Rendering a website in older firefox version

Hi,
I'm a web developer who has just recently started using Firefox again after a two year leave. I'm pretty impressed with version 8 and have started doing some development work however I need to test some pages in older versions of Firefox since my visitors still use versions <8. Is there any options that allow me to specify which version of Firefox I'd like to render the page in? There are a number of CSS styles that I need to test in both version 7 and 8.

No, Firefox doesn't have a compatibility mode to view pages with older Firefox versions.<br />
You will have to install additional Firefox versions if you want to test websites with that other version.<br />
IE doesn't allow to install multiple versions, but with Firefox there is no such problem.
Do a custom install and install each version in its own program folder to use multiple Firefox versions.

Create a new profile exclusively for each Firefox version.
Create a desktop shortcut with -P "profile" appended to the target to launch each Firefox version with its own profile.

  • Firefox 4.0 address bar shortcut - used to be F6 in older firefox versions, what about firefox 4?

    Hey guys,
pretty much wat i;ve asked in the question bar,
Oldre firefox versions would let you type in an address by hitting F6 but what has this been changed to in firefox 4? I;ve tried various button combinations or has this been removed entirely?

There is a bug report concerning this, F6 will not work with tabs on top.

  • Just updated to Firefox 4.0 and can't download former 3.6 version as suggested by others...what can I do since I have Mac OSX 10.4.11 and can't download older Firefox version?

When I went to the website suggested in the forum to download the older 3.6 version of Firefox, there was nowhere I could click to download this older version. Firefox recommends and had a place to click on downloading 4.0. How can I get the best of both without having to upgrade my Mac OSX? Please send me a reply ASAP! Thanks!

Firefox 4 requires at least OS X 10.5. You can get the latest version of Firefox 3.6 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
Mozilla are working to prevent Mac users with non-compatible systems from getting the notification about Firefox 4, and also not displaying the "Download Firefox 4" button on http://www.mozilla.com

  • When upgrade from an older firefox version where an existing plugin was ready enabled, would this plugin become "ask to activate" after upgrade to v26?

What's the user experience if he/she upgrade from an older version of Firefox, where an existing plugin was ready enabled, would this plugin become "ask to activate" after the user upgrade to Firefox v26?

If plugins.click_to_play was set to true, it might. I am finding that click-to-play is not working very well with Firefox. Whether the plugins are set to Always Activate or Ask to Activate, it allows everything from a website to load once it is allowed from the icon in the address bar. I also have the extension Click to play per-element, and that seems to make no difference.

  • How do I get back features from older Firefox versions?

Some features of older version FF are gone from FF 4.0.
    3 I particularly miss:
    (1) Percentage bar in upper left corner page of Inbox messages. GONE!
    (2) I could click on arrow on right side panel (annoying ads) and hide said panel and widen my Inbox message area. This useful feature now GONE!
    (3) Most important of all I could click on an e-mail picture file and preview thumbnail of photo before downloading it. Someone in their wisdom decided that that wasn't useful or timesaving; now that's GONE!
My question is are there any plug-ins or add-ons available to get these features back in Version 4.o?
If so, I'd like specific instructions on how to do this.

I know that Firefox doesn't do e-mail, but I view my e-mail through SmartZone which I access through Firefox browser.
If there is a way to view messages in SmartZone without going through either Firefox or Internet Explorer I'd love to know about it.
    Thanks.

  • Is there an older firefox version for my MAC G4 OSX.4.11

How can I download an older version of firefox?

    For older Macs that aren't supported in Firefox 4 / 5 / 6, try TenFourFox for PowerPC's running Mac 10.4.11 & 10.5.8 . <br />

    http://code.google.com/p/tenfourfox/downloads/list
    Or use 3.6.22 from Mozilla. <br />

  • Where do I get 64bit firefox builds? where do I get older firefox versions?

    This is really frustrating.
After installing Iceweasel 20 from my distribution it no longer restores previous session on startup.
My distribution no longer carries firefox 18 which was the previous version. It carries a version of iceweasel 10 which does not have this problem.
Sure, the problem is not reproducible with fresh profile but I do not want a damn empty profile. I want my history.
And downloading 64bit version or older version of firefox from mozilla.com is near impossible. No links are provided. You can at best try random URLs in the hope you find one that leads somewhere.

And where *are* those supported Linux 64 bit builds?
    And older releases?
The download page offers just "Linux"

  • Will current versions of Firefox emulate older Firefox versions of browsers like IE8 or allow someone to open with another browser in Safari?

The compatibility function in IE8 allows me to emulate an older version of a browser when software won't work with IE8.
I can emulate a different browser when I use Safari 5. Can you do this with Firefox?

