Rendering as 10-bit/12-bit color (JPEG 2000?)

I'm not trying to create a digital cinema package (DCP) per se, but I've got a few questions related to rendering in bit depths greater than 8-bit.
NOTE:  The digital cinema standard (PDF link, see page 31) for package distribution is JPEG 2000 files with 12-bit color (in XYZ color space)...packaged into the MXF container format.
1.  I'm wondering if it's possible to render to any 10-bit or 12-bit color format within After Effects.  Let's assume my source is a 16bpc or 32bpc comp, and I render it to the QuickTime container and select JPEG2000 or one of the other variants.  None of them seems to go above "millions of colors", or 8-bit.  (The one that has the option of "millions of colors plus" still only renders to planar 8-bit [YUV 4:2:0] when I inspect its streams and metadata.)
2.  In the QuickTime container list, what are "Motion JPEG-A" and "Motion JPEG-B"?  These aren't standards with which I'm familiar, and I can't seem to find any detail in the documentation as to what these actually are.  (In all my tests, they're limited to 8-bit color.)
3.  Is the JPEG 2000 codec that's available via QuickTime the same JPEG 2000 codec that's literally the full ISO/IEC 15444 or SMPTE 429-4 standard, or some crippled bits-and-pieces version?
Obviously, I can render to TIFF or OpenEXR sequences in 16bpc or full float...I was just wondering if it was possible to get 10-bit or 12-bit color in a standard container via After Effects CC or Premiere Pro CC (via Media Encoder CC).
I see the "render at maximum bit depth" option in Premiere Pro, but I've never found a format/container that would output anything higher than 8-bit color...even with 16bpc or 32bpc input media.
Thanks for your help and insight.

If you want highter bit depth J2K, you have to render to image sequences. The baseline QT implementation is from the stone age. Perhaps there's some commercial third-party Codec out there or if you have such hardware, you could use Blackmagic's, but off  the bat there is nothing usable in QT as far as I know.

  • Reinstalled 98se Only have 16 bit and 2 colors

    Hi!
I just reinstalled my 98se, and in my Display > Settings> I only have 16 bit and 2 colors. There is no 256 bit high color--or any other color. My monitor looks like Im in Safe Mode. This sounds like a VGA problem but I couldn't seem to find a driver for the problem. I have the MS6390 board with the Standard PCI Graphics Adapter, but Im lost. Sure would appreciate any suggestions.

Right click your display, of course! People never understand what I mean, only what I say.
Okey, forget the monitor thing for a while and concentrate on the display and on your video/display VGA card. That is what I wanted you to change. That is what I hoped I had directed you too.
'Standard VGA' you could say is BIOS/Windows driven, but by changing this to the VGA card you actually have, you will be able to have a much better display (shown on your monitor).
What VGA card do you think you have, if any? This is a list of newer VGA cards. It is in Swedish, and that is why it is so useful to everyone:

  • Where did 8 bit / 16 bit / 32 bit go?

Hey, I've been off the Motion grid for a while. There used to be a place to set your project to 8 bit, 16 bit, or 32 bit float color. I'm in Motion 5 and I can't find that anywhere. Is that gone?
I'm using a cloud generator as a background in a project and I see banding in it even though I'm rendering it at ProRes 422 HQ (1080p 23.98fps).
Sorry for the stupid question. I looked in the manual and the message boards.
    Thanks!
    Scot

Motion 5 is 32-bit floating point at all times now.

  • Manipulate designs in 12 bit & 24 bit?

How to work with 12 bit & 24 bit in photoshop windows...? Thank in advance for your technical support..

There is no way to directly manipulate images at "odd" bit-depths in PS. Any such files would be processed at the next highest bit-depth and then quantized down/ converted by whatever loaders and savers are involved, e.gf. for DDS game textures. Also depends on what color space is involved and may in fact require to set up specific color profiles to get correct conversion in some cases...

  • Adobe Flash Player 32-bit/64-bit ActiveX 12.0.0.38 for IE - failing to install (via SCCM/SCUP)

Hi, I've been using SCCM/SCUP to update Adobe Flash for some now, and it's been working great. Much better than pervious custom scripting methods. However, the most recent version for IE, 12.0.0.38, isn't installing properly on some machines in my workplace (all windows 7 sp1 32-bit), and I can't figure out why. I can't see any pattern witht the machines that have the error.
The FlashInstall.log looks fine, no errors at all. And "Programs & Features" shows that version installed. However, SCCM keeps trying to reinstall and gives this error message: Installation job encountered some failures. Error = 0x80240022. I've read up on this message from previous flash versions, these seem to relate to different issues.
The few machines with Firefox have all successfully installed that version, which I notice for the first time I can remember, is a slightly different version number? Adobe Flash Player 32-bit/64-bit Plugin 12.0.0.43.
Has anyone else seen, this issue with 12.0.0.38 for IE, and have any ideas? Thanks

May be related to issues with logic in detection which Adobe is investigating.

