Rendering Issue with FCP 5
Whenever I try to render my sequences I get a "File Error: The specified file is open and in use by this or another application." And it halts my render until I click okay, which is a problem as I leave sequences to render overnight and they're not complete in the morning because of this. The only thing I've found to get around it is to delete all render files before hand and that seems to minimize its occurence, but not always. I don't think that's an acceptable compromise because then it takes so long to re-render everything. Any ideas to permanently solve this? Thanks!

Rendering issues with imported Motion project in FCP
I have various titles for a DVD prepared in Motion that are imported as project files into Final Cut Pro.
When playing back the rendered timeline in FCP to a TV, the animation on these titles (scaling and moving of text and untextured, 100% opaque rectangles) looks fine. When I render the timeline to a QuickTime (DV PAL) they still look fine on a monitor, though obviously not a great test on a progressive display.
After using Compressor (and a suitable preset for PAL content) and burning to a disc from DVD Studio Pro, the animation is jumpy. Some elements in the project with a Fade In/Fade Out behaviour with Fade Out duration set to 0 suddenly disappear for a short period (looks like one frame) - these objects end on the timeline in the same frame that their Fade In/Fade Out behaviour also ends.
If I render the Motion project to a QuickTime file with transparency and overlay that in FCP then follow the same route through Compressor and DVD Studio Pro everything looks as I expected... smooth motion and no disappearing elements.
Any ideas? Should I just keep rendering Motion projects out to separate files to overlay in FCP? That seems a bit of a waste of the integration between FCP and Motion.This gives me pause: AEManager::scanForPluginsInDirectory(PCString) + 1011

Hey everyone,
I have a problem. I've been cutting DVCPRO HD 720p60 (Panasonic HVX 200 shot at 24) in the newest Final Cut and whenever I have to render a clip in my timeline, the clip content shifts backwards one frame throwing the picture out of sync. It also creates a jarring glitch as soon as the rendered media begins.
For example, I'm rendering lower thirds created in After Effects and as soon as the lower third comes on screen over the talking head, the clip below moves one frame backwards, causing a stutter where the lower third begins and a jump where it ends.
The workaround I have discovered, is simply to use the slip tool and roll the clip under the lower third one frame backwards, but this is incredibly tedious to do for the whole show.
this seems like a pretty major issue for graphics work...You don't say what revision of FCP you are using. I think there was a similar issue with dissolves that was fixed in the most recent rev. However, IIRC, the media needs to be re-imported - it was actually a problem with the import, I believe...

IPrint Renderer issue with 1.1
Hi all.
I have been running iPrint Appliance 1.0 for a while, and have followed the process to upgrade to 1.1 appliance (side-by-side export/import). This has worked fine.
I have tried to install the newer renderer software onto our current render box (Win7SP1), which works fine. However, when I try and run the 'iprntrendcmd -c', and hit enter at the prompt, I always get "Failed to configure secure communication channel". I have tried everything I can think of, but cannot get past this.
From the appliance (:9443) view, when I select Renderers, it tries to find the renderer, fails with..

Report Viewer icon rendering issue with web controls
Hi,
I have a sample application in ASP.NET 2.0 in which if I have a report viewer control in an aspx page and when I try to browse the page the report renders properly with all icons image also. But in the same application I am having a web user control that is having the report viewer control and I have added this control on another page. Now if I try to browse this page the report is rendered properly but the icon images are not displayed rather as 'X' is displayed indicating images are missing.

KajalIt sounds like the CrystalReportViewer control does not "agree" with the .NET control you are embedding it in. Can you be more specific with the exact steps to duplicate this issue? It would be helpful to know what controls you are using.
Viewing the source code will be helpful in your troubleshooting. You'll also want to review your IIS logs to see what error are popping up there. It could be that the gifs are being searched for in another location. You may need to make a copy of the crystalreportviewerxx directory in a new location.

I upgraded to 10.4.7 and QT 7.1.2 recently, and my old G4/450 Sawtooth that used to capture reliably as a second machine (while I carried on editing on a more up to date G4) has now stopped capturing properly. I get all sorts of crashes, incorrect timecodes or unexpected quits with FCP 4.5 now, since the update.
(PS: Did you really mean 10.4.6?)

Experiencing 'lag' & other issues with FCP 7.0.3 on MacBook Pro...please help!

