Rendering 1:1 slow in LR 3.6

Hello I've just upgraded from LR 2.7 to LR 3.6 in the last month or so.
I am running Windows 7 64bit professional and have Photoshop CS4 on my machine.
Before the upgrade rendering 1:1 previews wasn't exactly fast but it wasn't too bad. I've just been rendering 1:1 previews for just 550 images and it has taken over 45 minutes to do so.
That seems "normal" now. LR 3.6 seems to be slower at working. (And yet I hear that LR 4 is even slower. Thankfully I am not in a hurry to upgrade to that.)
I heard that using the second screen with Shift+E or Shift+G etc can slow down rendering so before I render I now close that second view. I have not noticed that this makes any difference: rendering still seems to take forever.
The machine isn't exactly under-specified. Intel Core2 Duo E83400 @ 3.00GHz, 8GB of memory and disk space aplenty.
Any suggestions/ideas?

It is funny what we each think of as "relatively old". Three years since I purchased the PC. It works fine for everything else that I use it for but the change between LR 2 and LR 3 has been quite marked in terms of rendering speed. I would say it is far more than a doubling. If it were only a "little bit" longer I wouldn't mind but this is distinctly annoying. The images are off a 5D MKII so 21MP.
As for keywording as the first one is available that makes an assumption that this issue is at import. Indeed I keyword in bulk at import via metadata preset and typing in keywords so I don't have to touch the images at all until they are ready to review.
Yes import rendering is slow but in this case I am working in develop mode. I had just gone through and done batch white balance adjustments. At that point my practice is to re-render the images before I do fine w/b adjustments and adjustments to exposure and black point, this means that there is less delay between opening an image and it "loading" ready to work on. However the huge delay that it causes is making me re-think this and possibly suffering the "loading" delay instead.
Most of the changes for LR2 to LR3 have been good (the notable exception being slideshow which is no longer useable). This however is not a good change.

but our productive-server (the same CF-version as the local testserver) is working very slow, and when I say slow I mean minutes not a view seconds more.
I have no idea where this discrepance is comming from, especially as we could observe the pdf-rendering on fusion-reactor witch makes it rather improbable that - as we first thought - our firewall is slowing down the process.
does anyone out there has an idea where the problem could be located or had someone in this forum experienced a simular pdf-pitfall?
    thanks for yout efforts.

Hi Guys I work with a lot of pdf files with being a student at uni and not sure these tips might help.
Try an app called skim which is free it handles pdfs nicely and looks similar to the preview app.
Also if a pdf is slow to scroll try selecting all the pages goto file print.  Then on the bottom left hand side of the print window select pdf and then save as pdf.  I have found on some pdfs (usually the ones in black and white and look like a photo copy) using the the print save as pdf option has then allowed me to view a pdf fine in the preview app without any issues.  Hope this is useful.
I suspect its to do with pixels per inch or dots per inch of the document.

  • Rendering speed is slowing down during process, almost up to freeze

    Hello there!
First of all, I'm a new person to After Effects. I bet I just doing something wrong, but anyway I would like to ask an advice how to fix my issue because googling such subject won't solve it.
    The point is following:
I rendering 120-minutes long video for YouTube. It almost static with no effects, just with a few simple fade-in/out transitions on couple of layers. You can find an example of such video on YouTube by this link: Daniel Lesden - Rave Podcast 056: guest mix NitroDrop (Israel) - YouTube (for some reason, specifically this video was rendered successfully previously).
Process is going very well at first, 1 minute of playback rendering for about 30 seconds, so first hour of the video rendering for 30 minutes.
The problem starts at about 70% of overall progress: it start to slowing down, and then goes to 1 frame rendering for 1 second. As you can imagine, it's a pain for such long videos, it will take a days to finish last 20-30%.
Composition and render settings are following:
    Size: 1280 x 720 px
    FPS: 30
    Format: Quicktime
Codec: ProRes 422. I've also tried: Animation, Photo JPEG, another ProRes and even H.264, but outcome was the same.
    Output module settings screenshot:
    Multi-processing settings:
On this point I have to say that I've tried many different options with amount of CPU, RAM or with Multi-processing option turned off completely, but in the end it all was the same.
After Effects version: CC 2014 (still on trial version, but it shouldn't be a problem since Adobe don't have any limitations for trial versions as far as I know).
    Computer and OS information:
Any advices please? I'll very appreciate every possible solutions.

