Render-out of memory

Hi
I have a short project, only 7 minutes. All stills/pdf files. None are horribly big. Using Motion to add some movement. First couple of shots I'm trying to render after adding a small move in FCP 7.0.1 and it gets to about 55% then says 'Out of memory'. My render folder is on a 2 TB drive so space there is not an issue. I've rebooted to clear RAM but still same message. Any ideas?
Thanks
Colin

You likely have a still in the CMYK or Grayscale colorspaces.
If this is the case, convert the offending still image to RGB. FCP doesn't like images in any other format.

  • "Error: Out of Memory" when trying to Render

    Hello all,
I'm editing a project in FCP 5 that is using, in part, .mpeg-4 videos downloaded from the internet. After several weeks on the project with things going fine, the downloaded videos can no longer render. I can see them in the source window, but when laid into the sequence these downloaded videos produce an "Error: Out of Memory" message. Other videos of this type that are already rendered and playing in the existing sequence cannot be re-rendered or adjusted without producing the same Error message.
    A few things to remember...
    1. Other types of rendering, such as filters and fit to fill effects, render just fine.
    2. There is over 30 GBs on the external drive this project is running on.
    3. I've tried resetting scratch disks, transferring the project to another drive, and opening it on a new, super-fast computer, and nothing is different.
Please help, I'm really stuck in the mud here and am dying to get past this issue,
    Peace,
    Sam

Did either of you find an answer? I'm running into the S A M E issues. I feel strongly that it has to do with the quicktime update, as editing mp4's worked FINE in January.
There is a lengthy protocol for trying to circumvent this issue:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1413028&tstart=0
Didn't work for me, but I think it worked for the query. And VLC (http://www.videolan.org/) ended up being the only program I can even VIEW mp4 in now properly.
So if you can use a viewer, that works.

  • I'm getting an error Out of memory message when I try to render - There's lots of memory

I'm getting an error Out of memory message when I try to render - there's lots of memory and I've never gotten this before - any ideas?

Thanks - I did go through and change all the profiles to Apple RGB, there are several to choose - but I'm still having problems - I think it has to do with corrupt  images - Im backing up and starting over - I've worked with images large and small for years and never had this problem - thanks

  • Out of memory when i render HD with many layers

I got a message error ( out of memory ) when i render HD full 1920 X 1080 in final cut pro 5 with many layers ( 6 to 9 layers ). I have 5.5 gig of memory and when is crash....1.5gig of memory is free in my activity monitor. If a buy more ram...my problem will be resolve? Please help me if anybody know about this problem.
    thank
    Yan

I am having the same problem...(out of memory on renders)
I've been watching my activity monitor and cancelling the render before I run out of memory... but I'm not getting much done and I can't do a big render at night.
I've done all the usuall things... no CMYC files. Trash Prefrences... etc..
    Two questions:
I am using Magic Bullet filters and they seem to stack up the inactive RAM. (When the incactive ram fills up that's when I get the "out of memeory") You said you saw a post about that a few days ago...Was there an answer besides changing out the filters? or can you point me towards the posting?
I'm also trying to figure out how to dump or clear the inactive RAM once I'm done with a render. I found that if I do a full restart I can clear my RAM and get a bunch of renders done before I fill up the inactive ram again. This is going to be a long project if I have to do that.
    thanks
    Mark

  • Render - Error: Out of Memory

I have been getting the following error message while trying to render - Error: Out of Memory.
The system I am working on has 10 gigs of RAM and is connected to a SAN with a whole lots of storage. The error message doesn't appear until almost the end of a render, which is of itself very annoying. Anyone know why this is happening? If I restart the application I am OK for a while then it happens again.

If you really want me to hold your hand I will. Here's some links that came up when I typed "Out of Memory"

  • Out of memory when render

    Hi
When I 'render movie' I get the out of memory message.
Is there a render folder in livetype i can empty?
Not having much luck finding it
    Niel

    Cheers Nick
I upgraded to studio3 and Snow leopard. I did'nt do a clean install (chanced my arm) and am now experiencing all sorts of weird and wonderful bugs (quite entertaining though) I will do a fresh install of both, but at the moment I'm mid project, and will have to stay entertained with my bugs.
One of the joys, my little Gremlins, brought to my computer is that I get all sort of warped end results from Livetype, when I try to follow the 'save and import' route. Thus I'm trying all alternative dirt back roads to finish my project.
I just wanted to share my frustations......

