Rendering issues with imported Motion project in FCP

I have various titles for a DVD prepared in Motion that are imported as project files into Final Cut Pro.
When playing back the rendered timeline in FCP to a TV, the animation on these titles (scaling and moving of text and untextured, 100% opaque rectangles) looks fine. When I render the timeline to a QuickTime (DV PAL) they still look fine on a monitor, though obviously not a great test on a progressive display.
After using Compressor (and a suitable preset for PAL content) and burning to a disc from DVD Studio Pro, the animation is jumpy. Some elements in the project with a Fade In/Fade Out behaviour with Fade Out duration set to 0 suddenly disappear for a short period (looks like one frame) - these objects end on the timeline in the same frame that their Fade In/Fade Out behaviour also ends.
If I render the Motion project to a QuickTime file with transparency and overlay that in FCP then follow the same route through Compressor and DVD Studio Pro everything looks as I expected... smooth motion and no disappearing elements.
Any ideas? Should I just keep rendering Motion projects out to separate files to overlay in FCP? That seems a bit of a waste of the integration between FCP and Motion.

This gives me pause: AEManager::scanForPluginsInDirectory(PCString) + 1011
I'd check for any third party plugins...

  • Importing Motion projects in FCP

I am importing a motion project in to FCP, the motion project is a NTSC anamorfic project in 8 bit. When i import it into the FCP project witch matches the motion project, the render for ten seconds of video says it takes 1 hour. why does this render take so long, it DV video, the things in my motion project are only to CAMP FIRE partical Emiter and one tiff photo. WHY SUCH A LONG RENDER?

I encounter the same thing every now and then. And that is pretty much only with dv projects. The biggest factor I've seen is a graphic file that is much too high resolution. But often that is not the problem. At that point I export a quicktime and edit that into FCP. Sure it negates roundtripping but at that point it's usually just getting the job out the door.

  • Rendering problems with a motion project

    Hi there,
    can anyone help?
I have a fairly simple motion graphic which i am trying to use in an FCP edit. The Motion project is some moving text with a simple background. The project renders fine in RAM in Motion.
The problem is that when I try and render this in FCP, the background becomes very distorted-the graphics are fine but the background isn't.
Is there anything I can do to rectify this? Any settings etc?
Any help would be very gratefully received!
    thanks

You need to give the exact specifications of your Motion project and of the media in your FCP sequence and of the sequence in which the clips and the Motion project are being assembled.

  • Problem importing Motion project into FCP (images 'wobbly' and 'jaggedy')

I'm at wit's end here. I did a short 10 second intro for a press reel in Motion that is pretty basic and looks good in Motion (it's just images from the show flying across the screen, with a cloud emitter as background). The problem is that when I import it into Final Cut Pro, the images get all jittery and wobbly. It looks as if they are going in and out of different interlacing stages, which makes no sense.
The images were taken from the theater's website, and I have have tried them both in JPG and PSD formats. They are all being scaled down from the original size a touch after I import them into Motion (would that be the problem? Didn't think to try that...). As I said, they look fine and clear in Motion, but when I export into a Quicktime movie or render it and play it back in Final Cut Pro, they get all jaggedy/wobbly (for lack of a better technical term). Stills exported from the Motion file look fantastic in Photoshop (and in Final Cut Pro when I use them as background) but a paused image in Final Cut Pro looks very jagged.
I've tried everything I can think of, and even upped all the render settings in the project, to no avail. Any ideas/suggestions?

Sure. I'm uploading two files. One at www.jonathanfrank.com/FCPTest.mov, contains two 10 second movies back to back. The first clip is the project I created from scratch, the second clip is a test I did using a Motion template that I was 'inspired' by. Both were exported from Motion w/Field set to 'none' and export settings set to 'animation' Both looked pretty good when the exported file was opened in Quicktime. I imported the files and rendered them in FCP (and noticed that Field got set to Low/Even along the way somehow) and then exported them into Quicktime via FCP.
I also am uploading the original file of my project that I exported from Motion to see the difference at www.jonathanfrank.com/poetintro1.mov
Due to the size, it's not as easy to see the 'jitter' It was really noticeable when I imported the Travel template sans photos (so you just saw the grey "replace here" images with the circles and grids). It looks passable in the movies, but when Printed to Video, played in FCP (or played in the full-sized format in Quicktime) it's a lot more obvious what I'm talking about.
Basically, the motion just isn't smooth. It's very jagged and jittery, and the definition is dreadful.
Thanks for all your help and interest, by the way. And hope this

  • PreProCs4 Rendering Issue with Imported QuickTime Movie

I made a hand drawn colour animation..frame by frame in Flash CS4.  I exported the file as a Quick Time Movie and imported it into Prem Pro CS4.  It looked fine until I rendered it.  Now the previous and after frames show up like shadows on the actual image as it moves across the screen.  Am I missing something?  I read in my instruction book in Flash how to export animations so they can be used in Prem Pro so I don't understand why this is happening.  Help.....

