Render problems

Hi,
I have serious render problems with Premiere CC. I't wont render at all. Crashes down every time with a window saying occurred serious problem...
The file that i've been working on is heavy with AE direct links and above adjustment track.
Im working station is Mac Pro Mac OSX 9.2.
So I assume having this machine Premiere will run smooth.
But on contrary I cant touch my files because it will crash down.
Can anybody have any suggestions that are not exporting all my AE files as movie clips and reedit the whole video again.
Thanks!

I am on Windows, but have a few saved Mac discussions that may help (or, may not... but free to read)

  • Has CS6 fixed the PPro with AE dynamic links slow to render problems?

I've got PPro with AE dynamic links slow to render problems similar to those discussed in this thread:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/904652?start=0&tstart=0
As I understand it (and I could well be wrong), if I render a PPro project that has AE projects dynamically linked in (anything from simple lower thirds to color grading), during rendering the AE bits run as a service, which limits the AE bits to a single CPU and effectively stops simultaneous rendering of multiple frames. This is why I can get very high render times (essentially no parallel processing), and why messing with the number of CPUs allowed for simultaneous frame rendering, or the amount of RAM said CPUs can access, has little to no effect on total render time.
Supposedly as some point AE was going to be changed such that it used Media Encoder to do it's rendering (same as PPro does), thus speeding up rendering for any PPro project that has AE parts dynamically linked in.
Has this been done in CS6? If not, any idea when that's scheduled to happen?

(I do wish Adobe staff would keep this distinction mind when creating their videos.  When I saw one about the new background rendering in PP, I was interested, only to learn that he was actually talking about background exporting, a feature PP has had since AME was introduced in CS4.)
The distinction is not so distinct, and this is an industry issue, not really Adobe. After Effects has a render queue, which is used for exporting, but you can also export. Lightwave has this, even Avid. The terms do have their own distinct meanings, but of course context is usually required. So usually "rendering previews" or "rendering final output" serve as context-sensitive uses of the term.
Terminology abuse is widespread, even people with video cameras now call themselves "filmmakers" and people who produce films never shown nor intended for a cinema call themselves "cinematographers." ENG video producers are called "photogs" and news photographers are called "photojournalists."
Transcoding, encoding, rendering, exporting....mish-mashed unfortunately, but thankfully most people can figure out what's meant.
Back to the OP - After Effects can be used with Adobe Media Encoder, it's just not the default. You can import any composition into AME from AE and render your encoded export.
As for background rendering....I remember when Pinnacle Liquid was the first to the table with that feature back in 2004 or 2005. It seemed awesome, except that you needed a ton of spare hard drive space and lots of processing to keep the background rendering going...effecitvely your processor was in use 100% of the time. When you weren't scrubbing or playing back, Liquid was rendering previews. Of course, you could use those previews during export but you rarely would have wanted to do so, since it was better quality to reference the original data when compositing the layers and effects to output to a web file, for instance. Then  you had to keep cleaning up the preview cache.
I rarely render previews at all, and when I do it's just a small segment at a time, just to get a full look at the final composite. Mercury Playback is usually more than capable of playing back most of my edits the rest of the time.

