Rendering a Low Rez  QT of my 2 Hr Movie

Hello Board,
A couple of months ago I had my movie mixed and all was well. Recently I did some cuts and adjustments. The sound designer/mixer needs me to render a low rez QT of the new version and give it to him so that he can sync the old mix against the new video.
He says he needs a low rez QT movie that includes the sound at 16/48, and needs the file to be 2 gigs or less.
My movie is standard mini DV.
Does anyone have any suggestions on a Compressor or Quick Time Conversion setting that will accomplish this?
Thanks,
Lin

Settings for FCP:
1. File > Export Using QT Conversion
2. From this window click the Setting Popup menu.
3. From here choose "Custom..." At the bottom of the long list.
4. A new window will popup allowing you to choose your custom settings.
5. Make sure you're in the General Tab.
6. In the Aspect Ratio popup menu (the first one)
7. Choose the 2nd one from the top. "Multimedia Large (4:3)"
8. It will give you screen size of 320x240
9. You can choose "Custom" from that same popup menu and choose your own aspect ratio.
10. In the Audio area of this window. Choose your settings 16-bit and 48KHz.
11. Now you have a small video, with good audio.

  • Images too low-rez

When I place an image in the CS4 version it's fine but the same image in CS6 is low-rez. What gives?

The layout file, minus photo, was created in CS4. After opening it in CS6 I then placed a photo and got the jaggies. Did not move the photo after placing it. My guess is that CS6, being a new installation, was settling in. (That's a technical term.) In any event it's working smoothly now, no need for an extra linking step with other photos that I'm placing.
    Thanks for your help, Peter.

  • Low-rez or no thumbnails in Cover Flow & Icon views!

Cover Flow used to display sharp and clear high-resolution jpeg previews, but now it display either low-rez previews for most or nothing at all for some. In Icon view, the Finder used to be able to generate thumbnails for jpeg files that don't have icons, but now many jpeg files are just blank in Icon view.
Does this have anything to do with the newer updates?

This problem hit me suddenly about two days ago. Can't seem to fix it. Haven't tried rebuilding Spotlight index yet, trying to avoid it, but that might solve the issue. Perhaps before I leave for the day that's what I'll do, and see how things are in the morning.
FYI, others have this issue as well:

  • Images very low rez

I did a small test slide show in iPhoto of images from Aperture and they look extremely low rez.in the preview. Then I exported to iDVD and they still look low rez. In Aperture there 16bit raw files. How can I be sure they will be of a higher quality?
    Thank You

You are probably using the display (Thumbnail) images rather than the original hi res photos - probably the Aperture forum would be a better place to ask about Aperture questions - iPhoto is using what you give it from Aperture - not really an iPhoto question

  • Random low rez icons in Dock, Switcher, and Finder?

Is anyone else getting randomly appearing low resolution app icons since updating to 10.6 or 10.6.1? They change to low rez jaggy fuzzy wherever they're loaded from the system. So they might appear in the Finder, the Dock, the Switcher, or in odd places like the Time Machine hard drive icon.
Sometimes they're normal and sometimes they switch to low.. I can't tell why.

Found some information on this Apple thread.
    Also here at MacFixIt.
None of the solutions presented in either forum are permanent fixes, only temporary. Restarting usually makes the problem go away for awhile, and is the easiest less detrimental solution.
Hopefully Apple will come up with a fix soon.

  • Rendering and Low System Memory issues in PE9.

    Hello again.
    N.B: I am an ex-PE3 user.
I am having a few issues with PE9.
    1. My main issue is that I am regularly getting the 'low system memory; please proceed with caution' message. I have googled it and read people's suggestions, but am not sure where to go from here. I have tried saving my file under another name, but am already up to '....E' (fifth) version of the file I've been working on this afternoon. The total time of the project is only approx 45 min's, although I will say that this 'low system memory' issue seems to be worst today, as I'm adding more still photos.
    2. One of the suggestions made by Steve G on one of the forums was to make sure projects are regularly rendered. When I hit 'Enter' to render, the little render window pops up for a split second and then disappears. And I would assume from the red line above my timeline that my file is not rendered.
    3. When I switch to 'Sceneline' view, my horizontal scroll-bar across the bottom will only drag SO far (to a certain point in my project; but definitely not to the end of my project. It is really frustrating. I sometimes can fix it by flicking between Sceneline and Timeline, but I have to do this multiple times... and it seems a ridiculous way to do it.
It would be fantastic if someone could help me with these issues, please!

