RenderKitId and ViewHandler in JSF1.2

I've been reading the JSF 1.2 spec, and I am a bit confused about how the ViewHandler interacts with the view's renderKitId.
From the JSF 1.2 Final Draft (May 2006), Section 9.4.20 (f:view) indicates that the renderKitId attribute is set in this order:
1) user supplied value
2) Application.getDefaultRenderKitId if not null
3) RenderKitFactory.HTML_BASIC_RENDER_KIT
Section 7.5.1 (View Handler) indicates that the ViewHandler .createView calls .calculateRenderKitId "to find out which renderKitId should be used for rendering the view."
Section 2.4.2.2 (Configure the Desired RenderKit) indicates "the default ViewHandler must call calculateRenderKitId() on itself and set the result into the UIViewRoot's renderKitId property."
Does this mean that it is the responsibility of the default ViewHandler .calculateRenderKitId method to follow the steps described in section 9.4.20 for determining the renderKitId to put on the UIViewRoot?
I'm trying to figure this out because I want to know how a custom ViewHandler should act.
I created a ViewHandler implementation for JSF 1.1_01 which delegated everything except .calculateRenderKitId. In .calculateRenderKitId, I determine the type of device that is connecting. If it is a "telnet device" (actually a server sitting between the telnet emulator and the application), I return the renderKitId for a telnet RenderKit. Otherwise, I would delegate (which, in the default case, the default-render-kit-id in faces.config.xml would be used).
I'm trying to figure out how similar functionality would work with JSF 1.2. Ideally, a user-supplied value for the f:view renderKitId should be used if present. Only if it is not present should I check for the telnet device, and, if not, then delegate.
But if my understanding of the JSF 1.2 spec is correct, I would be "interjecting" myself in the middle of the standard processing.

Some people have indicated that they have had success making custom component out of existing components by using a delegation strategy for rendering, decodes, etc.
Alternatively you might need to override the state saving and restore methods to overcome your problems with your existing code.
Another possibility is to use a page fragment, if you are using Facelets or another templating library which supports it.

  • JSF 1.0 and Portlet API

    Does JSF and Portlet API works together?
    Can we use JSF 1.0 for portlet JSP development?

    JSF 1.0 does include a number of changes specifically to support writing portlets with the JSR 168 API. We didn't quite have time to get that support in "out-of-the-box", but we did make JSF sufficiently configurable that one could add JSR 168 support simply by dropping in a bonus JAR! (If memory serves, that JAR needed to apply decorators to FacesContextFactory and ViewHandler, but my memory is a bit foggy at the moment.)

  • SAP WCEM Salestransactions Item Extension.

    Hi
    I'm trying to get Custom field into Checkout Page of SalesOrder.  I've done necessary implementation by extending ItemBeanImpl and Viewhandler classes.  I've also implemented BAdi in the back end to send data to Web-shop.  I've also updated the UI-Repository & factory-config xml.  Inspite of all these the data is not coming to front end.  It is displaying a message 500 internal server error in the output text.
    Can anybody help me out finding a solution for it?
    Regards
    Karteek

    Hi Karteek
    Like what Denis, you would have to check the log in the NWA of your runtime system. I hope you will be able to get there. Check under Developer Traces and you should be able to pick up what the issue is.
    If you cannot figure out what is wrong, please provide details of the log so we can be able to help .
    As an alternative to the solution, you can use extension fields/data and provide the necessary extensions and implement the BADI in your backend system to provide the necessary data. I have done this only in the scenario where you are using the backend cart rather than the java cart.

  • How to create a view(Component Tree)?

    After I look at the source codes of the RestoreViewPhase.java and ViewHandler,I find that "createView" only to get an instance of the UIViewRoot class,and not add any children at all.So I want to know how JSF can get the component Tree from the "createView" method?

    In fact if the first time a page is accessed, the component tree is only complete AFTER the render response. I must agree that this is lousy. In fact Smile supports a non-JSP model where the component tree is constructed at createView() time. Which allows you to do some initialisation for your new page/screen.
    In the JSP model you have to go through managed beans or setup context upfront, which you don't want because you want the init code for a screen be coded together with that screen.
    In fact I'm still looking for a way to stick with the spirit of the specs, but have a common way to have some 'event handler' that allows you to setup some context when a new screen is accessed.

  • JSF Datatable - Any difference with JSF1.1 and JSF 1.2

    In my project there are lot of Datatables, which retrieve data from the database and display it to the user. For each datatable, the columns are not fixed. I want to create some kind of component that can be reusable.
    It is basically a JSF portlet. Now i have to use RAD 6. RAD 6 supports only JSF1.1. I have to migrate this to RAD7 in the near future. Are there any differences between the Datatable in JSF 1.1 and JSF 1.2?
    I had this approach in mind.
    a) Create the datatable programmatically and put the contents to panelgrid. This way the jsp code will be minimized. Is it a good option.? Are the APIs same in both the versions?
    b) Is it possible to create a custom datatable which can take some key as input. Then based on the key the datatable can be populated with as many columns as desired.
    Please let me know if there are any other good options.

    As there is no answer to this thread I want to share the solution with others.
    In my case the problem gone after removing el-api.jar from the WEB-INF/lib directory of my webapp. Tomcat 6 already contains the el-api.jar in the lib directory.
    Also I do not know if it is the solusion for the JSF 1.2.

    On some servers it is. Maybe it does not help in your case, but an example configuration looks as:
    <faces-config xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee/web-facesconfig_1_2.xsd" version="1.2">
        <application>
            <message-bundle>userinterface.resources.messagebundle</message-bundle>
            <locale-config>
                <supported-locale>en</supported-locale>
                <supported-locale>nl</supported-locale>
            </locale-config>
            <view-handler>org.ajax4jsf.application.AjaxViewHandler</view-handler>
        </application>
    </faces-config>in the web.xml you have to configure the org.ajax4jsf.VIEW_HANDLERS property in you want to use facelets
    <context-param>
            <param-name>org.ajax4jsf.VIEW_HANDLERS</param-name>
            <param-value>com.sun.facelets.FaceletViewHandler</param-value>
    </context-param>

  • OutputLabel and line breaks doesn't work - Is there a hack for JSF1.2?

    Hello,
    I use JSF 1.2 and Facelets to generate a form automatically. This works so far well. But if I have a label with line breaks, JSF does not convert the line breaks into
     tags. Is there a hack to convert line breaks into
     tags?
    A little example
    Code:
    <h:outputLabel value="#{component.label}" for="#{component.id}" />
    <h:inputText value="#{component.value}" id="#{component.id}" />component.label = First Line\nSecond Line
    component.value = "UserInput"
    This is rendered to:
    First Line Second Line      [UserInput]
    Instead of:
    First Line        [UserInput]
    Second Line One possible solution is to disable escape. But this is a bad solution because there are umlauts and angle brackets (<,>) in some texts for my labels. Does anyone know a better solution?
    Regards
    Martin

    Hi Raymond,
    thanks for your tip. It is a very good idea. But while testing I have found a little problem. with "pre". JSF renders labels like this:
    <label> <---- notice this line break
    Text</label>All labels start with a line break in the HTML code. So all labels start with a line break in the browser too if I use CSS with the "pre" option :(

  • JSF1.2 and validation

    Hi,
    I am a newbie to JSF, but I noticed (based on the book I am going though) that validation and validation messages are much better handled in 1.2, in comparison to 1.1. For example, you now get:
         Amount: Validation Error: Value is required.
    Instead of simply just an error. Assuming, of course, you set up a label. However, when I attach my own validation function, this does not happen. This leads me to the conclusion that either my validation classes need to do something before I can access this functionality or the common validation functions/convertors are poorly designed and are concatenating the label/field name. So my question is how do I get the message to print the label for my validation function?
    Thanks.

    Not too sure I want to override every possible error message that can come from the standard validators. What I want is a little explanation. What decides that the message is going to stick a label into the validation message. If it is the validator/convertor then, in my opinion, this is bad design. This is something that the message or messages component should do, not the convertor/validator.
    In fact, that is what I want to do. By what you are suggesting, it seems the only way is to override that message so it does not put the field name in is to override the messages.

  • Resetting the JSF Portlet State in weblogic portal 10.3 and JSF1.2

    Hi ,
    I have a Registration JSF Portlet. It has two pages, “Registration home Page" and " Registration confirm Page". After I,enter the Registration details on " Registration home Page" and click submit, I will get a " Registration confirm Page". Add this JSF Portlet on a page in weblogic portal 10.3. Now visit some other page and comeback to the page on which I added the JSF Portlet, I will see that it is showing " Registration confirm Page", i.e the state is retained.
    My problem is... I want to see " Registration home Page " everytime you visit the page. how can be achieved in weblogic portal 10.3.
    Can any one help me out with this problem ..
    Thanks,
    Ram

    My approach was to programmatically redirect to the page again with _nfpb=false. I do this in the handlePostbackData() method in the portlet's backing file.
    redirectUrl = redirectUrl.replaceAll("_nfpb=true", "_nfpb=false");
    PortletBackingContext.getPortletBackingContext(request).sendRedirect(redirectUrl);

  • Replacement for validator and valueChangeListener attributes in JSF1.2

    Is there a replacement for these now deprecated attributes (in JSF 1.2 according to the proposed final draft). Or is the onlyl solution to use i.e. the f:validate tag and implement the Validator Interface. In this case Validation Methods inside Beansn are gone... right? Why?