  • My final cut studio keeps giving me this error out of memory message when ever i try to render a piece of footage and its closing unexpected. Does anybody know the reason?

My final cut studio keeps giving me this error out of memory message when ever i try to render a piece of footage and its closing unexpected. Does anybody know the reason?

I had this problem about 2 months ago and, as others have suggested in this thread, eventually traed it backed to some stills I had scanned and brought into the project.  Accidentally I had changed the scanner settings, with the result that a couple of skills were well beyond 1980 x 1020 pixels.  I resampled the stills and everything was fine again.  Hope this might help.

  • Error: out of memory during render

    Hi,
I am attempting to write a non-self contained quicktime movie from a sequence in FCP 6.03. The sequence was originally edited in AIC 720p, then onlined to 8 bit uncompressed via the .m2v files.
When rendering I receive an "error: out of memory" message.
I am wondering what might have caused this, as I have not experienced it before. I have done a search within mac forums, but none of the threads I found seemed to address my specific issue.
    Any thoughts??
    Thanks,
    -Tom

Onlined to 8 bit uncompressed SD? or HD?
You likely have a corrupted media file involved. It's usually the same percentage in from the head of the sequence, as the failure is reported... i.e, the failure is reported after 50% complete? then look half way into your sequence, and re create or re capture that area of the sequence.

  • HT4059 When I try to load an ePub book it says out of memory.  How many books can you read at one time?

When I try to load a second book it says out of memory.  How many books can be read at one time?

    Thank you so much...
    1. I don't have that fat format I checked as I saw this on another answer...BUT...you are right the project was very bloated and I made a new project with the sequence and moved a bunch of projects off to an outside drive and things are flying again...this effect "twirl" was on three clips and this seemed to be creating a problem along with it being a bloated project. Don't know why this effect renders easily then the next second doesn't it's on three clips on the entire project and one or another might not render all of a sudden.
    2. I understand what you said about the timeline export...I decided to export the sequence without the matte it was nested in and that sequence did have the chapter markers on the timeline and they again didn't export??? I'll look tomorrow at this it makes no sense if what you're saying is how to do it...the final cut pro book said they should have showed up if I export from the browser and that didn't work either.
    3. I then matted that output and rendered it to output but I am worried this will degrade and compress the sequence more than I want by outputting the same sequence with current settings twice???...the couple of outputs I could make nested looked very good as this was one render...however, I tried doing a quicktime "current settings" with the dvd studio pro info still trying to export chapter markers and maybe it's my imagination but the output didn't look as sharp as just an output with just chapter markers???
    r. I did look at the final cut pro book and it says that mpeg 2 movies will not read chapter markers anyway if you create one in compressor...if this is true it makes no difference if the quicktime output isn't having chapter markers show up. I assume when I go to author though I can put an mpeg 2 movie into dvd studio pro and create chapter markers at that point!! It seems weird it says it can do it with an mpeg 1 but not an mpeg 2 when everyone is using that for dvds.

  • Unable to create titles, getting "Out of memory" error message

I am editing a project on FCE 2.0.3.
I recently re-opened the project after about a year. It is stored on a 500GB external firewire hard-drive. I am working on a Mac G5 Powermac 7.2 with OS 10.4.11 with 1GB of RAM. I have my system settings on FCE set at 100% for memory usage and still cache. All my system settings on FCE are set to save to the external drive. I have 16GB available on my G5 memory.
Every time I try to create a title using Title crawl, i get this error message:
AE Effects Error: Out of memory using "title crawl."
Also, every time I close the project and re-open it, I have to reconnect all the media and re-render everything, even though I save the project each time. I have also Saved As a different project name multiple times and this doesn't help.
One other issue: The titles that I have on the project already look clear when the video is paused on a frame, but when they are moving they look very low-res and pixilated. The pixilated look also happens when I output my video to a QT movie. How can I make the titles look sharp?
    Please help!
    THANKS