    Hi everyone:
    Thankyou for all your suggestions.
Sorry, Bill, but both those links give me an error message. I was all set to read them, but they won’t work, unfortunately.
What is meant by ‘page file managed’, sorry? And do you mean ‘hard disk drives’ by HDD, or does it stand for something else in this context? I’m not sure what you mean by how do I have them allocated. Again, apologies for my ignorance. I do have only one HDD, but it is partitioned.
The image sizes all seem to have a depth of 24, but vary in dimensions – I can see that some are quite large (around 3 mg in size, with dimensions of 4288x2848, for example). Is the actual mg-size relevant, or only the physical length and width?
I have tried to look at the frame size of my project, but it seems to be greyed out. In pale digits, there is 720x576 written.
Just before I sent this, I thought of one other thing to try first.
I tried starting a ‘New Project’. I then inserted just 6 still photos, for experimentation purposes. I then hit ‘Enter’ and the Rendering window came up and appears to have rendered correctly. So I then tried looking at one of my other projects (that hadn’t previously been rendered) and tried to render it. In this case, as in for the project I am currently working hard on, the Rendering window flashes up for about ¼ of a second and then disappears.
    What is going on???

What is the Frame Size of your Project?
How is your Page File Managed, and what is the size? This http://forums.adobe.com/thread/632449?tstart=30 will give you some background and tips.

    Hi everyone!
My Imac (Intel CoreDuo, early 2006, 24") present same problems - vertical color lines, kernel panic and finally DEATH-. Just after reading this
    http://discussions.info.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1580232&start=435&tstart= 0
I call Apple and a very nice guy tell me, Apple extend warranty for vertical lines problem, but only in 17" machines! I can´t believe it!
I´m pretty desperate. Someone with 24" Imac could solve the problem calling Apple?
I live in Spain, the serial number of my Imac is W8642**GN

  • Adobe premiere elements 11 rendering at lower bit rate than i select

Hi, I'm using Adobe Premiere Elements 11, 64-bit Windows.
I keep trying to render a project at a bit target bit rate of 10.05 MB/S (.h264 1080p MP4) but the resulting .mp4 file keeps coming out with an average bit rate of around 7000kb instead of 10,000kb...
The source files used in the project are 17mbs..
    Other projects are rendering fine.
Would be very grateful for some advice.
Edit: Now realised it's happening to a substantial fraction of my projects. I am being very careful to select the right render settings

    Sminty
    Please confirm
    Premiere Elements 11
    a. Export as
    Publish+Share
    Computer
    AVCHD
    with presets = MP4 H.264 1920 x 1080p30
and, under the Advanced Button/Video Tab of the preset, what are your setting for Maximum Bitrate to go along with the 10.5 Mbps Target Bitrate (the units there are Mbps or Mb/second which is megabits per second).
    b. I believe that each encode needs to be looked at separately.
    One example...Original AVCHD.mov file, 1920 x 1080p29.97, 69.9 MB, 12.579 seconds, and Bitrate Overall 46.6 Mbps and Bitrate 45 Mbps.
I decided that i would try for an AVCHD.mp4 export whose properties read out would include bitrate 10.5 Mbps.
    I selected Publish+Share/Computer/AVCHD with Presets = MP4 H.264 1920 x 1080p30, and, in the Advanced Settings set Bitrate as VBR 2 Pass
Target 10.5 Mbps and Maximum 15 Mbps.
The result was an AVCHD.mp4 1920 x 1080p30 file with a Bitrate Overall 10.8 and Bitrate 10.6 Mbps.
    Second example..Original AVCHD.mov file from another camera, 1920 x 1080p30, 24.0 MB, 14.14 seconds, and Bitrate Overall 14.4 Mbps and Bitrate 12.2.
    I selected Publish+Share/Computer/AVCHD with Presets = MP4 H.264 1920 x 1080p30, and, in the Advanced Settings set Bitrate as VBR 2 Pass
Target 5 Mbps and Maximum 10 Mbps.
    The result was an AVCHD.mp4 1920 x 1080p30 with a Bitrate Overall 5.17 Mbps and Bitrate 5.006.
    Please review and consider.
    Thank you.

