Renditions or Single Folio for Native Android?

I am not sure what the best strategy is for native Android folios. Should I build a single folio at 1280x800 or renditions at 1280x800, 1920x1200, and 2560x1600 as described in Digital Publishing Suite Help | Setting up renditions for native Android viewers?
Do I need three sizes of graphics (as describe in the Android developers docs) if I use the renditions?
Thanks,
Joe

It doesn't matter what size graphics you use. We will resample them to 108ppi for the folio size you pick. 1280x800 is a fine size to use for Android.

  • When can i make a single edition for an android device?

    1:
when can I make a single edition for an android device?
    2:
why can I NOT make a single edition for Android ...
Whe are not able to use the single edition at all in Europe...(why actually??)
No one knows when it will be possible....
And then also what about Android, I do not want to use Apple's hardware, but actually I am forced to do so....I think that that is a big minor for Adobe...
    regards, Anne

The original problem with android was the file size of the app, i think it was limited to 25/50Mb so have a multi-issue app solved that as the full content was downloaded from adobe servers.
That may still be the issue, though I thought the file size had been increased.
You dont have to use a Mac to create you folio's etc, you just need a mac to upload the binary, not Adobe's fault :-) and everyone is in that boat, so not a big minor for adobe then, just you maybe

  • Is "No Single Folio for iphone" a missed opportunity for designers and Adobe?

We have a client that is interested in a single folio app, and others in our agency that would love to sell clients on publishing their free material to both the ipad and the iphone, but the cost of the downloads is too great a hurdle. I have contacted adobe for custom pricing (please contact a rep if you have questions regarding prices) and the cost is still monumental for publishing to this platform for free applications. If an app from DPS where to become popular it could easily cost as much as doing a native app.
Does anyone else think there needs to be an additional pricing tier for things like free catalogs where we are not able to charge for the app? I love the tool-set and would love to be in the middle of this new push for the tablet but my current project is headed back to the interactive group.

Hey Bob, I enjoy your replies, very helpful.
I guess business ethics should be enough to prevent a company from switching, to a paid version later. The threat of a fine, lawsuite, takedown, or really now days - being called out for cheating another company publicly may be enough of a deterrent. And if that's not enough, I would think there would be a technical mechanisium to either track or prevent that switch.
If they charged the same price as they do now for Pro but with a quarter of the Folios (250), and then there were some higher more exspensive teirs I would think they could make the money on the front end rather than the back end. Clients cant budget for an unknown like downloads but they can budget upfront costs.
The point is, if the solution is more afforadable will it be used more? My clients can't justify the unknown costs, therefore I wont be paying Adobe for their Pro service. Doing some searching of the web brings up similar compiants. This is simply my feedback to try to change the system.
    Thanks.

  • HTML Banner for Native Android App Builder

In the release notes it says
The HTML banner in the library has limited available APIs.
I don't even see a place in the app builder to define a banner.
We called Gold Support and they don't know anything about the new Native App Builder.
    Thanks,
    Darrin

I know that with Android the subscriptions are not supported but a header banner (static - no action linked) is important to see!
Client want a branded viewer - now is very poor!
Are there some news about this? Now i'm working with the new native Android app and i see that in the web builder (works very well!) there is not a field to upload a png. V31, V32?

  • Three questions about a single-folio publication

We are finishing our first publication with DPS.
We have a Adobe DPS Professional Edition, Annual version.
1- I have been planning to launch the App in iPad and Android for free and in three days to put the price at $9,00. Is that possible?
2 - How much time needs Apple to approve our appliction?
3- I have read that you can't publish a single folio app in Android. Why?
    What is the option

On android a .apk app is limited to 50 mb. Additional Content up to 4GB can
be loaded by the app on its first start.
This need a change in workflow for the android version on the viewer side.
And it may be political, too.

  • Download fees for a single folio using a professional edition

    Hey guys,
we are releasing a free monthly online magazine in the coming month, at first we considered the single edition option because of its 0$ download fees. the down side was that it wouldn’t allow us to be available in the android market or on the IPhone.
my question is, is it true that i will not be charged for downloads if i only have one folio published using a professional account?
(note that we don’t have a problem un-publishing a previous issue to download a new one.)
another question, is DPS available to purchase from the middle east, if not can i use an offshore account to purchase it.
    Thanks in advance

    HI Bob,
Could you please elaborate on that? From the above, it would read that a professional subscription can publish several single folio apps, without incurring download fees from Adobe. Presumably with the one-off annual fee and, if I understand correctly, without paying multiple Single Edition fees.
    Thanks,
    Simon.

  • I can't create a native android app with 2560x1600 rendition. I only see the 2048x1536 and 1024x768 option in the web native Android application ?

