Rendering a video in 1080/60i  ?

I have a Canon Vixia HG30 and I record video in 1080/60i .  However, when I try to render with Adobe Premeire Elements 12 I dont see a setting for the format.  What should I do ?

Premiere Elements 11 and 12 are set up so that the program automatically sets the project preset for you based on the properties of the first video drag to the Timeline. Sometimes it does it OK, sometimes not. In those not situations, then you set the project preset manually yourself based the the video properties that you know. When the program does the set and does it wrong, it does not give you the closest set but rather its default which is NTSC AVCHD Full HD1080i30, which just happens to be the project preset we are targeting for anyway if your audio is Stereo and not 5.1 Channel.
If you are going to start off by letting the program do this task for you, then you can check what it has set by looking at Edit Menu/Project Settings/General and the Editing Mode, Timebase, Frame Rate, and Pixel Aspect Ratio. For the project preset of NTSC AVCHD Full HD1080i30, you should see Project Settings
Bottom line: I would expect you to do OK letting the program set the project preset. There should be no way for it to mess up.
However, if your video has 5.1 Channel audio, then definitely set the project preset yourself manually for NTSC AVCHD Full HD1080i30 5.1 channel UNLESS you see the 5.1 in the Audio track if you let the program set the project preset.
In this case, you cannot depend on checking the program's set with Project Settings because both
NTSC AVCHD Full 1080i30
and
NTSC AVCHD Full 1080i30 5.1 channel
will present the same the Project Settings dialog figures, no mention of 5.1 there.
To set the project preset manually
File Menu/New/Project
Change Settings
and then, before you exit the new project dialog in that area, be sure to have a check mark next to
Force Selected Project Setting on This Project.
Then back in the Premiere Elements workspace, Add Media/

AVCHD with Presets = M2T - H.264 1920 x 1080i30 would be a good choice to start with for a file
saved to the computer hard drive.
Also, take a look at MP4 - H.264 1920 x 1080p30 and see how that holds up when you shoot 1080i30 (aka 60i).
There are other shooting opportunities to explore and related Premiere Elements details - maybe 1080p60?
Please update us on your progress when you get a chance.
Thank you.

Could it be the case that you have "proxy media" selected in the preferences (under Final Cut Pro -> Preferences, click on "Playback" and see which is selected, proxy or optimized), BUT you are not creating proxy media when importing?
If that is the case, either
      - switch to "original/optimized media",
    or
      - create the proxy media (control-click the clip(s) in the event browser, choose "Transcode media" e check the box for "create proxy media").

  • Should I record video in Iframe format or other format such as 1080/60i or 1080/60p--want to import to imovie or abobe premiere?

I am traveling and recording video using a panasonicHCX920 full HD camera.  I will probably import video into Imovie 11 on my Imac--but if I switch to final cut or Adobe premiere what recording format should I use?  I know Iframe works--but does it work for HD movies played back on a HD TV?  Which format is best?
    1080/60I (1080/60p) or Iframe?
    Thanks

    Hi
iMovie can not yet - use p50 or p60 - as standard at all !
    So I would use i50 or i60
the progressive material (p60) can be converted outside iMovie to interlaced (i60) - but I don't know how.
FinalCut Pro X - Can import and use progressive material - i've read.

What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 12 running on? Have you updated 12 to 12.1 Update using an opened project's Help Menu/Update?
    If not, please do so.
Please clarify  "Can't add files filmed in 1080/60i to Premiere Elements 12."
Are you importing the 1080 60i into the project using (Expert workspace) Add Media/Files and Folders/Project Assets?
If so, are you getting an error message inside of the video appearing in Project Assets?
Are you setting the project preset manually or letting the program do that task automatically?
    What is the project preset?
    (See Edit Menu/Project Settings/General).

  • How to get better resolution on Blu-ray (1080/60i)

I'm experimenting with my new AG-AC160A camcorder and have been shooting youth hockey games in AVCHD mode, 1080/60i, 1/120 shutter, manual gain and white balance set appropriately, and florescent scene file setting due to lighting in rink. I have PP CS5 and am disappointed with the relative lack of HD-crispness when the Blu-ray output is played on my HD LED set. I used the above settings based on recommendations I saw in the forum somewhere. Any suggestions on what I can try differently? Thank you.