Hi Jeff... yes.. I figured this might be the case but my frame rate in Flash is 29.97 ..which is the same frame rate of my PremPro set up.
    AVCHD Format
    1920 x 1080
    (non-anamorphic)
    16:9 ratio
    29.97 fpm
Attached is the frame shot as it should look like...minus the white work space... in Flash CS4.  I saved it exported it as an .swf file as well as a QT movie and the results are the same.
I will be combining animation with actual footage for a children's music video so I used the same frame rate for both.
I appreciate your time and interest in helping me with this.

  • White screen Motion projects in FCP

I have created a Motion Project on my father in-laws Powerbook, my old machine, and used it in a FCP project everything was fine and as it should be.
Saved the files, and brought everything to my new machine.
On this new machine it has the crossgrade version of FCP,(5.1.4) and Motion (2.1.2) on it, and when I bring the Motion file into FCP I get a white screen. Nothing else. Just 10 seconds of white. The project plays fine in Motion. I have tried to resave and re-import. Nothing. Plays perfectly fine in Motion.
I made a new project in Motion, assuming it had to do with the old files. Imported it into FCP, white screen for 10 seconds! This is a huge issue, but not sure what to do if I can't import my Motion projects into FCP.
Now this is something to considerI will throw this into the mix.......the Motion Projects do open up in my DVDSP 4.1.2.
So it opens in Motion, opens in DVDSP, but not in FCP. So its the import into FCP, not the file itself.
    What gives? Any clues......
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

OK, so I've been importing motion projects into FCP (for a while now) and rendering them each time they're changed...and finally wondered: why? If I click "open in editor", change something and go back to FCP, I should only have to re-connect it, right?
Unfortunately for us, whenever the source media - a video clip, still image, Motion or LiveType project file - changes, FCP trashes the associated render files. As far as I am aware, it's a hardwired 'housekeeping' thing within FCP.
The usual advice is to render only as a last resort, but I take it your workflow doesn't allow for that?
I busted open the FCP manual and it only said that LiveType and Motion clips must be rendered (red render bar)...but not why. Is it because they are inherently motion effects/graphics intensive?
It's because Motion or LiveType files typically do not match the codec - what FCP terms 'Compressor' in your Sequence Settings - that you're working in. Sure, the files may match the frame size and rate - for instance, 720x480 at 29.97 fps - but Motion and LiveType files are 'interpreted' as Animation codec files. If you're working in DV, for instance, you'll have to render files that are not DV. Another issue is that no machine/setup I've ever worked on can do Animation files - at Full Quality - without rendering (they are simply too data intensive). However, beefier machines can get some amount of RT playback, depending on the settings and number of tracks being composited.
Or did I misread your questions?

If I click "open in editor", change something and go back to FCP, I should only have to re-connect it, right? That's what I do in DVDSP if I need to change something on a menu I did with After Effects...export it from AE with same file name, then the file in DVDSP automatically updates (sometimes I gotta re-connect the file...).
I busted open the FCP manual and it only said that LiveType and Motion clips must be rendered (red render bar)...but not why. Is it because they are inherently motion effects/graphics intensive? I know the answer is probably just that simple, I'm just looking for some re-assurance that I'm understanding this correctly...
I'm not a noob...just trying to understand the tech side of things. That way I can be happier with my software.
    Thanks

  • Using motion projects in FCP and having problems...

A co-worker of mine is having an issue with a motion project that is being placed into FCP. Every time he imports it, the contrast is diminished and the color gets washed out making the image look VERY washed out and flat. He has even tried to export the movie with various codecs and settings, but the same thing still happens. We are cutting a movie shot on the new Sony XDCam cameras. It was shot in 720p 24FPS @ 35mbits Everything looks great except this particular motion file. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks for any help.

    hi,
It probably is faster but you just dont know it yet! If you had a day free you could time the two different methods.
Of course the second workflow comes into its own when you need to make changes. Open up the motion project and tweak. The changes automatically update in FCP. yes you have to watch in fcp, but your not outputting and reimporting etc. Also you dont have to render in fcp you can simply export.
    thanks

