Renew IP address

I have two desktop computer connected to Ethernet ports on my WRT54G router.  Since I connected the second desktop, I have to renew the IP address on both of my notebook computers when I try to connect to the Internet.
Any ideas why I have to do this and what I have to do the eliminate the need to do this each time I power the computer on?
Thanks,

I figured it out on my own.  I hard-coded the next IP address, e.g. 192.168.1.102 for my notebook computer and it works fine.  Since I have 2 desktops and 2 notebooks on my home network, by hardcoding the IP I eliminate the problem.  Obviously if I take the notebooks away from my home router, I will have to change this, but for now it works fine.

Please help me i've about had it with my wireless adapter.
    Read carefully.
I have a linksys wireless adapter and router. I have 2 xboxes and 2 computers in my house all which use the linksys router.
Both xboxes and the 1 of the computers (laptop) can connect to the wireless router and access the internet.
Except for one the computers (desktop) can't access the internet once connected to the router. (this computer uses a linkstys wireless adapter) The Error message I get is "Limited to no connectivity"
You might think that there is something wrong with my adapter? Well that is hard to beleive because, I was trying out DSL for a month and I still have little bit up subscription time left with them. The point is I can connect to the DSL modem(Built in wifi) and use the internet (It's how i'm on the forums) .
I can't keep using the DSL modem becuase I won't have it for much longer.
Now that readers are aware of the problem I can say what I have done to try to fix it.
I have tried uninstalling and restalled the driver for my my adapter, I have tried restarting my modem and wireless router serveral times.
I went on youtube and found that simply clicking repair will fix this exact error message....And the first time it did...As I began to be on the internet a few hours later I was randomly disconnected. Only to have the same error message of "limited to no connectivity."
I have tried repair thousands of times and now it says "Failed To Renew Ip Address, contact the who manages the network" I'm pretty sure I manage the network....
Please who ever can help you will be so much appreciated.

Click on Start and go to the Control Panel and double click on Network Connections, right click on Wireless Network Connection and click on Properties.
Now on this window, click on the second tab Wireless Network and give a check mark on "Use windows to configure my wireless" and then remove all the network names present in the Preferred Networks Window. Then click on OK...
Right click on the Wireless Network Connection again and click on View Available Wireless Networks and try to re-connect to your network. After connecting to the network check if you are getting the ip address on the computer.

  • AP continuously renewing IP address

    Hi Friends,
I installed 4 new access points in our remote site to register it to the controller in the HQ using flex connect. And configured the distribution switch in the remote site as  dhcp server.
A new vlan was created for this purpose.
Now, the APs are getting the IPs, but they are continuously renewing it, say every 20 - 30 seconds.
The interfaces connected to the APs are stable. No ups and downs..
     What could be the reason.?
     Configs below;
    Ip dhcp pool AP_MGMT
      Network 192.168.77.0 255.255.255.0
      Default-network 192.168.77.100
     option 43 ip 10.1.2.60
    interface fa5/35
      description to AP
      switchport mode trunk
      switchport trunk native vlan 777
      no shutdown

    Hi,
You need to make sure below points and then check.
You can deploy a FlexConnect access point with either a static IP address or a DHCP address. In the case of DHCP, a DHCP
server must be available locally and must be able to provide the IP address for the access point at bootup.
FlexConnect supports up to four fragmented packets or a minimum 500-byte maximum transmission unit (MTU) WAN link.
FlexConnect is supported only on the following access points: Cisco Aironet 1130AG, 1140, 1240, 1250, 1260, AP801, AP802 and Cisco Aironet 600 Series OfficeExtend Access Points.
Round-trip latency must not exceed 300 milliseconds (ms) between the access point and the controller, and CAPWAP control packets must be prioritized over all other traffic. In cases where you cannot achieve the 300 milliseconds round-trip latency, you can configure the access point to perform local authentication.

  • Cannot renew IP address: Linksys or Norton Security problem?

I use a LinkSys BEFW1154 Wireless-B router with two Dell Notebooks. On one notebook, a trial version of Norton Security 2006 popped up a few weeks ago. I uninstalled it, and my connectivity disappeared on that computer only.  Although I see a strong signal on my Verizon network, the computer hangs when trying to renew my IP Address. Verizon techs spent hours trying to resolve this, but we both think that Norton has left traces of the Security suite that are preventing the IP address from being renewed.
Does this sound like a reasonable diagnosis, and if so, what answers does anyone have?

