Rendering Video Previews increases number of videos

Well,
I have a clip that is about 2 minutes long and has 57 video clips, about 10 cross-dissolves and a simple preset look from magic bullet 1.4
When I hit render a few hours ago it said "Rendering 1 of 57 Video Previews" and "Rendering Frame 1 of 2889".....so I took a nap.
Four hours later it's still rendering....and now it sais "Rendering 5786 of 18759 Video Previews" and a similar astronomic Number in Frames.
I found out that it happens when I select the area of my entire clip and hit "Render entire work area" to even render the many yellow parts of the sequence.

I have the same problem as this original post. I have taken a sequence that was incorrectly created using 29.97 instead of 25p and copied and pasted the entire project into a new sequence that is 25p.
I have fixed all the keyframes for the audio which did not come over in the copy and paste and then went to render the timeline. I first tried to render just a short section as a work area so I could see if my rolling credits were smooth. But the render is constantly creating more and more video previews. Far mare than the project has. Estimated time left says 00:00:00 and the render bar never go green past the first 100 frames or so.
I have left it to render for hours just to see if it finishes, but the video preview count just grows and grows.
It does the same whether I render the whole project, or just the work area.
Using Premier CS5 on windows 7 64 bit. Build 5.01
Any help would be greatly appreciated. This first post was over 2 months ago, I wonder if any Adobe folks have an idea of what this problem is?

  • No Video Preview When Capturing DV Video.

I have looked through the forums, scoured the internet, and even worked with Adobe technical support to no avail. I am using a Canon ZR80 to transfer some of my older home movies from DV tapes to my PC. Adobe Premiere Pro captures audio and video just fine, but I can not watch the video as it captures. This is NOT HD video so PP should let me preview it. Here's my system:
    Windows 8 x64
    Intel i7-3930K 6 core processor @3.20 GHz
    32GB RAM
    Nvidia GeForce GTX 560 ti
    Directx 11
I have tried using legacy FireWire drivers as many have suggested with no effect. I have tried it on PP 5.5, 6.0 and CC all do the same thing. I have tried 6 different video card drivers. I even did a clean install of Windows 8. I have dual monitors and read somewhere to remove one, tried that no help. Worked with Adobe support for 2 days till we got to the point that he said I "should just get a refund".
I really don't want to give up on pp for such a minor issue, but I also don't want to keep paying $23 a month for software that is not 100%.
If ANYBODY has ANY ideas, I would greatly appreciate it!

I also don't want to keep paying $23 a month for software that is not 100%.
Software as complex as Premiere Pro will never be 100% bug free.
I'm also inclined to believe this is more of a system issue than a PP issue.  I don't recall other reports of this nature, and it works fine on my own system.
The only other thing I can think of to suggest is another FireWire port, possibly by adding a FireWire card to the system.  I've read that the chip makes a difference, so research over in the Hardware forum.

  • Mac pro HDMI video preview goes yellow solid and turns off by itself often

I work with 2 monitors. main monitor is Apple thunderbolt cinema display 27", and second monitor is LG HD tv connected through HDMI of MacPro.
when I use aftereffect, I use my LG TV as video preview, and it goes yellow solid and turns off itself very often.
I use Final Cut Pro X and, davinci 10 lite with LG TV also, but it works well in these condition.
It makes trouble with aftereffects only.
I hope it can be solved.
    thank you

    thank you, tim.
English is not my first language. so I'm not sure I fully understand with this.
I will show you my full hardware setting
    * Does preview on the LG monitor work at all? When does it go yellow? When does it turn off?
    - it works initially. A few minutes after I start making RAM preview, yellow screen appear(the RAM preview keeps going anyway),
if I stop the video preview(command + /), and restart video preview, it turns on normal,
but if I don't stop video preview, 10 or 20 seconds later it turns off by itself, and all the options in 'Output Device' disappear except 'Computer Monitor Only', so I should restart After Effects to turn on video preview.
    * When you have the problem, if you open Activity Monitor, is Adobe QT32 Server running?
    - yes, it(it appears red characters, is it normal?) looks running
    * Do you have Premiere Pro installed? Does it have the same problem when previewing to the LG monitor?
    - no, Premiere Pro works well.
    - I tried to remove Blackmagic Codec.component , but it didn't solve my problem
let me know if you need more information about this.
    thank you again.