  • X301 and Vodafone and AT&T Wireless WAN (HSPA) Driver for Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit)

Ok, I (Lenovo) did it again.
System Update showed me this update: "Vodafone and AT&T Wireless WAN (HSPA) Driver for Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit)".
As I'm using Vodafone and I had a AT&T driver, I decided to update.
The result is, that now the GPS doesn't work.
Yes, I'm in a place where the GPS signal is present (my house, with the previous driver I was able to get 6/7 satellites).
What happens? Lenovo TV GPS stays there trying to fix the satellites, but nothing happens. I can't recover the system to a previous state, as I updated Flash player too, and Windows only show me the possibility to roll back this update.
So, apart advicing everyone not to update, I kindky ask:
    - where can I found the previous driver? I searched the web without success...
    - why does Lenovo deploy driver which can cause problems (I just had one updating the BT driver last week! .msi installer problem, error 1935...)?
    Thanks to everyone
    600, R52, T61p, X301

Ok, I found in the Net the drive 7uw706ww.zip, which is Version 6.1.4.2, while the updated version is 6.1.10.5 (7UW708WW).
I tried again the GPS, and it wasn't working.
Anyway, before downgrading, I tried to reinstall the new driver, downloading and installing the .exe instead going through System Update.
Result: now GPS is working (same place, same conditions, just 5 minutes later)!
Don't know where the difference is...

  • Will CC&B 2.3.1 work in both 32 bits, 64 bits windows7

    Hi,
Will CC&B 2.3.1 work in both 32 bits, 64 bits windows7 ? Also which version of Internet Explorer is supported for CC&B 2.3.1 in windows 7

Windows 7 is supported only in a tier 1 role (browser-based client) as far as I am aware. It's not certified for use with the web app server, or at least not mentioned in the official CC&B 2.3.1 documentation. The only supported configuration is Windows 7/Internet Explorer 8.
If you need more flexibility but don't have (or don't want to use) Windows 2008 Server, you can run Windows XP SP3 or higher, then you get a bit more variety on the browser side of things. It will support IE 6 SP3, IE 7, and IE 8.
I hope this helps you at a little! In my personal opinion, Windows 7 is still somewhat new to be used comfortably as a "server" for CC&B 2.3.1. This is just my opinion of course, and you know what they say about opinions :)

  • Illustrator CC (32 bit/64 bit) and InDesign CC crashing on windows 8.1

I have recently installed the trail versions of illustrator CC (32 bit/64 bit) and InDesign CC using windows 8.1 operating system. When I run the applications they both crash. I have updated them but still facing the same problem.

  • Photoshop Extended CS 4: 32 bit & 64 bit has stopped working with an error 131:4

Dell XPS 720 Quod Processor 8GB Memory Running Window 7
Both Photoshop Extended CS 4: 32 bit & 64 bit has stopped working with an error 131:4. which stated to reboot to solve the problem. After several attempts at rebooting the computer, I received the same error message.
I was in the process of updating all my Adobe software in order to tackle an Adobe Media Encoder problem: when I sent a stream from the time line to be converted to an AVI file from Premiere Pro CS4 to Encoder the window appeared & hung.
I want to treat the Photoshop problem first. How do I proceed?

Unable to Re-install Adobe Photoshop cs4
A few years back my brother bought me a Dell Studio XPS 8100 running Windows 7 pro.
I have 8 gig's of ram and has a 32 and x64 bit system, right now it is enough for my needs and I can easily spare a gig or two for this program.
I cannot install this program again. I have used iYogi, Adobe Tech, support and am wondering if it makes any difference whether I install it on a x64 or 32 system?
Why can't i re-installl the program. I used it a lot and I do miss it.

  • Photoshop CS6 Cloud 13.1.1 32-bit & 64-bit keeps asking to licence software at start twice

Photoshop CS6 Cloud 13.1.1 32-bit & 64-bit keeps asking to licence software at start twice. Once when i start it and again once I sign in? I recently refreshed the host file in windows to see if helped but not.
    Regards
    James Howarth

    Hi James,
This is a known issue with Photoshop CS6 specifically and will be addressed with a future update soon.
The temporary solutions are to either uninstall Photoshop CS6 and not install the 13.1.1 update or continue signing in every few launches until an update is released.
We have this document about the issue here:

  • Binary image to color jpeg

I am manipulating (B/W) ICCD images with Vision.  Unfortunately, I have to cut the images down to I8, but that is not the issue.  My question is this-  Labview allows me to visualize the I8 data with a "rainbow" color map.  I would like to get it to automatically create a color JPEG file (or other image file type) that I can open in powerpoint.  I am aware of the IMAQ write file2.vi, but that only writes a grayscale file.  How do I go about interpreting the I8 values to color data?  Sorry, I am a newbie to image manipulation.  J

Use something like this.  Fill in the array constant with the colors that you want.

iPhoto 9 won't import some black and white jpg's I scanned. I think I need to convert them to color jpeg's.
Can I do this on the command line using sips? If so what is the command?

The photos need to have an RGB profile - preferably sRGB - see Toad's cellar for his script - http://web.mac.com/toad.hall/ToadsCellar/ToadsCellar.html

How can I convert/read out from Hex (8-bit), the bit 0 length 1 (string subset!!??) and convert it to decimal.
With respect to one complement and two complement ?

Just like Jeff, purely guessing here.
It almost sounds like you just need to Read from Binary File?
AND the 8-bit number with 1?
Need more details.  What exactly do you have to start with?  What exactly are you trying to get out of it?  Examples help.

    Please answer?

... Can I upload this to the Cloud BIT for BIT
No. iTunes Match is what it implies... it finds a "match" in iTunes' immense library.
None of your CD's content is actually uploaded to iCloud.
In short, there is no substitute for a backup of the device containing your iTunes Library.
