Rendering motion files

So I am rendering these files that I made in motion in the FCP timeline. But when I want to play them back after rendering is completed fcp reverts to the non-rendered file. I feel like sisyphus. Please help!! Where are the rendered files going??

I've had that problem with fonts not rendering properly, dunno if it's the same but make sure the effect is installed in your system library and not just your user library.

  • Final Cut renders motion files, but displays them as blank

I ran into a problem today with final cut. I had a clip I wanted to stabilize, so I selected the clip, right clicked, and sent to a motion project, stabilized the clip all fine in motion, saved it, and returned to final cut. Like it is supposed to, the click reappeared, but as the motion file. It needed to be rendered, so i rendered just that clip, and then tried to play it back, and everything was blank in that clip. There was audio, and no video. I would like to figure out why its blank.
Any suggestions, I'm running the latest version of final cut and everything is up to date.
Your assistance is greatly appreciated, and happy new year!

almost impossible to tell from here. First thing to try is to export the clip from Motion, render it from Motion, and open that movie. If it's blank, well, you've got a problem with the source media and we start with a long list of other questions. You'll probably solve this yourself by trying to make the process as simple as possible, open a new project, import a short clip (SmoothCam tends to analyze the entire source clip unless you know how not to do that), and process it from FCP, there's no need to send it to Motion for SmoothCam.

  • File Not Found when rendering motion menus

I'm rendering motion menus in CS4. Most of them are successfully rendered but two haven't rendered yet: "FAQ A 13" and "FAQ A 14". When the rendering process gets about 3/4 of the way through FAQ A 13, I get "File Not Found" error.
There is no indication in the error box of WHICH file was not found (thanks Adobe). It doesn't seem like it can be 13, since it already successfully found 3/4 of the file. But I'd be surprised if it was 14 because 13 should have taken another 15-20 seconds of rendering before 14 was attempted.
Anyone experienced something like this and have some insight?
    Thanks

Solved it (sort of): I chose a different transcode preset to force a re-transcode of the video background. Re-rendering motion menus was successful after that.
Strange though that the transcoded file was corrupted/missing (it was fresh as I had imported the asset this session).
Also strange that Encore would transcode background assets to mpeg2 before rendering the motion menu; wouldn't it have to recompress to mpeg2 after compositing the additional elements, and lose quality?

  • FCP has Motion file rendering problems

I am using FCP Studio 2 on a Dual-core 2.66GHz Intel Xeon Mac Pro.
I am importing Motion projects into my FCP timeline and have been getting problems.
When I first imported motion projects into my 720p24fps timeline they rendered clean. Now occassionally they either need to be re-rendered, not all of them, or they render and then when played FCP gives me the Unrendered screen when it is rendered in the timeline.
This is the most current problem. I have chosen within my FCP timeline to send a video file to motion to process the green screen. After processing the GS in Motion I save the project and return to FCP. In FCP I rendered the video files, including the motion file, in my timeline and some of them worked great. My recent render however has produced hits in my motion graphics background layer while retaining clarity in my Motion GS video.
Does anyone have any idea as to what I might be experiencing?
    I have screen shots.
    Thanks,

Okay, so here is what I did to fix the hits that are occuring in my Motion files within my FCP timeline.
I had to cut out the underlying Motion project background from behind my green screen Motion treated foreground. Then I reapplied the Motion project background layer and re-rendered. Now, it's working.
So Motion and FCP dev teams, is this common or is it something I'm doing wrong? If you have time of course.

  • Green renders from Motion files?

I rendered a Motion 3.0.2 file using the Export using Compressor command. The Motion file was a 720p 23.98 fps HDV file. The render setting was the standard QT RS 422 preset. I rendered twice and got a lovely green screen. Any idea why this is happening? BTW I rebooted my computer.

I would suggest doing a standard render out of Motion by using the File > Export command. Just use the default settings that will create a QuickTime movie with Animation as the codec. You can then take that movie into Compressor and encode to whatever format you'd like.

  • How do I include Motion files in FCP "media manager" exports?

All files with a .mtn do not transfer correctly when I use media manager to duplicate a project: I get the red-dotted frame and even when I try to reconnect the frame, once rendered, remains black. I was wondering if there is a way to export Motion files there were created by exporting from FCP and "embedded" in Motion.
    Thank you for the help!

  • Sending Motion files to Color?

