Rental Movie Expiration

I started to download a movie I rented through Apple TV last night. Since it took longer than expected to finish, I left the apple tv running in order to complete the download and went to bed, thinking I would still have 30 days to watch it after the download was complete.
When I got up this morning, it says that I only have 37 hours left to watch the movie before it expires? Any ideas?
Thanks!

It's actually 24 (not 48) hours...

"...you have 30 days to start watching. Hit Play, and it’s yours to watch as many times as you want in 24 hours...."
Actually, it depends on where you live (ie which is your local store) - some places have 24 hours some 48 hours to watch after starting.

Put it in DFU and do an update. This will not only update it, but it will remove all settings. DFU =  hold menu+play while plugging it in.

  • Remove expired rental movies on iPad

I cannot remove old (over 1 year) expired movies from my iPad.  The only place you can see them is in the drop down when the ipad is synced to itunes. They are greyed out.  if you click on the down arrow on a movie it takes you to ITunes store to purchase or rent again.  You cannot see them on the ipad through the Vidoe app/movies and they do not show on the tabs that you use to choose what you want to sync.  This is just bothersome becasue i like to keep the ipad clean.  Here is a screen shot  - might be helpful.  I updated to IOS 5.0.1 but I am sure that is not the problem. I have already tried a hard reboot without luck.

i have the exact same issue.
    set up is =>  ipad 2, ios5.01, itunes 10.5, osx 10.7.2.
six old rental movies show up on the ipad's drop down menu.  all are greyed out.  the only way to delete them is to check, in the summary page, the "manually manage music and videos" option.  once i do that i can delete the six old rental movies.  alas, the next time the ipad is connected to itunes, the movies show up again.  i tried to restore original settings for the ipad several times and that did not work.  i restored from backup, that did not work.
i should add that the rental movies do not show up on the ipad when launching the video app.  the only place they show up is on that drop down menu as described above.  to add insult to injury, i think the ipad is still trying to "download" the movies which is why now, and since i upgraded to ios 5, i can never complete the sync process (whether through the usb port or through wifi).  the sync process will always hang eternally at step 5 or 6 with the message "waiting for items to copy".
i think this is an ios 5 bug.  i have seen other discussions here that point to the same error, but with different causes such as voice memos, photos...   i believe old rentals fall in the same category.  although other users have found solutions to the hang sync by making changes to settings for voice memos, photos... unfortunately i have not found anyway of getting rid of the old rental movies as of yet.
    any help out there?

  • How do I get rid of expired rental movies that won't go away

I have three rental movies, one from September, that have viewed and/or the rental period expired. The movies say expired on the iTouch and won't play. They won't go away and their are consuming disk space. The don't show up in iTunes.
How can I get rid of them?

    Hello Bob,
    Try this:
    1. Open iTunes and have the device attached.
    2. Click on the iPod Touch device (whatever you named it) in the left hand panel.
    3. Click Summary.
    4. Check "Manually manage movies and music".
    5. Click the drop down arrow to the left of the iPod Touch icon.
    6. Click Rented Movies.
    7. Try deleting the unwanted movies again.
    See if that helps.

    Hi
My ipad has a message saying a movie rental has expired and I cant remove it, so am unable to use it. Can anyone help?

Hi there, this problem has probably been resolved now, but I must say that I came across these posts today as I had the same problem, my old e mail kept popping up, but all sorted now!  Old Apps are not tied to the old Apple ID, honestly!
Rudegar is so right, all you do is go the SETTINGS/iTunes & App Store, then select `Apple ID` `Sign Out` then you get the chance to enter your new ID, and it worked a treat!
Good luck with anyone else with this problem, as I spent so long on this, really stupid!
PS you`ll need to again verify bank details

I ordered a rental movie on my computer and want to watch it on my 1st generation apple TV and it is not showing up there...any suggestions?