Man, I've been having SUCH frustrations with my MBP running FCP lately - and it used to be 100% no more than 6 months ago?
Basically what happens is that the Canvas window starts lagging after a while - it sometimes looks as if the external HDD can't keep up with FCP anymore, regardless of whether I use my Mac HD as scratch drive, or my external. And I've tried it across numerous externals... I'm beginning to wonder if it's my logic board or GPU, or perhaps even my FW800 port?
Also, when I'm editing on my timeline and add new clips to the edit, this behaviour picks up. Sometimes, when I'm scrubbing or skipping through clips on the timeline, the Canvas displays funky green frames, starts laggin, or the worst: the frames between one cut and another jump around like crazy, even if I just play back at normal speed.
I've done everything I could - cleared space on my Mac HD (it's now got more than 50% free), repaired and verified disk permissions, run AppleJack, etc. etc.
Does anyone know what it could be? I'm seriously considering a fresh install of Mac OS X 10.6 and FCS2, as well as upgrading from 4Gb to 8Gb RAM, but what bothers me most is how this used to never happen, and it's not like the work I'm doing is more intense or heavier than anything I've done before.

In any case, all the footage I'm using in this project is XDCAM EX, the only difference being that some footage is 720, while other footage is 1080, and then there's also a variation in terms of interlaced and progressive footage accross the board (it's a rock band documentary, don't ask! )... Could this have something to do with it?
I kinda doubt it, cos one of the TV shows I work on has the same codec, resolution and other settings accorss the board, and I experience the same stutter on these projects... -
Canon cameras have audio sync issue with FCP?
My mini dv deck died on me so,
I am using a small palm size Canon mini dv firewire camera to transfer about 50 tapes.
I am having a weird audio sync issue.
Sometimes the capture footage plays down in sync - I pause>scroll>play - and it's suddenly out of sync. This keeps happening. Sometimes it plays in sync. Other times it does not.
Because it's hit and miss- I'm not sure I can even re-sync.
I imagine it could be the media drive (internal)- but I have other video files on this drive that play fine.
I don't often use firewire capture.
Is audio sync a common firewire issue?
Will the quality suffer if I capture through composite/analog audio outputs?
I can patch it through my
decklink card.Audio sync is an issue with Firewire, just not all the time. Usually it is fine, but a lot of Avid people don't like Firewire for this reason.
Most often it is a 5 frame sync issue. Slip your audio 5 frames forward and see if that solves the problem.
As well, take a look in your Browser after you capture a clip and see if the Aud Rate is either 48,000.5 Hz or 47,999 Hz. I have seen the clips come in as both of these. Once you slip the footage, export the audio only, then reimport and attach the audio to the clip in the timeline. Should take care of it.
Post back if these don't work. -
Rendering issue with 9.5 and 9.5.5
I have two PDF files that display a simple test image consisting of 3 colored rectangles. In one, the image is displayed with BlendMode Normal, in the other, BlendMode Multiply on a white background.
The latter causes a color shift. The files are bit-for-bit identical, except that one has /BM /Multiply and the other /BM /Normal . (Yes, the two spaces are real.) There is text on the page as well.
This was reported to me under Reader 9.5.5 under Windows XP; I have reproduced it under 9.5.0 under Windows 7.
The same files both display correctly under 11.0.03. Since the reporter is under XP, I can't tell him to upgrade.
The image is an embedded XObject that is PNG encoded.
If I look at the displayed pixel, here's what I see:

"Good" is what the original PNG image and the BlendMode Normal display. Bad is what 9.5.x displays.
The file with Multiply displays correctly under XP with GSView - so it seems definite that this is a rendering bug in Reader.
I don't see a way to attach files to this note, but I can provide the files.
What do I tell my colleague/other users? Is 9.5 being updated for this kind of bug? Or are XP users stuck with this issue?We've done some more research.
This appears to be caused by oscillations in the default transparency blending color space in various versions of Reader.
In fact, 11.0.3 has an option to select the default: it produces the color shift if "Working CMYK" is selected.
The PDF can be made to display correctly with 9.5.* by explicitly adding a /Group dictionary to the page that specifies a transparency group with an explicit colorspace.
The spec says that this is supposed to be inherited... but an explicit /Group is an adequate work-around. -
Sync issue with FCP DVCPro HD 720p 60 w/wire less mic
I just tested with DVCPro HD 720p 60 w/wire less mic, the audio was drifted in FCP. Can some please explain the specific of frame rate of video and audio sync issues.

