Rendering question, part 2!

I was trying to clean up my projects in FCP, and in doing so I moved the render folder around. Now I'm having problems with Compressor.
When I try to export using Compressor, I get the spinning pinwheel. I have to 'force quit' out of compressor and then I get the message that media files (the render files) have went offline.
I try to reconnect and it says there are no files associated with the clip. Spotting my problem (moving render files folder), I thought it would be best to delete all my old render folders - any render folder - and I restarted the computer. I thought that a new render folder would appear when I re-opened FCP, which it did, and the problem would be solved. It's not.
I have an internal hard drive that I save all FCP files to. I'm working on 3 projects. In the new render files folder that was created when I re-rendered the video, it has each project listed. So why am I still having this problem?
In the preferences, I have all the media saving to the specified internal hard drive. There's plenty of room, so that's not an issue.
So now, there is only 1 folder for render files. In that folder, each project is listed. But yet, I still can't export to compressor with out it freezing on me and I have to 'force quit' out of compressor and I still get that message that some files went offline.
I emptied the trash, so the files aren't going to a folder in the trash bin.
Aargh - any ideas? I need to send off a project at the end of the day!

I'm with Nick on this. It takes no more time to export self-contained and you do not run into all these other issues.
Drive space is really, really cheap these days ... and my time isn't.
Cheers,
x

  • Oversize documents being rendered with parts of the document cut off due to the large size

We are invoking web services on LiveCycle Server ES 8.2 to convert non pdf documents to pdf. We noticed that oversized documents are rendered with parts of it cut off when submitted for conversion.
Has anyone seen this before and how we can resolve this?
    Thanks in advance.

The oversized file issue happens when we try to convert legal size documents. Part of the document is cut off.
Any documents wider than 8 and 1/2 by 11 has this issues.

  • Experimenting with FCP/ Real time rendering question

Hello, I am preparing to purchase a Mac Pro and spent some time at the local mac affiliate store playing with FCP and motion.
In fcp I took two clips and dropped them in the timeline, adding the 3d cube transition, and some filters to both clips.
I was looking at performance of real time rendering on teh base config of the MP I plan on purchasing.
I then added another clip above these two, intending on dropping the opacity to further push the RTR (real time rendering). This clip overlapped the transition of the two other clips in v1 and v2.
When attempting to play the timeline the viewer window now said "Not Rendered"
    My question is:
Is there a limit to how many tracks can be run under the RTR? Why did I get this message?
My main reason of the move to a Mac Pro is to get away from constantly pre-rendering.
    Thanks everyone in advance!

Sounds like you know what you're doing and what you expect. A factor that has not been mentioned yet, besides RAM, prefs and drive speeds, is your video format.
Also, the new rev of FCP is taking advantage of tons of processing overhead, vastly increasing the amount of stuff you can do in real time. However, real time is largely a preview operation, regardless of the machine or system, unless you are using proprietary codecs, such as Media 100, that might be hardware-assisted. Output is almost always a rendering issue, multiple stacked or processed layers require the creation of new media.
The only way you're going to be able to decide if Macintosh and FCP are right for you is to demo thoroughly and that requires using your own footage.

  • Problem rendering -- only part of the comp gets rendered

I'm puzzled as to why our comps are only getting the first part rendered. then it stops and the rest looks like a still image. could this be a memory issue?
    We're using IMacs with Tiger.
    Thank you!

It's all being done from local files, either on the hard drive or on a flash drive. no network involved.
It would seem the iMacs can't handle it for some reason. They hav 1GB RAM and the processor is wGH PPC G5
This morning i tried the same file on a different computer in the lab, (the instructor's computer) a tower, memory: 1 GB, processer: 1.8, 1.8 GHz Power PC
g5, and it works on that one.
I'm puzzled because last year with the same computers we had no problem. It was the previous version of After Effects, fwiw.
While i'm relieved to see that it could work on the instructor's computer, i'd like to know if there's anything that can be done to make the iMacs work too. are there settings i should be looking at in Preferences perhaps?
    Thanks much.

