Rendering pl/sql dynamic region in PDF

Is it possible to render a region with pl/sql dynamic content to a PDF document using the htmldb_studio_fop utility ?
I did attempt to do this but the JSP fails.

Hello,
Even though it's based on the report engine the xml feeds actually output page items and session items into the xml feed. By using these you can build some very robust/complex pdf's than just a report, it's just matter of using a different xslt.
There is no easy way to include the output of a custom region. But if you wanted to do some javascript hacking you could use javascript to splice in some custom xml,from plsql or wherever into the xml feed before it posts to fop server. When I have some time I'll post an example of this on HTML DB Studio.
HTML DB itself produces the xml it, it is just another output from our reporting engine.
XmlHttp is a javascript object it's used to pull the xml feed from the report engine without reloading a page and then posting the xml to the server to render the fop.
As for the servers used our howto is just written using the servers we have on hand, but any server that can run Apache Fop should work.
Thanks,
Carl

  • PDF rendering with PL/SQL dynamic region

    The problem with the reporting is:
    - if you want flexible, enhanced reports you can't use the report engine
    - PDF output works only with the report engine
    Means: At the moment you can't do enhanced, printable reports with HTML DB without using OAS & Developer.
    Is there some possible way to generate custom xml from dynamic regions and pass it to the render JSP ?
    Is this XmlHttp object in "htmldb_pdf.js" generating the xml output all by its self or does the HTML DB engine something in the background?
    Will there be enhanced PDF support in future versions of HTML DB ?

  • Building a report using "PL/SQL Dynamic Content" can I have it output PDF?

    Hi,
    I build several reports using the "PL/SQL Dynamic Content" region and htp.p().
    The output is exactly what the customer wants but they would now like to have it go into PDF document.
    Is there a way to do it?

    Bill,
    You can integrate APEX with Oracle BI Publisher and have your report generated to PDF.
    If you're just interested in saving what is on a web page in PDF, have a look at CuteFTP (Windows), which is a free print driver that allows you to "print" to a PDF file as if it were a printer. On the Mac, you can save to PDF and do not need any additional software.
    Thanks,

  • Execute SQL dynamically from pdf?

    Hi,
    We'd like to fill some fields in the form dynamically, sometimes based on user input from previous field(s). With enough user input, we'd like construct, execute SQL dynamically and interpret the result and update relavent field on the pdf form.
    How do I access Oracle 9i database directly in the form? I know we can run server side scripting in presubmit event.
    I've written a custom QPAC to access database and return multiple rows in Workflow Server. But there inside Form Designer 7.1, it doesn't allow me to
    put in java code... Or, we have to use webservice to achieve the result?
    Please advise.
    Thanks!

    Strange, whenever I have installed forms I got sqlplus too without asking for it. If it is not installed, wouldn't your best bet be to install it ?

  • Partially refresh the sql report region by clicking the region selector tab

    Hi,
    In my page i have a region display selector tab. This region selector tab contain show all,booking,service,.. etc. when i click the booking tab,sql report region will appear. My intention is when i click the booking tab i want to refresh that region partially to display the record according to sql query in that region source of report region.
    how to do this?
    skud.

    No, the region is not appearing because it is conditional on P2_QUERY being NOT NULL. This means that the report region never exists on the page shown in the browser, so it can't be dynamically refreshed. (Dynamic refresh doesn't evaluate region conditions, and it only re-renders the report content, not the entire region.)
    Remove the condition on the report region, check the refresh is working, then reconsider exactly what the requirements here are. If you want the region to appear only when P2_QUERY has a value, and you want it to be refreshed without submitting and re-rendering the page, then the region needs to be hidden rather than conditionally rendered, and shown via a dynamic action when P2_QUERY gets a value.
    I tried adding an additional Set Value True Action for the DA event but got an error as listed above,
    All irrelevant if Page Items to Submit on the region is used properly.

  • Linking PL/SQL custom region into html db pages

    Hello,
    I have built an htmldb application with several pages, the first 7 of which contain html regions containing htmldb form items I created using the html db interface. I am able to step through the first 6 pages of my application, noting that the values of all the variables are saved when clicking from tab to tab.
    I created page 8 which contains a custom dynamic region, in which I used the PL/SQL web toolkit to create an html table, form, and several form fields in which to capture data.
    What I'd like to do is, link my custom region variables, etc. into the other pages that were generated by html db. The code snippet for my custom region is located below... After I navigate to my page with the custom region then click on Submit or even try to switch to another tab, I get the dreaded error: "The requested URL /pls/htmldb/wwv_flow.accept was not found on this server."
    I am learning this product and admittedly am just knowledgeable to be dangerous. There must be some way to link in the items on my form I created with the rest of the pages within the application.
    I am sure I'm missing an important piece. Has anyone else done something similar? Any ideas, or can you tell me if what I'm doing is not possible?
    In case you're curious, the reason I am writing my own region with PL/SQL using the WebToolkit, etc. is because our organization wanted an example of taking an html db page and porting it over for use in Portal.
    Thanks in advance for any comments.

