Render time.   Is 11 hours render time reasonable for a 90 minute file?

I started with a 120 minute AVI file, trimmed the last 30 minutes off and am rendering it to an identical format AVI file. Is 11 hours render time reasonable?  Have I set something improperly?

  • Time dimension with Hourly base time periods

    Hi all
I need to analyze data at Hour, Day, Month, and Year levels. The data in the fact and dimension tables are at the 'Hour' level with DATE datatype, such as:
    02-SEP-10 10:00:00 AM
    02-SEP-10 11:00:00 AM
To use Time-Series type calculations, I understand that I have to create an OLAP dimension of type 'TIME' (and not 'USER') and map it to the populated relational time dimension table.
    1) Can I have the primary key for 'Hour' level as the actual base level value of datatype DATE (eg. 02-SEP-10 10:00:00 AM) ?
    2) For the END_DATE and TIME_SPAN attributes at the 'Hour' level, what should I use?
The documentation is only available for minimum 'Day' level hierarchies, which allows setting END_DATE and TIME_SPAN to the actual 'Day' value and 1, respectively.
    3) For the END_DATE and TIME_SPAN attributes at the 'Month' level, do I need to supply the last-date-of-each-month and number-of-days-in-that-month, respectively?
Please bear in mind that I am relatively new to Oracle OLAP. Any assistance will be appreciated.
    Cheers.

Thank you Szilard and Adnan for the very prompt and informative responses.
I managed to follow the advice on the oracleolap.blogspot link and created a time dimension with members at Hour level loaded into the dimension in character format: TO_CHAR(hour_id, 'DD-MON-YYYY HH24')
The problem now is the maintenance (loading) of the dimension is taking an abnormally large amount of time (over 1 hour) as opposed to when the members were being loaded in DATE format (5 minutes). The mapping table only as 10,000 entries.
Why is these such a big difference? Is it normal? Is there a way to speed up the maintenance time?
FYI, I have not created any indexes on any of the attributes.
    My platform is:
    11.1.0.7.0 DB
    11.1.0.7.0B Client

  • Each time i log on firefox works ok for about 5 minutes then becomes unavailable

i have logged on with an excellent signal many times in the last week but each time i use the computer to look at pages after about 4 to 5 minutes a page comes up saying server not available

The answer is that Animated GIF files include a Loop Enable Flag as well as a Loop Limit Count. This GIF had a count which should have allowed it to loop for almost 2 hours. But in Firefox it only loops for about 5 minutes.
It appears Firefox is misinterpreting this value to be a Frame Count rather than a Cycle Count.
Is there any Firefox Employees reading this, and can acknowledge this has been added to their Opportunity (a.k.a. Bug) List?

  • TS4185 My Face Time always shuts down after using it for about a minute. Can anybody suggest a way to stop this happening?

Hi. My Face Time continuisely shuts itself down after about a minute of use. Can anyone suggest what might be causing this and how I can sort it out. This only happens on my MacBook Pro and not on any of my other devices.

Creating a new profile and deleting the old one seemed to fix the problem. Why the problem occurred in the first place, is beyond me. But after creating the new profile, restoring all my bookmarks, and reinstalling Flashgot, everything seems to be behaving wonderfully. For anyone else having similar issues, I recommend creating the new profile. It's easy to do, as long as you save your old one, so you can copy all the necessary files to restore your preferences and bookmarks.

  • Can I create a server with Time Capsule, where it would be possible for me to access files from any computer in my house?

I have a Time Capsule 1T, so not sure what gen that would be. But I am in college and have about 5 apple devices that my family uses in our house and it would be nice if we could share files through a network. Can I even be helped?

DropBox is another possibility for sharing files and it is free for the first 2GB of storage.

  • Reasons for multiplexing archive log files

    hi
I would like to try multiplexing the archive log files, but I need to explain it to my boss who is the unofficial DBA. I want to tell her that it is necessary. Are there are really convincing, compelling reasons that one would set up more than 1 archive log file destination?
    Cheers.
    DA

Archives are the thing that protect your data. If you have only one source for them, let's just keep our fingers crossed that nothing ever goes wrong with that source at the same time as something going wrong with the database, for then you will have lost data irrecoverably. So how much data loss is acceptable?
On the other hand, if your original archive destination uses mirrored disks and if it is backed up regularly to tape, and if daily checks that that backup has taken place successfully are made... there's an at least reasonable case to be made not to bother multiplexing the archives: you already have redundancy in depth and the additional archiving destination could well slow down the whole archiving subsystem... and that can translate into problems for LGWR and hence foreground waits suffered by users.
Nevertheless, it is true that assuming you back up your archives nightly, there is always going to be a days'-worth of archives which haven't been backed up yet. Should anything nasty happen to those, you will not be in a completely recoverable position ...and I have seen both parts of a mirrored drive die at about the same time, so that's no guarantee!
If you or your colleague don't mind losing a day's work or if you are betting people and don't mind taking a punt on hardware not failing, then not multiplexing archives is a fair judgement call to make. But if you cannot afford any data loss at all and you want to make sure that it's as guaranteed as you can get that you won't, then multiplexing archives is pretty essential.

