Rented movie freezes, Rented movie freezes

I rented a movie, "the adjustment bureU"and it keeps freezing T a point in the movie. I have checked the Dow load screen in my iTunes and nothing is there. If I try to select a chapter ahead I am stuck on a blanco screen. I, then, have to open iPod and select a random music video to get off the blank screen. Please help??

Same thing has happened to me, too.  Only way out that I've found is to go the iPad search screen, enter the name of a movie you know works, go to that movie, then go to rentals and delete the rental movie.  Don't try to restart it fro the point of freezing, or from the beginning.  Just delete it.  Money down the drain.  If Apple wanted to address this little money-sucking bug, it would, but there's nothing official out there.  Many have experienced this problem.

  • Apple tv freezes when playing rented movies

This is a new issue for me. Every time I rented a movie from the Apple TV(3Gn) the movie doesn't download or freezes. Sometimes the Apple TV restart by itself. Also when I play movie trailers, sometimes it doesn't download the trailer completely.  I ran a speedtest and the downloads are above 20Gbps. By the other hand, Nexflix runs excellent without any problems at all. Please I need help to fix this situation. Thanks!

That may indicate interference. Netflix adapts to the connection whereas iTunes content is fixed. First try rebooting ATV and router. Make sure DNS is set to automatic (settings - general - network).
If on wifi try ethernet. Go to istumbler (Mac) or netstumbler (PC) to get a report, look for signal strength and noise.

  • Why is my itunes downloaded (rented) movie not playing correctly? It keeps freezing

I rented a movie through iTunes and am trying to watch it right now and it keeps freezing or playing the sound but not the picture...it's very frustrating and iTunes only gives you 24 hours once you play the movie to watch it before it is gone and I'd really like to watch it and not loose my money. Does iTunes have a better support system that allows me to talk to an actually Apple Tech??

I am having the same problem - it has happened to me twice now on different movies. The video player completely freezes and is useless until the movie that was playing expires the following day. Apple gave my a credit in iTunes, but I would like to be able to watch a movie all the way thorugh, not get another free movie that I can only watch for 10 minutes...

  • When watching rented movie the picture keeps freezing, in about 30 seconds it plays again

I just started have this same/simmilar issue to.  Was there a solution to the original question?  I have 2 ATVs.  One works without issue, the other... kicks me out repeatedly... to the point where the content will load for about 3 sec before kicking me all the way out.  Tried all the trouble shooting options including: checking latest software update, reset, hard restart, and checking router download speed (over 50 Mbps on speedtest.net).  Should mention this occurs most frequently when downloading Netflix content, but the same issue occurs downloading other content like PBS.

  • Rented movie but it kept freezing after one minute of play -help please

Rented a movie on Apple TV but it kept freezing after one minute of play - help please

Try waiting a few minutes, or longer, to see if the beachball goes away. Start up iTunes, then go do something else for awhile. Perhaps iTunes is going some overdue bookkeeping and once you let it do it it will work again.

  • HT1657 My download keeps freezing, and I have to buy it over and over again and it wastes money. I have now rented my movie 4 times and it still won't finish downloading. Why can't I get the rental for free if it keeps doing this?

MY DOWNLOAD KEEPS FREEZING AND I HAVE TO KEEP BUYING IT OVER AND OVER AGAIN. IT'S WASTING MY MONEY. I HAVE NOW RENTED MY MOVIE 4 TIMES AND IT STILL WON'T FINISH DOWNLOADING. WHY CAN'T I GET THE RENTAL FOR FREE IF IT KEEPS DOING THIS? CAN YOU PLEASE HELP? THANK YOU.

Please turn off your caps lock.  All caps indicates shouting, is considered rude and is difficult to read.  Many will not read such posts.
If it doesn't finish downloading then just click Store>Check For Available Downloads
There is no need to keep re-buying it.

  • Rented movies freezing on Windows 8

    Hi.
I just recently rented a movie through iTunes, and since I made the mistake to upgrade to Windows 8, the movie won't play now. iTunes will freeze, and it also freezes for trailers. I've tried turning off Direct3D Acceleration on QuickTime and did a couple of other things, but had no luck.
Is it just a compatability issue? Thanks.

Sorry mate, Im out of ideas Im wondering why the Win 8 installation failed two times.
Could it be a hardware problem? Well, this is not impossible but why does it work using Win 7? Strange
However, fact is that Synaptics driver works and should work for you too
There is a new BIOS update 6.50-WIN. This is for Win 8 system.
    Maybe you should try it.
Note: install all available Win 8 drivers released on the Toshiba EU driver page

  • Rented movie freezes half-way through?

This has happened to me several times. A rented movie will pause about half-way through playing and then refuse to play any more. I ignored the problem before, but am working on a movie review for school and really need to get this fixed! There is no error message, the movie simply freezes and will not progress past a certain point.

    1. You can only download purchased movies again for free if you live in the U.S.
    2. Not all movies are available for free downloads a second time
    3. Only certain movie studios allow this

  • Rented Movies freezing/skipping

Anyone else having issues with rented movies freezing and skipping like a bad DVD? It makes no sense, we wait for the movie to be 100% downloaded, then when we try to play it, it freezes, skips, etc.
I'm wondering if it has anything to do with the latest update.

Mine is doing the same thing... My factory reset takes me back to 1.0 so I have to update. Movies just lock up and if you give it 5 minutes the Apple TV will reset and you have to wait until it downloads all over again... Twice so far while watching State of Play! Going to try and get a refund since I am just going to rent it from Cox Cable, never had a problem renting with them... Now if I can only figure out how you request a refund.

