Render HDV Comp to DV AVI (AE CS3)

I have a comp I made with an HDV clip - the comp is set to the HDV specs.
I want to export this comp from After Effects to a DV AVI - 720 x 480 Widescreen (1.2 Image Aspect Ratio).
Can someone tell me what settings I need to change in the render que to accomplish this?
Thanks
FOO

Thanks for the response guys.
I have one more question. If my Comp is set to DV Widescreen (720 x 480 - 1.2) and I want to render it in square pixels - how can I change the size of the output when going to quicktime? I know with Adobe Media Encoder from Premiere Pro CS3 I can select the specific pixels - however I'm not sure how to do it using the render queue in AE CS3.
I'd like to export it to 640 x 360 pixels.
Thanks!

  • Dynamic Link Error (trying to render the Comp)

Using Premiere Pro CC and After Effects CC:
AE won't let me render a lossless video from a comp I created using Dynamic Link inside Premiere.  The workflow I'm currently trying to use is to lay out all my clips in Premiere, dynamic link to AE for denoise, grading, sharpening, add grain, stabilize, etc, render a lossless clip in AE, and then replace the dynamic link comp in the Premier timeline.  Unfortunately I get an error everytime I try to render my Comp from AE.  It will render a single frame using "Save Frame As" but it errors out with a sequence (.avi, .mov, and I even tried a targa sequence).
    I'm running a Windows 7 64 bit workstation.

Can you create a comp from scratch not using the footage from Premiere and render a lossless video from the timeline? Can you create a simple comp in AE using your footage original footage without effects and render a lossless version? Can you apply the same filters applied to the comps that crash to any footage a successfully render?
If the answer to question 1 is yes and the answer to question 2 is no then we need to know all about the original footage. What codec, frame rate, what camera. If the answer to question 3 is no then we need to know exactly what the filters are. An error message or crash report would also help.
Without answers to these questions it's nearly impossible to tell what is going on because we don't have enough information.

  • AE CS4 can't render 6K comp on Mac Pro 4x3GHz

Any idea why ? Can't do RAM preview or render large comps. I think this is a multi processor issue, but having that option disabled in the prefs does not help. So far the only workaround is reducing the comp size

Well i guess you have hit one limitation of AE. In order to render a frame, AE rendering engine must be able to store the biggest element of your composition into a continuous ram space. On windows XP/Vista 32, i standard Behavior AE can use up to 2gb of ram, and 3.5 on Mac. On windows vista 64bit, you can use up to 4gb of ram per core. A 6K image needs more than 1gb of continuous ram space, and it will need more if you add effetcs on it such as blur, dof and such.
In order to render your comp, you will have the following options:
    - Downsize your elements so they can fit into your Ram
    - cut your element. If your BG is a 6k psd file, divide it into several smaller chunks (1k, 2K is ideal) in Photoshop and import/align them into AE.
    - try to close any other programs than AE on your PC/Mac, disconnect it from the internet to turn off the antivirus (so you can free some more ram)
    - enable disk caching in "edit > preferences > cache & memory". (disk caching allows to free some ram, AE will store it's cached rendered element onto your hdd)
    - try to use the secret pref to purge every 1 frame and to disable caching (will save even more ram than disk caching). Warning this will slow down your rendering and it's to use with caution. To access the secret menu, press "shift", keep it pressed and then go to edit > preferences> general. Once the preferences menu shows up, release shift, and you will notice a new preference item called "secret".
    Hope that helps.

  • What is the best way to render HDV at 1920x1080?

Hello, I am working with HDV footage in an HDV project in Premiere Pro CS3.  I render it out at 1920x1080, square pixels, deinterlaced for the internet.  My final product is an 1280x720 H.264 .mov file that I make in Quick Time Pro.  My question is, what is the best codec to render out that 1920x1080 file so it looks nice?  I am using the Cinepak Codec by Radius because Quick Time Pro doesn't read a full res AVI.  Are there any codecs/ways that I should be rendering my file?  I tried using the H.264 method in Premiere, but the exported file doesn't work in Quick Time.  Any ideas?

WMVHD gives an excellent picture for the web.
    Even set at default settings

    Format: Windows Media
Preset: HDTV 720p 25 High Quality (for PAL)

  • Issues with Importing 'AVIs' into CS3

I have CS3 and am trying to import AVIs, but am getting no audio or no video, however it seems to be a bit unpredictable. On one computer one file will play with both on the other I get either audio or video but not both.
Have done a lot of reading tonight and can see that I need to be using DV AVI Type II, problem is I have been trying to do that! I have been using Format Factory and have had no luck both with the AVIs and the MPEG files that I have converted. So obviously it is not converting into a usable format.
Can anyone suggest a program that will convert to DV AVI Type II. I have looked at the list on Videohelp but none of them specify that they convert to DV AVI Type II.
I understand that I may loose quality, but am editing videos to go in school seminars and so need to use clips that are relevant and interesting for the students. And given that I have just purchased CS3 I would like to work out how to make it work!!
Any suggestions would be much appreciated!!
    Thanks!!