    Thank you for your reply...
    I actually was probably not very clear about what I'm trying to do. Let me try to clarify and give more background info...
    I have found it very easy to utilize html db to create my web forms, and manage all the variables and session state for me. It is so easy to make a quick form, capture info in a few fields and then post it to the DB. I have found it very difficult to use, however, in terms of getting it to format things the way I wish them to be.
    For example: I cannot seem, for the life of me, to get it to wrap field labels. This results in oddly formatted tables. I have tried to utilize the stop and start html table controls, begin on new line, new field, colspan, rowspan, etc., but what I really need is for it to let me define the tables and field labels, as I have done so successfully with the PL/SQL web toolkit (the code snipped for this is in my first post). What I did unsuccessfully with my custom dynamic region was manage to incorporate my form fields into variables and session state that will be automatically managed by html db along with the other 6 pages in my application. I was perhaps, expecting code to write itself, in retrospect. I'm sure some coding will be necessary to bind my form fields to vars in my html db appl. But, after reading a blog by a Mr. Spledoni (forgive me if spelling is wrong,) I think I messed up by overlapping <FORM> elements in my custom region. I admittedly don't understand how html db renders the form elements and processes them behind the scenes. I do remember from the Portlet classes, however, that coding was certainly necessary to process the forms once submitted.
    Am I making sense?
    I guess I need to either figure out how to format field labels the way I want them to be, OR to be able to write a custom region in PL/SQL using the web toolkit and figure out how to incorporate the values captured within the region into items or variables within my application, all other pages of which are html regions with html db items within them (not dymanic PL/SQL regions).
    Thanks for reading this, I know it's tedious...

  • Dynamic Region in Popup - clientListener problem?