"open AE preferences>General then move to the bottom tab and set AE to purge every 10 frames or so"
    — I've set this parameter to 10 as suggested, and here are the last render queue results:
First 60-minutes video rendered superb good for 1 hour 17 minutes.
Second 120-minutes video goes really badly: it took 8 hours to render about quarter due to error. Here is what I found in the error log: "There is an error in background rendering so switching to foreground rendering after 246 frames completed out of total 216000 frames. (26  ::  142)".
Later I've tried to render second video again, and it was great almost till finish: 1 hour 45 minutes has been rendered for less than an hour. But then it suddenly slowed down (as described in the original post), so I had to stop it. I installed Memory Dig and "optimized" memory before rendering and once during process, but it didn't help. In the end I just rendered last 15 minutes of the video (with no issues) and just merged it into 120-minutes long file using Video Joiner. Pretty sad method, although.
On a third attempt everything was fine until rendering stops by a new error in popup window: "After Effects error: internal verification failure, sorry! {could not find itemframe we just now checked in}".
So the original problem still wasn't solved yet unfortunately.

  • Premiere Pro CC 2014 renders are painfully slow.

Running CC 2014 on a brand new iMac: 3.5 GHz Intel Core i7, 32 GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M 4096 MB.
I have a 2.5 minute timeline with many dynamic link clips back to simple After Effects CC 2014 comps. Rendering in this timeline is MIND-BOGGLINGLY slow.
Video Rendering and Playback Renderer is set to Mercury Playback Engine GPU Accelerated (CUDA)
And in Preferences > Memory> I have optimized rendering for "Performance".
My Sequence is using Apple Pro Res 422 as my video preview codec with Maximum Bit Depth and Render Quality selected.
    Renders should be screaming.
Is anyone else experiencing this? Have I done something stupid in my set up?

Hi Kevin.  Thanks for response.  Yes, acceleration is enabled.  Not CUDA as I'm running on a ATI Radeon HD 5870.  See screenshot below.
Also have a thread specific to my issue here: Dramatically slower encode/render times from Premiere Pro CC 2014 via both AME 2014 and direct export via PP
If you get a chance to look through it, I'd appreciate it very much.
    Thanks!

  • Webpage rendering is very slow on max (os10.4.x; firefox 3.6.10) This is a recent development. Rendering on Vista PC is very fast. Why?

In the past 3 days website rendering on my mac is very slow (25 sec to render NYTimes page). This happens on 2 macs (os 10.4.x; firefox 3.6.10) and second mac is (os 10.5.x and firefox 3.6.10). Started recently. Most webpages take 15 to 25 seconds to render. Onsame network a pc laptop renders in 3 sec. What might the problem be?

  • Rendering is really slow on my new rMBP

    Hi everyone!
So I bought a new retina MacBook Pro with the following specs: Intel i7, 8GB Ram, 256 SSD HD and NVIDIA GT 650m 1GB
It's the first time I have a powerfull machine and when rendering some twixtor animation in AE, rendering goes pretty slowly. I mean it' s a £2000 laptop with pretty good specs, shouldn't it be faster? Anyway I can accept that issue to a certain level.
But if I drag my original clip in my composition (without any effects/modifications applied) and try to scroll through to see where to start my effects, it doesn't play the video at its original fps. Is that normal?
Are there any software options I can select to push for better performance?

Thank you EVERYONE for the constructive replies! Really appreciate it!

There could be a lot of reasons why the render times are slow.  How slow are we talking?  Third Patry Plug-ins often take a long time to render.  Also After Effects never plays at the original fps without using the RAM Preview button.  Basically we need to know a lot more to help you.
Well that is good to know! I didn't know about the RAM preview until you mentioned it!
I've just tried it and for a 60fps clip (no effects added to it), it plays it at around 30fps compared to 25fps with regular play/pause.
    I'm using:
    AE CS5 v10.0.0.458
    OSX mountain lion 10.8
    2.3Ghz Intel i7-3615QM (4 cores)
    256Gb SSD Hard Drive
    8GB 1600Mhz DDR3
    NVIDIA GT 650M 1024Mb