Norton products should never be uninstalled using the standard "Add/Remove" or even the standard Norton "Uninstall" program.  If you use these methods, Norton products tend to leave "traces" behind.  However, usually these "traces" only interfere with installs (or re-installs) of Norton products.
To make sure your Norton product is completely removed, you must use the "Norton Removal Tool" that is posted on the Symantec.com website.  Here is the URL:
    http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039?OpenDocument&seg=hm&lg=en&...
    Hope this helps.

  • Wrr54g won't renew dhcp address.

I've been having many problems with my router lately but most recently my router will no longer renew my DHCP address. I have tried resetting it to factory default settings and all that jazz but it is not working.

    Hi,
After resetting the router back to factory defaults, try to change the LAN IP of your router to 10.10.10.1 then check. If your computer still receives the same 192.168.xx.xx IP, then you might need to check your computer if you have assigned a static IP on it.
If everyone needs to believe in something, I believe I'll have another beer..

  • Have to manually renew IP address

My network is setup for DHCP but for the last few days when I wake my Macbook Pro from sleep mode I have to manually renew the DHCP lease before I can access the Internet again. Does anyone have similar experiences?

You can try the below mentioned settings.
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop). In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1 and press Enter...Leave Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
For Wireless Settings, please do the following : -
    Click on the Wireless tab
    - Here select manual configuration...Wireless Network mode should be mixed...
    - Provide a unique name in the Wireless Network Name (SSID) box in order to differentiate your network from your neighbors network...
    - Set the Radio Band to Standard-20MHz and change the Standard channel to 11-2.462GHz...Wireless SSID broadcast should be Enabled and then click on Save Settings...
Please make a note of Wireless Network Name (SSID) as this is the Network Identifier...
    For Wireless Security : -
Click on the Sub tab under Wireless > Wireless Security...
Change the Wireless security mode to WPA, For Encryption, select TKIP...For Passphrase input your desired WPA Key. For example , MySecretKey , This will serve as your network key whenever you connect to your wireless network. Do NOT give this key to anyone and remember the key.
NOTE : Passphrase should be more that 8 characters...
    Click on Advanced Wireless Settings
Change the Beacon Interval to 75,Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304,Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 and Click on Save Settings...
Now see if you can locate your Wireless Network and attempt to connect...

  • WRT150n SLOW!!! and constantly renewing IP address.

    I have a WRT150n and a Belkin USB Wireless N NIC.
I am having two problems. First it keeps dropping connection and takes forever as it is "Acquiring new IP Address" every few minutes.
And secondly, It is SLOW!!. I have a 6 meg Cable Connection to the Web. I can plug straight into the Cable Modem and get great 6 meg dl speeds, I can plug the WRT150n to the box and get 6 meg speeds (DSL Reports/Speedtest) if I am plugged directly into a port on the router with a network cable (Intel Chipset NIC built into MoBo) but when I am connected wireless I can only get about 500K.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

802.11.n is not a Linksys standard. It is a IEEE standard. It is also a new standard that hasn’t been perfected yet. Most of the 802.11n devices you are buying are 802.11n ready kind of like “Vista Ready” devices. Linksys didn’t invent the standard nor did they invent the technology that is designed to use the standard. Linksys built a router and NIC (as well as other devices) that are able to utilize the standard.
The issue could be your computer entirely. Your motherboard may or may not support a NIC with that high wireless ability.
There is a number of reasons why 802.11b and 802.11g are working better then 802.11n one reasons is because computers and routers will automatically choose the fastest connection available according to ALL software and hardware limitations not just because you bought a new NIC and put it in.

  • Windows XP laptop will not renew IP address

I'm a K-8 Technology coordinator trying to run iBooks and HP laptops through Airport Extreme. The iBooks are able to connect to my wireless network, PC's cannot due to inability to obtain an IP address via DHCP. PC network connection properties set to DHCP. Note that my Airport base stations are NOT acting as DHCP servers themselves; this is being done via a Windows DHCP server / domain controller.
Has anyone else experienced anyting like this? Is this a Windows issue since the macs seem OK with the setup?

