Rental movies disappear

Version:1.0StartHTML:0000000149EndHTML:0000002904StartFragment:0000000199EndFrag ment:0000002870StartSelection:0000000199EndSelection:0000002870I just synced my phone again and BAM! Three of my rented movies just got wiped out AGAIN! (This is the second time since Apple restored the purchases for me)
And I never once tried to play them.
What is going on? I can’t seem to trust iTunes or my phone to hold onto rentals at all...
Cowboys and Aliens...gone.
Cedar Rapids...gone.
Super 8...gone..again.
Yet “Brainstorm” remains on my iPhone. It too is a rental but it never left ...yet.
And so I took a look back in my accounts to see what movies I haven’t watched:
The Wedding Crashers...gone.
The Women...gone.
Thor...gone.
Yikes! I forgot I even rented those.
Here’s two rental movies I gave up on entirely after they self-deleted, Apple restored the purchase and they deleted again:
Horrible Bosses...gone....restored by Apple ....gone again...
Your Highness...gone....restored by Apple ....gone again...
I’m afraid that I just can’t trust my iTunes not to delete the movies. So I can’t rent from the iTunes store.
I’m better off renting the movies at my local store and then ripping them to my phone. Not ideal but it gives me two advantages - a cheap rental and I can watch the movie over a longer period of time (often I get about 20mins a day to chip away at a movie so 2 days doesn't work well for me and seems a pretty silly time limit given I don't have to 'return' a physical disc)
It’s not like I don’t know how to use my phone.
I read every Mac article, magazine, and website devoted to Mac and iOS products there is.
People bug ME all the time to fix their iPhone, iPod or Mac.
This is very frustrating.

I have had the same problem crop up multiple times in the past two months including most recently watching the same thing happen on my daughter's iTouch.  My best guess is a loss of at least 4 rentals for me.  She rented 3 movies yesterday (12/26) and I literally watched as 2 of 3 movies just evaporated from her rental que without a trace on both iTunes and her iTouch during the sync process this morning (12/27). The movies were there, not watched and just disappeared.
I called Apple support when the problem first happened to me around the end of November.  Apple support could not find the problem, had no solution other than suggesting contacting iTunes for a refund.  iTunes support was good with providing follow-up in 48 hours and credit for the movies that disappeared.  However, the movies continue to disappear for no apparent reason.
The desire is to have a solution that allows the device to function as intended when watching rented movies on the iTouch.

  • HT1657 Rental movie disappears from PC after transfer and never shows up on iPad

Article says I can transfer movie rental from my PC to my iPad (1) and that it can only exist ion device at a time. I transferred the movie, it disappeared from my PC (in Rentals catregory), but never showed up on my iPad. What now?

Thanks for replying.  I tried your solution also but it didn't help.  Apple gave me a 2.99 credit to my account and told me to download it again. Next time I'll download it on the device I want to watch it on, so I won't have to worry about transferring it. Apple needs to make this whole process more user friendly. I am far, far from a novice, but I am a Windows guy, not a MAC guy.  Even so, I felt like a novice user having to hunt and peck just to be able to try and transfer the movie.  Once I did it, and I probably could not duplicate what I did because it was just luck, the movie disappeared.  I was surprised they came back with a credit so quick.  Thanks again.

  • Rental movies disappeared

    Hey all,
I rented two films (Gone Girl and Fury) however the films are missing and I have not watched them yet.
My computer froze the other day so I did a 'Time Machine' restore and the films have disappeared from my computer since...
Any ideas how I can get them back? I have done the obvious checks (Checked purchases, etc) and they are simply not there or anywhere to re-download.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!!
    Thanks,
    Tom

Rentals are a one-time only download, they won't show for redownloading. If they were not in the backup that you restored to then try the 'report a problem' page to contact iTunes Support : http://reportaproblem.apple.com
Or you can try contacting iTunes Support via this page : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption

  • Rented movies disappear off iPad before rental period ends

    Hi
2 of my rented movies (which had over 10 days left in the viewing period) randomly disappeared from the Videos app. I could see the movie covers in the Videos app, and then the app died. When I restarted the app, the "rental" tab was no longer visible. I cant seem to find the movies even if I connect the iPad back to my MacBook/iTunes
    Any similar experiences/suggestions?
    Thanks

    Hi,
According to the iTunes Help viewer...
"A rented item expires 30 days after you rent it or 24 hours after you begin playing it, whichever comes first. Expired rentals are deleted automatically"
If you had started then stopped the movie(s), then it's possible the rental time expired.

  • HT1551 I ordered a rental movie on my computer and want to watch it on my 1st generation apple TV and it is not showing up there...any suggestions?

I ordered a rental movie on my computer and want to watch it on my 1st generation apple TV and it is not showing up there...any suggestions?