Just because you paid what seems to be a lot of money, does not mean you have a very powerful machine; it just means you spent money. As much as I love Apple products, I find them to be somewhat overpriced for the amount of power you get. Not to mention that a notebook computer, no matter the brand, is always far inferior to a desktop machine at the same price point.
I agree with you; desktops with always smash laptops. But the specs I have are pretty good for a laptop. This is what we're concentrating on here.
"Slow" is a relative term. Twixtor can be a pretty render-intensive effect. Is this slower with the same project on your MacBook Pro than it is on another machine or is this the first time you've tried it?
Well it's true that I didn't try with other effects so I might be panicking for nothing. I'm comparing the rendering times with my 3 year old laptop:
    AE CS5.5 v10.5.0.253
    Windows 7 64bit
    2.1Ghz Intel Pentium (dual core)
    4GB
    300GB 5400rpm
    GPU: Mobile Intel 4 Chipset
You can see that the RAM is double, the processor is much more powerfull and having a SSD HDD over a regualr 5400rpm one, is a massive upgrade!
Also, you didn't list your processor speed, but you don't really have a very powerful machine. I mean, it's probably pretty good for a notebook (although, a lot of processing power may go into running that cool display.) And I say "probably pretty good for a notebook" because you haven't even said how many cores your processor even has. The max you could have in the i7 is 4, but you might only have 2. I don't know the specs on the new MBP, but a professional motion graphics workstation is likely to have 8, 12, or more. What you get in any notebook can never compare to a proper desktop workstation.
Well I'm confident enough to say that an i7 is one of the best processors you can get in a laptop atm. This one - 2.3Ghz Intel i7-3615QM - has 4 cores (and they each run 2 threads at a time). And the display doesn't hit the CPU that bad. The ram and GPU do work a little harder tho.
And I'm not here to compare desktops with laptops. My workstation has to be on a laptop. I work on yatchs and a desktop is irrelevant for me right now. So I'm looking at how to make rendering more efficient regardless of how slow other tasks (outside AE) might be.
Yes; there may be settings you can tweak to make AE render quicker. Turn off multiprocessing and see if it's faster or slower. Then try tweaking some of the other settings in the memory and multiprocessing and testing. There are many factors that influence rendering speed and there is no "correct" setting in there.
I will try all of the options mentioned above, hope that makes a difference or at least makes me understand how the software interacts with the hardware.

Twixtor is known to be a slower renderer due to the complex computations it does when creating frames.
Well like I said above, I do realise now I haven't actually tried any other effects. Good to know Twixtor might be the main reason and not the hardware it self!
I'm just really supprised AE cant playback a clip at its orignal frame speed even tho the clip hasn't been modified.

  • Why is connection speed and page rendering so much slower in FF 3.6.13?

After installation of the 3.6.13 upgrade, website connection and page rendering speed became significantly slower than in all previous versions. I searched the knowledge base and Forum and found this post:
    http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/668695#answer-108852
After changing settings as described in the post, speed was easily more than doubled.
I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced the slowdown in connection and rendering speed with 3.6.13. And also why, if the settings worked so well for me, they aren;t standard in FF?

  • Wanted to know why Type rendering is very slow in Photoshop cc latest Version.?

    Hello Adobe community.
    Please answer my this Question.
Whenever i start a Photoshop>open new>document by taking type it automatically slows down the rendering of type tool about 2-5 minutes. when its again when i take the type tool and want to change anti aliasing or font same problem. And for your information i am unable to change the anti aliasing to smooth/crisp/ or strong it remains the Mac.