  • Render problems and fed up with after effects

    Hi all,
I'm I the middle of trying to do a very simple pan and scan corporate video, the crux being its in stereoscopic 3D. First I've tried using cineform plug ins and have had numerous problems and basically don't think highly of their product. Since after effects has plug ins for stereoscopic I've moved to try and use them. All seems to be going alright for most of the footage. But I'm have some issues with a very import pant part of one video.
    My set up
Mac 2x2.4 GHz Quad-core Intel Xeon
    12GB of ram
    Mac OSX 10.7.2
    ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024MB
    NVIDEA Quadro 4000 2048MB
    After Effects CS5.5 (10.5.0.253)
630GB free on 1TB boot drive
    1.8TB free on 3TB external drive 1
    100GB free on 3TB external drive 2
My comp is 7 layers. Duration 1:46:00 output is Side by Side
Layer 1- animation with alpha clip. Opacity is keyframed to do a 'dissolve' at the beginning and end of the clip. TC in 53:11, out 1:05:01
Layer 2- comp. stereoscopic 3D. Made from using a camera and Create Stereo 3D Rig. It's a mask of the earth in space. 1:46:00
Layer 3- animation with alpha clip. Opactiy keyframed same as layer 1. Clip aniamtionwas done in the original comp. TC in 1:25:09, out 1:45:10.
Layer 4- animation with alpha clip. Opacity key framed same as layer 1. Clip aniamtionwas done in the original comp.TC in 1:03:2,' out 1:16:10.
Layer 5- animation with alpha clip. Opacity key framed same as layer 1. Clip aniamtionwas done in the original comp.TC in 31:12, out 48:11.
Layer 6- animation with alpha clip. Opacity key framed same as layer 1. Clip aniamtionwas done in the original comp.TC in 6:06, out 21:14.
Layer 7- animation codec clip. 1:46:00 duration.
Now when I attempt to render this out to a ProRes 422 file so that I can join it up with the other footage in Primeire Pro, I basically sit around for 2 hours and then I get a nice little dialog box stating "an output module failed. The file may be damaged or corrupted. (-1610153464).
This is maddening to say the least.
    Other issues
After Effects basically is Pathetically slow in rendering out a ProRes or Animation or any type of mov file. A simple 30sec clip takes 1 hour 47 minutes. All the clip contains is a tiff left eye and right eye and the 3D glasses plug in. That's it. I know my system isn't the biggest out there (I bought what I could afford). But these render times are ludicrous. If I turn of the multiprocessing it doesn't help. I have the openGL turned on. That doesn't seems to do anything. I have it set up to use 10Gb of ram, yet the system says I'm only using 37% of my ram, none of my processors and I have no idea about the graphics card. Am I totally missing something about how after effects actually does rendering? I'm from the old school of Jaleo and Shake and Nuke. However I set out on my own as a freelancer and I can't really afford Nuke (besides I don't like that it doesn't have a timeline). So I purchased Adobe production premium thinking it can do the job I want, however it seems to act like a spoilt brat software. Yes im ranting had really having thoughts of buyers remorse.
If anyone out there has any advice or thoughts on how to get this to work I'd be more than grateful to hear from you.
    Cheers
    James

That doesn't seems to do anything. I have it set up to use 10Gb of ram, yet the system says I'm only using 37% of my ram,
AE only takes what it needs, as do any programs with dynamically managed memory. It's not cramming everything into RAM when it doesn't have to.
    none of my processors
Secondary processors/ cores will only be used, if you enable the sad excuse that is the "Render multiple Frames simultanuously" feature. As Todd suggested, read that article on "optimum" settings. Just keep in mind that what works well for one project may not work at all for the next one when the balance of footage I/O vs. pixel processing vs. memory consumption changes. You're gonna learn to really hate this...
I have no idea about the graphics card
AE doesn't use it for the most part. Even if you enable all of the hardware acceleration features, AE may turn them off behind your back, one such condition being the use of MP rendering. Can't have both. Conversely, MP rendering might be turned off just the same, if specific effects or features are used. That's also expleianed in teh help. Your only chance of halfway benefiting from hardware acceleration is buying some third-party plug-ins that have their own implementations of OpenGL and CUDA. Still, since you use two different cards i nyour system, that may also be problematic...

  • Audio Render Problems Again

I'm having problem again rendering a one hour presentation. If I use Command/R, the dialog box indicates seven or more days. If I highlight the selection I get essentially the same estimated time.
Command/R usually works, but not this time. Audio For Playback is checked.
The DV timeline plays in Quick Time OK.
I desperately need to get this video sent out! I even deleted preferences using the "Preference Manager" program.
    David

All of my lecture video series are recorded in LP 16 bit audio. Each lecture is between 1 to 1.5 hr in length. I have successfully completed 10 of the 23.
Each lecture is sent to iMovie HD and then the timeline.mov is placed into FCE. One other time the timeline audio would not render, so I converted it to DV via MPEG Stream Clip and placed it back into FCE. The lecture I'm having trouble with is #11.
As mentioned, usually Command-R will do the trick in 10 minutes or so, not 6 to 10 days.