  • Preview rendering question

Hey all, Mike the newbie has more questions
I imported about 6k images into lightroom and I'm working on organizing them within the collections but my question previews. As I scroll through the library there is a delay in seeing the images as they seem to render realtime.  This seems to impact me more when the library has larger images and I'm scrolling down more.
I imported the images using the 1:1 previews, would going with standard preview produced a better performance result?
How about none?  I read the FAQ but it really doesn't address whether the rendering is altered by choosing this the different preview options.
My second question about previews is there any option to rebuild them, for instance say there is a speed bump with using the standard previews, can I delete the current ones and recreate/rebuild them somehow?

I imported the images using the 1:1 previews, would going with standard preview produced a better performance result?
    How about none?
That's strange. There might be some small performance penalty of having 1:1 previews over standard (since they are physically bigger), but it should be marginal. What is your machine specs?
My guess is either the machine is too slow or your expectations are too high (Lightroom is not speed daemon). Are your sure the previews have actually be built?
My second question about previews is there any option to rebuild them, for instance say there is a speed bump with using the standard previews, can I delete the current ones and recreate/rebuild them somehow?
Yes, you can discard 1:1 previews and rebuilt standard. Use the Library>Previews menus.

  • Video Rendering Question using Premiere Elements 11 and/or Adobe Premiere

The video Rendering /encoding process can take hours even on an I5 processor.
It seems like this has to be done, redone and done again during the editing process.
If I purchase a camera which supports AVCHD 2.0 - does that mean that the encoding process altogether goes away, so that content is able to be transfered natively to the end media and so that I reduce my burn time to a BluRay Disc, using for example, Adobe Premiere Elements 11 or Full Fledged Adobe Premiere, or Sony's Vegas ?
    Newbie to Video Editing.

AVCHD 2.0 only means that the camera can also record 1080p/60, which was previously not part of the AVCHD specification and still is not part of the Blu-ray spec.  It's most useful for smooth slow motion effects.
Anything you add to Premiere Pro will need to be transcoded for Blu-ray, no way around that.

  • FCP to PP questions: part 5

    13) In FCP if you right click on a clip it shows you, amongst other info, the duration of the clip in the timeline. I can't seem to find that same information in PP. Does it exist in an easily accessible way and if so where?
    14) In FCP when you have a cut in a clip you can click on the cut and hit delete and it rejoins the two parts. Can't seem to do this is PP. Is it possible and if so what am I doing wrong?
    15) In the effects window i have created a favourites folder. 2 questions here. Firstly when I drag an effect into the favourites folder if the favourites folder is off the bottom of the window it won't auto scroll down to it so I have to enlarge the bottom of the window in order to have the favourites folder showing so i can drag and drop into it... so am i missing something or is this the way you have to do it
    b) I can't seem to move my sub-folders around in the favourites folder. Or in fact the filters. they just sit where they want. Can I move these sub-folders around?

    cheers
i have had a lot of responses on here and the other forum (from Denis actually) so i'm going to digest it all and make notes on what I can do until it becomes muscle memory and compile my features wish list then hop on over and post them and cross my fingers
i do have to say though that my brief time with PP CS6 has been far more palatable and far less frustrating than my brief time with 5.5 and I do appreciate everyone's input and solutions so far. At it's core PP does seem blinding and I am old fashioned and want tracks and I want naming conventions to remain the same and the things that seem to be missing are pretty much the little things that I have gotten used to from FCP rather than core issues so hopefully they'll come over time and in 6 months I can fondly kiss FCP7 goodbye.
Cheers all and cheers Adobe for not being riddled with hubris.

  • JTree custom cell renderer question

When using a custom cell renderer is their anyway to tell the offset of the current node?
For example if you have a tree with the parent node "Parent" that has a few children nodes it will look something like this:
    Parent
    |----Child 1
    |----Child 2
    |----Child 3
So the parent would have an offset of zero. I want to know how to get the childrens offset? If this is possible?
What I am trying to accomplish:
I have a JTree as a scrollpane rowHeader. While the main body of the scrollpane is a JTable. I need the tree's nodes to fill the entire width so that it looks like part of the table. I figure the row header width - current node offset should be the width that I will need each node to be. Any help is welcome. Thanks.

the renderer tells you the row, the tree can get you a treepath for a row
    TreePath getPathForRow(int row)
That can tell you the depth of the node.

