Rendering to DVD

So my original footage is 1920x1080 AVCHD 25fps and when I create a DVD (after transcoding) I always lose a little bit of my image size and when played on a DVD player my image seems to have been cropped. Not by much just the edge.
I have tried exporting in Prem Pro (cs6) to Mpeg2 and then burning in Encore but when I play my DVD on a player it is still a little cropped. However when I play on my monitor it is fine resolution.
Can any one help with this query?

Is this normal?!
You used "stretch to fill" in your earlier settings. It is unlikely that it was actually "cropped," but it might have looked both odd and cropped. It should have looked odd even on the computer, so I'm not sure I know what you were seeing. If all is good now (using Ann's recommendation for scale to fill), I wouldn't worry about it too much.
I would pursue Ann's question about PAR; there's some chance you do have other problems.
Edit: forgot to mention. On your earlier export settings, you have the target and max both set to 7. That gives no room for the bitrate to increase, and is about the same as using CBR 7. You should be ok increasing the max to 8. This has nothing to do with the problem you are asking about. It may improve the quality a bit.

  • Slow motion jerkiness when rendered to DVD

I've upgraded to iMovie HD 6 and I am working on projects that I started in iMovie 4. This has happened because I am working on 5 or 6 projects at the same time and I have only now got to the point where I want them on DVD.
All slow motion clips look fine in iMovie, but when they are rendered to DVD they are incredibly jerky. BUT, not all of them. This seems ridiculous, if they were all jerky OK, but only some of them.
Does anybody have a solution, or do I have to re-install iMovie 5.
Please don't suggest JSE software as there are far too many clips to be exporting and re-importing.
    IMac G4   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

As a bug, some early iMovie HD version (AFAIR v5)didn't deinterlace slo-mo clips. This produced terrible shaky motion on an interlaced TV if the source material was interlaced.
Later versions fixed this. If this is the case, then you must re-render those clips, re-import and render them or use JES Deinterlacer to deinterlace the shaky clips.

  • Field Flickering when rendering to DVD or TV

I'm running into the same problem over and over again. And I can't seem to figure out how to solve it.
    The problem I'm having is:
I load my video using the Matrox RTX.2 card, CS4 recognises this as an Upper Field footage (previous versions always were Lower Field). I edit the video, add some effects, and speed up or slow down some files.
Now, when rendering this to DVD Mpeg (or any other DVD compatible extention), creating the DVD (in Encore CS4) and burning it to a PAL DVD format then playing it on TV the slowmotion parts and speedups are Flickering back and forward (the usual field problem)
I've done everything to check it.
    - I rendered everything upper field
    - I rendered everything lower field
    - I changed footage in Premiere CS4 to upper and lower
    - I rendered in AVI, MPG (DVD and Native)
    - I rendered on a PC using the DV codec (so without the Matrox Card)
    - I rendered on a Mac with Premiere CS4 (and a Blackmagic card)
    - I done Interpret footage inside Encore with all the variations above
On the end it came down to this, I had to remove the fields in Premiere, I rendered without fields. Now, obviously it's not jittering anymore, but it is less sharp and smooth (because it's more flat and half the frames it supposed to be). That is a solution for now, but not on the long run. Premiere CS3 and previous never had any problems with fields, as long as the production pipeline stayed the same it's no problem
    - I also checked the sequence settings
Does anyone has these kind of problems, or does anyone know how to solve this? I tried on 4 systems.. different from eachother.
    Thanks in advance,
    Ruud Zeelenberg

Try without using anything Matrox related. Likely your problem disappears.

  • Error message when rendering a DVD

When I'm burning a DVD (or img file), I get this error message: "Not Authorized. This application cannot be used to play this content. In order to play this content, please open it with iTunes."
I'm assuming that there is something wrong with one of the audio files. How do I find out which one and how do I correct it?

This may be because you have added copy protected audio from iTunes to your iMovie project (or iDVD menu).
The solution is to either update your iTunes library to non-DRM status, or burn that audio track to a CD in AIFF format and re-import it into iTunes before using it in iMovie or iDVD.

  • Fuzzy text after rendering to DVD!!

    Hello,
I've successfully wrote my movie to DVD but the text (especially the white text on a black background) is fuzzy and unclear. Interesting enough, the black text on a white background is clearer, and even better text on a textured background.
Any suggestions on how to fix, or at least improve this.
I used Lucida bright text, and the average font size is about 30 to 33 pt.
    Thanks in advance!!!!
    Greener

    Update,
Since posting my question I have scrolled through previous posts looking for answers. I have read the following suggestions:
    1. Adjust RGB to 235 and opacity to %90.
I did a series of test clips with RGB adjustments and opacity. I also changed fonts (from Lucida bright) to Arial. I read that fonts with 2 pixels or less are unsuitable (I'm not sure what Lucida bright is so in my test clips, I changed it just in case). In my test I used 30, 35 and 40 point text.
Long story, short: I couldn't tell the difference between my old clips and the adjusted ones. Text still slightly fuzzy, especially on the scolling credits.
Perhaps I'm missing something (likely, as I'm very new to this) or this is as good as it gets.
Any further suggestions or advice? Thanks,

  • About rendering and dvd menu creation in FCP X

Thank you all for the advise  to increase my imacs' RAM,  and also i have a question, ie, can we make dvd menu in FCP X with chapter and also i have another question is that , the imac display is 'prograssive or interlanced', when prograssive video will play it shows a strobe effects, ( canon 7d video ) other interlanced video playback have no problem , how can i solved this problem.
    justin

FCP X will only burn the one simple DVD that you see. Just about the only way to customise it is to add a picture.
    Re: Your second question.
Playback on computer is always progressive.
What shutter speed was used to shoot your footage?
    What codec is it?
    What are the project settings?
What is the specification of your mac?