  • Trouble Importing Motion Projects into DVD Studio

I’m in the process of creating a Demo DVD and I was looking to use Motion to create menus and transitions in DVD Studio Pro. Every time I try to import a project I get an “Incompatible Format” error. My roommate’s iMac G5 imports Motion projects with no problems. I called Applecare to get help and was told Motion was bad and to reinstall it. I did and it didn’t work. (It was also suggested that my video card might not be good enough. Doesn’t make sense though because my roommate’s iMac does the trick.) I called back like I was told and was informed by another guy that I don’t have support available to me because the complimentary phone support expired last year. What is the world is wrong? Does anyone have any suggestions? I’m game for a complete hard drive wipe if it’ll fix the problem? My specs are below. Here are the specs of my roommate's computer:
    Processor: 2.1 GHz PowerPC G5
    RAM: 1.5 GB DDR2 SDRAM
Video Card: ATI Radeon X600 XT, 128 VRAM
    Software: Final Cut Studio Academic
    Please help me!!
    ~Thanks

One more thing, I tried opening up my project no DVDSP on my roommate's computer and it worked. His own project worked too. I brought the same files over to my computer (I opened the files both time off my thumbdrive, so they're the same files, not copies) and I got the same "Incompatable Format" error.
I also cannot import Motion projects into FCP either, but both my roommates can.

  • Error message when importing motion files into FCP

    In FCP.
I choose a clip/clips in my sequence. Then choose send to motion project and follow the directions from the training dvd.
By unchecking (embed "motion" content) then save the file with a different name. Then continue with making my graphics over the video clip/clips.
When I am done I then shut off the video layer of the clip in the motion timeline. Then I save the project. Then close Motion and try to import the motion project in FCP.
When I try to import, I get an error message stating "File Error: 1 files(s) recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unknown."
I go back to the training file to try the same procedure and it works fine.
Go back to my own project and it doesn't work.
    Any ideas? Anyone?
    I have a Mac Pro 2.66GHz / 5 gigs of ram / 512 vram ATI graphics card
Also working with universal software for FCP studio.
    Intel 2.66GHz Mac OS X (10.4.9)
    Intel 2.66GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    OK???
Don't know what the deal is. But I made a new sequence in my project and copied my other sequence with in the new one and then tried to do the whole clip step for step process of send to motion and importing back in and it worked!!!!
I check all the listed settings of my sequence in my browser window and both the old sequence and new sequence are the same.
I am happy that I can move on with my work, yet I am frustrated with the fact that I am not sure exactly what the problem is.
    Thank You Again!

  • Importing Motion Files to FCP

I've searched for this problem and have yet to find a thread with a conclusion - please point me in the right direction if I've missed it.
I'm running Motion 3.0.2 and FC Pro 6.0.6 along with OS 10.4.11. I'm due to upgrade all these asap - but as I'm in the middle of a long project I'm holding back. I've never been able to import Motion files into FCP either by using Import or dragging into the browser - I get a "File Error: Unknown File" message. Instead I make a QT file and work on that. Usually I don't have many files in a sequence so that's never really ben a problem.
However, I've now putting together some much longer sequences and it's a pain when shots need tweaking to have to re-make QTs each time.
I've trashed both Motion and FCP preferences without luck. I have Snow Leopard sitting waiting to be installed. Could that fix the problem? Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.
    Andy

    hi,
seem to remember someone else having this problem, have you repair permissions etc on your system. Can you double click a motion file for it to open from the Finder. Does the Finder know they are Motion files and should be opened by Motion? er can't think of anything else

  • JDev 10.1.3.3 - issues with imported Business Components

    Hi,
I have got some issues with importing Business Components in JDev 10.1.3.3.
I cannot discover/use the imported components.
What I did is the folowing:
    1. In a existing project I extended the default base-classes to create our own layer
    2. created a project called ModelShared
2a. configured the project to use the base-classes I created in step 1
    2b. created an entitybased-viewobject (RefCodesByDomain)
    2c. created bc deployment-descriptors
    3. created a project called RelatieModel in the same workspace as ModelShared
3a. added dependencies to the deployment-descriptors as well as the project created in step 2
3b. configured the project to use the base-classes I created in step 1
    3c. imported business components
Although I did not recieve any errors during the import of business components, I am unable to add the vo (RefCodesByDomain) to a service.
I do see the package which contains the vo but is has no entries.
Importing the business components to a new BC Project in a seperate workspace did succeed (I could reuse the vo).
I tested a little further and the folowing occurred:
    4. I created a new vo in the ModelShared Project
    5. I deployed the ModelShared
    6. Restarted JDeveloper
    7. Got the folowing error message in the console window when expanding a service in my datacontrol pallette:
    INFO: oracle.adf.share.config.ADFConfigFactory No META-INF/adf-config.xml found

    8. In my other "fresh" bc project I was able to use the newly created vo.
    9. When I added a VO to my shared project, all projects that are refering to the shared project loose their vo's in the data-controlpannel
    Do you have any suggestions?

