Rendering Oddity In EPS from Acrobat

I do a lot of graph creation and editing for a group of scientists.
Often they are more interested in the compactness of the final file
(eps) to place in the LaTeX page generation software than in the
niceties of Adobe portability.
I have managed to find workarounds over the years to most of
the problems in stripping out Adobe embedded stuff. The process goes:
Illustrator>Acrobat>Acrobat exported EPS (from version 7,8 or 9 depending)> (if all vectors-) run through
an opens source apple script that uses open source converters to convert
the EPS to another EPS without Adobe overhead.
It is unfortunate that Adobe has not been willing to make a save as
option that produces simple EPS with JPG compressed bitmaps.  It would
make life grand for the science community.
Anyway, all has gone well until I tried this just today.  Now this
process is producing text that is bitmapped, whereas this did not happen
before.  I did this just 8 days ago (same fonts, same type of vectors,
same programs) and the same thing worked fine.
Any ideas on what would cause Acrobat to generate Bitmapped text outputs?
Britt

I have determined that the text rasterization is happening at the EPS2EPS cleanup stage.  I am converting all text to outline to get around this problem.  It is just I am sure I have been able to retain text in the past going through this process, but can not now.
I do not use the EPS straight out of Illustrator because I am interested in compressing the bitmaps in the EPS file, in a way that is still properly readable by LaTeX software. The only successful path I have found so far is through a PDF>Acrobat>EPS route.  But the end result is still bloated with color management, and adobe specific data.

  • Can't open EPS from PhotoShop CS4 in PS CS6 (or much of anything else)

    I have some EPS files that I just can't open - I'm trying to get the creator to send them in another format but they're not responding to any of my emails so I need to try and get the data out of them.
    The start of the header looks like so:
      %!PS-Adobe-3.0 EPSF-3.0
      %%Creator: Adobe Photoshop Version 12.1x20110328 [20110328.r.145 2011/03/28:10:30:00 cutoff; r branch]
    So that looks to me like CS4? CS6 is v14 so I'm guessing it's CS4.
    They won't open in Photoshop, Illustrator, Inkscape or Irfanview.
    The specific message in all of these is either unknown error or parsing error.
    They will open in Acrobat Pro, but the resultant PDF is 100 times smaller than the original EPS (with no image compression etc.), around 1MB vs around 100MB, and all the raster graphics are flattened into a single layer, and the text is all outlines - I can't do any work with it.
    Any ideas at all? Or shall I just keep trying to get hold of the creator? Or is there more information that I can provide to help figure this out?

    OK - just to answer my own question. Aside from my difficulty opening them - the data I wanted was never there anyway. I now have the original PSD files and if you export them to an EPS from PS, the behavior I was seeing in Acrobat is correct - the raster layers do get flattened, and the text converted to outlines. So those files would never have been of use to me even if I could open them with something other than Acrobat.

  • Why is Acrobat DC not recognizing my scanner after upgrade from Acrobat CC?

    Two days ago I upgraded from Acrobat CC to Acrobat DC on my iMac (OS X 10.10.3). This seems to have rendered my Canon MP980 scanner inoperable. I get a message that the scanner driver(s) are not found. I did not delete any Canon drivers, only performed an Adobe suggested upgrade.
    I see several others have experienced the same. One place I found a suggested workaround, but for me not an acceptable solution, is found in this KB article:
    https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/acrobat-dc-does-not-support-twain-drivers-on-mac.html
    I tried to use Mac App store Updates but it is not finding any for the scanner, as suggested in the above article.
    The Cannon is on a local network (Ethernet). My Macbook Pro (OS X 10.10.3) is still running Acrobat CC without any problem using the scanner.
    A real solution would be appreciated.