    Hello,
    I'm working in Jdeveloper 11.1.1.2, following the popup/region pattern found at: http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/adf/patterns/11/popupregionpattern.pdf to have a dynamic region in a popup. I already have a working implementation on one of my pages, but the exact same implementation on another page is giving me issues. Whenever I add an af:clientListener component to my popup, the table in the same panelCollection stops rendering its rows. The column headers display, but there's no text of any type in the rows. If I delete the af:clientListener, my page works perfectly.
    Here's my popup code thus far:
    <af:popup id="awdPU" contentDelivery="lazyUncached"
    launcherVar="source" eventContext="launcher">
    <af:setPropertyListener from="#{source.attributes.saId}"
    to="#{pageFlowScope.currentSaId}"
    type="popupFetch"/>
    <af:setPropertyListener from="#{source.attributes.saId}"
    to="#{pageFlowScope.currentSchlrId}"
    type="popupFetch"/>
    <af:setPropertyListener from="#{source.attributes.appId}"
    to="#{pageFlowScope.currentAppId}"
    type="popupFetch"/>
    <af:setPropertyListener from="#{source.attributes.aidYear}"
    to="#{pageFlowScope.currentAidYearId}"
    type="popupFetch"/>
    <af:setPropertyListener from="#{source.attributes.theAction}"
    to="#{pageFlowScope.currentAction}"
    type="popupFetch"/>
    <af:setPropertyListener from="#{viewScope.popupDynamicRegionBean.popupTaskFlowId}"
    to="#{viewScope.popupDynamicRegionBean.dynamicTaskFlowId}"
    type="popupFetch"/>
    <af:setPropertyListener from="#{source.attributes.orgId}"
    to="#{pageFlowScope.currentOrgId}"
    type="popupFetch"/>
    <af:panelWindow id="pw1" title="Awarding">
    <af:region value="#{bindings.dynamicRegion1.regionModel}"
    id="dynam1"
    regionNavigationListener="#{viewScope.popupDynamicRegionBean.regionNavigated}"/>
    </af:panelWindow>
    <af:serverListener type="serverPopupClosed"
    method="#{viewScope.popupDynamicRegionBean.swapEmptyTaskFlow}"/>
    <af:clientListener method="popupClosedListener"
    type="popupClosed"/>
    </af:popup>
    and here is my working, completed dynamic region + popup code:
    <af:popup id="awdPU" contentDelivery="lazyUncached" launcherVar="source"
    eventContext="launcher">
    <af:panelWindow id="window" title="Awarding" modal="true" closeIconVisible="false">
    <af:region value="#{bindings.dynamicRegion1.regionModel}" id="dynam1"
    regionNavigationListener="#{viewScope.popupDynamicRegionBean.regionNavigated}"
    inlineStyle="background-color:transparent;"/>
    </af:panelWindow>
    <af:setPropertyListener from="#{viewScope.popupDynamicRegionBean.popupTaskFlowId}"
    to="#{viewScope.popupDynamicRegionBean.dynamicTaskFlowId}"
    type="popupFetch"/>
    <af:setPropertyListener from="#{source.attributes.saId}" to="#{pageFlowScope.currentSaId}"
    type="popupFetch"/>
    <af:setPropertyListener from="#{source.attributes.appId}" to="#{pageFlowScope.currentAppId}"
    type="popupFetch"/>
    <af:setPropertyListener from="#{source.attributes.aidYear}"
    to="#{pageFlowScope.currentAidYear}" type="popupFetch"/>
    <af:setPropertyListener from="#{source.attributes.theAction}"
    to="#{pageFlowScope.currentAction}" type="popupFetch"/>
    <af:clientListener method="popupClosedListener" type="popupClosed"/>
    <af:serverListener type="serverPopupClosed"
    method="#{viewScope.popupDynamicRegionBean.swapEmptyTaskFlow}"/>
    <af:clientAttribute name="action" value="makeAward"/>
    <af:clientListener method="adjustPopupSize" type="popupOpening"/>
    </af:popup>
    Does anyone know of any reason a client listener would have this kind of impact on my page? I've tried other types/methods and it just seems like if an af:clientListener is there, it won't work.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    I came across this type of problem. what the javascript method u r calling it may contain some errors or if the clientListner not able to find the method which u r calling in the jspx file that will behave like that only.
    keep one alert begining of the script method(popupClosedListener) and check it whether it is calling or not. Better related serverListner should be after the ClientListner.

    hi,
    im new to APEX, and pl/sql [but not web dev or sql].
    ive found the bit in APEX that lets you add data from your DB using the 'CREATE' > 'PL/SQL Dynamic Content'.
    maybe there's a better option for people who dont know pl/sql? i dont know?
    however, i think i can getting working with a little bit of help but im stumbling around in the dark a bit here.
    ok so this is the pl/sql ive come up with to show three example values on page 23 of my aplplication:
    BEGIN
    SELECT ID, NAME, OWNER
    FROM COM_MAILSHOTS
    INTO :P23_ID, :P23_NAME, :P23_OWNER;
    END;
    im getting the error:

    The easiest (and best) way to "display rows" is using a report. Dynamic PL/SQL regions are more complex and are required much less frequently.
    The Oracle® Database 2 Day + Application Express Developer's Guide tutorial explains how to create reports and other basic APEX techniques.

  • Controlling the page of an SQL report region

    I have an SQL report region containing 70 rows. It shows the status of a bidding process that takes place in sequence, from the guy in the first row to the guy in the last. I use a "red light/green light" technique in each row to show who is currently eligible.
    Typically users will login and then hit the next button to get to where the action is once the first 15 folks are done (number of rows = 15). Is there some way to set which set of rows first appears?
    I looked at the URLs. When I first logged in I got:
    http://htmldb.ciscoinc.com/bill/f?p=173:3:15341208186623218430::NO:::
    After clicking "Next" I got:
    http://htmldb.ciscoinc.com/bill/f?p=173:3:15341208186623218430:pg_R_4821423314714801953:NO&pg_min_row=16&pg_max_rows=15&pg_rows_fetched=15
    How do I come up with:
    pg_R_4821423314714801953 ?
    Any thoughts? Thanks.

    Bill,
    I would suggest using a dynamic query that’s referencing a page item to limit the result set so that the correct records are shown when the user branches to the report page. Manually modifying the pagination URL is not supported. The URL contains the internal region ID, and is setting some internal pagination variables. The internal workings of report pagination could change in future versions of HTML DB, so manually manipulating those values could cause your report to break duing a future upgrade.

