Rental Movies on Mac & Apple TV

I rented a movie on my computer and then wanted to see it on my apple TV but the movie does not appear there. I checked the apple store / rentals but nothing appears.
For sure i am using the same Apple ID on Itunes in the computer and on the Apple TV.
Is there any one with a similar problem that can help ?

Put it in DFU and do an update. This will not only update it, but it will remove all settings. DFU = hold menu+play while plugging it in.

It sounds like you must have rented it again on your ipad.

Ok, so I transferred a rental movie from my Macbook to my iPhone, decided I didn't like it, so I tried to transfer it back to the Macbook. When I click on "Tranfer Purchases," both iTunes and the iPhone light up for a few seconds like they're about to do something, but then nothing happens. You have to transfer it back the same way you moved it to the phone. Go to the "Videos" tab for your phone in iTunes. Select the rental movie you want to move and click the move button, then click the Apply button.

Ah ... don't worry about answering I found the feature. For those with the same question click on Apple TV in device list - select movies tab - big box with your movie and a button labelled "move". Even for me it was obvious what to do next

This is bad - I have an Apple automated response that they got my report on 12/6, 12/10 and 12/14, and I haven't heard anything from them since the 6th when I got one reply that told me to do things I tried before reporting the problem. Between the 6th and 10th I replied to their response 4 times and they ignored me, forcing me to report a problem with two more items that wont download but getting no response.

Mr. Churchill - First, to answer your last questions:
Yes, the movie is fully downloaded, all 3.69 GBs.
No the Apple TV has 127.5 GBs of its 144.63 GBs free.
Second, I tried turning the Time Capsule WiFi rounter and Apple TV off (for at least two or three minutes, not the usual 10 seconds recommended) and I still could not move the movie.
Third, I severed the link and set it up again re-synced all 5,103 items back and still when I move the movies to the Apple TV box and Apply it, after 35 seconds it stops the sync and moves it back the the Rented Movies box.
Though I have set my Apple TV to sync with my MacBook Pro I cannot find a way to connect it to other than shared library, but not the "not shared library" (Is this what the Rented Movies are?). Is what Fletch is talking about int the "Rental Movies not showing up on Apple TV" discussion my problem and a solution?

there are three possibilities: you have not upgraded to version 2.0 or in Summary on the ATV device in iTunes, you should look whether you have it set up to only sync or otherwise disables movie syncing, or you have not paired your Mac to the ATV (on your tv, settings/computers/connect to itunes library - not shared library)

HT1657 I downloaded a rental movie utilizing my laptop. When I went to find it via Apple TV, that is associated with my iTunes account, I couldn't see it. This has happened before and it sort of popped up later. No such luck this time. Operator error.

If you download a rented movie on your computer: You can transfer it to a device such as your Apple TV (1st generation), iPhone, iPad, or iPod if it’s a standard-definition film (movies in HD can only be watched on your computer, iPad, iPhone 4 or later, iPod touch (4th generation or later), or Apple TV). Once you move the movie from your computer to a device, the movie will disappear from your computer's iTunes library. You can move the movie between devices as many times as you wish during the rental period, but the movie can only exist on one device at a time.
If you download a rented movie on your iPhone 4 or later, iPad, iPod touch (4th generation or later), or Apple TV: It is not transferable to any other device or computer.