  • Why is my computer beeping 3 times then stopping then 3 times again and how do i fix it??

my computer is beeping 3 times then stopping then beeping again. How do I fix it?

Hello! This is the first time I've had a major Problem with my notebook, I hope somebody can help me.
My MacBook Pro with Snowleopard operating system, processor 2.4 GHZ Intel Core I5, apple original RAM 4GB 1067MHz DDR3 is a little bit more than 2 years old.
It started this week as my computer didn´t react to any Keyboard command and the mouse cursor was standing still. So I turn it off and soon on, then it started beeping 3 times and the screen was black. I turn it off, took the ram out and inserted it again, I clean the fans it was very dusty inside.
The next time my Mac was running as usual for about 10 minutes, suddenly the screen faded into grey, I could still see the whole background. There was a message from my computer that I had to turn the computer off with the power Button. Then the same happend again.
And today I turn it on but didn´t check on it for a while, it went into Stand by mode and I couldn´t wake it up, so I had to turn it off again.
As I turn the computer on I press cmd+v and made a screenshot of information that might contain my problem. I don´t understand what is telling me, maybe someone had the same problem and could solve it.
Thank you very much in advance,
    Best
    Rebecca

  • Render time taking 1 hour for 4 seconds

I am trying to render a 4 second clip of 3d text doing a 360° turn, I export in H.264 and have okay computer specs.
    3.04 GHz Quad core
    12 gigs of ram
I'm new to this and want to start exporting more video for a project, but I can't do it with this render time.

What would be a conventional, frame-based codec? Thank you so much for the help!
Uncompressed AVI is one, but the file sizes are going to surprise you. Quicktime with the PNG codec is usually smaller, but still huge. Quicktime with the PhotoJPEG codec is even smaller. Some popular choices that are even smaller are DNxHD and Cineform (either MOV or AVI). They're still going to be much larger than the H.264, but that's okay!
For many (most) professionals, the usual workflow is to render a lossless file (or nearly lossless) out of AE and then use the Adobe Media Encoder or Premiere to create the final deliverable. There are several reasons, but one is that AE is not very good at rendering h.264 files (and there are some very technical reasons for this). Anyway, the AE team deprecated the h.264 rendering in the latest version of After Effects because of it.
In your case, I would suggest rendering into a TIFF sequence (or something similar). This way, if there is a crash or something, you can pick your render up at the last frame it rendered rather than having to start at the beginning. I always do this when I'm doing 3d work and the render is going to be over an hour. Then you can bring that TIFF sequence into Premiere as if it's a video file, put your audio and everything to it, and send your final H.264 render from Premiere.

  • Why my system is taking 4 times or more to render and export? SOS

HAve the latest system installed in the church for video editing. However, for a 30 mins project it takes 4 times or sometimes more to render and export. We are helpless. The following is the system configuration:
    OS                    Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bit (6.3, Build 9600)
    Software           Adobe Pro CC
Processor          AMD FX(tm) - 8320 Eight Core Processor, 3.50 GHz
    RAM                    16 GB
System type          64-bit Operating system, x64-based processor
Graphics Card          AMD RAdeon HD 6670
    MotherBoard     ASUS