    Marc

  • Refreshing sql report region based on values from another region - 4.0

    Greetings All,
    I have a page with two regions, say region 1 and region 2. I have a before header process that fetches values from db based on criteria entered from another page. Region 2 is a sql report region with bind variables from region 1. When this page is rendered region 1 renders properly however sql report region always returns no records. What am i missing here?
    I would like to have the region 2 render a report based on the values from region 1. Region 2 has a sql query that looks something like
    select
    colum 1,
    column 2,
    column 3
    from table t1
    where t1.c1 = :p10_item1
    and t1.c2 = :p10_item2Using apex 4.0
    thanks
    Seetharaman

    If these items hidden, try making them display only .
    Also what happens when you move the items from region 1 to region 2.
    From my experience items do not have much of a dependency on the region they are attached to other than cases when the region is not rendered(when its condition fails) and then the item values become null(bcoz they themselves are not rendered).

  • Converting SQL Report Region to PLSQL Function Body Returning SQL Query

    All:
    I want to convert my SQL Report Region to a PLSQL-generated SQL Report Region so that I can eliminate where clauses dynamically and speed up my app, and also so that I can provide additional sorting options.
    <br><br>
    My problem is that I have lots of embedded single quotes that already are coded as 3 single quotes in the SQL Report Region. I am not sure at all how to code them within the PLSQL.
    <br><br>
    As example, here is one column from my query:
    <br><br>
    select decode(nvl(g.date_sub_1,g.date_rec_1), null, decode(g.article, 0, 'E', 1, 'U'), '< a href="javascript:unElevate( ' ' ' || g.grid || ' ' ',' ' ' || g.natca || ' ' ')">' || decode(g.article, 0, 'E', 1, 'U') || '< /a>') "Reverse" from g_table g
    <br><br>
    (Note that I added spaces within the code so it would display properly in the browser.)
    <br><br>
    To clarify, that's a double quote before javascript, and then 3 single quotes before the first concatenation group, then 3 single quotes after the second concatenation group, then 3 single quotes before the third, 3 single quotes after the fourth followed by an end-paren followed by a double quote etc.
    <br><br>
    My question is, what do I do with these triple-single quotes within PLSQL? Probably a no-brainer for the experienced folks, but I am thinking like a mobius strip at this point.

    Function returning SQL query: Query cannot be parsed within the Builder. If you believe your query is syntactically correct, check the generic columns checkbox below the region source to proceed without parsing.
    (ORA-20001: Unable to bind :43 verify length of item is 30 bytes or less. Use v() syntax to reference items longer than 30 bytes. ORA-01006: bind variable does not exist)
    I did chop the query up into little bits, i.e.
    p_sql := p_sql || q'! ... !';
    p_sql := p_sql || q'! ... !';
    p_sql := p_sql || q'! ... !';
    return p_sql;
    But I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do here.
    Thank you.

  • SQL Report Region Refresh

    Application Express 4.0.2.00.09
    Oracle 11 XE
    How do I setup a Dynamic Action to refresh my region every X number of seconds? I can refresh the region easy enough on events, but I can't seem to figure out the timing thing. Maybe I just need some sleep...
    Austin

    Joe -
    Interestingly enough, I have not yet found a good way to alter the Report Region title with the last update time. I would think there is a way to do it, but I do not currenlty have that knowledge, nor the time to thoroughly investigate how to do it. I do have a bit to share about the mechanics of the refresh discussed earlier in this thread.
    Consider this code, place in the footer of a SQL Report Region:
    <script type="text/javascript">
    <!--
      var d = new Date();
      document.write("Last Updated: " + d);
      setInterval("jQuery('#INTRADAY_IRR').trigger('apexrefresh');", 2000);
    -->This will place the date as a footer to the SQL report. The javascript will then refresh the report every two seconds. (or whatever timeframe you specify) Now, in my SQL for my report, I added an additional column that is the current time. My SQL would look something like:
    SELECT foo,
            bar,
            to_char(sysdate, 'HH24:MI:SS') update_time
    FROM dualThis SQL will show when the data was last fetched from the database, while the footer of the region shows the time when the region was loaded by the browser.
    If you run the page with these, or similar, parameters, you will notice that the update_time column in the report changes with each refresh, however, the region footer does not change. This is because the script isn't called everytime the data is refreshed. This would indicate that using the methodology mentioned previously in this thread, the entire region is not refreshed but simply the dataset and the report itself. This would mean that you would have a quite difficult time updating the region title from the SQL code alone... I'm not saying it is impossible, I just don't know how to do it...
    Having said that- I do have a work around.
    Consider this as the region title:
    <div id="MyUpdatedReport" ></div>Now consider this code in the region header:
    <script type="text/javascript">
    function getUpdatedDate() {
      var d = new Date();
      document.getElementById('MyUpdatedReport').innerHTML="Region Title - Last Updated: " + d;
      t=setTimeout('getUpdatedDate()',2000);
    </script>And this in the region footer:
    <script type="text/javascript">
    <!--
      setInterval("jQuery('#INTRADAY_IRR').trigger('apexrefresh');", 2000);
      getUpdatedDate();
    -->
    </script>We create a DIV tag as our header. Then we have a function in the header that updates our div tag every two seconds. In the footer, we tell APEX to refresh the data every two seconds, and we tell our function to begin working. Effectively, you have a timestamp indicating when, theoretically, the data should have been refreshed. Now, this timestamp in the Region Title is NOT the true update time, but, theoretically it should be close. You should probably test this to see if you want to use it. Personally, I don't like this solution and I don't think I would ever implement it in any sort of production application. However, in an application that is just for me, I might hack something like this up.
    The key part of this work around would be to keep your times synchronized. It would be of no benefit if APEX was refreshing the data every 60 seconds but the title was refreshing every 6 seconds. Yikes, that could confuse a few people.
    I hope this has been a help.

