file to the project.
    2. Create a comp with only the MP3 file in it. You can also create other objects/elements in the comp as long as there's an MP3 audio file.
    3. Add the comp to the render queue (aka Make Movie)
    4. Under the Output Module settings, select "QuickTime video" for output. The "Format Options" for the QT movie is not important at this point, but you can select uncompressed animation.
    5. Check "Audio Output". Click the "Format Options" button under the Audio Output.
    6. After Effects CS3 will vanish from the screen without saying "Hi, how are you!"
    WinXP SP3 32bit / 4G
    After Effects CS3 8.0.2.27 dva:2.0.0.127845
Anyone getting this and knows why is this happening? Tried different MP3 files with the same results.
    Thanks

Thanks for reporting this. Adding repro steps is always very valuable (though I suspect that step 5 is all it takes!)
I think the nature of the source MP3 file(s) is probably irrelevant, since (if I understand correctly) the crash occurs when pressing the Audio Format Options button in the Output Module, not when previewing or rendering.
There was a similar report from another user. It looks like a problem with Quicktime on Windows, or at leasr some flavors of Windows.
Of course no combination of settings should make the application crash, but the odd thing that also struck me in the earlier report is... that by specifying MP3 for audio encoding on an Lossless (ie, Animation-encoded) Quicktime file, you're saving about 0.05 per cent in the overall file size/data rate To put it in perspective, you're making the audio go from 175 Kbytes per second to 30 Kbytes/s, on a file that easily can have a data rate of 20 Megabytes per second!

  • AE CS3 - Adobe Flash Video - Format Options causes crash

Like the titles states. I see so many people say Adobe Flash Video is the way to go for export options yet AE always crashes on me when I choose it's - Format Options (from output module in the render queue).
I use Flash all the time and it works fine but since I cannot access AE's FLV format options. Each time I press it AE just locks up.
Is this one of things Adobe just never fixed in CS3? I don't care to read comments saying to use something else to render it. That isn't what I'm asking so save it. I created a simple object in AE and just want to see how it looks with FLV export. AVI looks fine but seems like everyone says it would look better as FLV. Since I cannot access the format options for FLV it is the worst option and very blurry so that leads me to believe it was one of those things Adobe just abonded in CS3.
I searched and found nothing. I would continue my search but Adobe's choice for forum format couldn't be any slower. If Adobe can answer this question maybe I can shed some light on saving it's members some agony and teach them some PHP. This is rediculously slow and my worst forum puts this to shame.

Thanks Todd, that's what I figured. I remember when Adobe bought it  from Macromedia so figured it was just something I couldn't do with this  older version. I just figured I see what all the noise was and thought maybe it might have been an update for a plugin or something stupid. I normally use Xvid and either output in MP4 or AVI any. I'm not a video guy so rarely use AE. Just been experimenting and it's still a little foreign to me.
Appreciate the answer and your time!

As for the forum, I have several times left "forum feedback" but hmmm, let's see. None of you, not even Adobe employees can say they aren't tired of how slow it is here. If I google something, I'm sure to see what links are from where and will always skip ones that start with "forums.adobe" unless I have expelled all other options which is rare. This isn't about you not thinking that's true, it's about what's on your nose and comparing my post count to your own, haha. Yes, I should have relaxed before my post and that comment but even back paging takes 30 seconds. Let me guess, you're going to say it's my bandwidth I suppose? I can upload 50mb a min, and on the right site download several hundred,,, not the issue, Take care now.

  • Cannot Change Render Format In Project Settings FCP X 10.1.4

I am importing video files into Final Cut Pro X 10.1.4 from my Sony A7s. They are XVAC-S format, MPEG-4 / H.264 compression, 24fps at 50Mbps.
The issue I’m having is prior to importing the footage, when I create a new project I am unable to change the render format. The option is “greyed out” and not available to select or change and selects ProRes Proxy as a default. After I import the footage, I tried to only check the “Optimized Media” option but unless I also create proxy files, the footage in the editor says “missing proxy” and I am unable to edit my footage.
Next I tried to change the render format after I’m done editing by clicking on the project, opening the inspector, go under the “Info” tab, and select “modify Settings” and still the field is “greyed out” and unavailable.
The reason I need to change the render format is that rendering source the files into ProRes Proxy noticeably degrades the final image. Perhaps there is an easy step that was moved in the last update, but please help anyone. Thank you.

Now when you say viewer appearance popup, I'm not sure what that is. The only popups I'm aware of that give any access to choosing Original/Optimized Media are:
    1. Preferences
    2. Upon importing the files
    3. Right clicking the file after import and selecting "Transcode"
The inspector is on the right side of the application so is that what you are referring to?

