Rendering Interlaced Targa Sequence - Frames Missing

I have an AE CS3 project.
I'm using a transition in my project - Dissolve - ripple.
I've previewed my comp and everything looks just how I want it.
I setup the render queue to export my comp as a Targa Sequence (24-Bit) Interlaced. The render runs fine. However when I previewed my targa sequence in both bridge and in Premiere Pro CS3 - the frames containing the Dissolve - ripple are totally black. All I see is the text layer that was above the layers that had the Dissolve - ripple transition.
As a test, I exported to a DV-AVI Interlaced - previewed it in PPro CS3 and I'm having the same problem with the AVI file.
Does anyone know why that won't render to a Targa Sequence or AVI (for Interlaced Vide)?
Thanks
FOO

I can repro this. The source footage has to be interlaced and you have to render to interlaced. I played around a little- it doesn't occur if you reorder the effects. It seems to have something to do with the animated Opacity control on the Solid Composite effect in the preset. I can also make it happen with completely different effects (Bulge and Fractal Noise), as long as the second effect has an Opacity control that is animated.
I filed a bug with Adobe about it.

  • Rendering targa sequence with only alpha

Can I render a targa sequence with only alpha channel (RGB transparent, not black)? So that if I open a frame in Photoshop the RGB channels are transparent and only the alpha channel has content.
I'm going to use the alpha channel in another software as a mask (but it has to imported as a image sequence, can't choose only alpha). That means that if there is anything in the RGB channels I'll see it on screen where the alpha is...

I don't quite follow. Alpha cannot exist without RGB pixels, as in technical terms it's not transparency, but the blending amount between foreground (pixels in the image) and background (other pixels that will be placed below). If exporting the Alpha as a b/w matte does not serve your needs, then apply the Alpha to a black solid in a black comp and export that.

  • Targa Sequence No Good

I rendered out a 24 bit Targa sequence from After Effects and tried to drop the files in the browser from Finder, but no good. File Error: File Unkown
I've created a Targa file in Photoshop and that file takes so what gives? 16 bit doesn't work either.

I'm assuming the method in the manual involves bringing in the sequence as one frame clips and editing them into a sequence sequentially. This will really hang up the program. I worked on an animation piece a few years ago where I was getting image sequences from England and started working this way. The system got slower and slower until I changed my workflow to using the quicktime player method. The software has a problem keeping track of so many clips particularly if it's a complicated project.

  • Rendering  a nested sequence...

    Hi,
I have searched about 20 previous render issues but nothing with my lameness... I have a whole load of short sequences with chapter markers, may I nest them into one sequence, render, then split them and convert to QT or will I have to render them again as I have taken them out of their rendered location... I'm just looking for the most efficient time scale/workflow?
Thank you (for your patience as I may be missing the point of what rendering is here).

Thank you (for your patience as I may be missing the point of what rendering is here).< </div>
Missing the point of rendering cannot easily be cleared up, gotta send you to the manual for careful study.
If you do not to render any sequence more than once, you must export it and then reimport the rendered movie as new media. Now your sequence is just another clip.
This is just one way to work with nests. It is supremely efficient but you must plan your production to use this method. If you make any changes to your upstream nest, you must re-render, re-export, re-import, and replace the previous clip with the new one. Most newbies don't understand that; they expect changes in the upstream to automatically cascade down through their sequences.
You can do that, that's why they're called nests, but nothing gets rendered until you do as Tom suggests, render it deliberately. Then, if you make any upstream changes, the changes are reflected in all of your other uses of the nest but they shall all become unrendered.

  • Rendering an Image Sequence ... I hope!

After a few hours of rendering a particularly complex project, Motion crashes leaving my movie unfinished and corrupt. So I am switching to rendering an Image Sequence. Therefore, when it crashes, I won't loose the entire render.
The odd thing is that I am not seeing any still images appear on the hard drive. I expected to see each image show up in my save directory as they are rendered, but several hundred frames into the render there is still nothing there (or anywhere on the disc). Is this typical behavior?
My render still has several hours to go before it completes (or crashes). Am I in for an unpleasant surprise?

    Found the problem!
When rendering as PICT, motion goes through the rendering process, but saves no images (at least on my system) for some unknown reason.
When rendering as SGI, TIFF or PNG, images are saved. No problem.
I did not test any other image formats, but stay away from PICT. I am happily rendering now in PNG.

  • Video captured in iMovie is split with frames missing

I have a client who sends me video to edit for him in FCP that he captures in iMovie.
Always around the 15 minutes mark there is a break in the footage. Looking in the 'iMovie Events' folder I see two files clip-2165-02-15 22;26;25.mov & clip.mov.
clip.mov is the first part and clip-2165-02-15 22;26;25.mov is the second part.
This would not if when I joined them in the FCP timeline they matched up, but there seems to be a few frames missing.
Does anyone one know what is going on?

