Rendering as .aiff

I want to clear something up. Since AIFF has no compression, in theory one could conceivably take the same file and keep rendering it as aiff and it will never lose quality?

there is almost certainly loss in the mixdown process
due to dithering. how many times before you perceive
it is something you'd have to try to find out.
Here's my problem. I'm doing a film score in GB that I've already converted to aiff two times. Then I have to take that file and put it in a host called Tracktion (so I can use its great mastering tools). Then I have to export once again from Tracktion into Final Cut Express, and then finally from FCE to iDVD. By my count that's five different exports of the same song. Is that a no-no? I can't think of any other way to do it.

  • AIFF's imported are always out of sync and need to be rendered!!!!!

I have had this problem for years, has anyone figured out hoe to get sound files that are in sync in pro Tools and in Sound Track Pro to be in sync in FCP??
This is the strangest thing that you can not import files into a PAL session without a red line needing to be rendered and without the audio drifting!!
    Any ideas? Thanks, mark

Your location says you are in LA. Why are you working in in PAL?
I know that things need to be at 48K this would not matter anyway if it was 44.1 FCP would do the conversion and not make it out of sync in an NTSC Timeline, but a PAL timeline FCP screws with the sound file. The files came from pro Tools, the industry standard should mixing.
I put them through Sound Track Pro and it did not help.

  • !! Sound Studio / AIFF / FCP : Poorly rendered files in timelilne

I will try to describe my problem the best I can...
-Imported AIFF audio files into FCP (these files were generated in Sound Studio).
When I drag these files into the viewer, they sound fine.
-Pulled these audio files into my time line.
    -Rendered them.
-The rendered audio files are barely audible. When I open the rendered audio clips from my time line in the viewer, they still sound awful whereas the unrendered files, which are still in my browser, sound OK.
Any idea why this would be happening?
Thanks for your help and please let me know if you need more details.

Here's the info on the particular audio clip that's troubling me:
    -Audio rate: 44.1 KHz
    -Audio format: 16 bit integer
    -Data rate: 172.3 k/s
What's strange is that I have music files with the same audio rate (44.1) that render and play normally. Only the audio format is different:
    -Audio rate: 44.1 KHz
-Audio format: 32 bit floating point
    -Data rate: 45.8 k/sec
Any idea how I can "convert" the troublesome audio clip? When you say " they will need to be rendered" I assume you are referring to a different type of rendering and not FCP's typical rendering (Sequence/Render/Render all)?
Thanks for your help so far. I really do appreciate it.

  • How can I tell if an audio clip is .m4a or .aiff?

I have some audio clips in a song that I dragged/dropped a few weeks ago and I cannot remember if they were rendered as m4a or aiff. I tried clicking on the clip itself but I see no option for "get info" or anything like that. I also tried using the finder which does tell you, but unfortunately I used the same title about ten other times so that won't work in this case.

    Did you try my suggestion?
    WH
Yes, and it presents the same dilemma as the finder option since I have multiple files with the exact same title. Example: My song has an audio clip titled "Leah" because that is the name of the girl I recorded on that track. Unfortunately I used that title six different times. So if I use Finder or your suggestion, I type in "Leah", and it gives me all 5 files, all the exact same music and duration and I have no idea which one is the one being used in my song. The only way to know for sure is to do this from within GB, and I cannot believe there isn't an option for this. Thanks for offering to help though.

  • Sound import to 25 fps sequence is always out of sync and need rendering!!!

Anyone know why an aif sound file from Pro Tools imported to 25 fps sequence is always out of sync and needs rendering? It is like FCP is converting it to another freq. when it is 48k already! I do this all the time with NTSC and 23.98 projects, what is up with the 25 frame seq.??
    Thanks, Mark

  • All media I drop to timeline needs to be rendered, what's wrong?

So here is as much detail as I can give about my problem.
I have a new Mac Book Pro. I just installed Final Cut Studio 2.
I am editing mp3 sound files and .MPEG video files that I modified from .MOD files.
No matter what media I drop into my timeline or how i drop it the footage needs to be rendered (so say's the red line). Funny part is I can play through the clips but they drop frames.
All other times I have used FCP I only needed to render effects.
I have changed RT playback to dynamic and have the files stored on my hard drive camera which recorded the video. I have also tried storing files on the hard drive and a USB with same results.
    Is this a memory issue?
    All advice is welcome.

FCP doesn't work with MPEG video files nor MP3s. You need to convert the MPEGs to a format the FCP works with, like DV/NTSC...and the audio to AIFF 16/bit stereo files. You can use Compressor for both of these types.

