Rental won't play

Downloaded a rental movie on my MacBook Air.
Download completed. But when I try to play, it errors:
We could not complete your iTunes Store request.
An unknown error occured (-42110).
There was an error in the iTunes Store. Please try again later.
Gee. Not sure what it means by trying again later. Try playing it later? Delete it and try downloading it again later?
What's the best route to watching the movie, or ensuring I don't pay for a movie I didn't watch?
Any help would be welcomed.

Okay, fixed.
The solution was to delete the iTunes SC Info folder and reboot, as described in this article:

    I rented a movie three weeks ago. Last week, I bought a new-to-me (used) computer and transferred all my content to the new machine. I have purchased iTunes Match, and all my books and music and almost everything works. But when I tried to play my rented movie on the new computer, I got a message saying it wasn't authorized to play on this computer. It's the same Apple ID and all my other content works on the new machine.
    Brilliant me, I thought I would just delete it and download it again since I haven't watched it. Now it's just gone.
    Any ideas? I have another rented movie still in my rentals folder, but it won't play either.

    Yes, I am getting the exact same message. It says:
    Could not play the rental “The Cove” because it is authorized to play on another computer or device.

    I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store. 
    Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
    Find the items that are not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the items, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" links next to the items.

  • Rental won't play on second computer

    Hello,
    I just tried to download a rental film on my laptop and after a minute it crashed and won't download.  It keeps giving me the error (-50).  I logged onto my other laptop and it allowed me to download the film onto there.  It's fully downloaded and I clicked to watch it however it says 'authorised to play on another computer or device' and won't let me watch it.
    How do I fix this?  I can't download it on the initial computer and can't watch it on the second!! Grrrrr

    I've downloaded the movie successfully. It is not in my iTunes library but when I search using Finder, it says that it is there? (location says iTunes/iTunes Media/Movies/TITLE) When I click to watch via the route file in finder, it rediects to iTunes movie folder but doesn't play and it still isn't on the list.
    As it's a rental I'm sure that this will still be considered that I have started viewing so it will expire in 24 hours.
    Any way to fix this and to 'reset' this so I can watch it and not have my rental period finished?

    If you are in the states, you may be able to re-download for free. The file may be corrupted.

    I've been able to purchase and download iTunes movie rentals. However, when I click 'play' iTunes attempts to play the movie but it doesn't start. I don't get a playback window only the movie title in the 'play' pane. The counter does not run.

    I rented a movie last week and am having the exact same issue. I sent a support question thru the iTunes store and all I got back was a reply saying they would give me a refund, but no help at all with the problem.
    I ended up moving the rental to my iPhone and watching it lying in bed so I wouldn't have to end up going thru the whole process again.
    I sent a reply tonight telling them that I don't care about the refund, I just want some feedback on the problem so I know I can rent movies in the future.
    Trust me, I was this close to driving to Blockbuster to go get the exact movie that wasn't working!! Is it wrong to hope that more people are having this issue so it will actually be looked at by Apple?

    I started watching a rental movieon my ipad this morning on a plane.  It's been less than 24 hours, but the rental won't play.  It opens up and then says "cannot open".  How do I fix this?  If it's an account thing, my room at the hotel will charge me for a 2nd device, so I need to take it elsewhere to get a wifi signal.  This is an ipad 2 and I've never had this happen before.  It is within the 24 hours after I started watching it and I really do want to finish the film before it expires tomorrow.
    I've tried restarting the app.  I've done a hard reset twice.  What should I try now?  (The movie was downloaded directly onto the ipad; it was not transfered via itunes.)

    Un-sync all your music to remove it from the device, then restart (hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until you see the apple, then let go). Now re-sync your music.

  • Quicktime V7.4 won't play movie rentals

    I upgraded to QT 7.4 and now iTunes won't play my movie rentals. It just somes me the movie with no sound. I have even gone so far as to uninstall 7.4 and install 7.1, but then the movie won't play at all, just goes to the iTunes store and then stops, doing nothing. Can anyone help? Much appreciated.

    I was having the same problem but just found a solution for IE. You need to make sure the QuicktimeCheck Class addon is enabled. Tools>Internet Options>Programs>Manage Addons. (Addons currently loaded in Internet Explorer)
    I am not sure how this got disabled but enabling it got rid of the "Get the latest Quicktime" message and allowed me to view trailers once again.