Before you do anything, trash your preferences exactly as detailed in this link:
    http://fcpbook.com/Misc1.html
+"AE Effects Error: Out of memory using "title crawl.""+
Try pushing down the memory usage and still cache a lot, and see if that helps. You only have 1GB of RAM, so keeping them at 100% is not a good idea. A computer can easily use about half a gigabyte just maintaining regular processes. To make sure you don't overload your RAM, you need to set the amount of memory FCE can use to a much smaller amount.
+"Also, every time I close the project and re-open it, I have to reconnect all the media and re-render everything, even though I save the project each time. I have also Saved As a different project name multiple times and this doesn't help."+
Are you moving files around on your scratch disk or renaming them? If so, you will have to reconnect them every time you change things.
+"The titles that I have on the project already look clear when the video is paused on a frame, but when they are moving they look very low-res and pixilated. The pixilated look also happens when I output my video to a QT movie. How can I make the titles look sharp?"+
Are you looking at the fully rendered movie? Click Option-R to render everything out.

  • Cannot see images occassionally: "Out of memory"

    Hi,
I love Lightroom, but have the problem that is really interfering with my work. When I look at a larger collection of images (100+), every now and then the image area will be greyed out, and it will say 'Out Of Memory' in red (upside down and back to front) in the lower left corner.
This never happens when I am looking at thumbnails in Library-mode. It does happen when I am looking one image in Library-mode, in deverloper mode, and frequently in the Slide-show mode. Interestingly enough: when an image is not visible in Library-mode, chances are it is visible in Developer-mode and Slide-show (and vice-versa).
I use Lightroom for a lot of subtle retouching, so I can imagine the files are large. I would understand in Slide-show that the CPU simply doesn't have the time to render the image with all the alterations I apply to it -- but in Developer and Libarary-mode I can wait and wait, and the image nevr shows up. Then I go to Developer, and there it is!
I store my images on a seperate dedicated external harddisk connected through USB 2.0. I have browsed through the forum already, and found a solution in changing the windows pageview setting. I did this, but it made no difference. The problem still occurs with the same frequency. I have not installed LR 1.1 yet; the negative reports on this forum have scared me: I really don't need my database messed up right now.
Any suggestions you might have will be greatly appreciated!

    Guys,
Before I start this rant... I LOVE LIGHTROOM... but no more ADOBE, I cannot stand it anymore... sort out the OOM errors now, before I put my Lightroom CD into the shredder and then post this SHAM on every ADOBE forum I can find.
I have experienced the out of memory error 11 times today. I am working with 30,000+ images in Lightroom 1.1 on XP, but only looking through 58 files while doing an import of 100 files I get the "OUT OF MEMORY A2" error. This looks suspiciously like another of the, now famous, debug errors used by the developers to track the 'pain' issues. I would challenge Adobe that they know EXACTLY why this happens, a limitation in the programming techniques for their chosen development platform is highlighting issues in the Windows Memory sub-system and they cannot do diddly squat about it... they are just 'attempting' to clean up memory leaks where they can, by putting markers (A2) into the code. It would seem that they are down a creek without the proverbial paddle.
Tom Hogarty & ADOBE listen up... stabilize the memory issues stop listening to your marketing bods who are probably leaning over your shoulder as I write these words. You are going to suffer at the hands of Aperture and Capture One if you dont get your act together. I have used both of the above with little or NO errors at all.
Tell us ADOBE why do none of your engineers or developers talk openly about OOM errors, stop silencing them... lets get a discussion going there are some very capable developers out there willing to help for FREE! Are you mad... admit the problems and get people to help... Open Standards could teach you guys a thing or two!
Remember for everyone of of us that actually has the balls to complain, there are a 1000 who just sit and suffer not knowing what to do!
Fix the OOM issues before you do anything else this week!! Provide an interim 1.1.x update and make people happy they bought ADOBE and above all else remember at the end of the day these people PAY your wages.

I cannot for the life of me figure out what is going on here.  I am running a decent rig (i7 4790k, GTX 970) yet any time I start a new project in Photoshop, I immediately receive an "Out of Memory" notification.  I have posted my system information below.  Any help would be greatly appreciated as I rely on Photoshop daily for my work.

