Render motion menu errors

I`m using 1.5 and I get an error window stating - "Abnormal conditions had been detected" whenever I render motion menus, either in the Preview window or File > Render Motion Menus. The animate box is checked. My videos are supposed to play in the buttons but to no avail. The error message does not have any troubleshoot measures and it doesnt tell me why is this happening.Where is the justice?!How do i fix this??!

Let's start with some questions first:
Tell us about your Motion Assets (the video files used), and how they are set up in Encore, i.e. 4 DV-AVI Type II files, each on a Timeline with the appropriate PCM/WAV Audio file.
Tell us how the Buttons are Linked to these Timelines.
The answers will possibly lead to a few more questions. Also, you'll likely have to help me, and some others, who might not have, or clearly remember En 1.5. Some of the suggestions that we make might only apply to later versions of the program. Just correct us, should we get too far from En 1.5, please.
Good luck,
Hunt
PS for some of this, a screen-cap might be worth 1000 words. Tip: use the little "camera" icon in the middle of the edit screen's toolbar to attach these, and not the "Attach File" dialog at the bottom-left.

  • CS4 Encore motion menu crash while transcoding (render motion menu)

    Hi,
I have a rather large but simple Blu-Ray project. I have a main menu (with a CS4 Premiere dynamically linked background video and WAV sound but no animation on buttons) that is linked to a series of video index menus with motion (the chapter are linked to six buttons that include video preview). All my videos are dynamically linked to a Adobe CS4 premiere sequence in five different projects. All the Adobe CS4 Premiere projects where manually transcoded with success. I have a total of 43 menus (including the main menu and one popup). Here is my problem...
In my Blu-ray project, every time render my motion menus, CS4 Encore crashes (no error message) and generates a crash report. The weird thing is that it never crashes at the same place. I can render from 1 to 6 menus before the crash. I have noting running except encore and I have no screen saver and my power settings is set to never.
I work on a Intell Quadcore 2.5 Mghz, 4 GB of RAM, Spphire HD4850 Graphic adapter (updated less than a week ago), Vista 32 (updated). All my CS4 apps. where updated less than a week ago.
    Any ideas???
Any help would be appreciated because I am getting very upset with CS4 Encore....
    SirEnigma

Finally I have found a workaround. I set all the motion menu's to no animation and build the projetc. Afterward, I put the animation on one menu and I render it. It is very long but it works. now my problem is elsewhere. On my output BD, some menu's only have a few second of animation before they loop. in some cases i dont even have a second. I have rebuilt my project and I have the same effetc but Encore seams to have put loop points at random.

  • File Not Found Error When Rendering Motion Menu

    Hi there.
I'm attempting to render a motion menu and keep getting the error "file not found". All of the necessary files are available and no specific missing file is mentioned.
The background video is a .m2v, and there is a .wav audio file too. They are 42 seconds long.
I tried other Encore projects and 2 others are doing the same thing, or coming up with a 'General Error'.
I have cleaned the Database in the Media Cache. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Encore. There are no updates available.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    David

Yeah, it would have taken me quite a while to redo the menus completely!  So I was very thankful for the save to menu template option.
When I (not recently, thank goodness!) have a project I suspect of corruption, I create a new project, and just "import as menu" from the old menu subdirectory. The method you used deletes the  menus, so exporting the menus helps.
    Mac OS 10.6.8
    That's Snow Leopard, right?
Actually, I'm not really sure about Encore terminology (this was my first project), but the only motion I have in my menus is the line that appears under the button text when that button is highlighted.  At one point I had the photo buttons (for videos) set to animate, but I removed that option.
A highlight is just a highlight, not "motion." Animated buttons, when rendered as the menu, are actually a video background, so that was a motion menu.
All 30 slideshows are actually individual video timelines.  They were created and exported from Photosho Lightroom 3.
In Encore terminology, those are just videos - many Encore users choose to do slideshows as videos.
I had originally tried creating each one as a slideshow from within Encore, but I was DEEPLY dismayed by how slow Encore became, evetually locking up at least once per hour.  It was ridiculous, even taking into account the fact that it is not a 64-bit program.  I planned to leave 2 of the songs as Encore slideshows (Lightroom can't do Pan/Zoom), but in the end I had to replace them with mp4s because the slideshows just would not play.  Really, it was about 11 wasted days plus 4 productive days to get me through the project!
Encore has a variety of problems with slideshows, but I suspect from your description that you were using very large images. Scaling them down a bit can improve performance.