  • Boris text render problem

    Hello,
I am having a problem with the Boris Title Crawl text generator. The problem manifests itself as a field dominance problem. Here is a description of how to create the problem:
    1) Create a new project in FCE (I am using FCE 4)
    2) Drag the Boris Title Crawl generator to the timeline
    3) Open the clip in the viewer
    4) Enter some text into the generator
    5) Select the "roll" animation style
    6) Render the clip (IMPORTANT)
Set the zoom in the canvas to 100% and play the clip. Notice the interlace artifacts, particularly in the curved parts of the text. Note that the fields appear to be *out of order*. That is, the upper field should be the lower field and vis-a-versa.
I've been trying to figure out how to fix this problem. Applying a deinterlace filter cleans it up but you loose resolution. I've tried applying the "shift field" filter but this does not clean up the problem, though a setting of "-1" makes a small improvement. This appears to either be a problem with the Boris generator or some field dominance problem. The field dominance for the clip is "not set". Changing this setting does not fix the problem. Field dominance for the sequence is "Upper" which is what is expected for the HD sequence.
    Any thoughts?
    Steve

Tried to reply to your message but it bounced.
The field order does not appear reversed to me. You're seeing the correct interlacing. You're not seeing interlacing on the LT project because it's project properties have the field order set to none. If you set the project properties inside the LT project to upper you will see the same interlacing. Interlacing is correct for 1080i material. If you don't want to render with interlacing set the sequence field dominance to none and re-render it.
    All the best,
    Tom

  • Exporting to mpeg2 using Quicktime compression - render problems

Using FCP Studio 5.1 to export to DVD, FCP keeps asking for file to be rendered even after we have rendered complete movie. There are no green or red bars, so why does FCP not accept this as a full render?
We are exporting using mpeg2 Quicktime compression, not Compressor 2.
    Is there a work-round?

  • Very High Definition render problem

    Hello all!
I have a problem (and searched the forum), but didn't found an answer.
I want shake to render a FileOut Node in a sequence of 7168px x 768px Tiff images.
I created a Cache Node just before the File Out… and after a Window Node but the resulting output is 4096x768.
I really want files with a resolution of 7168x768!

Page 130 of Shake4UsersManual.pdf (for the rest of the answer)
    Working With Extremely High-Resolution Images
These guidelines are specifically for high-resolution images of 4K and 6K. The following discussion is based on the premise that you have a massive amount of RAM for your interactive workstation (at least 1 GB).
Although Shake works with any resolution, there is a default crop on Viewers in the interface of 4096 x 4096 pixels. This protects the user in case a zoom of 1000 is applied to a 2K plate. Instead of trying to render an enormous image, only the lower-left corner up to 4096 pixels is rendered in the interface. This is fine for normal HD or film production, but the cropping takes effect if you read in 6K IMAX plates. This limitation is only in the interface—images rendered to disk are at the uncropped full resolution.
There are two ways you can get around this safety feature.
    Using Proxies
The first is to use proxies with a proxyScale of less than 1. For example, at a proxyScale of .5, you can potentially look at images up to 8K x 8K resolution.
    Changing the Viewer Limits
The other workaround is to change the default Viewer limits by customizing a ui
preference file. Add the following lines:
    gui.viewer.maxWidth = 4096;
    gui.viewer.maxHeight = 4096;
These lines set the maximum resolution to 4K. If you want a larger resolution, enter it here.
For more information on creating and editing these preference files, see Chapter 14, “Customizing Shake.”

  • Render Problem HELP!

I have had this problem before and no matter what I do, I must be missing something because it never gets resolved. I make a new project, I import my video quicktime. I create a new sequence and get the question box asking if I want to change the sequence settings to match the clip because they don't match. I say yes. And yet my clip still needs to be rendered. I compare the sequence settings and the clip settings and as far as I can tell, they are exactly the same. So why do I need to render? This is very frustrating because that should solve the problem. Thank you for any help!
    Also, here are my settings:
    Vid rate 23.98 fps
    Frame Size 853 x 480
    Compressor DVCPRO50 - NTSC
Pixel Aspect NTSC - CCIR 601
    Anamorphic

Thank you! When I looked at the inspector in the QT player, it said
    Format: DVCPRO50, 720 x 480 (853 x 480)
    Current Size: 853 x 480 pixels (Actual)
I have no idea why it says 720 x 480 there and not in FCP in the settings. Do you know? That little hidden bit made all the difference. Once I changed that in FCP in the sequence settings, it doesn't have the red render bar (although the green one is there now.)
I was given the QT by someone else to work with, I thought it was a bizarre format to give me. I copied it from a HD to my computer.
Thank you again, it's always something really simple in the end. I never thought to look at the settings outside of FCP to figure it out.