  • Every effect must be rendered?

Been combing the forums for some time looking for an answer.
I've captured about 10 mins of HD footage from my HDR-FX7. I can drop my clips right in the time line with no rendering needed; however, any effect added needs to be rendered, even something as simple as a border. Naturally this is creating a great deal of frustration and I'm ready to go back to Vegas...
This seems so basic, but I don't know what to do.

Trust me, everyone goes through this stage of frustration, you just need to get over it and accept that some of these things need to be tolerated to get the advanced capabilities Final Cut gives you. As to your second question, FCE doesn't work with MP3 files. You should first convert it to AIFF.
Look over this link and see if it helps you at all with this process:

  • IDVD closes during rendering

Hi I'm trying to create a dvd in iDVD 6, in the preview everything looks fine. But when I try to render it it finishes rendering the photos for the slide show and the transitions and then just closes down.
I have tried to render the video part with out the slideshow and it works fine, just not sure what's happening.
I have over 20 GB of free disk space.
The only thing I can think of is maybe I have too many photos for the slideshow (310).
Not sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hi
    a. If You use SlideShow in iDVD the limit is 99 photos per set.
    b. What file types are You using in Your project
    • video - streamingDV.mov or .avi, .wmv, .mp4 ?
    • audio - .aiff or .mp3 - iTunes downloads etc
    • photos - .jpeg or .bmp else
    I only use first alternative
    c. Free space - I always goes for a minimum of 25Gb for SD 4x3 video
If 16x9 HD multiply with 4-5
    d. Deleting pref file helps sometimes
    e. Running Repair permissions also a possibility

  • Getting AC3 or AIFF files directly from the DVD studio Timeline.

I'm trying to give my website manager parts of one of my previous demos. Instead of completely rendering the whole thing over I imported the original Mpeg, AC3 and AIFF files to my DVD studio timeline. There I was able to cut out the middle of my demo by cutting the end of one Sequence and the beginning of the other. With this said I want to give my website manager Mpeg and AIFF or AC3 files for him to use. I was able to export the Mpeg file easily but am not able to export either of the audio files, does anyone have an idea?

Hmm, you really should completely render the whole thing over again.
MPEG-2 videos are very highly compressed. If you take that and compress it again for the web, there is going to be a guaranteed loss in quality. Think of photocopying. If you make a photocopy of a picture, it comes out pretty good. But if you make a photocopy of that photocopy, it comes out very bad. You want to avoid double compressing.
Go back to your original videos in FCP, edit the clips you want. Then export out QuickTime mov files using the same codec you edited in. Give those to your website manager for compression for the web.

  • ANALOG AUDIO CAPTURE NEEDS RENDERING?

I am capturing analog VHSC tapes via a Sony HVR-M25U to do the A/D conversion. My inport settings are standard DV using DVCPRO. When I add my captured footage to the timeline, I see the red rendering line and I hear the blips as I playback, after rendering the clip plays fine. Is there a setting I can change to avoid the rendering? Thanks!

Well, generally if your captured audio isn't exactly 48kHz, you'll have sync/drift issues...but not a need to render.
    Your settings look correct.
You might try doing an 'Export as AIFF' from FCP, then bring that audio back in and replace the original. See if that fixes the render issue.
How many tracks of audio are you working with and what are your 'User Preferences' regarding number of RT audio tracks...that could be it as well.
How long are the captures? Extended captures can give you the odd audio rates (48.011). Only solution there is to capture in chunks of say 20 minutes or so.
If you have the hardware, you might try dubbing the old tapes to MiniDV and capturing from those. This takes more time, costs more money, but then you should have solid workable timecode, should you ever need to recapture the media.
Capture now/non-controllable creates it's own timecode, which will never capture identically again.

  • More Than One Hour Footage Audio Rendering Issue in Adobe Media Encoder (from AE)

    Hi every one,
I'm having a render issue when I send an After Effects composition longer than 1 hour to Adobe Media Encoder for encoding H264 files. In this case, I'm trying to render an already rendered 70 min. 23,976 fps DPX sequence paired with a corresponding ".wav" audio file into the composition and the H264 file rendered by AME plays silent for the first 10 minutes and past those 10 "silent" minutes the audio comes back normally during the last 59 min and 59 sec exactly.
I've tryed every posible "solution" (changing the audio file from .wav to .aiff and .mp3) and assigning more ram to Adobe Media Encoder and it renders the same every single time.
    Please Help!!!!
    Oscar.