    Jeff,
To my *knowledge* it only uses the installed system CODECs. Only tip to this was when I added Lagarith, HuffYuv and Black Magic CODECs to the system, they suddenly were available in DMC. Now, this does not prove that it only works with system CODECs (it might have some of its own), but these three were not available, until I installed them.
Over the years, it's proved to be a good program. Yes, it does choke on occasion, but usually very stable, simple and I've yet to have a converted file (unless there was gross OE) not work in the intended app.
So far, 99% of my work with it has been going to DV-AVI's. It has been virtually flawless, even with some odd CODECs in the original files.
I have only tried a handful of others, but have not seen any that I'd rather have to replace DMC.

  • Import avi intro CS3

    Hi,
I'm trying to import an avi file to CS3 but in the audio zone there is no info, and on export there is no sound.
My avi files is converted from a mpeg file (because I can't import a mpeg into my CS3) using different compression algorithms, but it seems that is still no working for me.
    Any suggestions ?

I solved the problem, I followed another thread in this forum that suggest to simply change the extension from .mpg to .avi instead of using different third party software to do that. It's possible to be the conversion software that use some strange codec.
No my problem is that being a novice to Premiere I don;t know what setting to use to export my movie.
Now for about 35 minutes it has 4.5 GB. Maybe I have to use some special params to have a file more smaller.
I want to run my movie on a DVD Player.

  • Time to Render HDV to VD

I am trying to find the estimate time to render in Apple Compressor. I'm going HDV to DV. I am just looking for est. times on what others have found, basically to see if it worth editing in HDV or to just do it in camera. The typical length of a project is 1 1/2 hour to 2 1/2 hours. Any past experiences in this matter would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

in my own experience, exportings as QT Reference simply doesn't work as efficiently when dealing with MPEG formats. the long export time reflects this poor efficiency

  • Jumpy preview, render and export why? (Premiere Pro CS3)

Hi guys, When I try to import a small video that I took in my Sony CyberShot Camera DSC-S600 (in avicodec) it says my video is:
    MPG1 = MPEG1 (VCD).
    Resolution = 640 x 480 25fps.
If I just import that video, drag it to the timeline (below), and press ENTER, It will start rendering it without any effect that I've made, and in the playback it will like jump some frames in and out (some in reverse and then forward).
Also If i just import the video and make a playback, it will do the same, if I playback the video outside the premiere pro cs3 it will run just fine as it should be.
    My computer is a A64 3800+ 4GB RAM DDR2 800mhz, GF7600 gt 256mb is my video card.
(the video I'm importing is only 16mb).
Part of the video can be located in youtube, (see link).
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-_73D3Rdbqk
It was saved in avi, then uploaded to youtube.
    please help me.

    > "...much anything that "also does" video really isn't the right tool for the job..."
If the camera video can be converted to Pro video, then it can be considered "the right tool." Jim, there are a plethora of situations where a compact still camera that shoots video is the right tool. It's your subjective definition of "the right tool" that begs up on an old paradigm. A fictional character, McGyver, never seemed to have the right tool for the job. In fact, the entire idea of invention is to create
    i or adapt
the right tool for the job.
That the misinformed come here with questions does not relate. Many more are informed, take the appropriate steps and proceed to tell the story. And move people. Or get paid.
For example: I use a still camera that also shoots video as a tennis instruction tool: A one hour tennis lesson involves recording the various tennis strokes, performing a few quick edits, and placing the results on DVD for the student(s). According to you, I should bring a tripod, a bulky mini-dv video camera, etc. I should take the time to set up the equipment, before my students arrive. I should also take time to move the tripod to capture the various different angles. After the lesson, I should take time (excuse me, real-time) to capture the mini-dv into Ppro and edit.
To me, the video camera is the wrong tool for this job. Instead, I whip out the still camera that also shoots video, walk around to get the angles, shoot the specific strokes requested. Oh-and as a perk, I can take several high resolution still photographs, with a single knob turn. Back in the studio, I dump the clip files on the timeline, w/o real time capture. And I edit.
Students love the video (they don't care/can't tell about the reduced quality--they're interested in their strokes), and they
    i also
    appreciate the stills.
If I were doing documentary or broadcast, a still camera that also shoots video would be a poor choice indeed. But, here, I'd be stupid to bring both kinds of cameras. However, before the CEs intervened and created just the right tool, I had to bring both. And I hated it.
It's a paradigm shift, Jim. You might not be able to understand it if you suffer from perceptualsclerosis.
And now the CEs have my mouth watering, with EX-F1. Blur the line.
    Keep Smiling

  • Having to render HDV

I recently started a project in FCP using the Sony Z1U. I used the Easy Set Up in Final Cut Pro and selected the "HDV 1080i60" setting. When I imported everthing was going smoothly. Recently one of my high school students started to edit a DV project and changed some settings. Now when I go back to the original HD project and import it wants me to render the video clips. Any idea on how to get the project back where it did not have to render?
    Thanks for the help!