  • Contrast/Color Correction render problem

So, on certain clips in my timeline when I apply either the Fast Color Corrector or Levels corrector to increase input black, when it is rendered the top line of pixels blinks black per frame. It's really annoying and looks unprofessional, and I am doing a video for a music client. I have tried replacing the clip, replacing the color correction, and nothing seems to be working. Anyone know what would be causing this?

No - the original video is fine, it only does this when I apply a color correction effect. It's only certain clips too, I don't know if it would in some way be related to sub-clipping. It appears to be sporadic since clips that come from the same source file are fine.
Also no - the computer I am using is relatively new and fast, so I haven't been using anything like that.
I have tried everything from re-subclipping to re-importing the footage. Do you think it's just a general problem with my video card? Because occasinally when I render AVI's I get a frame or two of random static...it's just weird that it is sporadic on the clips, but also consistently present on those ones that are affected. Or maybe it is my general cursed luck with technology.

  • QuickTime/After Effects render problem

This is a strange one. When batch rendering from After Effects CS3 to .mov format, some random files will have an upper case file extension, and the rest lower case. Our automated QA process will only deal with lower case extensions, so this is a problem. I don't believe the issue lies with the destination share, since AE projects render there fine using different codecs (Etymonix, for example). Here's our config info. We are still using QT 7.5.5 because of other AE issues with the latest version.
    Clients/render nodes:
    Windows XP Pro SP3
    After Effects CS3 w/8.0.2 patch
    QuickTime 7.5.5
    Batch render app:
    Deadline 3.1 SP2
    File share:
    Isilon OneFS 5.0.0
    CIFS protocol
    thanks

    edwoodjrjr wrote:
I don't believe the issue lies with the destination share,
Actually I do. What seems to happen is that when the file name is short enough, it will end up being one case, when it's longer, in the other. The reason behind this certainly being how some file systems discriminate between long file names and short ones, and not adding a long name, if the file can be described with teh short name (or simply using the same name). Depending on which part your other system reads, this may show up as different case names. Likewise, you could simply be seeing code page/ Unicode conversion issues during network transfers. If only one workstation has a different setting than the others, it might royally interfere with the file naming on the storage, beause then the files will use the name defined by the workstation who requested/ created it (first come, first served). Anyway, this is far too high-endish and specialized stuff you are working with, so I don't think your will get conclusive answers here. I even couldn't find out what CIFS actually does use under the hood, as I strongly believe it's just a wrapper system for another native file system (anything from FAT16 to Linux EXT), so maybe ask the Deadline people and Isilon...

  • AE CC 2014/AME CC 2014 Render Problem

I've been having a strange problem with Media Encoder CC 2014 & After Effects CC 2014. If I try to export a comp either through Media Encoder or directly from the After Effects Render Queue then it only exports audio. If I bring the AE Comp into Premiere and export from there either by sending it to Media Encoder or exporting it directly from Premiere then it exports fine and gives me audio and video.

    dear rick,
of course you are right. for the actual masters i use motionpng or motionjpg . sometimes cineform. for shorter clips tiff-sequences.
but this does not answer my question. in the current case i have to have "master-like" files (for re-encoding) that are still playable in most players and on most devices. therfore h264.
but actually my question is not about which codec to use for different purposes (had long research- and discussion-sessions about that already).
the question is: why do the seemingly same encoders in ae and ame (quicktime with h264 with qualityslider 0-100) deliver so much different results?
i'm trying to figure out, whats the difference between ae-rendering and ame-rendering. how do i deal with rendersettings (effects, proxies etc) in ame? which one is better to use? and why the fudge is there a difference of 1:10 with the same settings in the different solutions????
    thx...

  • Premiere Pro CC - Render Problems

I'm having some trouble using Premiere Pro Creative Cloud. I edited videos using CS6 and CC with the same sequence settings, font settings, and export settings (i.e. YouTube SD widescreen 29.97 preset), and exported with Media Encoder. But the quality of the CC video is much worse then the CS6 video. See attached for my screenshots of my settings. Please help me figure out the Creative Cloud problems. Thanks so much.

Here's the CC render (bad quality):

If our sequence, font, and render settings in both CS6 and CC are the same, why do we get different results in terms of the quality of the renders?

    Hi Matt,
I know that some other customers have complained about the quality of exports, as well. I have heard that 2 pass VBR might give bad quality. Can you try an encode with 1 Pass VBR instead? The quality should be just fine with 1 Pass VBR.
    Thanks,
    Kevin
