Rendered sequence video is flipped vertically, dimmed and b&w

Hi community!  I searched, but all instances I found of similar behavior were either on much older versions or else had unique circumstances...
I keep seeing odd behavior of my footage in the timeline.  All of my clips begin in AE CS6, which I then export as the default AVI Uncompressed container/codec (no alpha).  I am trying to assemble a rough edit video in Premiere CS6, but when I "Render entire work area" to see my preview playback smooth, the video changes to upside-down and black & white.
In addition, all .mov h.264 clips that I import (which were exported from AE CS6 on PC) are always this way; even before I render them.  To be clear, all of these clips completely normal when played independently in VLC.
I am using Premiere CS6 along with AE CS6.  Both are up to date.  My system is a PC running Windows 7, Intel i7 2600k, ATI 6970 GPU, 16GB Ram...
Thanks for any insight!

The following is a screenshot of my Catalyst info:
In case you can't see it, I'm on version 12.8.  I just recently accepted an update of it.  However I had not used Premiere CS6 prior to doing so; so I have no idea if it worked properly on the previous version.
Additional Details that may help someone resolve:
- All of the clips were created from scratch in AE within 1080p 29.97, square pixel Compositions.  All exports match original comp settings.
- I am using an empty (secondary) 60gb SSD as my scratch disk for both AE and Pr.  I often have to manually empty the AE cache, since AE typically pops up a dialogue box when opening telling me that the cache location is out of space (This is also an issue that I need to properly configure).

  • CS6 - Why is my rendered timeline playing back as black/white and flipped vertically?

This doesn't make any sense. It only happens inside of the preview monitor in Premiere Pro CS6. When my footage isn't rendered yet, it plays back just fine, but when I go to render everything in the time line, it makes everything flipped vertically and black/white. When I export a render to a file, it's completely fine. This only happens in Premiere and not AE or Prelude.
I'm using a PC, Windows 7 64-bit. My computer has quad-core i7 running at 3.8ghz, 16GB of RAM, and a 1GB GPU. I just upgraded from CS4, where I never had any of these issues in Premiere. Thanks!

There have been other messages (not exactly like yours) indicating that CS6 is enough different that you will need to update your graphics card driver
Do NOT let Windows update do this... go directly to the nVidia or ATI site and find the most recent driver for your (un-named) 1Gig GPU

  • Can audio/video settings be in HD and Sequence in SD?

Is it a problem to have your audio/video settings set for HD, and your seqence set for SD?
Is audio/video setting just for new projects? (I think my current project is SD, which is what I want), and I'd like to create a new project in HD.
When my SD project is open, sequences are SD, and audio/video is HD. If the sequence is SD, doesn't that mean that the media files rendered on it are also SD- regardless of what the audio/video settings are?

Umm, in a word, how much do you want to render?
You do know that your clip properties must match your sequence properties otherwise you're in for a world of rendering.
Reading a lot of these posts around here, there's a common conception that it's just a matter of rendering to create high definition video out of standard definition and going back the other way. I'm not sure where this came from other than a lack of understanding about video formats and then subsets of formats within those formats, namely ITU-R 709 (high definition video) and ITU-R 601 (standard definition video).
When you cross formats, you're crossing more than just an aspect ratio and a couple of letters. There's the matter of gamma differences, color space differences, pixel aspect ratio differences and pixel count differences. When you up or down convert video, even on horrendously expensive hardware converters, where are all those extra pixels going or coming from?
GU, if you don't know what video format your current sequence is in now, I would highly suggest some more self-education before you dive into high definition. You can start [here|http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_formats] and [here|http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/tv.htm] or perhaps I'm just getting crotchety in my middle age and expect people do to things properly. These tools are cheap, TV is easy, ain't it?
Good luck with your project. Short answer from me is no, do not travel down your current path, learn how to do things the right way.

  • Final rendering of video is low quality and too bright

Here is the link to my original video clip, the video clip in the project, and the final rendered copy all on my monitor at the same time:

The picture got downsised which makes it harder to see the issue, but here is most of the it:
The final copy is lower quality and way too bright. Noticibly too bright. The clean darks turn into rough gray, and the quality is noticibly lower as well. I have checked the "use maximum render quality" and tried exportiing in AVI and MP4, and nothing is fixing it. Any ideas?

First of all, what type of file do you need?  If you're looking for lossless quality then I would suggest exporting a quicktime file with the Animation codec or some other lossless codec.  However, these type of files are huge and they might not play back on your desktop.  But, if you're just going to put this video on the internet when you're finished with it then I would suggest starting with one of the Youtube or Vimeo H.264 presets and modifying it to match your clip.  It still won't look as good as your original, but you can't expect miracles when working in SD and exporting to H.264, which is a very lossy codec to begin with.  If you want to try exporting to a lossless Quicktime or AVI, then change the settings so they look something like this:

  • Sound import to 25 fps sequence is always out of sync and need rendering!!!