I had same problem last night with a movie rental not showing up under the 'Rented' tab in iTunes/Movies on my iMac: as I had no other rentals, there was no 'Rented' tab at all.
In iTunes 11, the Downloads icon only appears next to the Search bar while there is an active download. Once any  downloads are finished, the icon disappears.  I had no icon so I had to assume the downloading had finished (in the previous UI you could check download progress even after they had finished).
My movie rental did, however, show up under 'Rented Movies' under the 'Movies' tab in iTunes/Devices/(select any i/device) so I knew it was somewhere in my iTunes.  Yet, we couldn't access it via Apple TV.
I fiddle around for a bit, restarting iTunes, restarting the iMac, to no avail.  Then I did a little housekeeping and moved a different movie I'd imported awhile ago, from the 'Home Videos' tab under iTunes/Movies.  Under File/Get Info, the 'Media Kind' was incorrectly set to 'Home Video' so I changed it to 'Movie'.  Thus the file was moved over into the Movies tab.  Hey Presto!  The Rented tab suddenly showed up, and there was my rented movie!
This is the second time a movie rental did not show up after downloading.  Unfortunately my husband initiated the download so we figured he must've messed up somehow as he's not as familiar with iTunes as me.  Hence we opted to download the movie under a different iTunes account, which worked the second time with no problem.  Needless to say the invoice for the original download had no problem in finding us, hence we were effectively being charged twice for the same movie!  We have to contact apple support (such a hassle) but hopefully they will understand the issue (that's the difficult bit) and they are usually good at refunding when they finally accept the customer is genuine in their claim.
In case anyone is tempted to critique my method, we download rentals through iTune on our computer as we had too many problems trying to rent via Apple TV.  Often the movie was not available to watch for many hours after it was rented, even though we'd start 'download' halfway through the day and sit down at night to watch it!  We have also had problems with movies that kept stopping during viewing because it wasn't streaming fast enough.  We'd give some time and come back to viewing, only to encounter the same.  One time we gave gave up and tried again the next evening, only to find the movie expired.  There is meant to be 48 hours after you've started viewing to resume watching a movie.  Apple's only response to this was to advise we needed a broadband internet connection to stream the movie - this was despite me already telling them we have broadband.
Anyway, I hope this helps anyone experiencing similar issues with movie downloads.

  • Rental movie on iPad

I have rented movie to go on my iPad - I sink my iPad with main computer and the rentals movie are gone on iPad and main computer that I rent them on. Where are they going? and how do I get them back on?   because I have never watched them yet  and have a good 22 or so day left before they expire. Is it my setting on computer or iPad? and I also have all the update on my iPad that are out at this point.

See my reply to your other post : Re: I cannot find my downloaded rental on my computer.

  • HT203180 How can I delete old rental movies that are still on my iPad, but no longer viewable?

How can I delete old rental movies that are still on my iPad, but are no longer viewable because the rental has expired?

I have a similar problem.  The default answer on the web is to open Videos on your iPad, then touch and hold the movie you wish to delete, then tap the little cross that appears. Alternatively, you can connect to iTunes, select your device in the list, scroll down to the Rentals summary and delete from there.
I have a problem with both of these solutions!  The Video App on my iPad does not contain any video icons, just an option to browse my shared library, so I can't delete it from there... ANd in iTunes, the movie in the Rntals tab on my device summary is greyed out, so I can't do anything from there either.  But the movie is taking up 2.5 Gb....
Can someone please offer an alternative to resetting the device entirely?!

    Hello chipotles
If the rental is not working, then follow the steps in this article to report an issue with your purchase. And then after that try the to rent the movie again.

  • Why can't i finish watching my rental movie

i cant finish watching my itunes rental movie why?

What problem are you having when you try to watch the rest of the movie?
What error message, if any, do you receive?
    Does this apply:
How long do I have to watch a rented movie?
You have 30 days from the time of rental to watch your movie, and 24 hours (in the US) or 48 hours (elsewhere) after you've started viewing to finish it. Once the rental period expires, the movie will disappear from your iTunes library.  from http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1657

PLZ HELP!

    Hello kmc78,
Thank you for contacting Apple Support Communities.
You don't provide a lot of detail about when you rented the movies, but this article might answer your question:
iTunes Store: Movie rental frequently asked questions (FAQ)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1657
    Specifically these two questions:
How long do I have to watch a rented movie?
You have 30 days from the time of rental to watch your movie, and 24 hours (in the US) or 48 hours (elsewhere) after you've started viewing to finish it. Once the rental period expires, the movie will disappear from your iTunes library.
    And:
What happens to my rented movie if I don't watch it?
If you don't watch your rented movie, it will expire in 30 days and disappear from your iTunes library. You will need to rent it again in order to watch it.