  • Large Pdf using XML XSL - Out of Memory Error

    Hi Friends.
I am trying to generate a PDF from XML, XSL and FO in java. It works fine if the PDF to be generated is small.
But if the PDF to be generated is big, then it throws "Out of Memory" error. Can some one please give me some pointers about the possible reasons for this errors. Thanks for your help.

  • Error compiling movie: out of memory !!! Premiere CS3

Hey every1 --- desperate need of some guidance here. I've been all over the internet and these boards --- have seen this come up with a lot of people but no real solid answers that I'd seen or that have helped.
First off, my comp is an imac 3.06 Ghz Core 2 Duo, 4GB memory. (just bought the computer last year)
I'm shooting with a canon 7d in HD (1920 x 1080p) and I'm editing using Premiere CS3. I've noticed that editing has become very difficult since I started using HD; playback is very choppy and the 'quality settings' in the preview monitor are a joke and do absolutely nothing whether it's on draft or automatic.
Anyway, despite the choppiness and slow editing, I was able to get a 3 min clip completed. These are my export settings:
    Export > Movie
    H.264
    960 x 540
    23.976 fps
    Square pixels,
    100% quality,
    recompress: unchecked.
Once exported (I was able to export smaller timelines previously--- say, 50 secs of footage or so) the files look AMAZING and from there I use them for online video via vimeo -- stuff looks really awesome.
Anyway, recently I'm getting: 'Error compiling movie. Out of Memory. Change optimization preferences to memory', etc. etc. Well, I did as it asked and that did absolutely nothing.
So, I decided to open up my activity monitor and watch what's going on with my memory while premiere is exporting. I also closed ALL unused applications. System runs at about 2.16gb free memory before I start exporting. Memory seems stable during export UNTIL around the 50% exporting mark, and then its starts climbing like crazy and my memory just gets eaten up --- finally resulting in a crash at about 70% render.
I really don't know what else to do. Does my computer not have the power to export 3 min of HD footage??? This seems surprising to me ... I don't know what else to try.
    Thanks for any help !!!
    -Mark