  • External screen resolution "defaults" to low-rez (T510, docked; Samsung SyncMaster 730b monitor)

I have a T510 Thinkpad with docking station (Windows XP) with Samsung SyncMaster 730b monitor. Every time I start up, it defaults to low resolution and I need to manually increase the screen resolution. Is there a way to make the default setting for the external monitor is high-resolution?
    Thanks!

    hey ct-user,
it is hard to say if this is caused by the external monitor or by the docking station.
try having the the external monitor connected to the T510 and see if it "saves" the resolution that was previously set.
also, test the external monitor on a different laptop and see if the same issue occurs.

  • IMovie HD 6 rendering very low quality

I've tried exporting this movie several ways, from Full Quality to compressed and the video is poor. That is, during transitions, there is jumps in the brightness of the picture. And some of the rendered dissolves are simply not smooth, but "digitized" looking (like a bad YouTube video... actually, they're all bad).
Anyone know a secret in rendering that I'm missing? The movie is a combination of stills and some video.

I think your problem is that you are rendering in iMovie. Doing a search will turn up posts regarding this. Here's one http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7588332&#7588332
Don't export/render from iMovie. Just close it and import it from iDVD and let iDVD do the rendering.

  • IPhoto pics and Mail pics saved at low rez

I just got the new MacBook Pro!  And the strangest thing is happening.  I'm not sure even where to post it.
My photos are all coming in as low resolution now.  For example, I recieve two photos in a Mail email.  They display 'medium' size.  I Save to desktop or drag and drop and they are quite 'small' sized there.  Can't save the full size.
Also, iPhoto asked to update my Library when I opened it the first time on this MacBook Pro.  I updated and now, most of my photos are resized to be smaller/lower resolution too!  Photos that were once fun to display as my Wallpaper are now way too small to enjoy that anymore.
What happened to my high quality photos and why can't I save high resolution pics to my desktop from Mail?  Hmmmm...

Quit iPhoto and drag your iPhoto library intact as a single entity to the External Hard Drive, depress the option key and launch iPhoto - select the library on the EHD -- be sure to option launch and switch back when done - iPhoto always opens the last used library when you launch it

  • Why does A3 only show low rez unedited photos after DB restore.

After restoring my Aperture 3 DB w/Time Machine, I only see VERY low resolution versions without the cropping and other adjustments applied.  Once I click on them, it loads the full version and applies the cropping, straightening and other adjustments.  I have 24,000 photos and don't want to hit enter on each one to be able to see a decent version of the photo.

I am rebuilding the previews now, but with 24,000 photos, it will take ll day long.  That looks like the solution, but why were the previews not restored when I restored the Aperture DB?   Should I have restored something else as well?

  • Low rez

I can only get low resolutions on my desktop. I am using a Nvidia driver for my geforce 8800GS. just installed Arch. I did a nvidia-xconfig and since I have two GPUs I specified one by adding
    Busid   "01:00:00"
any suggestions how I can get my higher resolutions back?

What resolution are you able to display and what is the actual max resolution of your monitor? Posting your /etc/X11/xorg.conf may also be helpful.

  • Lower rez PDF's?

I make photo proof sheet PDF's for clients using the Low Quality setting but would like to get even smaller, lesser quality PDF's. Can this be done easily? . The pictures are 36 mb Raw files, 50 plus per PDF which makes a somewhat large PDF file.
    Thank you, Andy

The pictures are 36 mb Raw files, 50 plus per PDF which makes a somewhat large
    PDF file.
CS5 bridge version has a lot more options in resizing and defining quality
    and size in Output Module.
Also Acrobat Pro offers a lot options in resizing PDF.
For CS4, you can also first use a batch to resize your files (or use the
Image processor for that) to a much smaller versions that also helps in
    smaller files.

  • How to set download resolution to low rez as default?

Have limited data download. Want all data downloads to default to lowest resolution to reduce amount of data downloaded.

In the old days, sites sometimes specified a "low res" version of images, which the browser could load more quickly as a placeholder for a better quality version of the image. I don't know whether sites do that any more, so I'm not sure what signal Firefox could check for whether a lower resolution version is available.
Meanwhile, to stop Firefox from downloading images automatically, you could consider an add-on such as Image Block: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/image-block/ (adds a toolbar button so you have more control over when to download images).
Are there other kinds of content that raise a similar concern to images?
I guess videos... I haven't researched how to prefer a low-res video. Most users seem to be looking for HD resolution. But maybe there's an add-on for this, too? If you find anything in your research, please post back with your solution.