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

  • 5Th Gen AE Does Not Assign IP Address in Bridge Mode

I have three AEs in my house...two of which are 4th gen and one is 5th gen, and two of which are set up as bridge (a 4th gen and a 5th gen). The 5th gen does not generate ip addresses reliably...everytime I go to the room where the 5th gen AE is I have to turn off the wifi on my device and turn it back on to get an ip address. This happens 100% of the time. I have tried my MBP, as well as my iPhones (4s and 5.) I also noticed the ip address that is being assigned for the bridges is of totally different denimination. The 4th gen bridge gets an ip of 10.0.1.4 where as the 5th gen gets a 192.168.1.76...the DHCP address range for the main is 10.0.1.2 through 100 and it should be assigned one of those ips. I'm kinda suspecting this is why the bridge is not working properly. I just don't understand why this unit is acting this way. Any input to help solve this mystery will be greatly appreciated. CHEERS:-)

Did resetting to factory help this issue?  I'm having the same problem with my  5th and 3rd gen AE's.  I've added a new router (pfSense) and only need the AE's for access points.  The following is the result on some problem tracking:
Working on my network ip addressing issue.  I shut everything down.  I brought up my internal wired network of  pfSense router, internal switches, appleTv units, printers and a couple of computers.  All Addresses were correctly assigned.  I released/renewed the ip addresses to check if the address assigned would remain correct, and this test passed.
I then connected my cable modem to the internet, which connected with no problem.  I then again tested release/renew of addresses, and this test pasted with no problems.  And I had internet access.
My internal network follows the 10.0.1.xxx address range.  I leave 20-99 open as my dynamic range, and assign my AppleTv, DirecTv, SlingBox, and MacMini server to static addresses via MAC reservation.  All these are functioning correctly.
Final test.  I add my Airport Extreme 5th gen, which is in bridge mode, with no guest network, and the light turns green.  I open up my MacBook, connect via WiFi, and the address is 192.168.100.34, not correct.  I turn WiFi on my MacBook off, then I turn it on,  after three cycles I get a correct ip address.
I confirm via airport utility my settings.  I see nothing to change.  I replace my Airport Extreme 5th gen , with my older Airport Extreme 3rd gen, and I once again get a 192.168.100.22 address which is not correct.  I cycle the WiFi setting in my MacBook and after a few cycles, I get a correct address.
My DHCP server is an older Dell system running the linux based software pfSense.  I made this change after I started getting bad IP addresses from my Airport Extreme 5th gen.  My cable modem is a Zoom 5431J DOCSIS 3.0.  But my first test was verifying the assignment of addresses from pfSense, without the cable modem.
I've powered off both Airport Extremes and have checked the settings.  Not sure what else I might try with these Extreme units.

By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

  • How do i solve the problem with repeated renew lease requests

How can i solve the problem of repeated renew lease requests?

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
You don't say what you are doing or trying to do. See #5 below.
    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netwhttp://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are drooping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

• Reserver IP address via DHCP

I defined a pool of DHCP on IOS software, I want to reserve a IP address to host, I made it, only that doesn't assigned the IP address that I defined in the pool
Help? How I can to do it?
    Example
    ip dhcp pool guestimport all
    network 172.23.12.0 255.255.255.0
    default-router 172.23.12.254
    address 172.23.12.231 hardware-address 0100.14c2.c6ec.42

    Jorge,
First you have to create an IP dhcp pool for your clients, then for a fixed IP address create another IP dhcp pool.
Example, if your MAC is 12.34.12.34.12.34
    ip dhcp pool Client1
    host 172.23.12.200 255.255.255.0
    client-identifier 0112.3412.3412.34
Release the IP and renew IP address and IP address 172.23.12.200 will be assign it.
    Hope this helps.
    Regards,
    JC Arias

  • Address Leases shows empty

    Hi,
I am using Windows 2008 R2, In my DHCP server address lease box shows empty and filters,Rservations also not working.

    Hi,
If it is a newly created DHCP scope and can’t assign IP address to client, serval suggestions for you:
    1. If it is a domain joined DHCP server, make sure that DHCP server is authorized in Active Directory.
    2. Click IPv4 in DHCP console, make sure the State of the scope is Active.
    3. On DHCP client, type “ipconfig /release” and “ipconfig /renew”, force the client to renew IP address.
    4. Ping the IP address of DHCP server from client, check the network connection between them.
Here are basic troubleshooting steps of DHCP server, just for your reference:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc779112(v=ws.10).aspx
If the problem still exits, Are the DHCP server and client on the same subnet?  what is the properties of the scope? It would be helpful if you may post the TCP/IP properties of your DHCP server here.
    Best Regards,
    Eve Wang