FCP's 20 year old, nomenclature and file management are clumsy and capturing is unstable.
FCP isn't even 10 years old. Not even the app that Apple bought and made into FCP is 10 years old yet. And I beg to differ on the capturing being unstable. If it was so unstable, why would over 1 million people be using it? Why would over half of the production companies in Los Angeles be using it if it was so awful and unstable? No. The application is very stable, and very easy to use. If it isn't working right, then something is wrong... Bad tape, bad deck, bad cable, bad install of the app, machine issues, user error.
I've often captured footage in iMove that was causing too much grief in FCP Or when I actually wanted separate clips on TC breaks.
iMovie captures without timecode, nor reel numbers. That is a hugely important thing for professional editors. That is the basis for good file management, and since iMovie lacks that, it's worse at file management then FCP. A professional wouldn't work without TC and reel numbers. It also captures in a codec that mixes audio and video in ways that make the format uneditable in FCP without rendering.
And, BTW, FCP will make separate clips. It has a SCENE DETECTOR that will break up a big clip into subclips (or does it just add markers)...if you want that "easy button."
Attempting to capture this footage in FCP would probably just cause even more headaches.
    What footage?
And there are at least as many threads about capturing problems in FCP as there are "iMovie footage" threads. The two are directly correlated.
No...iMovie is consumer, FCP is professional. And capturing problems can be caused by one of a dozen reasons. I listed them above.
If Apple isn't going to fix FCP the least they can do is allow iMovie to share the codecs that are installed with FCP and encourage cross compatibility rather than hobbling it.
Allow FCP to use consumer codecs? Lacking timecode and reel numbers? Ugh...I hope not. And what is broken about FCP? Is EVERYONE having the SAME capture issue? You see a few dozen posts about how capturing footage doesn't work and you think EVERYONE has the issue? With over 1 million FCP copies out there, unless you saw nearly that many posts about the issue, it isn't something that is broken in the application. It is an isolated event happening to a few people.
Looking at posts on FCP is much like sitting in a hospital waiting room. You only see the problems that occur. If you see a dozen people coming in with broken arms, you now assume that EVERYONE has a broken arm? Or that with all these sick people wandering about, that the whole town is sick? No, only a small percentage is sick.

  • Targa sequence, how to import it only with Final Cut

Anyone knows how to import a targa sequence, without first making it a quicktime movie with QTPP(pro)?
I know the method of the 1 frame duration of a still, I want the final cut to recognize the targa sequence as a SEQUENCE...
Is that too much too ask from such an editing platform like Final Cut? I hope NOT

    do not have QTPP
    I read about that way
any way to do it without QTPP?
normal QT does not allow me to export in alpha channel...as my graphics are supposed to play on top of shots not on their own...
I'm desperate, have to deliver the project 2 days from now and I'm not good in compromising with anything at all...
    thanks you in advance...

  • Access Sequence JEXC missing after upgrade to EHP7

    Dear Experts,
we are facing an error while saving excise invoice through transaction J1IIN in development system after upgrade to EHP 7, Access sequence JEXC missing  ( ) Message no. VE306, could you please suggest to find out solution.
    Regards,

    Dear All,
Thanks for helping with your valuable suggestions, finally i got solution of it,
The root cause of this problem was the change in the table T682I by theEHP7 upgrade. The fields KOTABNR has been changed from NUMC(3) to CHAR(3).With NUMC type the wrong statement works anyway. With CHAR type it retrieves no records. thus creating this error message, so it was a pure ABAP programming error. i am closing this discussion once again thanks to all.

  • Targa Sequence files in Photoshop CS5

I have imported 300 Targa sequence files into photoshop layers. I'am trying to set 150 to multiply and combine them with the corrosponding numbered layer with the image I'am trying to multiply.
Currently I have all the layers, however is there any way to automate the merging process to save time, or do I need to manually sequence the layers, select multipy on the layer one at a time, and merge with the corrosponding layer for each one prior to exporting all layers to files? I would hope there is a tool to import two seprate Targa sequences and adjust one to multiply then merg the layers back in sequence... ?? ..

Did you drag it into Photoshop on top of an already open canvas to open it?  Try dragging it to the BORDER of Photoshop instead.

  • Display Current Sequence Frame?

I'm trying to output the current/active sequence frame to a front
panel indicator. Is there a direct way to hook into the sequence
structure indicator, or will I have to stich a increment function
throughout all the frames with multiple sequence locals. It would be
nice to be able to programatically access the sequence structure's
total frame count and current frame for use as a program progress
    indicator.