    Hello All,
i ve created a native android app. I need to publish on a 2560x1600 android tab. the problem is that in my library i have my 2048x1536 and 1024x768 ipad version.
I know that when i create my native Android app i should be able to chose my rendition in only 2560x1600 but in the Library Tab of de web android native app builder I only see the 2048x1536 and 1024x768 option.
Please do you have an idea ?
    TX

The dropdown only lists the folio sizes you have published in your app's publication account. Make sure you've actually published a 2560x1600 folio and then you'll be able to select it from the dropdown.

  • Create single .folio file for desktop viewing

    Hi,
I need a bit of help here please. We are currently on issue 2 of our iPad magazine: https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/absolute-photo-magazine/id719597521?mt=8
We are trying to create a version of our app that Advertisers can view on all platforms (iPad & Desktop). What we have done is created a delegate account and from the folio builder panel, we have shared the specific folio with that delegate and emailed the login credentials to certain advertisers. This allows them to view it using Content viewer on an iPad.
I am also trying to export the .folio file in order to send this out to specific people to view using Content Viewer on desktop (PC & MAC). In the example here http://www.e3zine.com/desktopviewer.html there is a single .folio file but when I use the export function within the Publishing Suite it exports a zip file which contains all articles as individual .folio files. Is there any way of exporting this folio as one single .folio file?
    Thanks
    Dean

    Hi,
Thanks for your response. I will try the solution for windows users. However, for Mac desktop users this is supported by DPS as shown in this example:
http://www.e3zine.com/desktopviewer.html where I was able to download a .folio file and preview it in Content Viewer on my iMac. I have been able to export my published folio from the publishing suite into a zip folder on my desktop which contains a series of .folio files that are all viewable within content viewer for desktop. The question is how to create one single .folio file like in the example rather than a series of .folio files?
    Thanks

  • Can i design for all android tablets using one size folio?

I want to minimize my production workflow. Of course. Will a one size design folio work for all android tablets including kendal fire?
    thanks

Yes, you can use one folio size for all Android devices. A 16x9 aspect ratio usually works nicely if you are only interested in Android devices and don't already have an iPad design.
Note that we do not support in-app purchase on Kindle devices.

  • How to prepare folio for Apple pre-approval, but not visible on Android?

Quite possible that i'm just overlooking something, but this doesn't make sense for me. We have already active app in App Store and Google Play, with bunch of issues for sale. Now we need to prepare some special issue, which will go to sale next week or something like this. So i want to prepare in-app purchase for pre-approval. Now we don't have full folio, just dummy one with cover.
Workflow as per publishing guide is:
    - make folio public and retail
    - submit in-app purchase to Apple
    - and wait.
    I did it.
Ok, but what about Android? I even created in-app purchase in google play, set the correct Product ID and set as unpublished, but i still see this dummy folio on Android. I can't buy it, but i see it, and that's not good.
    So how to solve this?
    Thanks for fast help!

Sorry, but you don't understand my problem.
I've created dummy folio for approval. For approval, i need to set folio as public, retail.
on iPad, i DON'T see this dummy folio (because in-app purchase is not approved) and it's correct. On Android, i see it. This should not happen! Customer SHOULD NOT see this dummy folio on Android.

  • I've a Single Folio app with 1526 articles. Its there a maximum number for articles per Folio?

Helo! I've created a Single Folio app with 1526 articles.
It works in the generic Adobe Content Viewer, but does not work on my custom App.
    It shutdowns after splash window.
    Could someone help me?
    Elismar

Changing settings? What part of setting?
My guess is that if you have so many articles, and each article need some particular files in the .folio file, then the Viewer make a mistake trying load all files in the same moment, causing auto shutdown. And, I'm using the iPad 3 to test it.
So, would be fine if someone could give me numbers about the maximum number of articles suggested to put in a Folio Issue.
And yes, I'm publishing the Bible!

  • Native Android and iOS Look & Feel with Flex

Hi. I have recently beena asked to research the use of Flex for development for mobile applications in Android and iOS. What I want to accomplish is the feeling of a native application, both look and feel. Android and iOS are very different in terms of styling components.
Can this be even be done in Flex?
Are my goals too high too achieve with Flex?
Screen shots from Flex, Android, and iOS are below.
    Differences:

    Android
    iOS
    Tabs Location
    Top
    Bottom
    Top Left Button
    'Up'
    'Back'
    Top Left Button Icon
    Application Icon

    Top Right Button
    Multiple
    Single
    List Item Right Carrot

    Adobe Flex Example:
    Native Android Example (Pure Android):
    Native iOS Example:

This is definitely possible, even easy if you jsut have the time to put into it.
All you need is an Android Theme - create custom styles for the buttons ect.
There is a discussion about it here:
    https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/FLEX-33732
And it is an open issue so at some point this will probably get incorporated into the SDK.