  • Dynamic Images in PDF Report

    Hi,
    I want to create Badges from employee table (ID, NAME, JOB_TITLE, PHOTO). I downloaded and installed a demo application "USING DYNAMIC IMAGES IN PDF REPORT". It works fine with smale images < 20K. I'm getting the following error for images > 20K :
    "ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: raw variable length too long"
    it seems like a buffer problem.
    could you pls help to solve this problem
    Thanks,
    Ribhi

    Hi Carsten
    That was exactly* I was looking for. Maybe I should Google more in German ;-)
    The main problem was that I defined my image outside the first repeating group (that doesn't repeat, it's always just one object) - the first group is followed by 7 more.
    Just like the "Name" (that's positioned outside the group in the document header), I positioned the image above the table representing the group.
    Doing that, the "Name" is filled correctly, the Image only when the Output Format is Excel or HTML - not Word or PDF ... makes no sense but that's tje way it is.
    After moving the image inside the group....it works great!
    (One more thing...the image size is fixed to the image you use as "dummy". Is there any way to make that more flexible, because now some scaling happens...)???
    @Trent: That was the way we initially did it, but when the size of the row exceeds 32K...you know what happens.. And even with a small image the 32K limit is hit easily
    The way I use it now (very similar to Carsten's description) there is no limit....
    Thank you all!

  • Encountering error while working with Dynamic Regions.

    Hi All,
    I am a beginner in ADF and on a quest to learn ADF. Sometimes I am struggling in the process. Now, when I am working with Dynamic Regions, encountered problem below
    Step 1 : Created a simple department TaskFlow with Department Form
    Step 2: Created a Simple employee TaskFlow with Employee Details
    Step 3: Created a Main page with oracle 2 column layout
    Step 4 : Dragged and dropped department TaskFlow on to main page second facet as Dyanmic region . Created a bean as RegionBean
    Step 5 : Dragged and dropped department TaskFlow as Command Link on the first facet
    Step 6 : Dragged and dropped employee TaskFlow as Command Link on the first facet
    The page runs and shows department information when it renders. But when I click on employees command link, at first it shows employees table with no data and says "ACCESS DENIED ". Then if I click on either department or employee command link, it errors out with below info

  • Issue while deploying dynamic region to stand alone server

    Hi,
    In my application there is one page I have panel splitter, where i have drag and dropped menu-taskflow as regionModel, and created dynamic region on second facet panel.
    <af:region value="#{bindings.menutaskflow1.regionModel}" id="r1"/>
    <af:region value="#{bindings.dynamicRegion4.regionModel}" id="r2"/>
    I have created application level class to handle dynamic region loading.
    This settings are working fine when i run application with integrated web logic server, When I deployed my application to stand alone server, its giving me exception as
    java.lang.IllegalStateException: The expression "#{bindings.menutaskflow1.regionModel}" (that was specified for the RegionModel "value" attribute of the region component with id "r1") evaluated to null.
    This is typically due to an error in the configuration of the objects referenced by this expression.
    If it helps, the expression "#{bindings.menutaskflow1}" evaluates to "null".
    If it helps, the expression "#{bindings}" evaluates to "null". Now using an empty RegionModel instead.