  • For those with pixel rendering issues and slowness issues

For anyone who doesnt know these little details when designing in Catalyst, I thought I would share and hopefully ease some peoples frustrations. Lets kick off with pixel issues.
You have either vector, raster, or components that are either: not aligning with everything else around it, even though it has the same X/Y value, the rounded corners of a rectangle vector object are distorted, or anything else you have experienced with pixel distortion or pixels just not lining up properly. Here is the issue. When you drag and drop an object from the library, wireframe components, or draw a new shape, it can have a decimal level pixel value. It does not say this in the property inspector though. So you may have a rectangle at a listed X/Y of 10,15 but it could actually be 10.3, 14.9. To fix this you have to type in a new value of at least 1 number higher or lower. Deleting the value and typing the same number in doesnt do anything. Neither does moving it with the arrow keys in hopes of it moving it to a whole pixel value. The arrow keys move by 1 pixel (or 10 if holding down shift). This should take care of most of your problems.
Now you may still have problems with the corners of rounded rectangles if you converted it to an Optimized Vector Graphics. For you Flash Pro users, from what I can tell, using "Optimize Vector Graphics" is basically the same as (in Flash) converting a vector shape into a MovieClip and in the property inspector, checking the "Cache as Bitmap" box. That option has Flash create a bitmap version of the vector shape so that it will not be re-drawn every frame, which is what the Flash player does with vector objects. So because it is converting your vector into raster, it kinda has issues with rounded corners when you have a stroke on the shape and pretty much only if you have a stroke. If you take the stroke off, and use Optimize Vector Graphics, you shouldn't have that problem anymore. But what if you needed that stroke? Simple, duplicate that shape, change its fill color to what you want the "stroke" color to be, increase its size by 2 pixels on the width and height for every number of thickness that you wanted with the stroke, and then set the X/Y of the "stroke" rectangle to a pixels less for whatever the "thickness" of your stroke is.
    Example:
    Rectangle - width:20, height:10, desired stroke thickness:2, X:10, Y:10
    Rectangle Stroke - width: 24, height:14, X:8, Y:8
    Rectangle - width:100, height:30, desired stroke thickness:1, X:15, Y:27
    Rectangle Stroke - width:102, height:32, X:14, Y:26
It wont look perfect but its pretty close if you do this and then draw a rectangle beside it with a real stroke. And if you still want to use Optimize Vector Graphics on it, just group the two rectangles together and then use Optimize on the group and no more distorted corners. This also applies to vector shapes in Flash Pro.
Lastly to talk about the slowness of Catalyst. You may or may not have read the posts from Adobe employees, but I can tell you that having fewer states helps with the responsiveness of it, but so does using the Optimize Vector Graphics as much as possible. I am working in a large scale project, and just from me converting all my vector background shapes, which was around 13 used across 6 main states, it helped significantly with Catalyst being more responsive for me.
Hoped this long post helped some people with any similar issues you might be having.

I noticed with my Charge phone that when I get a call the FIRST ring is highly muted (quite soft) and then all rings after that are full volume.
I wish that even the first ring was load (full volume) but I accept the fact that that is how GB 2.3.6 works.  Anyone know how to change this?
    Ya can't win 'em all.

  • Rendering video VERY SLOW i7 MBP

I have a pretty good MBP i7 with 8GB ram.
When rendering a video in Final Cut 7, it takes HOURS to complete.
The video I'm currently working on has litterally 3 layers.
    1: Image
    2: Looping .mov file
    3: audio file.
ANY idea why this would take FOREVER to render?
    Thanks guys!

I have a .mov file at about 9 seconds looping for around 5 minutes.
I have a PNG file on TOP of that the whole time. Just a static image.
And I have a audio track below it.
    Sequence range from 5-6 minutes.
    Here are the shots:

  • Rendering is so slow

Hi, I've started a thread earlier about an issue with M2TS videos. But now it's affecting all types of videos...
The problem is that when I render any H.264 footage in 720 (typically 10 minutes long) with a simple effect (i.e. sharpen), it will take Media Encoder 5+ hours to render the whole video with this sharpen effect. Same problem with any other effect. I've also tried rendering with AAE, but it's a lot worse.
However, if I don't apply any simple effect. Just an original H.264 video and when I render it, it will take 10 minutes or less to finish.
So, why is this happening? Oh, I also have another issue. Sometimes when I launch any CC program, it crashes instantly but if I re-launch it, it will open fine.
    My PC specs:
Intel Core i7 2600k (clocked at 4.3 GHZ)
16GB RAM (clocked at 1333mHZ frequency)
    3 HDDs and 1 Samsung SSD (120gb).
AMD Radeon HD 6970 (Black Edition)
    Z77X-UD3H motherboard (latest BIOS version).
    700 watts PSU
All of my CC programs (Premier Pro, AAE, etc.) are on the latest updates.
    Things I have already tried:
Completely disabled indexing for my SSD (since it's where Windows 7 and CC programs / plugins are installed).
    Moved videos to my SSD.
Any solution would be appericated.... I'm desperate to fix this and complete my projects quickly before the deadline...
EDIT - This has never happened before... until this week... And the same problem happened when I was on CS6.

