iTunes says i have rentals, but I don't know what they are!

is Netflicks a viable app for me to use?
It does not appear that Netflix has released their iPad app in the UK yet. You'll have to contact them and ask if they plan to release it anytime in the near future.
why are very few films availble for rent on the iTunes store?
Because that's all that the UK movie distributors have been willing to license to Apple for rental. Apple can't offer what they can't get permission for.

If you have anti virus software installed, disable that.
Turn off the Firewall in System Preferences > Security & Privacy
Check your internet speeds just in case > Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test
Try not using other applications that require downloading files while downloading media from iTunes.

Movie rental freezes, then cannot exit in fullscreen, then after forced restart I cannot find the rental in iTunes!

This has happened a few times before, and iTunes has always refunded me, but I am attempting to understand more about how to locate the rental on my computer or in my account in a way that will allow me to at least finish watching the movie!
I don't understand why this only seems to happen when the movie is in fullscreen.
After it froze, I couldn't move the player back into desktop mode and it wouldn't let me switch to another application either. The only thing I could seem to do was force re-start the computer. After that, when I opened iTunes, it no longer shows a link to the rental, nor can I seem to access it in iTunes.
I am sure there is a place somewhere on the computer where the file is, but I cannot think of where!
Can anybody help with troubleshooting?!

Doublechecking. Did you download the rental in iTunes for Mac, iTunes for Windows, or an iOS device?

No. Once downloaded to an iOS device it cannot be transferred to another iOS device or computer, & can only be watched on that iOS device.

If you downloaded the rental to iTunes, it will appear on AppleTV to play under Computers icon - a new Rentals section appears.
The movie must download completetly.
As a rental item can only be played on one device if you moved it to iPad you'd have to move it back to iTunes to see on AppleTV.

HD Rentals in iTunes please

I think I speak for a lot of people who use Macs (in my case, a Mini) as a home theater device, when I ask Apple to *PLEASE allow HD rentals via iTunes.* I realize the HD sales are limited to the AppleTV to drive sales of the device, but for my purposes the Mini is a superb home theater computer. I was elated when I heard that iTunes was offering HD movies, but then I found out that they were only available for AppleTV. Bummer.
It seems very un-Apple-like to make that decision, and I hope enough people ask to get HD implemented in iTunes. The AppleTV is a great device, but I already have a Mini, and it does everything I need.... plus I can log into it via screen sharing while sitting on the couch.
Opening up HD content to iTunes, even if it's Mac iTunes only, would make a lot of us loyal users very happy.

I don't know about the copy protection/encryption of the HD content. I've just been reading how rental content on Apple TV requires that the TV support HDCP. Google "Apple TV" and HDCP for plenty of reading.

It's possible that Apple could add HDCP support to the video cards in future computers, but AFAIK it requires special hardware. But speculating on future Apple plans is a no-no on the boards.

Was an internet connection available?
I'm not sure I would ever play a rented movie by mirroring from an iPad as mirroring is lossy and reduces quality.
It may actually not work via mirroring.

Rentals from iTunes on computer to AppleTV...??

I have recently bought a rental from iTunes using my Mac. I would now like to watch it via my AppleTV, but I am having difficulties getting this to work...!! Any advice...??

Have you updated iTunes? Also, have you updated Apple TV?- Go to Settings, general, update software on the Apple TV.
Just want to make sure you've done that first.
Next- you must set up your Mac, to either "pair" or to "share" content to the Apple TV.
If your Apple TV shows up in your iTunes Device list, then likely you've done this, however, go to this link to review, likely it will solve your problem:

It's important to note, that a "paired" computer, syncs content, and you do this as already described by others above. However, if your are set up to "share", that means you will stream the content (see support article link) If you are "sharing", the movie will NOT show up under APPLE TV on your iTunes device list, rather, simply leave the computer ON, OPEN iTunes, go to the APPLE TV, select "Movies" or "TV shows" and a new item will show up that says either- "shared movies" or "shared TV shows".
If it's a movie, pick "Movies", then "shared movies" - the movie you downloaded will show up, click it, play, and it starts streaming from the computer and playing on your TV. Important: this does not show up, unless the computer is ON, and iTunes is running.
If you don't want the computer on, then instead of "sharing" that iTunes library, you want to "pair" it. Pairing, syncs the content as already described by others.
Note: One computer can be "paired" and up to five computers can be set up to "share" with a single Apple TV at a time.
Likely, you have not updated all software, and or, this particular computer is not "paired" but rather set up to "share". This is fine, you can play the movie either way, you just have to know what the difference is.

Because the rentals have only a 24-hour playback period and were not able to watch the entire movie, then report the issue to the iTunes Store.

I have been experiencing long download times for movie rentals from itunes (this time 11 hours). I have even tried to use ethernet, turn off simultaneous downloads, and shut down my browser, to speed up the time but that didn't help. My internet download speed is about 7mbps. Any suggestions?