  • Button video previews.  Help!

I am currently working on a DVD project that requires a single video preview pane that shows video based on the focus state of a button.
For example if my Menu has 8 buttons, when 1 button is focused the preview window shows an associated clip. The idea is that when the focus state moves to button2, the preview pane will show alternate clips for button2.
Is this possible in Encore CS3, and can anyone provide information or links that could help me accomplish this goal.

Auto-activate works by activating the menu button as soon as it is selected.
So on the first menu, the first video clip is visible in the button, and the link for that button is set to the timeline that is supposed to play.
If the user navigates to the second button, then it is automatically activated and the user is taken to a duplicate menu of the first, only this time video 2 is playing in the thumbnail. If the user presses Enter on the remote, then timeline 2 plays. If the user navigates to button 3 or back to button 1, then the auto-activate feature takes them to the appropriate duplicate menu and the process is repeated.
This technique involves lots of menus, lots of complex linking and many opportunities for error. And even if you get it right, the DVD won't work correctly (and the illusion will be spoiled) on a software DVD player. When the user hovers the mouse cursor over the button on a software DVD player, that gesture is insufficient to trigger the auto-activate feature, so the menu won't change to its duplicate.
If you have background audio and/or video in the menus, then be aware that the video and audio will start over when the menus change. Again, this will spoil the illusion on *any* DVD player.

  • Number of video previews goes up infinitely during render

During a render in my timeline the number of video previews to be rendered climbs infinitely and so the render never completes.
This footage is a combination of mts files shot on a Sony FS700, and 4k files shot with a recorder using the same camera. It seems that Premiere is able to render half of the timeline and then nothing beyond a certain point. Does anyone know what could be causing this?

I just posted this problem under a new thread:
Rendering effects on timeline loops in Premiere Pro
    before I found this thread.
My environment specifics can be seen in that post.
Mark, your post gave the the idea on how to track this down.
In this particular timeline I had non-anamorphic 720P 29.97 footage on an anamorphic 23.97 timeline. I also had a short AE clip which was 23.97 square pixels. I removed the AE clip and changed the timeline to 29.97 square and the render effects worked.
It sounds like you're on the right track but it may be more pervasive than your post indicated. It may be that ANY mismatch between a clip and the sequence setting can cause this problem.
I hope you get this one fixed soon - it sure puts a crimp in my editing!

  • Video Preview Error: Error Compiling movie. Unknown error.

Problem in Adobe Premiere Pro CC - Rendering movie prior to Exporting.
I have cleared all Temp and Cache files to make sure I have enough space for rendering (126GB free space), but I still get a Video Preview Error message when I try to Render or Export.
What should I be looking for in my movie settings to clear the "unknown error"?

05555...did you get this reconciled??? If so, what did you do....I have encountered the same window myself, today.

  • FCPX 10.0.3: no video preview, crash

    Hi all,
I have just updated FCPX 10.0.2  to 10.0.3 and it is a disaster.
The video preview is not working anymore: when i try to view one video from my events and pass the mouse over one, i hear the video sound, the time progressing but nothing appears in the video preview. If i try to play it (using the play button), FCPX hangs. I have to kill it.
It is the same when i edit a project: no video preview at all. It is very strange.
I tried a new project, import new videos, trash the prefs, reinstall FCPX from scratch with no events no projects, even make the lion combo 10.7.3 update (I updated lion the day before)...
My FCPX is useless. Do you have any advice that may help me?
Is it possible to roll back to 10.0.2 version via the mac app store?
    My config; MBP Mid2009 15" (GPU 9600MGT).
    Regards,
    Chris.