Sorry, I'm the same user as Mark8X. I just changed my name.
I use Windows 7 (on latest updates of course.)
    I use ESET Smart Security.
Yes, all of my CC are on latest updates.
I don't have much other applications installed.
When I uninstalled the ESET software completely (by using thier cleaner tool), the problem still remains.
I tested my RAM sticks by using memtest86 and the result said "Pass complete, no errors, press Esc to exit":
    http://imageshack.com/a/img834/8722/pyfb.jpg
I even re-installed W7 and CC only. At that time, all of my hardware drivers were updated (I installed them via a usb stick). The rendering speed problem still remains in CC. It's not just CC, CS6 is the same.
I tested the speed of my SSD, and the result looks fine:
    http://imagizer.imageshack.us/a/img835/6636/544x.jpg
I tried changing the settings in my Multi processing but the problem still remains:
    http://imageshack.com/a/img843/9408/jn5b8.jpg
So, my RAM, SSD and Video Card definitely ruled out.
Is it my CPU? My motherboard (something to do with I/O bandwidth)?
Actually! I was wrong about my 700watt. I'm actually using a 650watt Corsair one (one of the good ones).
Note that I only have 1 SSD, which brings me to another question: what's the best way for me to improve performance? put cache files on SSD. Put source footage on the same SSD and only render it to one of my fastest HDDs? I've found out that my E: (regular 3 TB HDD) is the fastest out of my other HDDs. All of my HDDs aren't hybrids. What's the best way?
A few days ago, I've had even purchased a GTX 780. I know that it won't speed up the normal renders (non-3d ray tracing) but still...
I may be wrong but from what I read, it'd be ideal to have 2 SSDs (one for cache, another one for rendering footage to). But I cannot afford to buy another SSD at the moment...
Ok, here's my updated (only GPU changed) and corrected spec:
    i7 2600k @ 4.6 GHZ **
    16GB Dual-Channel DDR @ 800MHZ (I think I overclocked it to 1666mhz) - 9-9-9-24 **
    Z77X-UD3H MOBO
    GTX 780
    650WATT Corsair PSU
    Samsung SSD 830
    3TB Seagate
    3TB Western DIgital
    1TB Samsung
Even when I change them back to stock speeds, the same problem still remains.

  • Renders are super-slow. Have to re-render after each edit.

Is my computer not compatible with Premiere Pro CC?
    Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4200U CPU @ 1.60GHz 2.30GHz
    RAM 4GB
    64-bit processor
    Windows 8

That's not much power for today's media.

  • Quality changes after rendering/speeding up/slowing down a clip in FCP 6

I use mpegstreamclip to get my canon 7d footage into FCP. Everything looks fine until I render it.
I set my mpegstream clip settings to apple pro res, full quality, 1920x1080 (unscaled), 30 fps.
What am I doing wrong here?

I'll need more info to narrow down on the problem.
When you play it in the timeline, everything plays fine, right?
What format did you digitize? MiniDV?
    What timecode is changing?
If you Export as quicktime movie, there is no timecode.
If your refering to the timecode in the browser, make sure your looking at the MEDIA START & END (Not the in & out)
When your refering different footage, are you speaking of a completely different shot from your footage? Or is the cut just off?
    Check this setting:
Goto menu bar: SEQUENCE SETTING; click render control tab.
check on all boxes. set all to 100%. Codec=SAME AS SEQ
In the timeline, make sure all the tracks are on GREEN. (The bubble on the far end left)
Test some of the media files in iMovie or quicktime to see if they're corrupted in some way.
If there is no fix, you may need to re-install the app.

  • KDE : slow font rendering

    Hi everyone !
I'm completely new to Arch (coming from Ubuntu) and was really amazed at how fast my system could get and how easy it was to set it up.
I only have one problem left (apart from the missing japanese fonts) :
When anti-aliasing is turned on (in KDE), fonts rendering gets really slow. It can be noticed when selecting a big chunk of text with the mouse, in Konqueror or Kate : you can feel it takes some time. Or when switching tabs in Konqueror. Those are definitely much faster in Opera and Firefox.
However, with anti-aliasing turned off, it is almost instant, as it should. But it looks really awful (in general, I have much trouble getting a good font rendering in linux. Probably because of my 19" LCD that only reached 1280x1024)
Do you have any idea ? My config is : nvidia geforce 6600, proprietary drivers, athlon 64 3200+. I tried some MS fonts and the DejaVu font.
Just in case, you may see my xorg.conf, below.
THANKS EVER SO MUCH for reading this far I think my problem may concern many other newbies like me