    Hi Anubha,
    Thanks for your help.
    In Finder ...... > Twain Data Sources I found two files, "Canon MP980 series Network.ds" (1.9Mb) and "Canon MP980 series.ds" (2Mb). Next to Kind for both it says "Application". I don´t see the word "Package" or "PowerPC" or "Universal". However, under Where, it says "Macintosh HD>Library>Image Capture>TWAIN Data Source. This is also the same information I find on my Macbook Pro (OS X 10.10.3), but still running Acrobat CC (not upgraded yet, thankfully). I can still scan using my MBP.
    I was able to scan using Image Capture.
    I did not have time to go through the procedure of logging in as root user.
    Frankly, this seems way to complicated. There has to be an easier fix to the problem.
    I also checked Canon´s website for updated driver files, but there are none for Yosemite.

    Tor-Eddie

  • Is there any way to "Print to PDF" from Acrobat?

    In Windows, you can open a PDF in Acrobat and print it to a PDF.  This isn't behavior isn't available in the Mac version—trying to use "Save as PDF" and "Save as Adobe PDF" both produce the following error message:
    Saving a PDF file when printing is not supported. Instead, choose File > Save.
    Is there any way to print to a PDF from Acrobat Pro X on a Mac (running Snow Leopard)?
    Note: There's a utility to being able to print from a PDF to PDF (which I why I suspect it's available in the Windows version), so "You're doing it wrong—just Click File > Save" would not be a very helpful response.  I'm sure there are other uses for the functionality, but in my case in particular I need to split each page of a scanned PDF in which each page contains two pages of the original document.  Printing to a PDF provides an easy way to do this, but I'm open to a more appropriate solution if it's available.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

    Adobe removed the ability to "refry" (make a PDF from a PDF) several versions ago.
    what you need is to go to document and choose Remove (delete) pages (if it’s a duplicate Page)
    You can also extract pages, add pages and so on. See this:

  • Solution to the problem printing from Acrobat 9.4.2

    Since there are nearly 200 posts in the original thread, It might be best (for those looking for a quick solution) to do this in a new thread.
    The problem is that you cannot print to a network printer from Acrobat (pro) 9.4.2.  Printing to a local (USB) printer seems okay.
    The solution (for us) was found at http://www.hypersensory.com/content/fix-printing-after-installing-adobe-acrobat-942-update
    The approach I tested was:
    [T]he fast and easy way:
    1.) go to the installation directory of Acrobat (C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 9.0\Acrobat)
    2.) Look for the file "Adobe.Acrobat.Dependencies.manifest"
    3.) Open it and delete the line <file name="atl.dll" />
    4.) Reboot your machine after saving that file
    This should fix the issue of being unable to print PDF file after installing 9.4.2 update for Adobe Acrobat.
    With thanks to the folks at HyperSensory.com!  It works!

    Could someone from Adobe respond to this specific issue so that we know we are being heard?  Will the fix for the print issue also resolve the 'attach to email' problem?  Is there any work around other than telling users to attach directly from their email programs?
    Thanks in advance for your response to our concerns.
    Penny

  • Faded colors when printing from Acrobat - different than previous

    Hi
    I have read some threads about color fading when printing a PDF created in ID and printed from Acrobat. My problem is the same and I am also having the same problem with PDF's exported from Keynote (client created posters). It sounds like I should work with the PDF optimizer for the solution. Has anyone experienced the fading colors from anything other than ID or Quark made PDF's? Did the optimizer fix the problem? I find it frustrating that I can print directly from ID and not have a problem - why can't they all get along!  ;0)
    Using Acrobat 9, Keynote 09 and an Epson 9880 printer.
    Thanks

    RE: "You don't indicate what Xerox printers you have"
    In my first post I named it, is that the information you need?
    Docucolor 3535 using Splash 3535
    That's interesting, so I have to find a way to turn off the printer's Color Management function? I mailed them, hope they can tell me how to do it easily. They usually just tell me to not use any profiles and so on, but that's the general rule in this area, I'm really tired of hearing it. Everybody seems to think profiles and LAB mode are nuclear science and I should stay away from it.
    Anyway, the test image I'm using is a simple photograph (size A3, 300dpi), so no transparencies at all. I'm placing this image into an equally large ID file and print it from ID, then export it to PDF-X/3 and print it from Acrobat. Hope that helps.