    I'm having the same problems.
I believe I have the answer.
Everything was fine until I upgraded to CC.
I built a box to specifically run Adobe products except the video card.
    I have an i7 chip,16 R, 2T, Windows 8.1, 64 bit and AMD Radeon HD 6670 (unapproved video card)
I run a clean box. No 3rd party anything. No add-on apps.
    No hardware changes.
Heres My Current Project: 45 JPG images - one audio track MP3
A 3 minute clip of still images takes 30 minutes to render.
And then nearly 30 minutes to export as an MP4.
It use to run blazingly fast.
I built this new box with an i7 to speed up the processing time as my previous system hardware had become outdated.
Once I built the new system and installed CS6 the Premiere CS6 rendering time was less than 3 minutes for a 3 minute clip.
    Nice. Happy Face.
Since I upgraded from CS6 to the CC version my Premiere CC performance disappeared.
How can this be? I've used Premiere for years.
I explained to support how blazing fast my system ran until recently. One of the tech support persons told me it was a fluke that my system ran so fast. He came to the conclusion that based on with my hardware CC should not have run that fast. And now my slow rendering time is back to where it should be based on my hardware, slow. I was trying to contain my enthusiam knowing I was back to...slow! You know, I'm really patient but after 3 hours on the phone I was transferred to the Photoshop Department. Why? Because the images in my project were most likely corrupted. The very images that were originally imported into PS CC from my iPhone which as one my know... iPhone images on a PC are upside down. I did a 180 on 45 images and re-saved them with new file names as JPG's.
It was determined that I had to do a batch renaming of all the jpg images and re-attach them in Premiere CC.
So we parted ways and I hung up the phone.
This is now my problem. Ok. Fine. It's now determined that I have an unsupported AMD video card. Ok. Fine.
After an hour on Google searching for a new (low end) $500.00 video card the solution came to me!
I'm thinking, we've both this all backwards.
    Here's my serious suggestion:
I think you (Adobe) should offer a "Box of Clouds" based on all of your hardware specifications.
(Cue chorus of the song, "Come Together" by The Beatles... )
Sell and/or Lease to me the entire product - the supported hardware with pre-installed software! (No 3rd Parth Vendors)
I'll never have to hear or worry about my CPU, GPU, CUDA, MPE, 6670, SSE, TD, HD, AMD, ATI or INVIDIA ever again.
This will make my GIGA Hurts feel better and all of us can get back to work!
    Problems solved!
Please send me an Adobe Box with Clouds and I'll be on Cloud 9!
    I Think It Is Genius!
    Ok...back to work...

Your media is stored in Final Cut Events folder > "name of event"  > original media. The Final Cut Events folder is in your movies folder or at the root level of an external drive if you are using one to store your media. Simply open iMovie and under file menu select import movies. Navigate to the original media folder and import your clips to Imovie event library.

  • Every time I attempt to render video Premiere crashes

I'm working on a pretty big project (for me at least) but when I was going to render a sample to send for feedback premiere simply refused and crashed.
It kept doing this every time I attempted to render an output file including ANY of the video tracks but if I disable them all it renders the audio just fine.
    premie pro cc build 7
    h.264
    1920x1080
This project is very light on video but includes a lot of images and motion/transition effects
I had a similair problem last week on a project where I only used one video track and I was able to root out the issue as being a cross dissolve at the very beginning, why it's crashing now though is quite beyond me.
Unlike the error that plagued me that last time around I am able to render video in alternative formats, at least avi works fine.
    FLV does not work
Anyone able to help me out with this?

Not sure what the core issue is (others are reporting similar problems) but if you can render to AVI, then just export a high-quality copy then re-encode to H.264 using Media Encoder (which will chew through very quickly in GPU mode). There won't be any visual difference compared to a direct H.264 encode.

We cant see what you are doing wrong ...so you will have to tell us a lot more and show us some screen grabs of your settings.

  • After Effects and the simple 20 hour render

    Hi,
I have this HD scène that is about a minute in playtime. When it was done it rendered out in about 1 hour and 20 minutes on my Intel Quad Core 2.4 GHz. That seems pretty reasonable to me.
I decided to add some lightwrap and edgeblur for some bad matching cg objects. For this I precomposed transformed layers so I had maybe about 20 preComps. For every preComp I added a matte layer, adjustment layer and light layer. So that's 60 layers. Note that all this is divided over about 10 parent comps (shots) so it's not all in the same comp.
Anyway, don't think so much about it, it hardly changed render time in the preview. Every frame still takes about 10 seconds to show up on screen when there's no cache, which is the same as before and seens reasonable.
But after the changes, render time was 20 hours!
This is ridiculous. It has no crazy stuff at all. Any cg was prerendered in other software and they together didn't even take that long.
I remember I had crazy render times some other time when I had a LOT of precomps. But the internal preview worked just fine then also.
It made me think about After Effect's efficiency so I put my CPU monitor gadget on screen (Windows 7 Pro x64) and it shows that After Effects is only doing a half decent job!
You see that all cores are working. The idle start and first peek is when I loaded the project and started rendering.
    Two questions:
Why is After Effects lazily using between 20 - 70 % of my CPU? There is clearly no HD I/O bottleneck involved, because 20 hours is enough to copy the internet as a figure of speech, and how can I force it to speed up?
Can I get a detailed log or something about what is rendered and how long it takes on a per-layer basis so I can see what is the bottleneck?

    Thanks for this information.
Though partially misunderstood me, pherhaps I said it wrong. Sorry for that.
I am not having 20 lights. This is a relatively simple 2d composition. I added lightwrap: a copy of the background over the middle- and foreground with some glow and holdout to pretend the subject fits in better.
I do a lot of compositing, cg and rendering, and anyone in my shoes would agree one maybe two hours is a reasonable render time for what I am doing. The preview time remained the same or increased by a neglitable amount, but the final render time increased 10 times. That strikes me as odd to say the least.
I have to examine the More Information note from "Information shown for current renders" to see if I can get per-layer rendertimes but it is not mentioned. I will check that on my next render.