To elaborate on Ann's great advice, the Sequence preset you should be using is AVCHD 1080i30 (60i).
A good way to start out with the correct sequence is to import your clips and then drag one onto the "New Item" icon at lower right of Project Bin. This will create a new sequence to match the source material automatically. As Ann mentioned, you have a non-HD preview format, so if you rendered the timeline to green, and checked "Use Previews" on the final export, then your Blu-ray could have "SD quality" footage in it!!
Curious why the 1/120 shutter, hoping to get better action motion?
If you have a current timeline using the incorrect settings, go ahead and add a NEW Sequence with correct settings, open original sequence and "Select All" which is CRTL + A, then CTRL + C to Copy. Then go to the proper AVCHD sequence and Ctrl + V to Paste entire contents. You will now have the edited sequence moved into correct sequence settings. Now use Export and in AME choose "H.264 Blu-ray" and choose the 1080i preset and export, then use results in Encore. The Blu-ray should look excellent when done correctly.
When exporting from AME, do NOT check the box for "Use Previews", as you want to encode direct from original source and skip any intermediate render clips.
    Thanks

  • Accidentally Shot 1920 x 1080, 60i

Shot some footage today using two DSLR cameras. One was incorrectly set to 1920 x 1080 60i and when I imported into FCP, the video is not smooth. tried exporting it and got the same result. The other video was shot 24fps. I brought a 60i clip into the project window and exported it using H.264 but no luck. Not sure what to do here or what I have have done wrong. I suspect you may need more information and I would be glad to give it to you on request. I am a bit of an amatuer (obviously) and I may need someone to walk me through it. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!

    Hi Ian,
Thanks for the reply. I agree that something odd is happening here. FYI when I run the files through quiktime, they also do not run smoothly. In other words, I imported the files through FCP and after the clips didn't ruyn smoothly, I went to the Event Folder/Original Media and tried to play the clips that way (through Quicktime) and I got the same issue. Does that tell you anything? When I play the clips on the camera they play fine. Is there perhaps an import setting error?
I tired reset speed but it did not change things. Also, there was no place to reset the speed to 24p. I assume the project is set to 60i since I assumed FCP sets the project to the first clip that is dropped into the project.
Does any of this make sense to you?
    Thanks

  • Correct PPro CS3 Project Settings for Neoscene/Cineform 1080 60i .avi files?

I am looking for clarification on the correct Premiere CS3 project settings for AVCHD 1080 60i NTSC files converted with Neo Scene with the "maintain source frame format" option.
Should the PPro project settings for "Field" be upper or lower field first?
On a Cineform discussion board I was told all interlaced HD footage is upper field first.
However, I have found that a PPro project setting of upper field first results in much more sluggish playback than lower field first.
So seems there is additional processing needed with the upper field first project setting and this suggests to me that lower field first is the proper setting.
Any thoughts from NeoScene/Cineform users out there?
    Thanks!
The project settings I have been using are:
    Editing Mode: Desktop
    Timebase: 29.97
    Frame size: 1920 x 1080
Pixel Aspect Ratio: Square Pixels (1.0)
    Fields: Lower Field First
    Audio: 48000

...is not so good - bad colours. In Microsoft DV Avi-DV Pal compression. D1/DV PAL Wide is pixelate. I have click the de-interlace so it is not because of that. I have no problem to use encore it the file i send is compressed in those settings i mention before. I have no problems in compressing the file with those settings at all, like i have when i want to transfor the video in avi uncompressed.
Oaaa...i am going crazy here. I have had so many problems with this and if i end up working this documentary and not beeing able to export it i go mad!...this if i do not go there before because of this problems...

  • Converting XD CAM EX 1920 x 1080 60i  to XD CAM X 1920 x 1080 24 P

HI, Id recently buyed an XDCAM ex 3 and begin working with it. I am new in this format...
    I made a mistake. Begin recording a video in full HD, XD CAM X 1920 x 1080 24 P,
and another day continue recording, but by mistake change settings in video camera to XD CAM X 1920 x 1080 60i...
I noticed my mistake because when I began editing in FCP 7, the video runs smooth in time line,(XD CAM X 1920 x 1080 24 P,) but when download a clip in the timeline recorded 60i it seems that is not running smoothly. even If I render. Tried to export in fcp with the settings XD CAM X 1920 x 1080 24P, but it seems the problem persists...
    The time line settings are:
    frame size: 1920 x 1080 Aspect Ratio HDTV 1080i (16:9)
    Pixel aspect ratio: square
quicktime video settings: Apple Prores 422 HQ
    EDITING TIME BASE 23.98
    Any sugggestions??
    thanks!!
have no aja kona or any other device like that...