    ANYONE???
FWIW, I seem to be having similar issues. Used 10.0.3 for the first time earlier today (under Snow Leopard, on an 8-core Mac Pro now with 24GB of RAM). Constantly losing video -- audio plays fine. Never seemed to have this problem in 10.0.2.  (Lots of other problems, mind you -- just not this one.)
Found I can usually get video back by opening Playback Prefs and making a change (like switching between "use proxy media" and "use original/optimized"), then waiting 2-3 minutes while the orange bar which has now appeared over the ENTIRE timeline -- even though NO changes have been made to the timeline whatsoever -- slowly goes away.
One of the triggers for losing the video in my case seems to be letting the Timeline play through till past the end. And I say "past" the end, because there's now suddenly a weird 2-3 minute void after the final clip of video. No audio, no "gap clips", just a big stretch of nothing. I can't figure out how to get rid of it, and the fade out I'd applied long ago to the last video clip no longer works. When the playhead reaches that transition (or nears the end of the last video clip, even with the transition removed) the video just cuts to black. The audio then ends normally while the playhead just keeps going into this mysterious blank emptiness for almost 3 minutes -- at least that's how much extra black I get when I do an Export of the Project.
Naturally I've tried re-doing the end transition; and have of course made sure there is no media of any kind down at the end of timeline which might be causing this strange empty section. Even tried carefully selecting all the real clips on the Timeline and Copy/Pasting them into a whole new project. No difference. The gap at the end just reappears.
(Meantime, as others have reported, I also experienced loss of parameters on several simple titles in Projects created in 10.0.2 and updated/imported into 10.0.3. Likewise for the irrational re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-re-rendering. Have not yet had time to test any of this on a newly-created 10.0.3 project, but I really do look forward to the day when the bulk of my work in FCP-X might actually involve  editing, with the time spent in trouble-shooting and unpaid beta-testing perhaps reduced to just a few hours a week. A crazy idea, I know -- but I can still dream.)

  • Problems with video previews: image freezes when scrubbing (CS6)

I just installed CS6 on my computer after working with CS5.5 and I encountered a strange problem with my EOS5D Mk 2 and also Ixus 100IS footage in Bridge CS6 (actually this happens with every video).
In CS5.5 I was able to preview my mov files and scrub through them without many problems (aside from a casual crash, but hey... )
In CS6 now the video preview starts and everything seems fine, until I scrub to a later point in the video. At that point the video freezes but the sound goes on. The only way to make the video run again is to click pause and then click play again. You can imagine that scrubbing through videos isn't much fun..
Has anyone ever had a problem like that with CS6?
Since CS5.5 is still installed, I checked and found out, that in Bridge CS5.5 everything is still working fine: No video freezes there - only in CS6
I already updated to the latest graphics card driver and all updates from CS6. Does anyone have an idea what I could do?
    some stats about my computer:
    win7 64bit
nvidia geforce GTX 590, driver 301.42
    no other video software installed
Aside from that, I also realized that video quality in the preview area isn't particularly brilliant (neither in CS5.5 nor in CS6). Since the video is scaled to the preview window size, I sometimes get scaling artefacts/moirees. Is there a way to smooth the video playback, like you could in a regular video player?

Perhaps your understanding of rendering is different than mine.  I think of it more as combining edits to form a new video.  Are you using rendering as the same as playback?   Also, not sure how you can have a system that has only CS6 files, as files are the same for CS5.5.  I must be missing something here.
Manniac described the error well "In CS6 now the video preview starts and everything seems fine, until I scrub to a later point in the video. At that point the video freezes but the sound goes on. The only way to make the video run again is to click pause and then click play again".
Believe that error is fixed as my video play OK now.

