Renew; installing OSX on a PRO running only on Windows XP

Back to the drawing board with my older post (see title). I re-formatted the HDD on another PRO and installed a fresh version of OSX on the drive. It boots without issues on that PRO hence no HDD issues. After putting this HDD in my PRO same problem occurs, it runs perfect on Windows XP (including all features) but wont boot past the Apple logo after boot up on the installed OSX (same with newly installed OSX on external drive and disc). Can it be a hardware issue? If yes how can i check this when the PRO only runs on XP?

On the optical disk(s) that came with your Mac, there is a program called Apple Hardware Test. It is accessed by booting this optical disk while holding the D key (instructions are on the disk).

  • Installing OSX on a PRO running only on Windows XP

This summer I got a MacPro and due to the needs at our institute I had to install Windows. Due to a formatting mistake I only installed XP and updated with bootcamp. Now I want to install OSX (I have legitimate discs) but cant get past the logo after boot up with disc inside. I have reformatted and reinstalled windows a few times but no change. Hope anyone here has some bright idea's.....

1 Boot from the OS X install disc.
2 From the Install menu, select 'Disk Utility'
3 In Disk Utility, click on the drive icon, not the volume icon. The drive icon should have a name something like '500 GB ST500xxxx'; the volume icon should have whatever name you gave the WinXP volume.
4 Select 'Partition' from the tabs on the right.
5 Select 'One Partition' from the pull-down menu. Click on the 'Options' button, select GUID.
6 Repartition your drive. Warning: _This will delete all data currently on the drive_.
7 Select 'Install' from the main menu. You should be back in the installer and can install OS X normally from there.

Have your cake and eat it too!   With the Intel Macs, you can run windows in a virtual machine. You will need our own copy of Windows.
    Don't miss the free VirtualBox.

  • HT5634 Late 2013 Macbook Pro Retina only support Windows 7 (Trying to install 8.1)

I have a 15 inch Macbook Pro Retina (Late 2013) trying to install Windows 8.1 (64-bit) via Boot Camp on USB with an ISO. Upon downloading Windows support software, I'm greeted with a pop-up that says: "This Mac only supports Windows 7, do you want to continue?" However, upon further investigation, according to Apple's website, it says my model is officially supported for Windows 8.1 What's going on here?
    Boot Camp: Version 5.1.2 (481)
    OSX Version: 10.9.2
    Thanks!
    -Sterling

I am new to the community as well but have been an apple genuis for a while.  The way I put windows on my mac (late 2012 pro) last year was I bought windows 7, and used bootcamp to install it.  I would have someone at best buy or a tech store do it for you though. If you dont want to pay $200 for windows 7, you can just buy an app called parallels (also at like a best buy) and use that.  I believe it is around $75 but not sure.  Hope this helps

  • Problems re-installing OSX on macbook pro

    Hi,
My macbook pro (2010 Snow leopard) has been freezing quite a lot and last night froze for 3 hours so I've been trying to re-boot unsuccessfully (majority of times). I've spoke to Apple and they have suggested using the OSX disk that came with the mac to repair utilities but for some stupid reason I'm trying to re-install OSX again and so far it has taken almost 2 hours. It has gone through the first install with the blue progress bar and now the time remaining keeps increasing. I'm afraid to quit it incase I do any damage.
Can I get out of it or should I just let it runs it's course?
    Please help!!
    thanks

The options under apple menu were greyed out so I'm in the process of restarting, I'll see if it will start up in safe mode or try the disk utilities instead of installing the OSX. My main concern was how long it was taking to install and also would it wipe my hard drive once it had installed.
Once again thank you for you patience and help, I'm sure I'll be back if I can't get it going. I have booked an appointment in the Apple store next week because the machine hasn't been running very well for a while now.

  • Can Mac Pro run AHCI under Windows?  No native command queuing?

It seems that Mac Pro runs AHCI under OS X.
Under Windows Vista 32/64 or XP 32/64, some reason AHCI cannot be enabled. It seems to only run legacy IDE mode. Even with modern HD, Mac Pro can not seems to take advantage of AHCI benefits such as hot-plugging and native command queuing. Does Apple thinks that native command queuing is necessary feature under OS X but not under Windows?
Even with installing AHCI driver using F6 during Windows installation, AHCI mode cannot be obtained.
Is there a simple way to enable AHCI mode besides modifying the grub bootloader as some suggested in forum? Or is it not possible until Apple modifies BIOS CSM or allows EFI modification? It seems that Apple wont address this issue with firmware update since Intel Mac Pros have been available for years now.
Any suggestion of enabling AHCI under windows XP / Vista will be welcomed.

HD Tune wont expect to show any change with or without NCQ.
NCQ will show advantage in server environment or heavy multi-tasking environment, not on I/O meter. NCQ may even slow some game playing in some instance.
AHCI adds other stuff like hotswapping or other modern goodies, not just NCQ.
Mac Pro has Intel chip / controller capable of AHCI and RAID (well pseudo Intel Matrix RAID) only if Apple allows us to enble it in EFI.

  • Installing LabVIEW DSC 8.6 Run Time on Windows XP Embedded flash memory

I'm trying to install LabVIEW DSC 8.6 Run Time on an embedded PC running Windows XP Embedded. This has a small local disk (c), so I would like to install DSC Run Time on a secondary flash memory drive (d). The installer tells me that I don't have enough free space on drive c, but I cannot browse to select drive d. What do I need to do to get this installed?
    Thanks,
    Josh

The DSC module can't easily be installed to external flash memory. You'll want to move any extra data onto the flash drive to free up space on the internal memory for installing the DSC module.

  • Install OSX on Macbook Pro 2009

    Hello,
I just bought a used Macbook Pro 17 inch form early 2009. There is Windows 8 installed, but I would like to install the OSX again.
If I start with command + r the book is still starting in Windows8.
I have a iMac from 2007 with Maverick running, and a old Macbook with 10.7.
What is the best way to recover a version of OS X
    Thanks a lot.

The whole point of the retail version of the OS  DVDs was that anyone who's system was capable of running that OS could buy the DVD. They were universal.
As I wrote if it were me I'd want the security of having the DVD. Of course the ideal solution would be to get the original DVD from the seller who was legally required to furnish them.
In any case the OP should do a reformat and clean install of whatever OS is used, especially if it is the clone. I would not want to run off of a clone from a different system in this case, to many unknowns.
As for the legal question I've found discussing that here on ASC is a thankless task which leads no where. Apple is a big company if they have issues with the legality of anything they can look into it. I got no dog in that hunt.
    regards

  • How to remote install osx on MacBook Pro, how to remote install OSX on MacBook Pro

I recently used an application called monolingual on my MacBook Pro and it seems that I have completely erased all apple input files that allow OSX to use the built-in alphabetical keys. I can still type using my iPhone through an application called TeamViewer.
    Any help is greatly appreciated!

Re-install the OS from the original DVD supplied, boot holding down c to force the disc start up.

  • Mac Pro Will only Load windows 7. Cannot get to Mac OS install boot

Ok so I've had this problem going on for sometime now. My Mac Pro will not load Mac OS. When I try the computer shuts down and I have to remove the HD that mac os is installed on. Then the computer will automatically boot into windows and i can reset the bootcamp auto load to windows. I was wondering if anyone here might know how to reset the hardware or firmware so that I can just wipe everything and install mac Os fresh.

The Mac OS drive has a corrupt directory most likely.
If you set the default OS to Mac OS X and pull Windows drive, what happens?