  • Encore CS4 Crashing On Motion Menu Render

Working with a blu-ray project that has a total of 19 motion menus.  While attempting to render motion menus, the program crashes and takes me to a crash report screen.  I get no error message; just a crash and report screen.
The crash seems random in terms of when it occurs during the render process, so I cannot seem to narrow it down to a particular menu or file.  This crash occures both when building the project as well as when I try and render the menus through File>Render>Motion Menus.
I can find very little on the cause online, thus am attempting to post here in hopes that someone can share with me some answer as to how to fix this issue quickly.
    Thanks!

  • Encore CS4 Motion Menu Render Issue

I am trying to create a menu with background video. Here is my workflow:
I import my video and audio seperately as assets.
I open a blank menu from the library.
I click the "motion" tab for my menu and drag the "video" string over to my .avi file. All good.
I then drag the "audio" string over to my .wav file. All good.
After this I create my own basic buttons by switching to text and convert my text to buttons.
I then link my buttons to the other menus and timelines.
Then I go to File>Render>Motion Menus. Everything is fine until it gets  to 1723 of 1916 frames. Then it just stops. It doesn't crash it just stops at 1723 frames. My "elapsed time" and "time remaining" continue. I let it go for over 45 minutes with no results.
I went back to ppro and checked the lenght of my video in frames and it's only 1626 frames???
The avi is exported from ppro cs4 as a microsoft avi. It is only a minute in length.
I have deleted this project and started a new one. same thing.
I tried re-exporting the video from ppro. same thing.
I even started a completely fresh project in ppro and then yet another new project in encore. This time it stopped at 1729 of 1922 frames. The length in ppro is 1538 frames???
I've tried and re-tried over and over again today and sometimes I'll get an "Unspecified Drawing Error".
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

"Can you Open your Menu in PS, and then twirl open the Button Layer Sets, and do a screen-cap? There might be something obvious there - or maybe not."
-- I'm not sure what you mean by "Button Layer Set". I just created a new layer, selected the text tool and typed whatever I wanted the button to read. I added the (+) at the beginnning so encore could recognize it but it didn't so I converted it to a button in encore. I assume this is incorrect?
I am not using any motion thumbnails.
I am exporting as video only but when I export as a Microsoft AVI, PPro doesn't give me the Multiplexing tab:
Thanks Bill. I am a newbie so this is all trial and error for me. Hope this helps you help me.

  • DVD Burn Error: too much motion menu content yet not much.

    hi
Keep getting this when i try to burn my DVD, can anyone advise?
+- The following warnings and errors were found during the validation of the current project:+
+- There seems to be too much motion menu content in your project. Correct this problem before you continue burning this project.+
Message was edited by: Logic Pro

Perhaps you can elaborate a bit more. How many menus do you have in the project? In the scenes menus how many motion buttons do you have? How many differen audio files are you using in the menus? Of the files you dropped into motion menus/buttons, how long are those clips? How long are the various audio files you are using? ? ? ? ?? ????? ???????????
I can't see your project so I have no idea what you are already using and if what you have is clearly excessive or not.

  • For all of you who are having Motion Menu render problems - try this

Just humour me for a minute.
I have another Sonic application, and a known bug in the Motion Menu rendering applies to 29.97DF projects only.
    IE, NTSC.
Often the video in a motion menu will fail to mux.
    There are workarounds though.
1 - Make sure your GOP structure is 15 at most
2 - Make certain the frame length of your video file is divisible by the GOP structure. IE, it must be a multiple of 15 frames.
3 - if these both fail, reduce the bitrate of the video 500kbps at a time until it muxes. Most will work at 7,000, some need to be 6,000 and there are even times when you need to go as low as 4000.
Try it - Encore uses a Sonic Authorcore, so it's worth a look.

    >Are you saying that NTSC 29.97 divided by 15 is okay?
    Not really.
What I am saying is that your movie frame length should be divisible by the GOP structure with a GOP of 15.
With NTSC video, you can have GOP lengths
    i up to
18, but it is not mandatory to go to 18 - 15 is a perfectly acceptable figure. You could use a GOP of 12 if you really wanted to. What this means is typically the number of frames between I-Frames.
MPEG-2 encoding (AKA "Moving Pictures by Educated Guesswork") P & B frames work something like this:
i P-frames provide more compression than I-frames because they take advantage of the data in the previous I-frame or P-frame. I-frames and P-frames are called reference frames. To generate a P-frame, the previous reference frame is reconstructed, just as it would be in a TV receiver or DVD player. The frame being compressed is divided into 16 pixel by 16 pixel macroblocks. Then, for each of those macroblocks, the reconstructed reference frame is searched to find that 16 by 16 macroblock that best matches the macroblock being compressed. The offset is encoded as a "motion vector." Frequently, the offset is zero. But, if something in the picture is moving, the offset might be something like 23 pixels to the right and 4 pixels up. The match between the two macroblocks will often not be perfect. To correct for this, the encoder computes the strings of coefficient values as described above for both macroblocks and, then, subtracts one from the other. This "residual" is appended to the motion vector and the result sent to the receiver or stored on the DVD for each macroblock being compressed. Sometimes no suitable match is found. Then, the macroblock is treated like an I-frame macroblock. The processing of B-frames is similar to that of P-frames except that B-frames use the picture in the following reference frame as well as the picture in the preceding reference frame. As a result, B-frames usually provide more compression than P-frames. B-frames are never reference frames.
In short, the I-Frame is the full description reference frame. A P frame is also a reference frame but describes the difference between the last I-Frame & itself. A good analogy is when you are on the telephone & describing what you see to a friend. The initial background description (The street, the sky, what you can see etc) would be an I-Frame. Then you describe a person walking down the street - that would be your P-Frames, as you are only describing the i changes
    in the scene.
The bitrate can also affect things - I mentioned this too, and if a motion menu will not mux, first make sure that the film length is divisible by the GOP, and that the GOP is 15.
    If it
    i still
won't mux, drop the bitrate by factors of 500 until it will.