Anyone know why an aif sound file from Pro Tools imported to 25 fps sequence is always out of sync and needs rendering? It is like FCP is converting it to another freq. when it is 48k already! I do this all the time with NTSC and 23.98 projects, what is up with the 25 frame seq.??
    Thanks, Mark

Resample in Soundtrack Pro or convert in QuickTime Player.
Your location says you are in LA. Why are you working in in PAL?
I know that things need to be at 48K this would not matter anyway if it was 44.1 FCP would do the conversion and not make it out of sync in an NTSC Timeline, but a PAL timeline FCP screws with the sound file. The files came from pro Tools, the industry standard should mixing.
I put them through Sound Track Pro and it did not help.
LA is the entertainment center of the world, we send project all over the world.

Yes, I know. I have been working with HDV for some time. I am wondering why it doesn't render when it needs to.. the red and bright-green lines are above, and I've set the render settings such that ANYTHING I highlight and hit apple-R will render. But its not rendering at all.

  • Flip Horizontal and Flip Vertical

    Hello Adobe,
Bridge implements rotate 90 cw, 90 ccw, and 180. Having these functions available as a right-click / cmd-click context menu is extremely convenient.
However, what about the companion flip horizontal and flip vertical operations ? This is a very common thing to want to do - particularly when working with scanned transparency images. Adobe Lightroom implements this - I belive.
Bridge team, can you add this small feature please ?
    Sincerely,

You can do multiple photo flips in Develop if you turn AutoSync on.  Just make sure to turn it back off as it can cause all kinds of accidental messes

are you using the iOS camera? if you do, visit your apple store for further help, sounds like a hardware problem.
    or:
hold home and lock button pressed until your iphone restarts.
if that didn't help, visit your apple store.
if you are not using the iOS camera, delete that app.

    Hey Oprion,
Thanks for the question and congrats on your new iPhone 5c. The orientation of your iPhone will depend on the application you are using. For example, most of the built in applications only support the three main orientations (Horizontal, Vertical, Horizontal), whereas the Voice Memo’s application will operate “upside down” for easier access to the microphone.

  • Dimming and Brightening Video

I have used my iSight without any problems until recently. I am now periodically getting dimming and brightening of the screen during an iChat. I thought it might be the connection since I just started using an iMac magnetic holder when I recently got an iMac G5. This connector seems to make it more difficult to get a good firm connection. When I unplug the iSight and then plug it back in, it seems to work for a while, and then the problem happens again. Any ideas how to fix this?
    Thanks -

I suggest you check your iSight using the hints in the How To Ensure Your iSight Is Functional FAQ.
If your iSight is faulty, see the Where to Find Help for iSight? FAQ.
If it is NOT faulty, consider the suggestions in the Improving Your iSight Picture FAQ.
If you think the problem is with iChat AV 3 instead of your iSight, this may give you Help for iChat AV 3 Problems.
If your problem began after installing the recent Security Updates, try re-installing that. (I suggest permissions repairs before and after the re-install.)

  • FCP 7 crashes when choosing "yes" to changing of sequence settings for Flip

I've been doing quite a bit of work with the Flip HD video camera recently. I grew tired of rendering everything, so decided it was time to finally upgrade from FCP 5 to FCP 7.
However, FCP 7 crashes every time I try to lay down video files from the Flip camera onto a timeline.
Upon laying the files down onto the timeline, I am prompted with the message asking if I want to change the sequence settings to match the video. I click yes and immediately get "General Error" and FCP crashes.
I tried trashing the preferences. same result.
I tried updating FCP 7 to FCP 7.0.1. same result.
I even tried updating fixes for iMovie as if that would have anything to do with it. same result.
I'm currently rendering it out the same way I had been in FCP 5.
    Any advice or ideas?

AVC is h.264, which is not a work-able editing format, it's a delivery format (and a consumer video camera acquisition format suitable for holiday videos going straight to YouTube), that's why you've been having to render all the time in FCP 5.
Now you're in FCP 7 and it's asking if you want to change the sequence settings to match the video, but there is no sequence setting to match AVC/h.264 so it's freaking your computer out. Still, it shouldn't crash, but that's the problem i believe.
You need to correct your work-flow by transcoding your media into something usable like ProRes, or you can choose not to change your sequence settings, and render the timeline as you have been doing in the past.

  • Weird problem: video that flips upside down after editing

I have just edited a story for an emagazine. The strange thing is after I have gotten all the transitions completed and the whole thing rendered the video will play back and flip the video after the transitions on parts of the story. For example, I have a fade in at the start of the story. The video fades in fine then flips. The video then flips back to the proper angle when my title drops into the package. Then when the title disappears the video flips once again until the first soundbyte. The soundbyte stays the proper angle as well. I'm not sure what the problem is. If you know the solution I would really appreciate the suggestion. Thanks in advance for any and all help, too!

The original material is video shot on my iPhone 4. I've edited it in Final Cut Pro in the past and had no problem. I'm sure it might be something I missed. But I can't figure out what the setting would be since there is no difference in what I edited shot on the iPhone 4 and what I shot now.
Thanks again for your help, too!