I had same problem last night with a movie rental not showing up under the 'Rented' tab in iTunes/Movies on my iMac: as I had no other rentals, there was no 'Rented' tab at all.
In iTunes 11, the Downloads icon only appears next to the Search bar while there is an active download. Once any  downloads are finished, the icon disappears.  I had no icon so I had to assume the downloading had finished (in the previous UI you could check download progress even after they had finished).
My movie rental did, however, show up under 'Rented Movies' under the 'Movies' tab in iTunes/Devices/(select any i/device) so I knew it was somewhere in my iTunes.  Yet, we couldn't access it via Apple TV.
I fiddle around for a bit, restarting iTunes, restarting the iMac, to no avail.  Then I did a little housekeeping and moved a different movie I'd imported awhile ago, from the 'Home Videos' tab under iTunes/Movies.  Under File/Get Info, the 'Media Kind' was incorrectly set to 'Home Video' so I changed it to 'Movie'.  Thus the file was moved over into the Movies tab.  Hey Presto!  The Rented tab suddenly showed up, and there was my rented movie!
This is the second time a movie rental did not show up after downloading.  Unfortunately my husband initiated the download so we figured he must've messed up somehow as he's not as familiar with iTunes as me.  Hence we opted to download the movie under a different iTunes account, which worked the second time with no problem.  Needless to say the invoice for the original download had no problem in finding us, hence we were effectively being charged twice for the same movie!  We have to contact apple support (such a hassle) but hopefully they will understand the issue (that's the difficult bit) and they are usually good at refunding when they finally accept the customer is genuine in their claim.
In case anyone is tempted to critique my method, we download rentals through iTune on our computer as we had too many problems trying to rent via Apple TV.  Often the movie was not available to watch for many hours after it was rented, even though we'd start 'download' halfway through the day and sit down at night to watch it!  We have also had problems with movies that kept stopping during viewing because it wasn't streaming fast enough.  We'd give some time and come back to viewing, only to encounter the same.  One time we gave gave up and tried again the next evening, only to find the movie expired.  There is meant to be 48 hours after you've started viewing to resume watching a movie.  Apple's only response to this was to advise we needed a broadband internet connection to stream the movie - this was despite me already telling them we have broadband.
Anyway, I hope this helps anyone experiencing similar issues with movie downloads.

  • So, I rented a movie on iTunes and downloaded, and then when I went to click on it, it said iTunes server not available, so I reset my laptop, and it was there but when I clicked on it it said the same error again, the movie disappeared. What do I do?

I need help! I payed for this movie, and I don't know why it said can not connect to iTunes server, because this is not my first time watching a rented iTunes movie, and I usually do not need internet, or the need to connect to iTunes store, and the fact that the movie diappeared upsets me.. and it is nowhere in my iTunes library.  So, what happened, I clicked on the movie, it said cannot connect to iTunes sever, so exited out, and reset my computer, when it reloaded, I clicked on it again, and the same error message appeared, and then the movie disappeared.

    Hi runner_girl7585,

  • HT1657 I downloaded a rental movie utilizing my laptop.  When I went to find it via Apple TV, that is associated with my iTunes account, I couldn't see it.  This has happened before and it sort of popped up later.  No such luck this time.  Operator error.

Help Please!!!!  When I download rental movies from iTunes, via my MacBook Pro, I cannot see them to watch them on Apple TV or the MBP.  Is it me or something glitchy that I have no control over?  Thanks for your assistance.

    Hello FeedUpUser,
Thank you for the question.  When you purchase a rental, you can view it on one device at a time:
Can I play my rental on more than one device?
If you download a rented movie on your computer: You can transfer it to a device such as your Apple TV (1st generation), iPhone, iPad, or iPod if it’s a standard-definition film (movies in HD can only be watched on your computer, iPad, iPhone 4 or later, iPod touch (4th generation or later), or Apple TV). Once you move the movie from your computer to a device, the movie will disappear from your computer's iTunes library. You can move the movie between devices as many times as you wish during the rental period, but the movie can only exist on one device at a time.
If you download a rented movie on your iPhone 4 or later, iPad, iPod touch (4th generation or later), or Apple TV: It is not transferable to any other device or computer.

  • Rental movie...where is it?

frustrated... I cannot find the rental movie I downloaded 2 days ago... It did download, and I did see it then. But I was not able to watch it at that time. Now that I want to watch it, it seems to have disappeared.  I can't find a "rental tab" anywhere...? Where is my movie??

    Hello inapanik,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
If you need to locate a movie that you rented, please see the information below.  You have 30 days to start watching a rental movie, but once you start watching it, you have 24 hours to finish it.
    Find movies you rented previously
Find your movie on the device you used to rent it.
On a Mac or PC: Go to the Rentals tab in the Movies section of the iTunes Library.
On an iOS device: Go to the Rental tab of the Videos app.
Using Apple TV (2nd or 3rd generation): Look in the top shelf of the main menu.

  • How do I delete rental movie from my ipad.

How do I delete rental movie from I pad?

    Hello DAS.
Normally the rental will disappear after about 48 hours after viewing, but if you want to delete it now then check out the quoted section for the step by step process.
How to delete content you've downloaded from the iTunes Store, App Store, iBooks Store, or Mac App Store
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5772
If you delete a movie rental, you'll have to pay to rent it again—unless, of course, you rented the movie on your Mac or PC using iTunes and synced it over to your iPad. To delete a movie rental:
    Tap the Videos app.
    Tap Edit.
Tap the "x" on the movie rental you want to delete.