  • Encore CS6 Rendering of Motion Menu very Slow

I have a motion menu with 4 motion buttons 1500 frames in length. It takes 1hour and 14 minutes to render. So with 5 menus it takes 6 hours to render 5 minutes of menu. I have a HP Z800 with two X5660 xeon processors with 48gB of ram and a raid 1E disc with sas 15000rpm discs.CPU usage shows 7%. Disc throughput is small. Does anyone know how to fix this.
    Regards Trevor

    Hi Atlanta video,
I want to ask few questions to understand the issue.
    1. Are you able to burn same project sucessfully even once ?
    2. Can you attach motion menu that is crashing while rendering ?
    3. Is this crash consistent ?
    4. Is this crash  happens with only specific size motion menu (1920x1080 , 1440 x1080) ?
Also please attach crash dump .
If you are on Mac you will get crash data ,if you are on windows please follow the instructions to copy the crash dump:
"when the crash occurs and windows error reporting throws the dialog ‘windows is collecting information’ , let it run as its creating the dumps etc and then when the ‘send error report’ dialog comes, it shows path to 3 files if you enlarge the dialog with ‘view details’.
Two of those are general app info files, third is a actual dump file (with extension .mdmp). While this dialog is open we can copy the .mdmp from the temp location"
This information will help in isolating the issue.
    Thanks

  • Rendering a motion menu

I'm a new user of DVDSP. I used an apple menu template that has motion in it ("Light cover"), and it stutters in the simulator and viewer. (By the way, I eliminated the drop zone, & I just have one button that says "Play.") How can I render this menu so I can view it without stuttering?

Yup...piece of cake. All you have to do is open DVD Player (for best results don't have a DVD in the drive). Then on the top screen menu choose "File" then "Open DVD Media" and choose the VIDEO_TS folder you just created. Then hit "play" on the remote and viola! You can test it out, see how it works, look for errors, etc. (only thing you won't know is if anything would get chopped off the sides/top when played on a TV).
Best thing is, if you find some minor errors, you can fix them in DVDSP, build the project again, and reuse material in the original build folder (so it can take a lot less time)

  • Motion menu not working

I'm frustrated. In the menu, under Properties/Motion tab, I select the video that I want to set up as my motion menu and it's not working. All I see is a static image of the video clip. The audio works but not the video clip set for motion. Please help.

But what I remembered is using part of a clip in Encore and I had a hell of a job to, anyway, unsuccessfully work the sound out ok. This is when I made the exact clip I needed in PP and imported it in Encore. Then I set the loop for ever. This way you can have this clip playing till someone chose what to wathch. I guess it's nice to have some movie starting automatically when there are not to many choices from them.
When doing both a Motion Menu and also adding Audio to it, you will probably be best served to Export these as elemental streams from PrPro, and Import those into Encore.
I will create a new Sequence in the Project, and create the Video part to the intended Duration for the Motion Menu. Same for my Audio, and often do this in yet another Sequence. I will chose Audio source files with quite a bit of repetition during the Duration, and a fade-in/fade-out to it. I've marked a half-dozen SmartSound pieces, that work very well for this.
The Video is Exported as DV-AVI Type II, with NO Audio, and multiplexing is turned off.
The Audio is Exported as either PCM/WAV 48KHz 16-bit, or AC3 DD 5.1 SS through the SurCode encoder (plug-in that costs ~US$250) for Surround Sound, NO Video and no multiplexing, obviously.
Doing it this way solves a lot of potential problems. Muxed files can cause issues with En, though not always.
One caveat that I learned the hard way - if you have Audio on your Menu and also Button Transitions with Audio, you will want the Audio for each to match perfectly in format and CODEC. Otherwise you will probably loose the Audio in one, or the other. Last caveat - stay as far away from MP3's as you can. Some work, some just do not and the quality will already have suffered greatly. I only use these for some of my SFX in PrPro and never, never for anything else.
Good luck and don't forget to Render those Motion Menus... [Grin]