  • FCP renders different part of footage

I see that other people have had this prob in the past but I don't see any solutions... Everything plays fine in my timeline, but when timeline is rendered or exported, FCP substitutes a different part of the footage, so I end up with all these random shots in my piece.
Also, the thumbnail for the clip in the timeline displays a different image than the clip I've selected.
And there is a lot of black at the end of my captured clip (as though audio and video are not in sync).
This all started when I upgraded to FCP 6.
    Thanks anyone who can help!

Sure, thanks. It's happened in a variety of projects, with different types of footage, but I'll give you specs on the project I'm working on now as an example.
Footage is 720x480 29.97 NTSC captured from DVCAM (this footage worked brilliantly in another project last year).
    Sequence settings:
    720x480
    NTSC 3:2
    CCIR 601
    compressor DV/DVCPRO NTSC
    OSX 10.5.6
    FCP 6.0.5
    QT 7.6
We capture footage using a router and AJA Kona LH but have also experienced same prob with footage captured via Firewire.

  • Resource Renderer question

    Hi all,
I'm trying to modify the output of the 'News' collaboration room part. I want to make it so that the title of each news item is a little bigger than the description which shows up below it. The 'News' iview that I'm speaking about is based on the com.sap.netweaver.coll.BulletinBoard iview, which can be found in Content Administration -> Portal Content -> com.sap.ip.collaboration -> Template and Part Content -> Homer -> iViews.
I understand that I need to modify the resource renderer that's mentioned in the layout set which is referenced by the iview. I have created a copy of the layout set that's referenced by the iview, which is AppBulletinBoardExplorer. I have tried tinkering with the resource renderer, which is called AppBulletinBoardResourceRenderer. I've tried changing the Primary Text Style to different settings, but nothing seems to make it change. I believe that what may be getting in the way is the flavor for this resource renderer, which is called 'Second_Level'. I tried playing around with this flavor setting but the changes are too extreme when changing from 'Second_Level'.
Can anyone tell me how to change the output of this iview to make it behave like I want it to?
    Thanks!

    Hi Stephen,
in my portal the News-iView is based on 'com.sap.netweaver.coll.appl.ui.room.Roomnavigation'. The name you mentioned is the name of the pcd-location (i.e the folder).
News are normally based on xml-forms. So I would suggest, that you have a look at the form used here and try to copy and change it by the help of the xml-forms-builder.
You can find more info on help.sa.com http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/8f/fe743c74fa6449e10000000a11402f/frameset.htm

  • Using Dynamic Link for projects cut in Premiere and effects in AE.. Rendering Question..

    Hello,
So this baffles me. I've been working a lot in Premiere CC lately with ProResHQ green screen material. I send the sequence or individual clips using After Effects by right clicking on the clip in Premiere and selecting Create After Effects Composition...
So I do my thing and when it comes time to render, I select render from IN to OUT in Premiere and wait. Now here's my question. If I select render in Premiere, it will be very sluggish until I click on the After Effects icon in my dock which brings the app to the foreground again. For some reason, this will dramatically accelerate my render speeds in premiere after I re-select the AE app. Why is this doing this?
I'm using a new Mac Pro trashcan tower 3.5 clock speed. 64GB ram. Dual D700 graphics card. I am using a USB3.0 drive for my editing and the internal drive on the tower for the scratch. I'm getting a Lacie 1TB little bigdisk thunderbolt2 that will be my prime scratch and video location for future stuff.
    Thanks for your help -
    R

Generally speaking, there is no 'one & only' proper workflow. Just keep in mind the following:
    - not all effects and transitions are properly translated when travelling from PrPro to AE;
    - in Dynamic Link scenario PrPro communicates with AE projects via single instance of headless AE, which creates a bottleneck. See this good old thread on Dynamic Link workflow, pay attention to Todd's comments;
    - since AE allows to set a DI as a proxy to dynamically linked comp, with reasonable amount of dynamically linked comps in PrPro project you can enjoy the best of both worlds, instantly switching between a DI and dynamically linked comp back and forth with no needs to replace anything in PrPro timeline. Test on your own with which amount of dynamically linked comps setting DIs as proxies still work. For my rig test 30 min sequence built out of 935 dynamically linked comps, which are just source footages in their own comps, hence, the equivalent to rendered DIs set to proxies, takes around 27 hours to render, while 30 min sequence built out of the same 935 source footages renders in real time.