  • "Crash in progress" Error when I click "Format Options" under "Audio Output"

In the Render Queue, I selected Custom under "Output Module". I changed the Format to "QuickTime Movie" using the JPEG - Photo codec (is it a codec?) However when I clicked on "Format Options" under "Audio Output", I got this.

There are two things here. The first and most important part is that, if there's a button, it shouldn't crash when pressing it. Agreed. Looks like a QT-related issue (if reverting to an earlier version of QT will fix it). But in any case, please feel free to file a bug report explaining the problem here.
The second thing would also be true if the button worked flawlessly: If you want to send to a client a video/audio file with reduced file sizes, bear in mind that Quicktime has not added a specific codec for this purpose since the early 2000s. They chose to follow the standards-based MPEG-4/H264 format. After Effects will make much better H264 files with compressed audio as well, if you pick "H264" as a format in the Output Module. An H264 file with MP4 extension will play perfectly on both Quicktime and the latest version of Flash. An H264 file with MOV extension should have the same quality (but not when done from AE), and it will only be compatible with Quicktime. They are otherwise identical.
Again, nothing in point 2 contradicts the fact that it shouldn't crash.

  • How to add the H.264 codec to my render format list?

Hi guys. Kinda new to the forums so sorry if this should go elsewhere but...
I'm having troubles with trying to add the H.264 codec to my rendering format options list (alongside quicktime, FLV, etc.)
My computer lingo isn't quite up to scratch (or computer (e-)vocab). If you could help me out (by providing a link or whatnot and explaining what to do) you have no idea how much it would help. I really need to render this project as a H.264 file.
    Thanks so much in advance!

Please show a screenshot of exactly where you're looking for H.264 and not finding it.
You choose the format in the Output Module Settings dialog box. H.264 should be there.
What version of After Effects are you using?

  • Jpeg A is not available in format options for redering

Hello everybody , I am using AF CS3  running in a new iMac with the new OS snow leopard, I also have the quicktime pro with all codec and I am trying to render my work. I would like to do that using the compression type Jpeg A. Unfortunately when I go in the render window, to format options and click in compression type, it is missing a lot compressions including the Jpeg A. I was wondering if somebody know how can I fix my problem?? I already had this problem before in another computer. I have fixed that going into the system preferences, in the quicktime icon and allowed it to use the previous codecs. This time there is no quicktime icon in the system preferences!! Does anybody can help me???

I just tested it on a MacBook Pro running OS 10.6.3 and QT Pro 7.6.6 and it worked fine.
    To confirm the process:
    open terminal window
    enter the text
    qtdefaults write LegacyCodecsEnabled yes
    and press enter/return
    Screenshot attached:
Notice the system responds with "Legacy encoders have been enabled".
What happens when you enter the text?

  • How to provide text formatting options to user from a text field

    Hi,
My requirement is - in the interactive form, a comments field needs to be provided where user should be able to enter text with formatting options like
    Headers
    indentations
    bold/italic
    bullet points and numbers
Once user enters the formatted texts in a text field, data needs to be displayed/printed in the same format. Could you help me on how to provide these formatting options to the user for a particular text field?
I understand that once I define the text field with format XHTML (with RTF), user formatting can be captured and displayed in the same way. But I am not sure on how to provide the formatting options for the text field.
    Thank you,
    Madhu

    Hi,
if you select a text field for Rich Text and the press Ctrl + E you'll get a bar for all available text formatting options in Acrobat/Reader.

  • Text formatting options

    Hi,
Is there a list somewhere which outlines more text formatting options than what is shown in the FAQ?
In particular I'm wondering how to make text that does not suppress white space other than using the "code" tag.
Also, the insert link option a shown above does not seem to work, or am I just stupid?
    Thanks.

    Dude wrote:
Also, the insert link option a shown above does not seem to work, or am I just stupid? That one has not been working for a couple of years or so. There should be a thread about it in this forum.
Instead, I'm using [ url=<insert link here> ] text [ /url ] (without the extra spaces in tags). Normal html link tag might work as well.

Sorry I ain't done yet. My trigger happy go lucky phone send the message at a flash. I tried to work around the none formatting issue using the word in the office but as I could not get it to work as expected within reasonable amount of time and number of tries I gave up. If you format a phrase and copy it it just copies the last format and ignores the copied formatting. Plus how do you make the f. Keyboard go away easily? Why internet has no forward arrow, only back! Is this some kind of joke? Why when texting can't you move back and forth with arrows, just the stupid cursor. NO undo function????? Elementary mr Watson, elementary. +You have to be an oracle to guess when an app will close when u hit the back arrow rather than go back!! Apps must not close like that. Pretty disheartening. Pretty pretty for a good looking phone like this.
And to be honest I am not going to buy a new phone for another three to four years come hell. Unless wify breaks my old one she uses now and I give her the brick.