  • Motion Menu Woes

Please would someone help me with this...
I have a simple menu structure: 6 buttons linking to encoded m2v files (each video is about 4 minutes long). The background of the menu is a looping video (transcoded to m2v) and the audio is coming from a wave file.
If I select 'animate buttons' when I render the motion menu, it hangs. I have tried re-encoding the quicktime files and still it hangs. I removed the background looping video, and it doesn't make a difference - all roads lead to a hang!
I have spent hours and hours on this and just cannot get it right. What am I doing wrong?
    Many thanks

  • Using LT for motion menu background – problems

I’m trying to use a LT texture (Canvas>Sinopia) as a motion menu background. I exported 30 secs of the rendered texture direct from LT. The QT file size is 1.09 GB. Couldn’t get it to work in DVDSP. Took that file into FCP and re-exported it using custom settings. File size now 108.7 MB. Still doesn’t work in DVDSP.
Should I be putting the 30 second file through Compressor? Is it the large file size that is causing the problems?
Importing the .lpr file into DVDSP also doesn’t work (although I prefer to pre-render all assets, otherwise DVDSP slows to a crawl).
I’ve now tried the texture as a 5 sec version (20 MB file) – works fine, but there’s an annoying jump in the loop every 5 secs. If I could fix that, the menu would probably be OK.
    Any advice appreciated.
    Regards. Robert.

Both solutions worked. Wish I could award 2 solved stars.
Compressor produced an m2v file of 21.9 MB. I'm going with that because the workflow is quicker and simpler on my old setup.
Exporting as DV from FCP produced a file size of 103.2 MB. My DVDSP slows down with large file sizes, so I'll give it a miss. Or could still be me doing something incorrectly.
I'm working in SD PAL 16:9.
    Help was much appreciated.

  • Motion menu: interlaced or progressive?

I'm coming from Sony DVD Architect which required progressive video when using as a motion menu.  Is there a preference when using motion menus in Encore?
    Thank you,  Marc

Well, even going from HD interlaced to SD interlaced can cause problems, so going to SD progressive is riddled with more problems and not necessarily possible to be done properly.  If the footage has been flagged with a pulldown pattern, then absolutely get it 23.976 PsF in After Effects (or something) for your final outputs (dvds, compressions, etc.).  Once clips are edited together and exported as a self-contained movie, any pulldown pattern that existed for the individual clips won't necessarily be detectable or removable.
The only way that I have found to make a great encoded file when going from HD interlaced to SD is to master to HDCAM, and then capture back as SD 29i anamorphic (NTSC D1 720x486 ProResHQ).  Then I encode this file in After Effects as an m2v, with the render output cropping out the 6 lines.  This is not very practical for most people because you need to have an HDCAM deck and a Kona 3 (or equivalent) card.  Again not practical for most, but a DigiBeta deck could be used instead and do the downconvert on the way out to tape.
There are other ways to de-interlace a video, but I am talking about getting proper motion and titles/credits to look as close to perfect as possible.
When the source file is progressive to begin with, I drag the file into a new comp in After Effects.  Change the comp settings to 720x480 (1.21 PAR) 23.976, scale the video to the correct size, and render out an m2v.
The motion menus could be progressive even if the rest of the dvd is all interlaced.

  • Timeline to Motion menu black gap

I am creating a Blu-ray DVD from HDV footage 23.98 encoded to mv2 using compressor as 1440 x 1080 @ 23.98 15-25mbps. Created the DVD in Encore CS4. When the video ends it goes to black for about 3 seconds then goes to the motion menu which is a match frame from the video in the timeline. There are no overrides set and it is programed to jump to the motion menu at the end at the timeline. Anyone seen this and know a work around? The only thing that is non standard is that the motion menus are a 5 minute video that is counting down. Would a five minute motion menu cause this?
    Second question:
Can a motion menu be paused at the end the way DVD Studio Pro does?

Generally this is a player specific issue and not the authoring.
Most dvd and blu-ray players will freeze the last frame of the previous menu/transition/timeline while it loads the next one. Some players do not (such as the PS3 I believe).
Also, this is unlikely your issue, but sometimes when a disc is burned too fast, the player has difficulty reading the disc (trying to read over the errors), thus causing prolonged delays between menus/transitions/timelines where the player will display black as it searches for the asset on the disc.