    Hi Mark,
Hope you are having a wonderful day.
Sorry to hear that you are having such a hard time. Although I did not specifically get the out of memory error, I can only be convinced that that is the problem.
Although I am not a computer whiz, I have learned my share of things. I have been troubleshooting a video all this week (really, a couple of months), but I had to put it aside and come back to it.
I tend to be talkative; so I will get back on topic or at least try to stay on topic, so bare with me. Smile....
Here is what I have learned and maybe it will help you with yours if you have not found a solution already.
Based on your hard drive specs and ram, I was thinking the same thing e.g. hard to believe that you are not able to render 3 minutes of video in HD. I primarily work in HD/1080p.
The place where we are similar is that I eventually could get the video to render by reducing the workspace that is rendered piece by piece until I was able to render the entire file. When I tried to encode the video, I kept getting error compiling messages. I tried different codecs, deleting xmpses, not rendering xmpses, etc. I could not figure out the keyframe trick so I just put in a black video from after effects. By the way, all of my videos intro the same and no problems with the other videos fading from black to a still photo.
Here is the problem from what I could gather.
Simply, out of memory. I was rendering and trying to encode a 45 minute video with after effects compositions and the dynamic linking kept timing out once the file reached a certain size. There were no other true fancy effects. I do alot on the green screen and just use after effects to make a white background. Smaller videos, rendering has been slow, but doable. This massive video would never compile. I won't bore you with my system specs, but know that similar to your situation, the system in theory should have been adequate.
    Work around...
I ended up exporting the video as 3 separate 15 minute video clips. I could not get them to encode as .wmv files so I encoded them as .mp4 files. By the way, I still encoded in HD.
    Here is the kool stuff.
After what seems like forever, I found a converter that could convert .mp4 to .wmv and rejoin the files to play as one large file with the same quality as my source file and no audio synching issues. By the way, I do not work for this company. I just found this encoder at 4 o'clock this morning after trying all of these other converters that were straight garbage or were free to try and not really free if you wanted quality. By the way, the conversion tool is not only user friendly, but free which is awesome.
The name of the software is Media Cope. Just visit www.mediacope.com.... Be sure to send the owner an e-mail to thank him and let him know that Mark sent you. I just sent him an e-mail earlier to let him know that I was going to post on Adobe what a wonderful software he created. I just needed something free, quick, easy, and user-friendly.
    Whoops... got off topic....
I'll do a summary at the end for my recommendation to you.
Here are some other tidbits that I learned as well that may save you some time.
When editing this is what I do now...
    1) I use CCleaner from www.piriform.com to quickly clean my system especially temporary files before I start editing and if I am switching from project to project.
    2) In all of my troubleshooting this week, I found a kool little software call Smart Close. (Just google to find this one.) It closes all of your non-critical background files in order to maximize system resources. (When I am done editing, I just reboot and all of my background programs start up again. You do not have to do it that way, that's just how I do it. The nice thing is that it is a wizard interface; so you do not have to try to figure out if a process in the background is critical or non-critical.)
    3) Depending on my mood and if I did not forget, smile.... I change the priority to high for the adobe products in the task manager.
    More things that I learned...
    1) We are not able to change the temp file for how Adobe encodes. My logic was if I could change the encoding to a hard drive that was simply empty so Adobe can render there, then I would be good. Wrong.... Adobe does not allow you to change the temp location. (Note: This is what I discovered in the different forums; so encoding to an external hard drive is not the best move. Read more to se why.)
    2) It is best to have your scratch disks as your internal disk. If you have multiple internal disks, then you shoud check some other forums for the best way to set up your scratch disks. When I was just starting out, I bought an external hard drive enclosure with the thought that I would work primarily off of those external drives with the option of doing some RAID work. Bad idea... Even the simplest of tasks took forever. It was best to work off of the internal drive. By the way, I still use the enclosure hard drives for backups in order to allow me to free up some space on the primary hard drive. When rendering, it is truely a use of the RAM and the hard drive space in the editing process.
    I'll leave you with this...
I take back what I said earlier, you do need a new computer with more RAM. If you can get 16 GB, great. The primary reason is that if you are editing in Premiere and if you do anything with dynamic linking into your after effects, it will cause your ram to climb as the file gets larger. Of course, be sure to get the largest hard drive possible as an internal drive, the maximum on processor speed, 64 bit operating system, etc.
I know you are like by now, Mark, what is the point of all of your gibberish... Really, it was to share with you and others on some really kool work arounds.
My recommendation for you are as follows.
    1) You have already proven that you can render and encode 50 second clips and you are very happy with those clips, so create separate smaller clips for this particular project.
    2) Once you have the final clips outputted, then use Media Cope to rejoin the files as one large file and you are done.
(Note: The one thing that I did notice is that there is a small break right between where the files are merged. The nice thing is that as a video editor/film maker, you will be the only person likely to notice it because you know where the breaks are. The other nice thing is that the untrained eye will not notice it and if you had to submit your work to a television station especially on DVD, the video system should recognize the file as one large file and play all the way through. Note: For the last sentence, I said 'should play all the way through' as I have not had a chance to check this one yet as I just finished this project today and still have to turn in all of my videos. I still have some more videos to merge.)
By the way, the only specs that I will share are that I work on a PC and it has 8 GB of ram.
The summary of the summary is that sometimes an error compiling message could simply be that your system does not have resources to render and the encode that large of a file. At least that is what I learned this week or at least my specific situation. The confirmation is that I just finished shooting a documentary which was one hour and some change and was able to render and encode to .wmv with no problems. Of course, I was not using after effects for this particular project.
In either case, hope all the information helps you with your project.
Have a wonderful day and happy holidays everyone.
    Mark

  • Constant out of memory errors

I am consantly receiving out of memory errors in fcp 5.1. Now when rendering I have to split it up into sections to render so I dont get the error (eg - render 5 seconds of footage at a time)
My rendered files folder contains 203 files and I was wondering whether I could just delete all the files and then just re-render the project in one go - or will this just screw up the project?

If I delete all the rendered files, when I re-render will it make just the one render file? If so does this mean everytime I make a change in the project it will take longer to render as Final Cut will have to re-render the whole file?