  • Subtab partial page rendering question

    Hi,
I have a subtablayout bean with two adv table regions. The subtab links in the subtabbar bean are set to partial action. When I run the application for the first time, the subtab one is shown and clicking on the second tab, the VO tied to the second adv table is fired but I see only one row in it.
When I click to go back to the first tab and then back to the second tab again I see all the records of second VO now.
I change the action type from fire partial action to fire action for the second tab link. After this, I see all the records displayed the first time I navigate to second tab.
What should I do to see all the records in the second tab the first time I navigate to it while keeping the partial page rendering mode.
    Thank you,
    Arun

Thank you for your time Srinath.
I used getCurrentRowIndex on the VO tied to the second tab and it returns -1 for the first time as well as subsequent navigations to the second tab.
The table navigation shows "1-10 ..Next" (my setting is to show 10 records at a time in the advance table). It is not showing the 200-201 range.
"getRowCount(..) would explicitly re-execute the query. This answers why you see the whole set of rows when you have this in the SOP. "
I am not sure what you mean here..could you please explain. I understand 'getRowCount would re-execute the query' part. But the normal behavior for the advance table should have been to show the first 10 records since the VO has already been executed once.

  • FCP6 - rendering question

Just got FCP6. Question: I am editing primarily HDV in the sequence. When I drop in a SD clip or a still, there is a green bar over the the clip / still in the timeline. When I render, it looks like it renders for a split second, but the green bar is still there. The SD clips and the stills play just fine, but there is still a green bar over it. What's going on?

Check to make sure ALL of the render types under the Render->Sequence menus are checked.

  • Basic save (rendering) question

    Hi ,
I am lost on some of the basics, I have a MOV file which I wanted to cut up a bit and then simple resave , apparently this is not
possible , and or rerender the file in its cut version. There are so many options on how to render a project to movie format
How can I best import a MOV or AVI recut it and simple re save it without losing having to lose pixels in the process
    thanks a bunch
    Version is Premiere Por CS3 3.0.0 (374)

    Ralph,
Depending on your source footage, you might not be able to do what you want 100%.
For the .MOV footage, you might be better off getting Apple's QuickTime Player Pro (US$29 upgrade/unlock). It will allow limited editing, about that which you describe, and will do a pretty good job at letting you Save in the same format.
Now, if you have DV-AVI Type II material, you can do what you want, and then Export as DV-AVI Type II (uncheck Recompress) and there is only very minimal loss in quality. I doubt that you could ever detect it.
As a bit of background, let's step through just what happens, when one has footage that is not I-frame (all Frames individually present). First, PrPro will basically convert this GOP (Group of Pictures) footage into full I-frame. The "difference Frames" in that footage will be rendered in, so that one can edit at a Frame level. At this point, you no longer have that original GOP structure, but full I-frame. If you THEN Export to the original GOP format, you WILL recompress that footage, loosing quality. The best that you can probably do is to use an intermediate CODEC, like the Lagarith Lossless, to get an Exported file, though in a new format, not the original compressed GOP one.
With .MOV files, if the CODEC used is the Animation CODEC, you can do editing and then Export to .MOV, using the Animation CODEC w/ minimal loss in quality. With other .MOV CODEC's, it will very likely not be as good, but that will depend on the exact CODEC used in both the source footage and the Exported footage.
MOV, AVI, MPEG, WMV are but "wrappers," and much can be inside them - they are NOT created equal. This ARTICLE will give you a bit of background on these "wrappers." I'd also suggest doing a Google search for "GOP" and read some of the articles on Group of Pictures formats. I believe that you'll get the idea of what that footage is all about. Jim Taylor, author of DVD Demystified, has a great analogy, "birds on a telephone," that outlines the GOP structure in clear, easy to understand terms.
Good luck, and sorry that the answer to your question is - it depends.