If you can't track down the audio problems some other way you have two options. Render to a production codec in AE then compress your production master in AME or tender only your subtitles (or use dynamic link) to a lossless with alpha format in AE and marry them to the original video and audio in PPro.
Actually, the first thing I would have tried when audio problems showed up would have been to render a production master using a visually lossless format like QuickTime JPEG 2000 and then compressed in the AME.

  • After Effects CC 2014 plays/renders incorrect audio for mp3 (Mac OS X Yosemite)

    Hi,
I'm translating the audio for a number of animations made in AE. Sometimes when the mac users import new audio in another language, AE plays and renders a totally different mp3 file than what has been imported. It is playing another piece of translated audio from another folder but I can't tell where from (as it's in another language).
When I click reveal in Finder, the track in Finder plays the correct audio.
When I re-import after purging and emptying caches, AE still plays the wrong audio.
I found a work around where if I copy and re-name the audio and import that it works. The problem is, we can't tell when this has occurred until reviews have been performed and it's costing us a lot of time in re-renders and fixing.
Does anyone know what causes this problem? Has anyone even encountered it?
    Any advice is much appreciated.

Does anyone know what causes this problem?
Sure: You are using MP3 files. AE never has been good with them. Convert them to WAV/ AIFF.

  • Final Cut keeps rendering the wrong damned thing, or worse!

    Hi fellow Mac heads,
It's an intermittent problem but every now and then but say I put a colour correction or two on some video, drop in an alpha graphic and perhaps drop in an mp3 music with a view to render before play out. Everything works as expected and looks fine playing out of the timeline in preview mode.
I hit the render button and go to play out of the now rendered timeline to discover one of the following things has happened:
1: Sometimes FCP renders the wrong part of the music, it starts from halfway through even though the waveforms still indicated the song starting where i told it to! Rerender, same thing. chuck on a token eq filter-rerender, and it's fine!
2: Sometimes it renders things, most commonly Motion alpha graphics with a pink hue. go for a re render and it's fine.
3: most dangerous and annoyingly, the audio will just distort and scream for half a second. re render and it's fine.
Now this has been haunting me since buying my macpro with fcp 5.1 and osx tiger back in '06. Now it with a new OSX 10.6.1and new FCP 7, I'm finding not only am I still plagued by this problem, It's actually getting worse!
Anyone else suffer my woe here?

    Welcome to the discussions...
You shouldn't use MP3's for audio - convert them to AIFF first. FCP can become confused if some of your clips have the same name (like Untitled).
Also, ensure all the items are checked for rendering:
Finally, a good way to remove a render to ensure a re-render is to click on a clip and type ctrl-b twice (that's ctrl-b ctrl-b). This disables/enables the clip, tossing its renders.

  • I was editing on FCE and suddenly my entire project needed to be rendered AGAIN.

WHAT'S UP WITH THIS? Here's what happened: I put music in a line and then rendered it. Then music/titles/extra lines disappeared and red line to render reappeared. The whole format just looks different. Could this have to do with the fact that I started this project on iMovie? That doesn't seem likely since I exported it as XML and it was working perfectly until this. Help??

If the audio is not AIFF 16bit/48khz, you will be continuously rendering.
Best to convert any audio to AIFF 16bit/48khz before bringing it into Final Cut. You can use iTunes to do it.
    Good luck.

  • Error rendering Menu in iDVD

I am trying to burn a movie using iDVD. And I seem to always have this problem, but the answers I get, will solve it then, but now I am doing everything right, yet it still is giving me a problem.
I am getting an error during the rendering of the menu. The audio clip I am using I converted to Aiff since I know the latest update of iDVD is having problems with mp3/mp4 audio formats, I am using a theme that only has the background pick. I have no slideshows, just a movie button, and changed the title of the theme. Yet I get an error.
Would the movie I put into the movie button be causing the error?
I had problems with the movie, so I had to snatch the audio from it, and then convert both the audio and video using ffmpegX, and then I muxed them using D Vision 3. And now the finished project ends in (mp4.ff (mux).avi). Will that not work in iDVD?
Toast will accept it, but I'd rather have it burnt using iDVD. Anyone have any ideas?
    thanks in advance...
    veganjustice

I tried importing into iMovie using the orginal, and it won't accept it. It is in mp4 format.
    Here is what I did.
I had a movie, worked perfectly in VLC, but QT wouldn't play it. So I converted it using ffmpegX, and then the finished product played fine in QT, but there was no sound.
So someone on videohelp told me to extract the audio, and then mux the finished video, and audio. Which worked. QT would play it with sound and video.
So what I have now, is the orginal, just the video, just the audio, and the muxed version. haha.
Which should I import into iMovie? Since it won't take the orginal?
thanks, sorry this is so long.