I'm trying to send a clip from fcp that was previously manipulated in Motion, to Color. When I send the clip into Color the sequences that were worked in Motion show as red empty boxes indicating the need to be "reconnected to media". I cant find the media. In FCP the clip "sequence 1.motn" renders properly. Is it possible to send a .motn file to Color or am I just missing where the .motn file is stored. Am I not understanding a technical point.

You need to export the motion project to QT, place in FCP timeline then send to Color. Color is unable to import motion files. See Color User Manual page 84 for a list of compatible QT codecs that are allowed to be imported into Color.

  • Problems rendering motion projects in Final Cut.

When I import a motion project into final cut, and attempt to render it once it's on the timeline, i just get a black screen.

Here's an inelegant workaround I've used when having these kinds of troubles:
In your FCP timeline, create a slug the exact duration of the Motion project you're trying to import. Then control click on that slug, and choose Send To>Motion Project. It will launch Motion, with all the correct project properties assigned to the Motion file. Copy all your work from the first Motion project (the one that renders black), and paste it into this new Motion file that FCP has created. Hit Save in Motion. Then try rendering again in FCP. (Also, in FCP's Canvas, make sure Image is selected in the upper rightmost dropdown, or you might just get black.)

  • "Wobbly"/un-interlaced images when transferring Motion file to FCP

I'm at wit's end here. I did a short 10 second intro for a press reel in Motion that is pretty basic and looks good in Motion (it's just images from the show flying across the screen, with a cloud emitter as background). The problem is that when I import it into Final Cut Pro, the images get all jittery and wobbly. It looks as if they are going in and out of different interlacing stages, which makes no sense.
The images were taken from the theater's website, and I have have tried them both in JPG and PSD formats. They are all being scaled down from the original size a touch after I import them into Motion (would that be the problem? Didn't think to try that...). As I said, they look fine and clear in Motion, but when I export into a Quicktime movie or render it and play it back in Final Cut Pro, they get all jaggedy/wobbly (for lack of a better technical term). Stills exported from the Motion file look fantastic in Photoshop (and in Final Cut Pro when I use them as background) but a paused image in Final Cut Pro looks very jagged.
I've tried everything I can think of, and even upped all the render settings in the project, to no avail. Any ideas/suggestions?

I have tried exporting from Motion using the Animation settings, per the suggestion of other threads, which made it look really good when I opened it in Quicktime, but it still is jerky and the resolution is dreadful in Final Cut Pro, even when viewed through a Firewire connected monitor (the settings I have in Final Cut Pro are the DV NTSC 48 khz basic settings...720X480, pixel aspect NTSC-CCIR 601, Field Lower (even)[I tried 'none' for fun and no change], 29.97, compressor: DV/DVCPRO-NTSC, quality 100%. I've played with the video processing settings, using Motion FIltering as 'best' and rendering in RGB, to no avail).
I have tested it with photos that are 300dpi instead of 72dpi, and while that seems to have made a slight difference, the pictures still move across the screen in a jagged/wobbly format (the final picture looks great when it reaches the endpoint and just sits there)
As for the motion settings, as I said, I have tried exporting it using the Animation setting (which made it look great in Quicktime) and using Field to "none" and nothing has changed once I import it and render it in FCP.
It's a simple 10 second file created in DV/NTSC. Very few bells and whistles.

  • Error when trying to batch Motion files in Compressor

I have 11 Motion files, each of which takes about 25 minutes to render, so I want to set up a batch and let it run overnight.
When I try to drag my Motion files onto Compressor, I get an error that says "Unable to figure out your host. Assuming Final Cut Pro." with a button I can click to say OK. This behaviour repeats a few times and then Compressor locks up. I've searched and found a couple other threads mentioning this but no good answer as to the problem.
The reason I don't want to just drop these files onto FCP to render is that if I have to go back and make a small 2-second change to a Motion file, I don't want FCP to have to re-render the whole segment again. By rendering with Motion/Compressor, I can have a rendered file that FCP won't throw away if I make a small edit like that. Please, does anyone know how to fix this?

well, ****, I just answered my own question...but also created a new one.
The problem appears to be that I am using the Primatte Pro plugin in my motion files. When I take that out, I can drop them into Compressor just fine. I've tried tricking Compressor into loading the file and then re-saving the Motion file with the plugin turned on but that just crashes the batch...
    any suggestions?