  • Error message when copying from Acrobat Reader

    Error message when copying from Acrobat Reader - any file,  any time (Win 7, Adobe many versions until recent).
    Copy works, but causes a needless and useless error message that has to be clicked away every time.
    This problem is published on the web for a million times without a working solution. And even in the Adobe forum no qualified answer (http://forums.adobe.com/thread/441370)
    When can I expect a solution?

    Of course not.
    But thank you anyway, I talked to my admin and we changed the whole company to Foxit.
    It can be that easy.

    iPhoto is missing bits of itself. You need to reinstall it.
    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
    2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
    2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
    A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
    If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
    If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
    If you purchased it on the App Store you can find it in your Purchases List.

  • Can't Print from Acrobat 9 Pro on windows 7 64bit....

    I have a windows 7 64-bit computer that can't print to any printer from Acrobat 9 Pro.  When you try to print I get the following error:
    "print driver host for 32 bit application has stopped working"
    Any thoughts, it's driving me crazy....

    I'm having the identical problem and the only way I can get it to work is by not trying to change the title suggested by Acrobat for the PDF.
    If I try printing from Firefox and pasting in a new PDF title, it crashes Firefox.

  • Can't print to PDF from Acrobat XI

    I'm having trouble printing to a PDF from Acrobat XI Pro (FYI, I'm using OS X 10.8).
    Here's what's goin on:
    I open the file in Acrobat.
    I hit Cmd-P and in the "Printer" dropdown list I select "Adobe PDF 7.0".
    I click "Print" in the lower right.
    The print monitor icon pops up, but nothing happens. (When I click it to view progress, it just sits there and says "Ready to print", but no matter what I do, nothing happens.)
    To clarify, as far as I can tell, this is only a problem when I try to print using the "Printer" dropdown menu and is universal across all applications (i.e. Acrobat, Word, Chrome, etc.). When I select "Save as PDF" within any of those applications, there is no problem at all.
    You may be asking yourself "Then why don't you just continue to 'Save as PDF' and forget about the 'Printer' option?" The "why" is not important, so I'll save you my reasoning as it has no bearing on fixing this problem. I'll just say that I have a somewhat frequent need to do it in this particular manner and need to have that option available to me. No offense intended, I simply want to solve to problem without running off on an unimportant tangent.
    I'm sure you'll have other questions about my system and what I'm doing/have done, so please ask away.
    Thanks so much

    I've had the same issue on 10.7 (and, I believe 10.6). Although this point may also be contributing to the problem, I don't suspect that it is the only demon at at work here. However, if you are referring to all versions of OS X that would make some sense since the only print drivers I could find on Adobe's downloads section didn't show support for anything newer than OS 9.2.2
    As to your suggestion, I'm not sure I follow what you mean. Here is a screen cap of the dialogue box I'm presented in Acrobat XI. Can you please point out the "PDF Button" you're talking about?
    After reading your comment again, am I correct in assuming that you are suggesting I essentially save the document as a PDF, as is usually present in the print dialogue box for other applications? If that is what you are suggesting, I already explained that that is not an option and doesn't solve the problem.
    Thanks