  • Compressor 4 insert DVD dialog box does not come up after rendering

Does anyone know what I might be doing wrong when after rendering a DVD project, the process looks like its finished rendering but the insert DVD dialog box never comes up.
Very frustrating, but probably something dumb...
    Thanks

Everything looks good in the Batch Window.
I'm guessing permissions or preferences, assuming it's not hardware.
Run Compressor Repair to flush things out…make sure the Trash Preferences box is checked.
Run Disk Utlity, select your boot drive and Repair Permissions.
If that doesn't do it, in Job Action, change output device to Hard Drive and se whether it will make a disk image.
    Good luck.

Any ideas why iTunes renders my DVD drive unusable?  I have uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes and when reinstalling I had my device manager open and saw during the installation how my DVD player went from accessible to not being able to start.
    Why is this happening?

There's a few different possibilities with a code 10, Kelly. To narrow in on the likeliest culprits it would help to have a closer look at your system.

  • Encore not Rendering

When I click File > Render > Menu it goes through all the Frames until the last one. Right now it is just sitting at 415 and going no where. Sometimes when I do this, it will flicker between 415 and 411. Anyone have any ideas? I have already left it go for about 30 minutes and it didnt go anywhere. I am only rendering the DVD menu with no video footage all.

    Bill,
I see that you found the Encore forums. Because a lot of folk use Encore, who do not use Premiere (especially from the stand-alone days), you are more likely to get much more info here, than in just the Premiere forum.
Now, for your problem, I'd check out Rudd's reply in:
    http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.59b72436/0
You will be given another link, and it *should* help you. If not, please post back with what did not work (with regard to what you did with the info in that link) in your situation.
If that does NOT help you, then please outline your Project more, i.e. Assets, their type, Durations, Project structure, etc. The more detail, the better. Please also be specific with regards to the Assets, "AVI" is not enough info to really help. "DV-AVI," or similar, is much better.
    Good luck,

  • Graphic and Rendering artifacts

I am attempting to overclock a Neo2-LS with
    a P4 2.4b at 160 FSB.
At 150FSB running at 2701mhz the system is stable as a rock.
But at 160FSB I have been noticing some graphic artifacts
while rendering mpeg2 (DVD). In Pinnacle Studio I start to
see little green dots in the preview screen and then on the
mpeg file I see these artifacts as well.
The system does not crash and I do have sound but I have noticed my sons game does not behave at this overclock either.
I have my Core voltage at 1.7v  memory at 2.65v and AGP at
    1.6.
    Running AGP/PCI bus at 67/33
Temps do not go over 55C on any chips.
Anyone have any ideas if there is a way to get the graphics/rendering to stabilize at this overclock level?

AGP Voltage manipulation is a must for overclocked systems, where the AGP bus and/or video card is overclocked.  I run my R9800 Pro at 441/371 with no artifacting.  But ONLY if I raised the AGP voltage.  I run my AGP Voltage at 1.8V

  • Workflow for DVD from HD+SD source...

Based on the lengthy so-called "single-field conversion" issues with iM09, I'm looking for some inputs on the best workflow to retain high quality for DVD distribution for mixed media - video shot with HD & SD camcorders..
    Here's what I did:
A> Converted all the SD (720x480) MPEG clips to progressive using QT
B> Imported 480p MPEG clips into iMovie 9
C> Edited 1080i + 480p material in iM and exported using the HD preset. Previous tests I did confirmed no diff between the HD export preset (newly added in the latest update), and the QT custom export for 720p.
D> Imported the 720p file into iDVD and re-rendered to DVD format.
Resulting DVD video was good (not bad, and obviously nowhere near HD quality). Wondering if anybody else has a diff workflow they would like to share that minimizes the rendering steps for HD+SD material to retain good quality?
    Thanks!
P.S. Unfortunately, I sold off my copy of FCE when I upgraded to iM9, otherwise iM9 XML --> FCE --> iDVD might have been an option.

    function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
    shooternz wrote:
I dont get why one would need to scale down an HD sequence to an SD Sequence  (in PPRO) first?
That must invoke "processing" for the scale and PAR  and add the complication of letterbox or otherwise.
A Dynamic Link of the HD Sequence to Encore does the scaling automatically (and well) and the image retains 16:9  aspect.
A MPEG2 - DVD export file  also does the scaling automatically and you import that into an Encore Project where no further transcoding is required.
Well try it and let me know how it compares for you, I would be curious what your results are. I have recently had to do a a slew of HDV to WS DVD with timecode window burns. It was taking so long when i was linking the hdv project to encore that i tried nesting the hdv footage in the WS NTSC project and it rendered faster for me so i stuck with it.
I assumed it had something to do with the GPU doing the scaling and with premiere rendering the video in SD rez faster then it can render in HD rez then scale it down for encoding in encore.