  • Photoshop doesn't let me render a video as .mp4, .avi or any video formats

I've finished my outro today and when I tried to render it as an .mp4, in the rendering screen there weren't any options that allowed me to render it with a video format. Please help!!

Nobody can help you without system information and otehr details like document dimensions, color modes, timeline settings, render settings and so on. You could have used some weird combination of stuff, you could have a problem with your system's CoDecs. We can't know based on your non-information.

  • Project link when using AME to render AE comp?

Adobe has suggested that we NOT use AE render queue to output file to MXF OP1a AVC-100 due to a bug in the format size . I rely on using the Project Link function when I did use the AE render queue. How do I get that function when using AME to export?

That's not something that you can do with AME currently.
If you rendered a master file from After Effects and then transcoded it in AME, you should be able to preserve the metadata from the master in the transcoded file output from AME.  Let me check to see if that works...

  • Have to render HDV to see in seq

I have looked at other posts and haven't found a solution. Capturing HDV from the new Sony. I am using the HDV preset and have the seq settings set the same. Any other thing that I am missing on.

    Hi Shawn,
Did you capture HDV or HDV - Apple Intermediate Codec? Assuming you are in NTSC land (would be helpful to indicate PAL or NTSC), if you used the "HDV" capture preset then using the "HDV - 1080i60" sequence preset should work without rendering. If you have used the intermediate codec, you would have to use the "Apple Intermediate Codec 1080i60" sequence preset respectively. If you are on PAL, replace every "60" above with a "50".
There is nothing else to miss really...

  • FCP Stuido 2 --- QT Reference takes long time to render HDV material

    Hi,
    another problem
i captured several hours of HDV material, all single clips, now i have over 300 single files/clips.
I edit all clips into a timeline (1 hour each long) then try to export as QT movie..i use a fresh system Mac Pro 8 Core FCP 6.0.1....i wonder because creating QT Refs take only a couple of seconds, now i wait 1 hour to export 1 hour as QT Ref...is this normal ? waste of time for me to wait so long...

in my own experience, exportings as QT Reference simply doesn't work as efficiently when dealing with MPEG formats. the long export time reflects this poor efficiency

  • AE watch folders: render comps via engines one by one

When using watch folder rendering with rendering engines, I don't want to have engines collaborate to render a comp, but rather render them one by one. IE, if comp1 is already being rendered, engine2 picks up comp2 and renders it and so forth. Is this possible? Thanks in advance.

You can do either of the following:
    1. Set the output modules to render to movie file formats, such as QuickTime. Render engines can not collaborate on rendering to movie file formats, because only one application at a time can hold a file open for writing.
    2. Set the different render engines to watch different folders. In this case, the render engines can't render the same project (unless you duplicate it into each watched folder).

  • After Effects CS3 - error: could not create 8935 x 9152 image buffer + slow

Hello. I am receiving this error message every time i try render my 3min composition. it gets about 1/5 way through which takes about an hour. i have read the General Specialist troubleshooting guide and it has not helped yet.
i am now rendering with Image Cache: Maximum RAM Cache Size at 10% and purging after every 20 frames (in secret prefs) - even if this works, the 3min render is estimated to finish in 9hrs. Does this sound normal, or acceptable? Is it possible i have a hardware deficiency? or something else lacking.
My PC specs are: Intel Core 2 Quad 2.40GHz; 4GB RAM; Geforce 8800 GTS. Running XP 32bit SP3; After Effects CS3 (fully updated). I have updated my graphics card driver (180.48) and my mainboard chipset driver. My memory settings are as they appear in the http://generalspecialist.com/2006/11/avoiding-after-effects-error-could-not.asp guide, & I've dropped max RAM cache to 10%. My disk cache size is 10000MB and set to an empty 75GB 10000RPM Raptor HDD.
The composition has 30 layers - mainly layers imported from PSDs and then animated with basic transform tools and some distortion effects (wave warp) to create 2D character animation. There are 6 pre-composed layers containing the same kind of PSD layers and animation. I try to render out to an uncompressed .avi in 720x576 with 15fps.
Even before I noticed this rendering problem, After Effects runs painfully slowly. the composition monitor takes ages to refresh, even in the Quarter quality view mode i am forced to work in. and over the course of the day, on 3 occasions - the PC lagged after scrubbing through the timeline, froze, then Blue Screen of Death'ed before rebooting before i could even read the blue screen error.
Please offer some assistance or ideas as to how i can move forward. I have tried to help myself with existing material online, but to no avail.
    Thanks,
    Nick.

    >Does this sound normal, or acceptable?
It sounds normal within the realm of AE, but how acceptable it really is, is another matter entirely. ;-) As suggested, scaling the sources in PS would be one way, another one would be to chop up the large documents into manual tiles and parent them together. Based on how AE works, only tiles visible within the comp frame will be loaded, which should make the whole process more streamlined. That's assuming they are not 3D layers that need to be fully visible at any given point, of course. Even then, rendering to an image sequence is still advisable in case of crashes... Depending on what you actually do, you may also want to find a different way of dealing with your distortion effects. They considerably expand/ dilate image buffers for processing, complicating the matter further.