  • Install Acrobat 9 Pro Extended from Acrobat 9 Standard

    I attempted to do an upgrade from Acrobat 9 Standard to Pro Extended having purchased the software from a sales rep who said I could do this as did technical support.
    My system is XP Pro/SP2 32-bit.
    During the install I ran into this problem. http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/401/kb401731.html. Being stupid I continued on
    instead of stopping. Once I got to the section that I am asked to input the Pro Extended serial number and then my STandard serial number I ran into further problems. The dropp down menu asked for which current version of Acrobat, which of course for me was 9 Standard.
    The problem was the drop down menu has no option for Standar only Professional.
    Since the sales rep had told me I could upgrade I hadn't read the label on the Extended Pro box, which says it's only an upgrade for Professional If I had called in at that time I would have resolved that issue, but not the missing DLL.
    I then found out I couldn't uninstall the mess so I did another stupid thing and did a system restore, which just compounded the problem. To make a longer story shorter I downloaded MS Windows Cleanup Utility and removed  Acrobat.com and Acrobat 9 STandard. I then downloaded WinCS4Cleanupscript and unzipped and ran it. So far so good.
    Then I was advised to install Pro Extended as a trial and customer support would take care of the license issue. Ok, again so far so good.
    I then attemped to install Pro Extended as trial and ran into a printer problem similar to what I had
    encountered before, but not exactly the same.
    "Setup can not copy file PSCRPTFE.NTF" and issues about printers not being Windows logo compliant I believe it was.
    (I have a new wireless Brother HL-2170W laser and Canon MP830 inkjet and just updated the driver and firmware...maybe that will load the missing driver)
    A this point the installation was terminated and I was advised to follow Adobe TechNote KB403613. The only item that I could possiblity help with this printer problem is the Hotfix kb-930627, but this is for a 64-bit system not 32? Do I download or not?
    I also just found out that I still have some vestige of Pro Extended on my system though the MS Cleanup Utility doesn't list anything. Do I run WinCS4Cleanupscript again?
    a) How do I fix the PSCRPTFE.NTF issue with my printer(s)
    b) Do I download a 64-bit hotfix kb-930627to my 32-bit system...and will that solve the printer problem?
    c) Do I just ignore what's left of Pro Extended on my system or run Winc cs4Cleanupscript again. I can't run it directly from all programs, but if I click
    on Acrobat 9 Standard under start it opens up or at least that's how it's identified.
    d) Anything else?

    I might as well update my own question:
    I followed the instructions given in the Adobe TechNote kb403613 after running WINCS4Cleanupscript.
    However, I did NOT download the hotfix as that's for a 64-bit system. The phrasing of the hotfix wasn't very
    clear to me, but I don't think when it stated XP Home or Professional meant a 32-bit system rather only 64-bit.
    If anyone knows better let me know. I checked out that specific hotfix and said was for 64-bit OS.
    1) Created a new user account with Admin rights
    2)  I did the "intermediate troubleshooting" listed in kb403613 and found a few files to delete and I also ran the disk defragmenter.
    Might as well catch any problems up front instead of waiting.
    3) There were several directories on the DVD but only copied Acrobat 9 Pro Extended to my desktop in the new user account.
    4) Ran msconfig and disabled all programs under the start up tab. Once you click OK a small window pops up
    and you press restart. Remember to write down any programs listed in startup that are not enabled so you
    can deselect those when you enable the startup menu again.
    5) On restart and booting up press F8 to get the start up options and select VGA mode.
    7) Once you in Windows log back into the account you created to just install Acrobat
    8) Open Acrobat 9 Pro Extended on your desk top and run the installer
    Desktop>Acrobat 9 Pro Extended>Acrobat9>Acro3D
    9) Run the install. In my case I selected trial version.
    10) I still ran into a problem with Windows Logo compatiblity issues with  my printers.
    I could either continue or stop the installation, which I did to attempt to determine just what's
    causing that problem.
    11) there was some auto backout of files, but I still had to run MS Cleanup Utility again and remove Acrobat 9 Pro Extended.
    Also ran WINCS4Cleanupscript though nothing there.
    12) I then did a restart and booted into normal Windows mode from VGA mode.
    13) Logged into my account and ran msconfig to enabled my startup menu and then deselected the ones I didn't want.
    OK, I am back to square one. I checked the Windows Logo Product List and found my Brother HL-2170W is
    XP, VISTA and W7 Windows Logo certified.
    I checked my other printer a Canon Pixma MP830...well not so good. It's logo certified under Vista and W7, but not XP.
    I had downloaded the lastest driver and firmware, but that didn't seem to help. I did email Canon. Now these printers had
    no problems when I was running under Acrobat 9 Standard.
    Right now my only option appears to be to just run the install and continue on when I get to the printer issue. Still don't know what
    will happen when I get to the serial numbers. I am suppose to call support and they will fix activation. So I am told...