  • Video preview not working

When working on a project, the video preview is no longer working, neither for individual video preview or for overall preview of the project video composite.  I have no idea what to do.  It worked before.  I am on Windows 7 64 bit with Premiere Elements 10.

Since you are a Premiere Elements 10 user with a display problem, the first order of business is to determine if your computer uses a NVIDIA GeForce video card/graphic card. The Announcement at the top of this forum tells it all, the problem and the how to fix. For your convenience, the following is a copy/paste of that Announcement.
Premiere Elements 10 NVIDIA Video Card Driver Roll Back
If you are a Premiere Elements 10 user whose Windows computer uses a NVIDIA GeForce video card and you are
experiencing Premiere Elements 10 display and/or unexplained program behavior, then your first line of
troubleshooting needs to be rolling back the video card driver version instead of assuring that it is up to date.
Since October 2013 to the present, there have been a growing number of reports about display and unexplained
workflow glitches specific to the Premiere Elements 10 user whose Windows computer has a NVIDIA GeForce
video card. If this applies to you, then the “user to user” remedy is to roll back the NVIDIA GeForce video card
driver as far as is necessary to get rid of the problems. The typical driver roll back has gone back as far as
March – July 2013 in order to get a working Premiere Elements 10. Neither NVIDIA nor Adobe has taken any
corrective action in this regard to date, and none is expected moving forward.
Since October 2013, the following thread has tried to keep up with the Premiere Elements 10 NVIDIA reports
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1317675
Older NVIDIA GeForce drivers can be found
    http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Find.aspx?lang=en-us
A February 2014 overview of the situation as well as how to use the older NVIDIA GeForce drivers for
the driver roll back can be found
    http://atr935.blogspot.com/2014/02/pe10-nvidia-video-card-roll-back.html
If you fall into the Premiere Elements 10 NVIDIA GeForce display problem, then your answer is to roll back your card driver
(typically that has been requiring roll back to about May 2013). This factor needs to be ruled in or out at the onset of the
    troubleshooting plan.
    Equally important questions include:
    a. If you start a new project, do you have the same problem?
    b. If you use the same source video in the project with or without going to a new project, do you have the same problem?
We will be watching for your progress. Please do not hesitate to say if you need clarification on anything written.

  • 2nd Graphic card displays white only if used for Video Preview in FCP

I just bought a Vavida 8800 graphics card, so that I could connect 3 monitors total. I have my main two monitors on my table connected to the Navida, and a flatscreen TV behind me in the living room connected to the original Redeaon graphics card. All 3 monitors display fine, but when I try to set the Video Preview in FCP, either on RAW or Full Screen, all I get is a white Image. This worked fine with only 2 monitors.
    Does anyone have any ideas?
    Christian

Does anyone know if Apple is working on the second graphic card issue in FCP?
I installed an ATI 3870 on top of the 2600 that came with my MacPro, assuming that it will work.
But I'm having all kinds of problems in FCP, random freezes, long waits for rendering and exporting, etc.
I have two Dell 24 inches monitors and a smaller 19 inches Acer, and I would love to have some extra real estate to leave the timeline in one Dell, the preview in another, and the canvas and viewer on the Acer.
I read I can get the Blackmagic Intensity to output HDMI/DVI (via an adapter, I guess, since the Blackmagic has no DVI output and my monitors have no HDMI), so my question is: if I get the Blackmagic can I use it's output for other programs (Photoshop, ProTools, and so on)? or it will only appear as a valid output in FCP? In other words, does the Blackmagic works as a graphic card when FCP is not active?
Sorry for the silly question, but I already bought a card that is actually useless for me, and I don't want to spend $250 in another.
    Thanks

  • Sequence Settings Video Previews and GPU?

    Dear PrP CC Users,
I wanted to get some information partaining to sequence settings.
In the bottom box of Sequence Settings: Video Previews. There are three un/tick boxes:
    Maximum Bit Depth
    Maximum Render Quality
Composite In Linear Color (requires GPU acceleration or max render quality)
Normally I tick all of them. I have a Windforce GTX 770 4GB CUDA mercury engine enabled. I have also set to Optimise rendering for: Performance.
    My questions are as follows.
-Do these selections effect the final output of a timeline for delivery or is it merely for during regular playback and preview rendering?
-Also, when I export using Media Encoder through dynamic link, is it bad to Use Previews for a faster export, often I export to ProRes4444 for Grading, I heard that Preview files will always differ as its created by the GPU and can slightly change the colours dependent on the GPU you have, thus is it better to export and allow it to re-render using the CPU in Media Encoder (I always set maximum bit depth and quality)?
-Lastly, in the export process, when I select Maximum Bit Depth, there are options of the bit depth value (32, 48, 64) does this become redundant since I checked maximum bit depth?
    Thank you.

The first two boxes only affect previews.  The same boxes in the Export Settings dialog will override those and determine the output.
Using previews for export is generally not a good idea, as doing so will incur an additional compression step.  The exception is when the previews are lossless (or nearly so, as with DNxHD).
Not working with ProRes, I've never seen those options.

  • Video Preview files

How can I change my video preview render file preferences?  I'd like to render my timeline previews in Pro Res, but that setting in my Sequence Settings dialaog box is grayed out.  I'm on a Mac and I do have Final Cut installed on my iMac.
The Preview File Format box shows I-Frame only MPEG and it's grayed out...
    thanks

    bjkupfer wrote:
It may be rebuilding the sequence, but I don't think it's re-rendering the files if I have the "Use preview" box checked.  The video has color correction (Magic Bullet) applied to almost all the clips.  It has titles on many of the clips.  All I know, is that one sequence that has pro res preview files being used takes MUCH LESS time than the same sequence that doesn't use preview files, exported to Pro Res.  Both files end up the same size after export, both look the same but one renders in 1/2 the time of it's duration while the other takes 5 times its duration...
I have hit and miss success with the Use Preview button.  Some times, my exports are super fast, others (such as one I'm waiting for as I write this) are ridiculous.  I have a 3-minute sequence, entirely rendered to ProRes previews.  Export time is 25 minutes, whether Use Previews is checked on or off.  Apparently, Pr is re-rendering the entire sequence.  25 minutes is about how long it took to Render all effects in the Work Area (set to the entire Sequence) before I Exported/Make Movie.  I shouldn't have bothered rendering.

  • Premiere Pro CC and BMD Intensity Pro Video Preview issues

I know there are many people having issues and confusion surrounding video preview file formats. For the most part, I have not had major problems, except this:
I'm trying to figure out why PPro doesn't want to output video preview with certain file formats on my Intensity Pro card, specifically 720p media. See below for system specs.
For the most part, any sequence created at 1080p24 or 30 out to an HDTV (1080i and p) via HDMI plays back fine. My sequence settings will reflect the correct file format as the media within it (usually ProRes).
When I have to edit a clip that came to me as 720p24, 25, 30, etc, I drop it into a sequence, have it change the settings to match the clip, and voila, I get playback. It would choose I frame only MPEG as the video preview file format. The originating file format doesn't really matter, whether it's h.264 .mp4, or H.264 .mov, or ProRes, etc.
I've been testing this in different ways, but for the most part, as soon as I drop a 720p clip into a sequence (doesn't matter what format or res), and allow PPro to change the sequence settings to match the clip settings, I get video preview playback initially. Great! But here's the kicker, as soon as I do anything, be that I go to a different sequence that is open, click on a different window such as the source monitor, or adjust audio levels, or drop in another clip (like a custom leader I made that is ProRes 422), I immediately lose video preview. The I/O card is stuck on the last frame it was able to playback, or just black. No matter what I do, I never get the video preview back again.
If I don't allow PPro to change sequence settings to match clip settings, I don't get any playback at all.
I have created a 720p sequence, and dropped in the 720p media, which then I don't get any playback at all. I've tried to keep the video dims the same, but change the video preview dims to 1920x1080 and it won't let me.
This seems to only happen with 720p media being cross converted to 1080p for playback on a 1080p monitor. All 1080p media plays back fine, no matter what the file format is. I have tried both Blackmagic settings in the control panel (System Prefs) set to output 720p to 1080i cross conversion on and off. I still get the same behavior as described above.
    Any ideas is greatly appreciated.

