Rendering "watermark" taking a lot longer

For the past three years I've been editing a 27 minute TV show (that's now also on the web) as part of my job. For some strange reason, this season (which started last month) is taking a lot longer to render. Nothing much has changed. The show is all imported from one source (I just fine tune it, throw on some titles and transitions, etc). But all of a sudden what used to take under a half hour to render is now taking three or more times that (and a lot of the time it starts off telling me it will take 6 hours or more).
I have ruled out the titles, as if I do a render of only them (and transitions) it takes 15-25 minutes. Which leaves the 'watermark' graphic...and when I render that it does indeed take over an hour.
I initially thought it might be because I replaced the graphic with a larger image which I was then scaling down in FCP (I accidently deleted the one I used in previous seasons). But this week when I scaled it down to the exact dimensions in Photoshop, it still is taking over an hour.
Any ideas?

Equipment is all the same. But did upgrade to FCS2 over the summer (forgot to mention that). Other than that, nothing has change. The motion titles are the same, the footage is shot on same camera, edited on same device and transferred into the computer using the same player and cables into the same hard drive.
Don't know if FCP changed over the summer and there's now a setting that needs to be tweaked (or if it now takes longer because the upgrade is working on a non-intel PowerMac)

Starting regular apps like google chrome is taking a lot longer. Why is this happening?

    Hey judybh,
Thanks for the question. After reviewing your post, it sounds like apps are slow to load or the Mac itself is slow. There are a number of potential causes that you can check by following this article.

  • Background rendering randomly taking much much longer

    Hi,
I'm running 10.0.3 on 10.6.8...I don't want to update to 10.0.5 yet because for work I have to stay on 10.6.8.  The problem I'm having started randomly during my most recent project.
The time it took to background render the effects and text went from taking a normal amount of time (minutes) to multiple hours.  I have NO idea why.  The video is about 5 minutes in length.  I have a keyer effect going on in most of the video and text.  That's it.  I've left it to render for multiple hours for a couple of days (last night for 4 hours) and it never even finishes the job.
I tried putting text in another project file and the render didn't take as long.  So its something that has to do with this project.  Do I have to reassemble the whole project?
Also, I'm on a 2.3GHZ Intel i5 with 4gb ram.  I never had this problem with the rendering taking this long before this last project.  Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Also, I tried restarting the program and my computer.  Also, deleted the preferences files in the library folder.  None of that helped.

  • Taking a lot longer to hook up iDisk with this latest update

Every time I restart, it takes an awful long time for iDisk to show on my desktop, and while I wait for it to come up, if I do anything with the Finder, such as open the hard disk or try to access any of the menus, I get the spinning beach ball of death -
so I go to Force Quit to see if I can clear the hang up, and every time, without fail, the Finder is the one not responding and I have to restart the finder.
I still have to wait for the iDisk to be found, and then I can finally do stuff.
I never had this problem before the latest software update and battery update. I know I've got enough RAM, I don't use anything memory intensive and I am quite diligent about not having too many Apps running - I never have more than 3 at the same time, and they're usually little Apps, I certainly don't have anything like Photoshop or Word or Excel or iMovie or DVD Player or such running at the same time.
Why is it taking so long now to get the iDisk to show? I feel like I took a step back in the computer's speed lately.
Any thoughts? I've run the usual stuff, Onyx, restarted a few times, checked my Prefs, but it's the Finder, so I'm stumped. It can't be the memory!
    Help.

Not enough free space on the startup disk can cause the issues you are referring to.
Control click the MacintoshHD icon on your desktop then click Get Info.
    You'll see:  Capacity & Available
Make sure there's at least 15% free disk space.
If it's not a disk space issue, verify the disk for errors.
Launch Disk Utility located in HD > Applications > Utilities
Select the startup disk on the left then select the First Aid tab.
Click:  Verify Disk  (not Verify Disk Permissions)
If Disk Utility reports problems, you will need to insert your install disc to make repairs.
And if you have not done so lately, backup all your important data just in case.

  • Report taking a lot longer to run in Live environment

    Hi,
I have created a report in Discoverer Plus and in the Test environment this report takes approx 5-10secs to run.
I have exported the report using Discoverer administrator and imported it into the Live environment.
When I go to run this report in Live it is taking considerably longer to run, it is taking over 45 minutes.
Has anyone experienced this issue before and how did you manage to fix it?
    Many Thanks
    Martin

I dont think I have seen that poor of performance arise but one of my reports double in time and it turned out
    1) There was an INDEX missing in my production system
    2) Statistics needed to be ran on a couple of the tables
The worst slow down I saw was when the DBA's had brought up my TEST system. All reports were running slower than their DEVL counter parts but this dealt with an .init setting the DBA's forgot to add but I cannot envision that being the case for you on your LIVE system.
    Hope this helps.