I had same problem last night with a movie rental not showing up under the 'Rented' tab in iTunes/Movies on my iMac: as I had no other rentals, there was no 'Rented' tab at all.
In iTunes 11, the Downloads icon only appears next to the Search bar while there is an active download. Once any downloads are finished, the icon disappears. I had no icon so I had to assume the downloading had finished (in the previous UI you could check download progress even after they had finished).
My movie rental did, however, show up under 'Rented Movies' under the 'Movies' tab in iTunes/Devices/(select any i/device) so I knew it was somewhere in my iTunes. Yet, we couldn't access it via Apple TV.
I fiddle around for a bit, restarting iTunes, restarting the iMac, to no avail. Then I did a little housekeeping and moved a different movie I'd imported awhile ago, from the 'Home Videos' tab under iTunes/Movies. Under File/Get Info, the 'Media Kind' was incorrectly set to 'Home Video' so I changed it to 'Movie'. Thus the file was moved over into the Movies tab. Hey Presto! The Rented tab suddenly showed up, and there was my rented movie!
This is the second time a movie rental did not show up after downloading. Unfortunately my husband initiated the download so we figured he must've messed up somehow as he's not as familiar with iTunes as me. Hence we opted to download the movie under a different iTunes account, which worked the second time with no problem. Needless to say the invoice for the original download had no problem in finding us, hence we were effectively being charged twice for the same movie! We have to contact apple support (such a hassle) but hopefully they will understand the issue (that's the difficult bit) and they are usually good at refunding when they finally accept the customer is genuine in their claim.
In case anyone is tempted to critique my method, we download rentals through iTune on our computer as we had too many problems trying to rent via Apple TV. Often the movie was not available to watch for many hours after it was rented, even though we'd start 'download' halfway through the day and sit down at night to watch it! We have also had problems with movies that kept stopping during viewing because it wasn't streaming fast enough. We'd give some time and come back to viewing, only to encounter the same. One time we gave gave up and tried again the next evening, only to find the movie expired. There is meant to be 48 hours after you've started viewing to resume watching a movie. Apple's only response to this was to advise we needed a broadband internet connection to stream the movie - this was despite me already telling them we have broadband.
Anyway, I hope this helps anyone experiencing similar issues with movie downloads.

When you say tit only sees your music folder, are you saying it only sees your music folder or does it see other empty folders.

Thanks for the pointers folks. Yeah, 1.5GB is pretty poor isn't it? There are other suppliers, but you have to get a their phone line installed to access the internet so it's an £85 setup fee plus a day off work for a guy to come round and drill a hole in your wall before you even get to the monthly costs.
Don't get me wrong though - I'm certainly not an Apple basher, but am equally frustrated with both them and the ISP.
Virgin Media spend all kinds of money advertising their broadband as the fastest in the UK, but don't tell you (up front anyway) that you'll be cut off if you actually try and use it.
Apple on the other hand carry on with their 'it just works' mantra, but with Apple TV this only applies if you meet certain criteria (again, not mentioned up front).
I guess it aint a biggie, as i was gifted my Apple TV, and love all the other stuff it does, but from the number of posts on this forum can see that there's a lot of angry customers out there who want explanations as to why they're having similar problems to me.
Will be very interesting to see if Apple release any kind of software update that turns the flash drive from a buffer to permanent storage, to at least ease some of the pain...

Where are these movies? what format do they have?
You'll need to Import them into iTunes, and sync them through there if they aren't in itunes already.
Yoiu may need to convert them to a playable format for the iPad. If its a video format itunes support, you ncan make playable versions for iPad from within iPad.
Alternatively if you find a Video App such as Moli Player you can import them into the App through iTunes File sharing as well without having to change their format. Moli player is capable of playing many types of videos and audio formats.

Welcome to the Apple community.
If you rent a movie on the Apple TV, then it can only be watched on the Apple TV. If you want to watch movies on multiple devices, you need to download it to your computer, where you can then transfer it to other devices or stream it to your Apple TV as well as watch it from your Mac.

Is anyone else having problems playing rental movies to Apple TV

When I play a rented movie to the Apple TV it gets caught in the Loading loop and won't play, all purchased series and movies run OK. This started ever since iTunes upgraded.

Hi I have always made the rental on the computer and used Airplay to watch on the Apple TV, which is what I do for all the TV series I have purchased, e.g. Game of Thrones and others, they have and still work from the iMac to the Apple TV. I rented 2 movies and both will not play, they are recognised on the Apple TV and when I select them they start loading but the windmill just goes and goes and nothing happens. I just downloaded 3 episodes of Outlander and they work fine. It seems that it is only rentals.