  • Setting quality when burning dvd

Hi, I'm working on my first project on my brand new iMac. Finished creating the 23 minute movie, shared it in iDVD and burned it and found the quality to be quite low. I'll try a better quality dvd, but through reading these posts I've seen mention of settings that relate to the quality of a disk...where would this be in the process? Thanks for the help (and the patience!)

    Welcome to the Forum...
Select "Project Info" under "Project" menu item...
Select "Professional Quality" for "Encoding" for the best quality rendering to DVD. The "Best Perf" option is a misnomer...read below for details...
More info from Apple Help file:
+The encoding settings in iDVD are the following:+

    +Best Performance+
+When you select Best Performance, iDVD encodes your video in the background as you’re working on your project instead of waiting until you burn it. This can significantly reduce the amount of time it takes to create a finished DVD. This is a good choice if your project is an hour or less in duration (for a single-layer disc). You’ll finish your project more quickly, and the encoding quality will be excellent for the amount of video you have.+
+Best Performance encodes your video at a preset bit rate that produces great quality for projects that can easily fit on your disc. If you have a larger project that needs to be squeezed onto a disc, you should select one of the other encoding options.+

    +High Quality+
+This is the best encoding option for larger projects that are between 1 and 2 hours long (for a single-layer disc). With this setting, iDVD chooses the best bit rate possible for the amount of data you need to fit onto your disc. It’s the only option that “squeezes” all the data onto a disc at a bit rate that ensures a high video quality in your burned DVD. Because iDVD does not encode in the background with this option, it takes longer to burn your disc. The encoding process begins when you burn the DVD instead of when you start working on your project.+

    +Professional Quality+
+The Professional Quality option uses advanced technology to encode your video, resulting in the best quality of video possible on your burned DVD. You can select this option regardless of your project’s duration (up to 2 hours of video for a single-layer disc and 4 hours for a double-layer disc). Because Professional Quality encoding is time-consuming (requiring about twice as much time to encode a project as the High Quality option, for example) choose it only if you are not concerned about time.+

  • Several DVD problems

    Hello there,
I'd just like to ask you, if anyone already experienced one of the following problems - as my Mac is really suffering from it.
DVD Burning: While burning a DVD through iDVD, the rendering process crashes the entire computer just at the moment, when audio rendering should be begun (Message: You need to restart your computer. Press and hold down power button, no crash logs). After the restart, rendering will work without a problem. (problem can be reproduced, in fact everytime I start a new DVD project)
iDVD 6: Rendering my DVD projects is extremely slow. The last project was a 2 hours video project with sound; cut with iMovie HD 6; rendering process in iDVD needed 3 hours - then it crashed, I need to restart the computer and the rendering process - another 12 hours were needed by iDVD 6. With iDVD 5 the project only needed 2 to 3 hours.
DVD Playback: When watching a DVD, the entire computer crashes (Message: You need to restart your computer...). After restart, DVD playback is working fine.
Other programs, that use the DVD frameworks: The same problems as for DVD playback.
DVD recognition: After having used QuickTime or programs that use QuickTime, DVDs no longer will be recognized (DVD player will open but it says, No DVD available and it won't show up in Finder). After restart, the same DVD will be recognized - no more problems.
I suppose, it is a problem related to some or all of the DVD frameworks in Mac OS X.
I already tried: Repair permissions and Clean Install

And a LaCie d2 FireWire - DVD DL - burner (same problems while using this drive)

Sounds like each time you restart, the Mac OS rebuilds itself giving you the expected results for completing your objective of burning an iDVD, which makes sense. What doesn't make sense is what is currently causing your G4 to crash each time you ask it to burn a DVD forcing a restart in order to accomplish this task....assuming it does indeed burn to disc.
Here's what I recommend since I suspect you may be having an issue with external devices. Disconnect any and all externals from your emac (except the keyboard and mouse). Launch iMovie. Build a short 3 min. iMovie project and share it to iDVD6. Post back with the results and let us know if your mac encounters the same results w/o any externals connected to your mac.
If your ext. device is what you are currently using to burn your project, then i'd recommend burning this short project to a disc image first and thereafter connecting the ext. fw burner to complete the final stage.
Hope this helps but if not please feel free to post back.

  • Video quality gets worse when adding title (DV to DVD)

I've inserted a single DV clip captured from my camcorder, added one title at the begging and shared it with iDVD (08), where I created (and rendered) a DVD from it. At the moment where the title is overlaying the original the picture gets worse. As soon as the title is gone, the video is back to normal. I know this is just bad rendering, but no matter which settings I choose in iDVD the result always looks the same. Any suggestions, or I should just live with it?
P.S. I wanted to use iMovie 08 but the shared video it creates looks just plain bad for the DVD.

    should just live with it?
Yes, this is a known problem for perfectionists like you and me and a few others:
