Renders Extremely Slowly!

I'm just purchased a brand new macbook to do video editing on. I have just started my movie and the rendering is sooo slow! I movie works fine! Why is Express running so slowly?

Well, your internal HD is too slow for video and if it's more than 50% full that will affect performance too; and if it's over ~80% full you'll start encountering system problems. Your system uses disk space all the time while running, including rendering, so that does affect your render time. I'd get a good quality external FireWire HD (7200rpm, 8MB or 16MB cache) and reset FCE scratch settings to use the external drive for render files instead of the internal HD.
Also, how much RAM do you have in your MacBook - that also has a direct impact on rendering time. More is better.

  • .avi files rendering extremely slowly

My version is Adobe Premiere Pro CS3.
I have approximately 40 minutes worth of .avi video clips that I am stringing together, however I go to render/export, and it tells me it's going to take 23 hours and 30 minutes!  I had a video I edited previously as well that was roughly 30 seconds long that took me about 20 minutes to render, but I just waited for that to finish.  Why are my videos taking so long to render when I had never had this problem previously?
Any input will help, thank you!

You are a music conductor, with a baton that you use to point to various parts of the orchestra... this is like Windows pointing to various parts of the hard drive to do Windows housekeeping or to load program segments for various functions
Now, at the same time and with the same hand... while still using the baton to conduct the orchestra... pick up a bow and play a fiddle... this would be doing something with your video file at the same time as all the other work
You as a person cannot do both at the same time with the same hand
A computer is a LITTLE better, in that it can switch from one kind of task to another very quickly... but not quickly enough for EASY video editing
You need AT LEAST two hard drives (separate drives, never a partition http://forums.adobe.com/thread/650708?tstart=0 for more) with Windows (or Mac OS) and software on your boot drive, and video files on a 2nd drive so the boot drive is not slowed down by trying to do everything
I find that the three drives I use work very well for me, for editing AVCHD video... some people use a 4th drive, so video INPUT files are on drive three and all OUTPUT files are on drive four... I only bought a mid-tower case instead of a full tower case (my bad... but had to fit in the space available on my office desk!) so I use the three drives that will fit
Depending on your exact hardware (motherboard brand & model AND USB2 enclosure brand & model AND external hard drive brand & model) AND the type of video file, you may... or may NOT... be able to use an external USB2 hard drive for SD (Standard Definition) video editing

i took my macbook to the apple store i bought it from, they checked the memory and hard drive and everything was ok, after a re install of the operating system i still had a problem so apple advised me to back up everything to an external drive the erase everything then reinstall which i've done and am now up and running again, it's like i have a new macbook

  • Macbook Pro 10.6.8 - 4GB started running extremely slowly.

All of a sudden my Macbook Pro 10.6.8 - 4GB started running extremely slowly. I verified the disk and got an OK.  I have plenty of memory. Any clue?

I do need to learn how to use the communities...sorry. First time.
I do have lots of free disk space though.
The problem seems to be solved, after a whole day searching for help on the net.
I read somewhere to check my Console.app for repeated information. Then I saw my Mackeeper antivirus was sending the same message every 5 seconds for the last 15 hours. Thousands and thousands of the same message. I turned off the Real-time Protection, restarted the computer and all is fine. Just can't believe it.
Where I live it is kind of hard to get assistance.
    Tks for your help.

  • 2012 MacBook Pro running extremely slowly with constant color wheel

I have a 2012 MacBrook Pro and yesterday it randomly began to function extremely slowly and has almost a constant color wheel. This does not just happen when on the internet, but happens with any function of my computer. Even the typing is lagging.
The following information might be helpful in attempting to find a solution:
-All of my updates are up to date
-I have tried turning off my computer and restarting it a few times, including trying it in SafeMode and there was no difference.
-My computer has never done this before.
-I did not have an abnormal amount of activity happening on my computer when it began to function extremely slowly.
Anyone have any ideas of what could be happening and how I can fix this?
    Thank you!

Are these typical problems that happen when there are problems with a startup drive or another hardware component?
    Yes.
When the slowdown is especially bad, note the exact time: hour, minute, second.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Scroll back to the time you noted above.
Select the messages entered from then until the end of the episode, or until they start to repeat, whichever comes first.
Copy the messages to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

  • Podcasts downloading extremely slowly

I'm an avid podcast listener and have never had any trouble in the past. But, this week all of my podcasts are downloading extremely slowly. They all have been taking 1-6 hours to download, when I'm used to times around 1-5 minutes. My internet connection is still fast and works as expected for everything else. I am also able to download podcasts from their websites/RSS feeds at the usual 1-5 minute rate, so this seems to be exclusively an itunes problem.

Assuming that you mean slower than usual, there can be several reasons why that can happen:
The internet is slow because it's Friday night and everyone's on it.
There is a special event on the internet, so more people than usual are using it.
Your internet connection is slow because of poor weather. (My internet fails if we have heavy rain!)
Other people in your house are using the internet connection at the same time as you and sharing one connection. The more people using it, the smaller (slower) each share.
You have an insecure internet connection and all your neighbours are using your connection.
The Podcaster's server (where the Podcast is stored) is slow.
The Podcaster's server is overloaded by requests for the popular Podcast.
Your ISP is throttling your connection speed
You could use a speedchecker to test your connection. Remember to ask everyone else to stay offline while you test.

  • Mac is running EXTREMELY slowly

Hello everyone! I'm new to Macs, and I've been quite satisfied with mine. However, I've run into quite the odd issue. Recently (as of a few months) my Mac has started to run extremely slowly. I've done everything on the Internet until I got massively ****** off and formatted it - this seemed to fix it. That time I thought it was a full HD, as it was indeed quite full and I had several large files. However, as of yesterday, it started getting massively slow AGAIN. This time it was not a full HD as I had only 60gb occupied and +200gb free. Again quite ****** off I am formatting it again - in fact I'm posting this from the iPhone as it formats right now.
Now this isn't an old Mac - I bought it in 2009 - and I don't think I do anyhing outrageous with it, really, so I'd really like to know what possibly may be happening. Usually when the "snail mode" begins to happen no force seems able to fix it. Repair permissions shows me several wrong permissions but doesn't seem to actually repair them. Cleaning up uselessness with OnyX doesn't seem to solve anything. When it starts to get truly slow nothing short of shutting down and leaving it that way seems to work - and the next day it seems better, just to get slow again. It doesn't seem to be hardware, as formatting sort of worked previously. Even the gray screen when you turn it on and the login screen get slow - even typing the password. This is quite annoying indeed.
In the last format I moved my iTunes folder to my external HD (which I keep connected; it's a 1TB Samsung formatted to NTSF, and which I used a 3rd party plugin thingy to format and access). Everything other than apps I keep there. The only reasonably heavy apps I had a game (The Sims 3 + all expansion packs) and Photoshop, which I rarely use. This time the slow down began after Sims 3 started crashing so badly I had to forcibly shutdown everything. This happened a few times. I'd understand if the game was slow, but could it have caused such a massive system breakdown?
My machine is an iMac running Leopard (completely updated). It's 20'', Core 2 Duo, with 2gb RAM. I'll be eternally grateful if someone can help me fix these issues for good.
    Many thanks from Brazil!

     > System Preferences > Account > Log-In Items > Remove your login items
Also check your Activity Monitor > to see what is running as-well.
Also based on what you wrote before try repairing the disk.
Put in the system disks and boot to them. Repair the disk from there.
Also check out some HDD scanning software, check your HDD for "bad blocks" the SMART scan doesn't usually catch them
    I hope this helps!
    GL!

  • After donwload and install firefox 5 it has become extremly slowly; Can I downgrade to 3.6?

I have just download and installed firefox 5 and th PC is extremly slowly. I happened the same with firefox 4 and I had to downgrade to 3.6. How can I do it again? Because it´s impossible to work with this version...

Without knowing what's causing it, and therefore what options you have, I can't advise whether it's your 'best' option.
Have you investigated whether it's an add-on or a plug-in - particularly Flash? Have you tried safe-mode? Have you tried anything?

  • HT201366 Security Update 2013-003 keeps failing to install - 'Unexpected Error occurred' - and now my MacBook Pro is running extremely slowly?

I have repeatedly tried to update the software 'Security Update 2013-003' on my MacBook Pro OS X Version 10.7.5 but it keeps failing to install, stating that 'an Unexpected Error Occurred'.
Since the update failed the first time, my MacBook Pro has been running extremely slowly and failing to open basic apps like Mail and Safari at times.
All other updates have been successful apart from this one. I have made sure that my MacBook isn't full (emptied Trash etc) but it still runs really slowly at times so I think it's linked with the Security Update failure.
    Please help!
*I have tried installing the update from Support Downloads but it says there isn't space on Macintosh to install it. There is 190 GB of free space on that disk so I don't understand that at all.

I have tried and it downloads successfully but when I install it, it comes up with this:

  • Extremely slowly synchronization

    Hello,
I’m using a SYMBOL mobile device with CrEme and MI Client installed on it. I can log in and it works very well.
My problem occurs if I’m starting synchronization. It lasts extremely slowly. About ONE HOUR or more.
Does somebody know what is the problem?
    Best regards,
    Marita

Yes I have seen the same thing happen.
Although the Sync is faster when data is uploaded to Mobile Device (Symbol in our case), Once all the documents are created it can take upto 1 HOUR to complete sync download to server.
    ME 2.1
    MAM 2.5
    Patch 04
    AS 6.2
Just 1 more question, although it takes you 1 hours to complete, Does it fail ofter?
Does it stop in the middle of sync and give you error log, which requires syncing again (2nd attempt) to complete the Sync?
Are you using any new/custom settings in MobileEngine.config file?
    Thanks

  • Firefox loads page at first start extremely slowly & while using suddenly loses its connection ability! How can I fix this?

I'm using Firefox 4.0 I did all the updates I could, I didn't change anything except the history preferences and from advanced -> network
    Whats happening:
I'm starting firefox, first time or second time I start doesn't matter, it brings every single page extremely slowly (google,facebook,mozilla.com etc)
after a while it loads the page, and after a little more while suddenly it loses connection and returns to first position
    bringing pages extremely slowly
It's not about my internet connection, I have a good one and other applications using internet are working perfectly (including IE)

Thanks for responding, David. Using <Esc> and <CtrlW> might reduce the time in returning to the other tab, but does little when the triggering of a wanton alarm is very frequent. The connections I have used were extremely reliable and fast. I am using at this moment a 54 Mbps WiFi connection that lives up to its ratings in downloading & uploading data; yet, as shown in the attached image, I still get this worthless alarm. I do not know if this problem happens with my regular ISP since I have been using this tiny notebook only when traveling -- will test that once I am back mostly for curiosity, but even then if then the alarm were not triggered this would be of little consolation, since other browsers do not have the problem right now).
As a moderator, I urge you to ask the Mozilla-powers-to-be why there is no way to turn off the alarm with, say, a true/false switch in about:config (mind you, there is still old-versions junk in this config list, so it isn't we are talking about amending the constitution). Complains about this fugly alarm can be traced in the web as far back as 2010 at least. Besides, what is the advantage of the alarm for the average user? When FF users are still posing amazingly basic questions in forums of Firefox or Mozilla support, such an alarm ought to be _off_ by default and should be an option of advanced settings menu. This annoyance shows how much the critical focus on keeping a simple GUI uncluttered by trivial or higher-level messages still needs to evolve for Firefox, which I have used it since it was known a Firebird. Guess will have to switch to Chrome now while abroad.
    Happy Holidays

My mid-2010 iMac has been running excrutiatingly slowly over the past few months, with the spinning beachball popping up any time I click on anything at all. Thank you for posting the report, my best guess is due to the unnecessary
    com.avast.PacketForwarder (1.3 - SDK 10.8)
    com.avast.AvastFileShield (2.0.0 - SDK 10.8)
that you have installed. Please follow the developers instruction for uninstalling Avast and I'm willing to bet your performance will return. Not only is antivirus software for OS X  unnecessary it takes up valualble system resources, tends to create more problems that it solves and hurt the overall performance. The best solution for keeping your system safe from the extremely small amount of Malware out there is to use a small amount of common sense. First is keep your system up-to-date by running Software Update regularly, do not download anyting that says you MUST download it and avoid illegal torrent sites.

  • Forum pages scrolling extremely slowly

    Hi,
Since a few days, the forum pages are scrolling very, very slowly in Firefox (and a little bit faster in IE, but it's slow anyway). I don't have any problem scrolling pages in other fora or web sites. This only happens when scrolling pages in the Adobe fora.
Any change in the forum software? Any idea?
    Thanks in advance.