Exporting using Compressor failed, and other awekward issues with FCP
Hi FCP gurus! I need your help!
Everytime I try to export using compressor, my submission fails.
I even try a sequence a exported as m2v on Monday, but today is not working.
Compressor will some times say "Unable to view preview, FCP is busy". When I press submit, it goes to Batch Processor but it either will immediately show FAILED or it will just not do any processing. When I quit and restart, then the submission appears as failed.
Also when exporting, FCP comes back with a pop message saying that 4 files went offline. When I try to reconnect them it says: "There are not clips selected that have files associated with them". So, why is FCP constantly not able to fine this files, if they are not been used?
I need to export a file for my soundtrack guy, and he needs MOV, preferable DV-PAL or Motion-JPEG or similar frame-based codecs. What are my options?
In any case, what the problem here is that I CANNOT export anything. What shall I do? I already restarted the computer twice, nothing.
I realized that I have files using in this project, saved in two different external harddrives, do you think this has anything to do with the issue?

Thanks so much in advance!First off, fwiw, I never "send to compressor." I export a self-contained QT movie, not a conversion. Then I run that through compressor with the appropriate settings. I like the self contained file, it becomes a master from which I can make all sorts of variations. The only difference, in theory between self contained and reference, is that if for any reason you lose the render files the reference movie will not work.

Q3 There is no such thing as uncompressed. It's just a different codec rather than a perfect copy of your timeline.
Q4 lots of reasons for making a conversion, but none of them are valid for making DVD's
Q5 Nothing wrong with letting DVDSP make the encoding-- just be sure to get into the preferences for DVDSP and set the destinations to a folder for the project, so you don't overwrite any other projects. Depending on how long the project is, you can let it encode in the bg while you set up your project, build the buttons etc. It's all the same encoding engine, whether is is done in compressor or dvdsp. I find it much faster to use compressor then to take to dvdsp becaue you can use quickcluster.
Now a couple of questions for you: what sort of footage are you using and what are your fcp sequence settings? -
Color Banding issue with FCP and Color...PLEASE HELP!!
Ok so heres whats going on and i'm hoping some can help me out here cause i'm totally lost!
So we have a film shot on HDV. The scenes are mostly dark and well lit. Everything in the FCP timeline looks great (little noisy but great). We brought it over the color and did our color grading and corrections. Once we returned back to FCP, we started seeing some major color banding. We then applied the neatvideo plug-in with helps with noise but it made it far worse.
We are rendering in 10bit but how can we remove this banding!!
Thanks again for the help!Yeah, you can't critically judge video quality on computer displays. They won't show you an accurate image. Unfortunately, there is no way to send a signal to a video display (HDTV, broadcast monitor) for this purpose from an imac.

Rendering issues with Canon G11 and h264
I am - for the moment - stuck with some projects that involve importing video from a Canon G11, which saves video in h264 .mov format in 640 X 480 pixels at 30 fps. I keep getting red rendering lines when I transcode these filesinto Apple Intermediate Codec in MPEG Streamclip for importing into Final Cut Express 4.0.1 on MacBook Pro running 10.6.7. What settings should I be using to avoid the red render lines?
1/ Should I use the 640 X 480 (4:3) setting in Streamclip or the 640 X 480 (unscaled)? Or another one?
2/ What should the sequence preset be in FCE since there is none for 640 X 480?
3/ And what is the difference between setting the codec in East Setup and in setting it by clicking on the Sequence 'Settings' dropdown menu and going to 'Load Sequence Presets? Which one of those should I choose?
4/ Also, I am for the moment having to work off the MacBook's hard drive since the person who purchased the LaCie external Firewire drive purchased the one that encrypts and has a fingerprint swipe and not the orange regular one we asked for. So they have to send it back. Might working off the hard drive be causing any rendering glitches?

For instance, Thursday I added a bunch of work to my sequence and things that I did earlier in the day did not save but things that I did later on in the day did save. There is no clear reasoning to me behind the things that are saving and those that are not. Some transitions, new footage and new audio saved. While on the other hand some new audio, transitions and new footage were lost. The same thing happened on Friday when I finished putting all the changes that were lost back in and saved, I opened it today and it was gone again. Even the autosave files only have some of the new work in it and not everything that was done.
I am also finding that the black and red designated for "media offline" is appearing on my video clips in my sequence. They are not offline though. And one some of the clip images the black and red only covers parts of the clip image in the sequence. But they still play fine. It never indicates when playing that the files are "offline." I have even tried to create a new project and sequence and copy and paste everything into the new project.
Any suggestions?

Dual G5 Mac OS X (10.4.9)Are you sure that you haven't change the name or location that you are saving to... in other words, is it possible you saved multiple copies of this project with different names?
As for the "black and red" image in the timeline, sounds like the clip may be offline, but FCP is still connected to and playing back a render file. You might try deleting the existing render files and Render Cache.
If the weirdness persists, you might also try trashing FCP Preferences. Download FCP Rescue to help with this. First time you use it, backup, then trash preferences, do not restore.