    Hello,
    You can tell to JSF that you fields are required only if the submit button was responsible for submiting the form :
    <h:form id="rmName">
    <h:selectOneMenu value="#{mybean.selectedCountry}" valueChangeListener="#{mybean.countryVLC}"
    onchange="this.form.submit();" >
    <f:selectItem itemName="select" itemValue=""/>
    <f:selectItems value="#{mybean.countriesMap}"/>
    </h:selectOneMenu>
    <h:inputText required=”#{!empty param[‘frmName:btnSave’]}” binding="#{mybean.mobileNo}"></h:inputText>
    <h:commandButton id="btnSave" value="btnSave"></h:commandButton>
    </h:form>

  • JSF Navigation issue with Webcenter OC4J and Open Portal JSF Bridge

    Hi All,
    I was wondering if anybody had experienced the same issue as per below:
    I have a problem using the Open Portal JSF Portlet Bridge within a oracle webcenter OC4J. I have a trivial application with 2 jsps. The first has a single button, which when pushed navigates to the second screen.
    This app works fine as a stand alone web app and also via the Oracle Faces Bridge using the OC4J. However, when I deploy using the jsfportletbridge 1.1.4 (I'm using the JSF 1.1) - it will not navigate from the first page. It simply refreshes the first page when clicked.
    It looks like there is a problem with navigation. I have traced out the application (which I will include in full below), however the entries which looked relevant were (this occured after the first page was rendered):
    07/06/05 23:49:19 [DEBUG] StateManagerImpl - Begin restoring view in session for viewId /hello.jsp
    07/06/05 23:49:19 [DEBUG] StateManagerImpl - Session Available, but View State does not exist for viewId: /hello.jsp
    07/06/05 23:49:19 [TRACE] LifecycleImpl - Creating new view '/hello.jsp'
    My gut feel is that state is not being retained between requests, so it is just recreating the same view, however I'm at a loss to explain why

    I'm missing some things in your portlet.xml deployment descriptor.
    It looks like your application doesn't make use of a JSF binding layer, so it should be enough to initialize a Faces lifecycle listener like this:
    <init-param>
    <name>DefaultPage.view</name>
    <value>/index.jspx</value>
    </init-param>
    <init-param>
    <name>BridgeLifecycleListeners</name>
    <value>
    oracle.portlet.server.bridges.jsf.adf.ADFFacesBridgeLifecycleListener
    </value>
    </init-param>
    The DefaultPage.view parameter specifies the default page of the application to use as the View mode for the portlet. Its location is relative to the web-app-context-root and always start with a /.
    The BridgeLifecycleListeners parameter specifies the filter classes to use. You must ensure that your portlet.xml file is configured to match the filters specified in your web.xml file. If you do not have the proper classes defined in portlet.xml, then you will receive a missing class error. You specify the classes in the BridgeLifecycleListeners init-param in your portlet.xml file:
    <init-param>
    <name>BridgeLifecycleListeners</name>
    <value>listener_class_n[,listener_class_n+1,...]</value>
    </init-param>
    For example, suppose that your application includes AdfFacesFilter filter in its web.xml:
    <filter>
    <filter-name>adfFaces</filter-name>
    <filter-class>oracle.adf.view.faces.webapp.AdfFacesFilter</filter-class>
    </filter>
    You would then need to include the following class in your portlet.xml:
    <init-param>
    <name>BridgeLifecycleListeners</name>
    <value>oracle.portlet.server.bridges.jsf.adf.ADFFacesBridgeLifecycleListener
    </value>
    </init-param>
    Similarly, suppose that ADFBindingFilter filter is defined in web.xml as follows:
    <filter>
    <filter-name>adfBindings</filter-name>
    <filter-class>oracle.adf.model.servlet.ADFBindingFilter</filter-class>
    </filter>
    You would then need to include the following in your portlet.xml:
    <init-param>
    <name>BridgeLifecycleListeners</name>
    <value>oracle.portlet.server.bridges.jsf.adf.ADFFacesBridgeLifecycleListener,
    oracle.portlet.server.bridges.jsf.adf.BindingFacesBridgeLifecycleListener
    </value>
    </init-param>