  • Encore stops when rendering motion menus

I have a pretty consistent problem when rendering motion menus/project and I don't know how to fix it. Can anyone help?
I've just started to use Encore2, having switched from DVD Workshop 2.
I've got a wedding to author and I've used the useful 'Create Chapter Index' function that automatically creates sub menus. This has worked fine UNTIL I render the motion menus.
There are four menus: 1 x Main Menu, and 3 x Sub Menus.
If I render number 1 sub menu it's fine. It renders all 375 frames (why are there always 375 frames?).
The number 2 sub menu also renders properly.
When I get to number 3 sub menu, it always stops at frame 294 and Encore hangs! Why should this be?
I tried creating another project using the same mpeg file (4.12 GB) but with different menus and the same thing happens!
    Any ideas?
    John

    > why are there always 375 frames?
Assuming PAL (at 25fps) that would be a 15 second motion menu.
    > always stops at frame 294 and Encore hangs!
Just guessing: If you used motion thumbnails for chapters or timelines, there could be a "glitch" (corruption) 294 frames into the chapter or timeline the thumbnail video is made from.

  • Motion Files: Not Recognized in FCP 5.0.4.

Seemingly out of the blue, my version of FCP 5.0.4. is not recognizing the Motion files that I've imported into a project.
(My G5 tower was recently into the shop for a new hard drive, and updates were done on all software. So theoretically, this shouldn't be an issue.)
Motion is running fine on it's own. The problem appears to lie with Final Cut Pro.
Any suggestions for fixing the problem?
    Thanks.
    FCP 5.0.4., Motion 2.0.1., Mac OS X 10.4.11.

Final Cut Studio installs lots of components at system level, many of them are in folders that are normally invisible to regular users and often don't have names that can be directly associated with FCS.
When the shop performed the Archive and Install, those components were left in the Previous System folder. The contents of Previous System are rendered inert by Archive and Install, so a lot of important files that FCS needs are no longer accessible.
Delete the FCS apps in your Applications folder, they are useless. Delete the entire Previous System folder. Reinstall FCS from the original disks and run Software Update to get your Pro apps to current versions.
Bill the shop for loss of earnings.

  • FCP crashes using MOTION files

    Hi
85-min doc mostly shot by amateur camera person, wobbly, not steady, hand held...so 75% of the shots I brought to MOTION to stabilize, then brought those into FCP timeline...only 1/3 of the way through this process and FCP crashes every 5 minutes, then takes at least 5 minutes to open up again (relaunch), my 85 min timeline now won't render, says it's out of memory (using MAC PRO 3.0 with 8GB RAM)...crashes, some MOTION files turn orange in the canvas, then beach ball , then FCP crashes...what to do?
    Thanks
    K

try rendering the movies out of motion, and then import them into the FCP project instead of rendering the Motion files in the timeline. Leave the motion files in the timeline, but disable them (right click on them in the timeline and deselect clip enable). That way, if you need to go back in and tweak them, you can still open the motion file from the timeline, make your changes, re-output a movie file from Motion (save as same name and it will re-link) and you'll find the workflow quite easy.

  • Timeline freezes with motion files

FCP 7 timeline starts to freeze when scrubbing between motion files.
    Please Advise

Scrubbing though unrendered Motion files in FCP is going to be a problem sooner or later. The same thing will happen in Motion if you try and move around to much. The GPU rendering won't keep up. It depends mostly what is in the Motion files (type, large layers will give the most trouble). Also do the setting of the Motion file match your sequence settings in FCP that would cause even more trouble if there unmatched.

  • Export motion file

I'm having a problem with a 2.5 minute clip I have produced in Motion 3. It is a notice board with picture on. The camera zooms in and then moves around the board looking a all the pictutes.
I can not get it to import into Final Cut Express 4. So I have now being trying to export it as a movie to import. Motion starts the export, it does a about 25 - 50 sec then rushes to the end. And closes the window.
Any ideas? If I upgrade to Motion 5 would this help. I would then still be able to either import native motion file or export movie for importing into Final Cut Express.
    Thanks for any help
    Andy

I have reduced the size of the pictures. Also I have reduced the number of pictures in frame at the beginning an end shots. Now I'm exporting using compressor as MPEG4. This is now importing into Final Cut Express and rendering without any orange blocks.