You could replace the Sequence structure with a Case inside a While loop. Wire the iteration of the While loop to the Case selector and to the terminal for the front panel indicator. Each case represents one frame in the Sequence. Each case will have a boolean constant wired to the Continue terminal of the While loop: in each case but the last, the constant will be True; in the last case it will be False.
Sorry this isn't the simple answer you were looking for. This approach also works well if you have a sequence which you normally execute end-to-end, but, for some conditions, you may want to end the sequence early. Then just replace the boolean constant with a boolean expression within each case that determines whether or not to continue based on the events i
    n that case.

  • Exporting Targa Sequence and Alpha Channel

I have a couple of targa sequence containing graphics that I need to export. One has an opaque arrow which rolls out over the film underneath. The second has solid text which will be laid over the arrow as it animates. I have run the image sequences in Quicktime, the arrow sequence comes out as a block of black and the solid text comes out against a black background instead of an alpha channel and I can't seem to manipulate them. I have FCP 6 which i thought had Quick Time Pro to handle alpha channels. What am I doing wrong, can anyone help?

    hi,
    what exactly are you doing?
why are you exporting from quicktime? why dont you import the image sequence directly into motion/fcp? Not saying you;re wrong, just wondering that 's all.
Have you got the export settings correct. Not many codecs support alpha channels. Your best bet is Animation set to Millions of colours +. the + is the alpha channel.
However motion or fcp should be able to read the image files just fine.

  • Export quicktimes as targa sequence with embedded alpha in HD

I'm receiving some HD Quicktime files tomorrow which I understand have an embedded alpha channel. I need to export them as targa image sequences, which I've never done in FCP before.
Will the alpha remain embedded in the targa sequence?
What TGA option do I choose (eg: million of colors, millions of colors+)?
Will I wind up with "high definition" targas? I understand HD Targas are just giant-sized images, is that right?
Anything else I should be aware of?
    thanks

Open the Files in QuickTime Player. No need to use FCP.
File > Export > Movie To Image Sequence > Options > TGA.
Make sure to create a dedicated folder as the destination...

  • How can I perform a "jump" or a "goto" from a sequence frame to a previous one?

At a point of my program, I need to jump from a sequence frame to a previous one. How can I do it?
    Thank you.

    Hi
That is not possible! You cannot jump from one frame to another frame. A workaround is to replace a sequence structure with a case structure insight a while loop. When you wire the iteration terminal of the loop to the selector terminal of the case structure you have a "sequence structure" with the advantage to stop it in each frame. Returning to your question: Work with a state machine approach! For that you need a case structure insight a while loop with a shift register! So you can always say what the next frame must be.See under the VI templates for an example! => National Instruments\Labview\templates\state machine.vit

  • AE CS6 Renders Stop after 325 frames.

AE CS6 Renders Stop after 325 frames - or nearly: they abruptly start slowing down to 1 frame every 30 seconds until they hit a standstill, as the amount of RAM in use starts climbing suddenly until it reaches around 67%, at which point it is dead.
I'm on AE CS6 Version 11.0, freshly downloaded from the Cloud.
I am on a MacBook Pro 5,3 running Mac OSX Lion 10.7.5 with a 3.06 GHz IntelCore 2 Duo processor and an NVidia GeForce 9400M 256MB Card.
I've maxed out the RAM at 8 GB.  I'm using Quicktime Player 7.6.6 (the most up to date).
I'm just rendering a 2D Comp to Quicktime/Photo JPEG Codec with an aspect ratio of 960x540.  The comp is simple: a 1.6 MB jpg with a slight scale-up and a Liquify effect for a duration of about 4 minutes 30 (interestingly, the render stop occurs about 15 seconds before the Liquify effect starts.)
I've tried this with "Render Multiple Frames Simultaneously" on and off with no difference.  However, when it's on, Installed CPUs reads 2 and Reserved for other apps reads 0 and AE will not let me change it.  Also, Ram Allocation per Background CPU has been tried at everything from 1 GB to 3 GB.  Actual CPUs used is set to 0, and I cannot change it either.
I have no other apps open during rendering.  And there can't be a bus issue, since the AE project, the source jpg and the output location are all in the Documents folder on my hard drive.  I'm at a loss.  Any ideas or suggestions?
    Thanks

This had an interesting result:  the percentage of RAM in use no longer goes through the roof but tops out at 13%.  The render does not stop but goes painfully slowly.  At 24 hours of render time, I've now gotten to frame 1470 of 8114.  Estimated time to completion now reads 109 hours.
As I mentioned before: I'm just rendering a 2D Comp to Quicktime/Photo JPEG Codec with an aspect ratio of 960x540.  The comp is simple: a 1.6 MB jpg with a slight scale-up and a Liquify effect for a duration of about 4 minutes 30.
Or does liquify just take this much processing power?