If you don't have the money to pay for a high quality hardware based standards conversion then you can use a slow (but still good quality) software conversion method ... try Apple's own Compressor application which is part of your Final Cut Studio suite
Or if you prefer to stay within FCP then you might want to have a look at Graeme Nattress's excellent Standards Conversion plugin set:
    http://www.nattress.com/Products/standardsconversion/standardsconversion.htm
By the way, if you go with the former then don't waste your time staying in the XDCAM codec, instead you'd be better targeting Apple ProRes 422 as your edit intermediate codec for the converted clips. Similarly, if you prefer to stay in FCP and need to to do a timeline based conversion using the Nattress plugins then you would likely do well to set your sequence format to Apple ProRes 422 rather than native XDCAM HD.

  • 1080-60i so why is is 30fps after importing?

The whole interlaced vs progressive thing is confusing. I have a HF100 1080-60i camcorder (also records 720-30p, though not sure it is true 30p or not). When I import into iMovie as a 1080i file, its shows 1080i-30 in the finder and the .MOV clips also show 30fps. Why not 60i? Is iMovie converting the 1080-60i to 1080-30i? I know iMovie can't do 1080p. Would it be better to create a 720-30p iMovie instead? Looking for the smoothest quality output, which is why I shoot in 60i rather than 30p. Thanks.

    No, don't record in 30p.
In 30p each "field" (..as Matt has explained; a "field" is half the information that's contained in a single frame..) is more-or-less doubled, or recorded twice. When that reaches iMovie, iMovie plays the video at twice the normal speed! ..because it thinks that there should be two separate or different "fields" in every frame, not the same field twice.
Record at 60i. That's the "traditional" way to record video. That's compatible with iMovie. 30p is NOT compatible with iMovie.
Using a p ("progressive") frame rate is intended to simulate film, and to be a cheap way - at 24p - to shoot video and then have it transferred to film for showing in cinemas.
Avoid anything with p on the end; always shoot at an i frame rate, because that's what iMovie understands.

  • 1080 30p  recorded as 1080 60i ?? (Jeff B. or Ann) ?

Using CS6.  I set my camera on 1080 30p, but the owner's manual shows this:
After further searching I found that the explanation seems to be that 1080 60i is the wrapper.
So, when I set P. Pro CS6 to 1080 30 p, P.Pro tells me that's the wrong setting and promps me to select this editing mode.
Upper field in progressive video ?  No mention of progressive here.
When I export my project as progressive, using Encore, I  can see small jaggies where contrasting colors meet.  Very much like I used to see with interlaced video.
I tried Max render quality and 2x VBR encoding, but I still get the small jaggies.
    Suggested solution?

Hey, I see the whole gang is here! Just thinking out loud but follow along. (Rounding to 30 for simplicity only). If you record in TRUE 30p, the camera is grabbing/recording an entire frame of video every 1/30 of a second. There are no fields, just one full frame (image) from one moment in time. When recording 60i, then two individual fields are recorded at different times, for instance all the even lines are grabbed at one moment (1/60 of a second) and the odd lines are then grabbed 1/60 of a second later. These fields are combined to create a frame of video covering 1/30 of a second in total. However, since the two fields have a temporal (time) difference, the two fields may not match where there is motion. Things changed in the scene between grabbing field 1 and field 2. That's where we get motion blur and artifacting with interlaced video, while a frame of Progressive video is a "snapshot" of ONE moment in time.
My understanding of the "30p in a 60i wrapper" is that the camera is still grabbing a full frame in 1/30 of a second, as it would if recording 30p, however that frame is then split into two fields before being saved to tape/ SD card. The two fields are from the same MOMENT, so no temporal difference, but they are not "identical" as one field has all the even lines and the other has all the odd lines to complete the frame. Each "field" contains unique information, though the times match on both. These two fields when combined into a full frame should have the same "look" as though it was recorded as 30p.
So the way this "30p in a 60i wrapper" thing ought to work is that when viewing it, the 60i should look the same as 30p, should it not? So edit AND deliver as 60i. If the video is "deinterlaced" at some point, you would be throwing away one field, in effect halving the resolution, which is going to make the video look jaggy.
I could be wrong, but this seems logical. Please correct me if I'm off base ;-)
EDIT: Of course, if exporting for web, then that output is always Progressive, so not sure how that gets handled. Would it help to "Modify > Interpret As > Progressive"?? I have no footage with which to experiment unfortunately, but I feel that for DVD or Blu-ray, then 60i seems the way to go.
    Thanks