Finally worked out a solution. I opened Premiere, started a dummy project, and before I imported any media, I went into Project Settings and changed the Renderer to Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration (CUDA). Voila - now everything works as it's supposed to. Playback is buttery-smooth, and GPU-accelerated transitions render in real-time.

  • Having trouble disabling video previews

I have Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 and 1.5.  I recently upgraded to Windows 7 from Windows Vista.  While on Vista I only had 1.5 running on my computer.  Since upgrading to Win7, I noticed that when I upload a video file into the timeline, I am forced to render a video preview file.  I don't remember how to disable this so that I can go back to realtime editing.  I am also having the same issue with Premiere CS4.  Does anyone know how to disable preview renders in both of these versions of Premiere?

I have been using the proper file formats.  Problem is I didn't have this issue before in which I would get a red line on my timeline that force me to render my project everytime I added a new scene.  Only times I've ever had to render are through the use of transitons and filters.  I'm not doing anything differently than I have before.

  • Video preview skipping/freezing after a few seconds

    Hi All,
I am a new user of Premiere Pro and am having an anoying issue with video stuttering/skipping in the preview windows when editing.
I am trying to edit GoPro footage shot from a Hero 3 Black in 1080p 60fps. The video preview is at 1/2 res and it will play smoothly for about 3 seconds, then start skipping. If I pause the preview for a few seconds and restart, it catches up and plays smooth for 3 more seconds or so, then skips again.
I have tried to convert the raw gopro footage to a premier preset (MPEG-2) using brosoft video converter and have the same problem.
I thought it may be due to hardware limitations with my older PC, but I have upgraded the slowest parts of the system with no luck (the rest of the PC is running like lightening now though).
    Here is the current setup:
    OS - Windows 7 Ultimate 64 Bit
    CPU - AMD Phenom X4 9750 - 2.4Ghz Quad core - 64bit - specs: http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/K10/AMD-Phenom%20X4%209750%20-%20HD9750XAJ4BGH%20(HD9750XAGH BOX).html
    Ram - 8.00 GB Dual-Channel DDR2 @ 400MHz
Motherboard - ASUSTeK Computer INC. M2N68-VM (AM2) (sata II, not sata III compatable)
    Graphics - 1535MB GeForce GTX 580 (EVGA)
    HDs -
New 256GB Samsung MZ-7PD256 840 Pro Series Solid State Drive (SATA) - System drive
932GB Western Digital WDC WD10EADS-00M2B0 ATA Device (SATA) - Video storage
1863GB Western Digital WDC WD20EARX-00PASB0 ATA Device (SATA) - General storage
Is there anything else I should be trying here or is this just a limitation of HD video??? Surely I should be able to preview what I am trying to edit without pausing the footage every 3 seconds? =(.

I have a few other things running at the same time, but I disable network, Antivirus, Media Server apps etc etc (anything thats hungry).
When play skipps I see RAM at about 50-60% useage, CPU below 50 % on all 4 cores. I have notised that the HDD spikes up to 100% at times but then drops off. I have tried running everything off my SSD and seems to make no difference.
When I render a clip, it play perfectly....so seems to just be the preview of the GoPro clips thats causing issues. I will have a play with converting the footage to something smaller/lower quallity, but that defeats the purpose of shooting HD footage.
Another thing I have been notising is that the rendered final clip is rather blury/has some issues with fast moving footage. Any ideas?