  • [JS CS3 Win] Export to PDF then auto-print PDF from Acrobat

    Hello!
    I am working on the script that is exporting pages to PDF, and would like to automatically send exported PDF to print from Acrobat.
    I get the scripting part for exporting to PDF, and it's working very well, but I have trouble on the part of the script that tells Acrobat to open the PDF and send it to printer. Script is run from InDesign, so I thought this is right forum to ask.
    The following part of the script is working OK on one computer, but on other two computers with similar configuration (CS3. Windows, Acrobat 8) it doesn't work at all and I can't figure out where is the problem:
    var printFile = "/c/temp/test.pdf";
    var remoteScript = "printFile = decodeURI('"+printFile+"');\n";
    remoteScript += "var doc = app.openDoc({cPath: printFile});\n";
    remoteScript += "var pp = doc.getPrintParams();\n";
    remoteScript += "pp.pageHandling = pp.constants.handling.shrink;\n";
    remoteScript += "pp.NumCopies = 2;\n";
    remoteScript += "pp.interactive = pp.constants.interactionLevel.silent;\n";
    remoteScript += "pp.printerName = '\\\\hrhqzgw23prn01\\\hr300019ps';\n";
    remoteScript += "doc.print(pp);\n";
    remoteScript += "doc.closeDoc(true);";
    acrobat.executeScript(remoteScript);
    I would appreciate any help. thank you.

    Hi Mark,
    Here is a sample script. It exports the active InDesign document to pdf file, using its base name, to the root of C drive. Then opens the exported file in Acrobat, prints it to the default printer and silently closes it.
    Tested on InDesign 5.0.3, Acrobat 8.0.0, Windows XP SP3.
    #target indesign
    var myIndesignDoc = app.activeDocument;
    var myBaseName = GetFileNameOnly(myIndesignDoc.name);
    var myFile = new File( "/C/" + myBaseName + ".pdf" );
    myIndesignDoc.exportFile( ExportFormat.pdfType, myFile, false );
    var myScript = 'var myAcrobatDoc = app.openDoc( "/C/' + myBaseName + '.pdf" );\n';
    myScript += 'myAcrobatDoc.print( {bUI: false, bSilent: true} );\n';
    myScript += 'myAcrobatDoc.closeDoc( true );';
    var bt = new BridgeTalk;
    bt.target = "acrobat";
    bt.body = myScript;
    bt.send();
    function GetFileNameOnly(myFileName) {
        var myString = "";
        var myResult = myFileName.lastIndexOf(".");
        if (myResult == -1) {
            myString = myFileName;
        else {
            myString = myFileName.substr(0, myResult);
        return myString;
    Short explanation of the acrobat script:
    1. Open the pdf file, just exported from InDesign
    var myAcrobatDoc = app.openDoc( "/C/' + myBaseName + '.pdf" );
    2. To print the document silently I use the doc object’s print method and set the following parameters:
    bUI -- Determines whether to present a user interface to the user
    bSilent -- Suppresses the Cancel dialog box while the document is printed
    myAcrobatDoc.print( {bUI: false, bSilent: true} );
    3. Close the document without notifying the user:
    myAcrobatDoc.closeDoc( true );

  • Why can't I email a pdf file from Acrobat XI Standard?

    Whenever I try to email a pdf file from Acrobat XI Standard, nothing happens. Outlook 2007 is my default

    Adobe CC just installed Acrobat DC. PitStop Professional plug-in is not installed in Acrobat DC tools panel. The plug-in is the only thing that exists in my Acrobat 11 folder. Do I need to reinstall? How can I use existing plug-ins from Acrobat 11 in Acrobat DC?