You could try the [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/10909/ IE Tab Plus] or the [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/92382/ IE Tab 2] add-on. These add-ons do not emulate IE, but allow you to open IE inside a Firefox tab for sites that do not work in Firefox.
The main difference between the 2 versions of IE Tab is that IE Tab Plus supports the Adblock Plus add-on whilst in IE mode.

  • I need to access bookmarks through Google but have too new a firefox version. Can I get an older firefox version downloaded?

I have lots and lots of bookmarks stored under google bookmarks but can't access the google toolbar with the new versions of firefox. I need version 4 as the latest to enable me to access google. • Cannot gain access to Mt Diablo School Website with current firefox version. Site suggests an update?

Mt. Diablo Unified School District (MDUSD) has upgraded
their website. I cannot access from my laptop. MDUSD
website suggests that I do not have the latest version of
Firefox that will allow me access.

I suspect then that the Safari as a supported browser is for a desktop.
I have no clue if this would work for you, but there are alternative browsers for the iPad that you can identify as desktop browsers in the settings. I use iCab Mobile identified as FireFox for Mac. It allows me to do many things that Safari will not let me do, such as edit my posts on this discussion site and use the advanced editor features.
I'm not saying that it will work for your online school website, I am merely suggesting that there are other feature rich browsers available that sort of leave Safari in their wake, so to speak.

  • Unable to fully uninstall older firefox version to install new version.

When installing new version of firefox, I receive the instruction that I should re-boot to complete removal of previous version. After doing this, I continue to receive the same instruction when I try to install again.

I am new to these forums and hope this is posted in the right one. If not, could someone direct me?
I am having a ton of problems with 5.1. I installed it last Friday (without removing the previous version) and nothing is working properly. It took me 2 days to figure out a way to delete it (uninstaller would not work). To begin with, iTunes would simply not open. I double click on the icon and nothing. Tried to re-install and same problem. Found a copy of 4.9 and installed it, but got error message stating "QuickTime failed ti initialize - Error #2095. Please make sure QuickTime is properly installed. Uninstalled iTunes again and tried to uninstall QuickTime so I could start from scratch. When I run Add/Delete programs, QuickTime does not appear. However, when I run search, it lists a freaking 433 files associated with QuickTime.
Can someone tell me a simple way to erase iTunes completely from my computer? If I can do this, I will simply reinstall the original iTunes I got with my mini and not worry about updating. I don't care about the podcasts -- I just want to be able to get back to the beginning so I can import tunes to my mini. Sorry for this being so long, but I am at my wit's end dealing with this. Thanks.

  • Can I retrieve bookmarks from an older Firefox version to insert them into the current version? I was running Mac OS 10.4?(Tiger) but upgraded to 10.6.8; then I loaded Firefox 9.0.1 & discovered that I'd lost my bookmarks.Help please.

The OS upgrade was done by a technician so no issues there. I uploaded the current Firefox without saving my old bookmarks. I remember now that previous FF upgrades progressed without bookmark problems. Is the current problem to do with the new OS? Not certain of the correct OS number but it was Tiger; also not certain of the correct FF number but it was the most appropriate one for Tiger. Again, please help.
    Thanks very much.

Not unless they were saved somewhere on your computer. You can check the Time Machine if that storage has been used and wasn't reset as well.

  • When I launch Firefox/Mozilla it comes u; with a Yahoo Search window. My older Firefox versions opened with MyEarthlink as my start page. Even designating Mozilla as my default browser still brings up Yahoo. What gives?

Downloaded 3.6 and when I clicked on Mozilla icon, it loaded with Yahoo Search page and not as my previous Mozilla browser. To get to Earthlink, I have to type the URL in the Yahoo search window; same with any other URL. Before, I had a URL window above the browser page. Both the 3.6 and now 4 beta are painfully different.
    Running Win2000 SP4.

    1. Have you tried resetting your Homepage? <br />

    2. Did you hide the Navigation bar where the Location / URL bar resides? <br />

If you can't see the View menu item, hit the '''Alt''' key.

  • The website for adding "sync" to my Firefox version, does not work. Is there another fix for this problem?

I'm trying to sync bookmarks from our laptop to our desktop computer. The laptop is running Firefox 16.0.2 and the desktop has version 3.6.8. On the desktop, under "Tools, Options" there is no selection for "Sync". The desktop is running Windows XP Media Center Edition.
I did try to download a patch from your site, but the download website is no longer working. Is there some other patch you can offer to solve this problem? Can I upgrade the desktop to a newer Firefox version?

The old Firefox Sync extension for older Firefox versions was discontinued by Mozilla over a year ago. Update Firefox.
Firefox app button > Help > Check for Updates
Or download the current release version and install it after you uninstall that old 3.6.8 version.<br />