  • Panasonic TM-700K 1080 60i Footage and Workflow

    Hey Everyone,
I have a new question for you guys that have a Panasonic TM-700K. I recorded a short film in the HA setting instead of using 1080 60p. I believed that I recorded it in 1080 60i mode and then imported into Final Cut Pro using the log and transfer protocol. I used the AVCHD 1080 60i easy setup, but when I tried dragging the files from the capture scratch window into the timeline I got a message that said something like Final Cut Pro needs to reformat your timeline for the proper frame rate and video setting. When I clicked yes I then looked at the video properties in the timeline and they were set to 29.97. Did I not record in 60 fps, and if I didn't, where do I change that setting in the camera? Or is it something with the log and transfer settings? Thanks for your help, I just want to be able to edit the timeline in 1080 60i using the properly formatted footage.

    Hi David,
I remember you from the other TM-700K discussion. So I am assuming that the video is supposed to play at 29.97 frames per second, but what easy setup option do you use to optimize the 1080 60i footage? I thought it meant 60 frames per second. When I used the DVCPRO HD 1080i60 easy set up option Final Cut Pro converted that setting when I dragged items from the capture scratch window into the timeline. Do you have a good workflow that works well for the 1080i60 footage and if so could you possibly post it? Thanks for your help.

  • Reverse Telecine DVCProHD 1080/60i 24p Problems!

    Heres what happened.
    1. Captured DVCProHD 1080/60i footage shot in 24P.
    2. Edited footage in 29.97 rate.
    3. Realized Pulldown was never removed.
    4. Selected the bin with all original media, and then selected "tools" menu and "Remove advanced pulldown"
    5. FCP6 batch processed for a while. clip by clip.
    6. after process was finished a few clips per bin are offline.
    7. FCP will not "reconnect" these offline clips.
    8. FCP will not import these clips when accessed through the finder (drag and drop to the bin).
What happened? I need to reimport these clips. I would appreciate any and all help.
    Heres more info...
    1. the clips that processed properly show 23.98 when getting "item properties>format"
    2. offline clips open/play in Quicktime.
    3. when importing offline clips, FCP gives incompatible/unsupported error.
    4. in finder duplicating and renaming offline clip doesnt work.
    5. exporting offline clip to another DVCProHD clip doesnt work.
    thank you for reading.

Wish I could help, but can only post that I too am having problems with progressive footage.
    Heres what happened for me.
    1. Captured DVCProHD 1080/60P footage shot in 24P.
    2. Edited footage in 59.94 rate.
    3. Realized Pulldown was never removed.
    4. Selected original media, and then selected "tools" menu and "Remove advanced pulldown"
    5. Got error stating footage not DVCProHD (which it is).
    6. Tried DVCPro frame rate converter > 23.98 (tried all variables)
    7. At the end of processing clips I get the incompatible/unsupported error.
Did you try the frame rate converter? This option seems great with the ref video option.

  • Why no 1080 60i in Encore?

ok, I'm just wondering why no 1080 60i in encore?
it seems like it's a supported blu ray format, so I guess I'm looking for another mastering program.
can anyone help shed some light on this for me?
    thank!

Aha! Jeff... thank you! ok, so the 1080i60 is the 1920x1080 @ 29.97 (and the i is referring to the 60 fields from 30 frames).
    well... duh.
ok, that just seems odd, but I'm down. I thought 1080i60 was an interlaced 60frame format, like most video is interlaced 29.97
why the heck do they refer to it as i60 when it's just the same as ntsc's interlaced 29.97?

  • Low Memory when rendering a video file (Win 8.1; HP Envy 700-230qe)

Rendering a 4-minute video (with several video tracks) using Sony Vegas Pro13, keeps stopping around 70-80% of completion --- saying that there's low memory.
How could that happen on a HP Envy 700-230qe with 32GB DDR3 memory?
I look at the Task Manager:  the  "Commited" memory keeps increasing during the rendering until it hits the full number (36 GB in my case)  and then the memory is depleted, which stops the render.