  • Simple select query is taking a lot of time

    hi gems...
    my table has 7267563 rows...and i am doing a simple select * from table;
but it is taking a lot of time nearly 25minutes but not completed...
when i did select count(1) from table then it gave the result instantly also select * from table where rownum < 10 is also fine...even when i am selecting all the records using rownum i.e. select * from table where rownum < 7267563 is also giving result instantly...
but the entire table is not getting result i.e. select * from table...also there is no lock in the table(though i know that select is nothing to do with lock)..
what may be the issue..please suggest...thanks in advance...

  • Generic Extraction : Taking a lot of time

    HI Experts
I have created ZKONV a generic extracter which is a copy of KONV table. It has around 16,00,000 records .When I´m pulling the data in to ODS it is taking a lot of time. it is taking around 5+ hours to load the data. Is there anything wrong with my Datasource why it is taking so much of time.
    Kindly provide some inputs
    Thanks
    NLN

    Hi Lakshminarayana
You got to check couple of things.
First goto the source system and see, how long the extract program is running. The long time may be due to poor source system performance or huge processing at the BW system side. If the job in the source system is running for a long time, then check the source system resource. Build proper index on the mentioned table and see whether it has improved the performance. You can ask the basis people for the SQL trace and they let u know what kindof indexes u can build on the tables.
If the processing is taking more time, then u have to imrpove the start/update routine in the BW side. Please let us know, where exactly u have the problem. Then we can think of resolving it.

It's because the PowerMac G5 had HUGE bandwidth with a fat BUS on each processsor so they could run hard, hot and heavy.
It's not so with the Intel processors which are multi-core and share a common bus thus bottleneck.
The newer Intel processors can do more work on the CPU, but when it comes to in/out they are s-l-o-w.
I've had a wickedly fast dual processor (not dual core) G5, RAID 0 pair of 10,000 RPM drives as boot and a fast video card, I could do a lot very very fast.
You'll likely have to upgrade to Final Cut X to get more cores utilized, prepare to cry a little bit, Apple is working on the features they stripped out of it to make amends to pro users who complained loudly. (all over TV too)

  • HT1414 iPhone restore is taking a very long time

I was prompted to restore my iPhone  on iTunes... It's taking a very long time, is this normal?

If you are restoring from a backup and you had lots of photos inside the camera roll, it might take longer to restore.
If you are using iTunes on your computer and setting it back to factory settings, without using a backup, it should not take that long if the software had already been downloaded to your computer.

  • Messages are taking a very long time to send.

Hello, I'm currently having a big problem with messages taking a very long time to actually send. The spinning wheel will stay there for hours. It only happens in one or two skype groups at a time where I can send messages normally in other groups. Does anyone have any idea how I can fix this?

I have been having this problem for the last 4 releases. I have had some take up to 8 hours to send before. I can usually fix it by signing out then restarting skype. Just restarting skype doesn't work, nor does just signing in again.

  • I just got an iPhone 5 32GB and i have backed up my old 3GS 32GB via itunes (20GB of data on there) and it is taking a very long time to restore to my iPhone5. Its taken more than 20 hours and says 12 hours remaining. The text "Time remaining" flickers.

The text "Time remaining ... hours" flickers.
I set it to start restoring from the 3GS backup yesterday at 1pm and the time remaining kept on increasing. I left it overnight and at 9am this morning the progress bar hadnt moved and it said 12 hours remaining.
I don't know why its taking so long. I unplugged it and it just set up as new phone. So i did a factory reset and tried again at 4pm and it is now 12am and it says 4 hours remaining and my computer occasionally flickers. (Its not a bad computer, 2 months old, i7, 6GB RAM, Heaps of HDD space). It also messes with google chrome and i cannot browse the web at all while it is trying to restore my iphone.
I have tried restarting my laptop and should i reinstall itunes? I simply dont see why it should take longer than 20 hours to copy over 20GB of data!
    Can anyone help me?
    Thank you

I'm having this EXACT same problem with my iPhone 4, and I have the same computer stats (I have a Samsung Series 7)

If you want to be able to access your entire music library from iCloud, you'll have to subscribe to iTunes Match (http://www.apple.com/itunes/itunes-match/).  Music purchased from the iTunes store is already in iCloud as it can be redownloaded at any time (see http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519).