  • HT1657 I have rented 2 movies on apple tv. Both of them stop frequently by freezing on the screen for extended periods. My time is running out. I've yet to watch a film right through as a movie experience. Is this something that often happends? Is it fixa

I have rented two movies on appleTV. Neither play all the way through. Both stop frequently and freeze for extended periods. It has been more than 10 hours since I downloaded them. What should I do to watch a movie all the way through? My tv is a year old.

    Hello there billytea,
From what you are describing here, it seems as though we may need to look into the network configuration. Here is an article named Apple TV (2nd and 3rd generation): Troubleshooting playback performance that I feel has great information about troubleshooting these types of streaming issues and recommendations to optimize it. You can find the article here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3623. First a bit about the minimum requirements for streaming HD and SD content:
    Broadband Internet connection
For the best viewing experience when renting or purchasing iTunes content on Apple TV, you need a broadband Internet connection. A sustained 8 Mbit/s or faster Internet connection is recommended for viewing 1080p high-definition movies and TV shows, 6 Mbit/s or faster is recommended for viewing 720p content, and 2.5 Mbit/s or faster for standard-definition content. Internet connection speeds may vary depending on your ISP and other factors.
If you are not sure what your Internet speed is, you can ask your ISP, or use an online bandwidth test from a computer that is located on the same network as your Apple TV.
If your internet meets these requirements I recommend following the troubleshooting in the article.
If streaming performance issues occur even with a high-speed broadband Internet connection, consider these suggestions:
    Check your home network
Along with a broadband Internet connection, your Apple TV also relies on a high-speed local network to play media content quickly and reliably.Wireless connectionWired (Ethernet) connection
To connect Apple TV to your network wirelessly, Apple TV requires a wireless router or Base Station that is 802.11 a, g, or n compatible for streaming video.
Your Apple TV should also be within a reasonable range of your base station or router, and in an environment with minimal wireless interference. To verify the strength of your wireless connection on your Apple TV, from the main menu, go to Settings > General > About
If you continue to experience slow playback performance when viewing movies and TV shows, connect your Apple TV to your local network via a wired (Ethernet) connection. If streaming performance improves noticeably, then you should consider updating or troubleshooting your Wi-Fi base station or router.
If you are connecting your Apple TV to your network via Ethernet, you should use a 10/100BASE-T or faster Ethernet network.
If you continue to experience slow playback performance while connected to your local network via a wired (Ethernet) connection, consider contacting your Internet service provider (ISP) to increase the speed of your connection. You can also reduce the video resolution of the iTunes Store content as is described in the next section.
    All the very best,
    Sterling

  • Itunes freezes if play a rented movie during download

I've been able to play a rented (purchased) movie befor the download was finished. Now, when I try to play it, iTunes freezes (it seems that the downloding continues in the background but the interface is all frozen. I have to Force Quit iTunes. This is starting to happend a few months before. Only Apple updates were installed latelly.
    MacBook Pro
    OSX 10.8.5
    iTunes 11.1.3

I have the exact same problem. Rented two movies, they downloaded in 25 minutes each. Went to play them over the weekend and my computer locked up, while the 24 hour clock was ticking. Had to go to task menu to end the program. Starting over yielded the same problem. The time ran out and movie was deleted but the charge was taken from my account. For the second movie I tried running it while I was logged onto iTunes. The same thing happened, only this time I had to eject from the program without being able to log off iTunes. VERY frustrating. Searched the iTunes help FAQs, blogs and forums and haven't found anything but your two postings. Does anyone have any idea how to solve this? And get our movies, or money, back? p.s. The purchased movies play just fine. NOT the rented ones.

    Hi HudsonPond,
I'm sorry to hear you are having issues with your movie rental. The following information should help you with this:
How to report an issue with your iTunes Store, App Store, Mac App Store, or iBookstore purchase
Find the email receipt for your purchase.
Click Report a Problem under the app that is having the issue.
When prompted, enter the Apple ID and password you used to purchase the item, then click Report a Problem.
Click Report a Problem next to the item you are having an issue with.
From the Choose Problem dropdown menu, choose the appropriate issue.
Follow the onscreen instructions and—if prompted—type a description of the problem into the text field.
Click Submit to have your issue reviewed.
    Hope this helps ....

  • Rented movie freezes part way through playback

I have recently purchased an Apple TV and have watched 1 full movie on it. Recently I have rented two other movies, the first at approximately 1m 40s and the second at around 24m of playback froze the playback and would not play any further in the movie.
The first movie I complained to Apple about and they have credited me and advised that there was an issue with the movie "not downloading properly" the second has just occurred so I haven't had a chance to complain about this.
Has anyone else had this issue occur for them?

are you guys watching TV late at night. I've noticed that the shows stop working at around 11 to 11.30 pm pacific time. I suppose that iTunes updates their catalogue to include the latest shows that are new and cleared for sale after the night's TV schedule. I think it's poor iTunes judgement to do that. Most people watch TV at night. They should update their catalogue some time in the morning hours.
I usually just unplug my apple TV, restart and then wait for a while to make it work.
If you guys get stuck because you put the show on pause then the remedy is to turn the screen saver off. Switch it to never because then when you pause and iTunes server goes out you don't have to re-authorize the show to continue watching it. That's if you purchased and the show was sownloaded to your apple TV