  • Issues with transferring CS5 project with Adobe Dynamic Links to CS5.5

    Hello all!
Has anybody encountered the issue with transferring CS5 projects with Adobe Dynamic Links to CS5.5?
When I try to do it the movie hangs on at some clips which are AE compositions...
    The CS5 project works perfectly.
All AE CS5 compositions are transerred to AE CS5.5 compositions.
All 'old' Adobe Dynamic Links in Pr CS5.5 project are changed to 'new' ones (I mean, links to AE CS5 composition changed to links to AE CS5.5 compositions)...
    Any help will be appreciated

Tried to play around. Realised that a solution should be somewhere around re-rendering, 'cos linked AE compositions were always displayed in yellow as if they were original footages - even I changed a composition within AE, just transitions, if they were, changed to red in Pr Pro sequence...
However, I was unable to re-render 'Entire Work Area' even after deleting all Render Files, just 'Effects in Work Area'...
Then I simply created a new sequence and copied and pasted all the clips from original sequence. Now I was allowed to 'Render Entire Work Area'.
    Voilà!

  • Issues with importing from excel

I have been running into a several issues with importing from Excel.
    First my configuration
I am running SQL Developer ver 1.5.5 Build MAIN-5969
I am on a Windows XP Professional Version 2002 with Service Pack 3
I am importing into an Oracle 10g database.
    1. SQL Developer doesn't work on Excel 2007, I have to save all my files into Excel 97-2003 format before I can use them.
    2. If I run into an error loading and stop the process, SQL Developer doesn't release the Excel file and I get a sharing violation if I try to save the spreadsheet without closing SQL Developer.
    3. I have found that I have to set print area to the area I want to work with, otherwise the import wizard tries to keep adding rows.
    4. When using the Import wizard, it keeps adding commas on fields with numerics unless I specify the column in excel as text. Currently the column is formatted as General in the spreadsheet or I can change the wizard format to say the column is an integer, but it actually is just a code field with numeric characters so it may have leading zeroes that I need to keep.
    This might be related,
I have a column in excel defined as text but only contains numerics. It is of length 4, but the wizard sets a precision of 5 with a datatype of VARCHAR2. If I try to change it to 4, I get an error saying the field is not large enough. Yet, when I do a LEN on the column, it only gives me a 4. I have other fields in the same sheet that a 3 position numeric and 2 position numeric and those are fine. I am thinking this is related to the comma being inserted in a numeric field for anything greater than 3 positions.
    5. Importing excel dates to oracle dates doesn't work. I have to convert the excel date column to text then import as a VARCHAR, then convert to Date once in the database.
    6. The default of nullible is not set on any columns and I have to set them before the import. (I would prefer it set to nullible and I have to uncheck the box to make it not nullible. I would prefer to import all of the data and then deal with the nulls after they have been pulled in)
    7. When I select header columns included it uses that as the column names. Is it possible to do the name length check then? It has bit me a few times where I try to import and forget to check the name length and then I get an error when I start running the import.
    8. If one of the columns to import has all nulls, then the precision comes out to 0 and if it isn't changed an error occurs on import. Could this situation default to a precision of 1?
    9. It would be nice if there was a completion message displayed and a cancel option while running.

    On point 3.
I have a column in excel that consists of numbers. 4 digit numeric codes. Ex, 1111, 2345, etc
The column's format is general. It displays as just 4 numbers.
When I start the wizard initially, the column appears with data as 1,111, 2,345, etc, on the Data Preview screen.
It determines the precision to be 5 on the column definition screen.
If I change the precision to 4 then continue, that field will error out when I verify with "not big enough to hold the data in source columns"
If, I change the excel column to a TEXT column.
Excel still displays as 1111, 2345, etc
The wizard then displays the same data 1111, 2345 on the Data Previeiw screen
Yet, when I get to the column definition screen it still sizes it as a 5
If I change it to a 4, I get the same error when verifying.
If I leave them alone as 5, then it processes just fine.

Greyed imaged in the Import dialog box mean you have already imported the photos into Lightroom, so there is no need and no benefit to importing them a second time.
Just go to the Library module, search for the desired photos, and resume working on these photos.
