Rented movie from atv back to computer

I read an article from apple insider that said you can't sync a movie from the apple tv to you computer. I spoke with an apple representative that said that is not true the movie will sync to the computer otherwise how could you put the movie onto your ipod and finish watching ?

Has anybody been able to watch a rental on Atv yet. I have tried twice and not been able. The first I started on Mac by mistake and the second sits waiting to transfer to Atv but I can't find the process to transfer. Got latest software on each. Am I waiting for this new (2 week) Atv update? Well I got 29 days left on my latest rental. So far Netflx by snail mail seems faster. I have had terrible download time with my DSL (average 7 hours) so far. Could be slow streams or DSL is too slow for movies, Anybody got download times with other modems?

How do I transfer rented movies from my ATV to my computer?

Pretty sure this can't be done. I think you can only sync purchased content from Apple TV back to a computer. When you rent a movie, Apple TV tells you that the movie can only be viewed on Apple TV.

  • Transfering movies from ATV to new Computer

I have the original ATV (actually 2 of them) and recently lost everything on my main PC that normally hosts my libraries.  I was able to recover a number of my lost files however I do have some purchased Movies on the ATV's that are not on my PC now.
When i go to synch the ATV's to the new iTunes library on my PC i get a warning that indicates everythign will be erased from the ATV.  Does this mean that I'll lose the movies that do not exist on the PC, or will it synch them up?
or is there some other action i need to take to save the moveis and ensure they dont get erased from the ATV's?

Movies that have been purchased on the Apple TV will normally transfer to iTunes, if they haven't they won't be erased when you sync with your new library. If however they have been transferred and are now on the Apple TV as a result of being synced back from your previous library they will be erased when you sync with a new library.

  • Renting movies from my ipod touch

I tried renting a movie on my ipod touch. I clicked "rent" which was interrupted by a new set of terms and conditions. After agreeing to the terms and conditions it told me to try my rental again so I did. My account has been debited for 2 movie rentals but I cannot find them anywhere. Also, I have not received any emails about recent purchases which I thought was curious. In the past I have rented movies from itunes on my computer and successfully transferred them to my touch, this is the first time I have tried to rent directly from my touch. Any ideas where my movie might be?

Pics and videos taken with the ipod are not part of the sync process at all.  This is covered in the manual.

  • Transfer Rented Movies from Apple TV V2 to Computer?!?!

I rented some movies on my Apple TV. Can I transfer them to my Mac that the Apple TV is synced with? I can't for the life of me figure out how to do this. I know that I can transfer rented movies from the Mac to the Apple TV, but the other way???
    Please someone let me know.

If you think you might need to watch your movie on anything other then Apple TV, rent it form iTunes on your computer. Once it is on your computer you can move it to an iPod, iPhone, and even Apple TV 2.0.
Under this system the only thing you can't do is have an HD rented movie on your computer. iPods and iPhones can't play that anyway. Yes, I think media giants sleep safer when HD movies are not on peoples "corruptible" computers and safe and sound on an "appliance".
The only way to make this any easier would be to allow SD rentals to transfer back to a computer but not HD. I think that would just add another layer of confusion.

  • How to get rented movie from iphone to computer?

    hello,
thanks for taking the time to look at my post. I'm trying to figure out how to get a rented movie from my phone to my computer. when I plug my phone in to sync...and go to rented movies...the movie is listed there, but is grayed out.
    any help would be appreciated.
    thanks,
    steve

Sorry, but Johnathan's answer is not correct. You can easily move your rented movie from your iPhone back to your Mac.
    1) Connect your iPhone to your Mac and open iTunes.
    2) Click on the the icon for the iPhone.
    3) Click on the tab marked Video.
You will see a list of rented movies on your Mac and another list of rented movies on your iPhone. Each movie will have an arrow marked "Move" next to it pointing to the other device.
    4) Click on the arrow marked "Move" to transfer the rented movie from your iPhone back to your Mac.
    5) Click the "Apply" button at the bottom right hand of your screen on iTunes. Your iPhone will then sync and the rented movie will move to your Mac.
You must be connected to the internet to make this work, as iTunes will connect to the iTunes Store to validate the transfer.

  • HT1933 Why is it that I rented a movie from iTunes on my computer but it is not showing in my Apple TV to view

Why is it that I rented a movie from iTunes on my computer but it is not showing in my Apple TV to view

    Hello Amy,
You can but the method varies depending on the Apple TV that you have.
From the article How to rent a movie from the iTunes Store on your computer found here http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1390:
To rent movies from the iTunes Store on your computer
In iTunes on your computer, click iTunes Store.
In the iTunes Store, find a movie you want to rent.
Click Rent. Your rental should begin to download immediately.
Once the rental is downloaded, you can watch it on your computer or transfer the rental to a supported iPod, iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV (1st generation):
Connect the device and select it in iTunes.
    Click the Movies button.
Select the movie, and then click Move.
After all movies have been moved, click Apply in the lower-right corner of iTunes.
You must be connected to the Internet to transfer a rented movie.
If you have Apple TV 2nd gen. or later you can use Airplay to play it on your tv through the Apple TV.
Here is the article to help get that setup and going.

  • How do i send a rented movie from my computer to apple tv?

I rented a movie from iTunes on my computer, but I want to watch it on my Apple TV. The rental shows up in my "rentals" category on my computer, and is finished downloading. The Apple TV is linked to the same Apple ID as my computer, and Home Sharing is enabled (and works just fine for music, movies, etc that I own and have saved in my iTunes library).
This is a 2nd gen Apple TV (fully updated), and my computer is running OS X 10.6.8 (ie. also fully updated) with iTunes 10.4.1.

I expected that it would show up in Rentals, but there was no such category.
Eventually I figured it out. The rental had not actually finished downloading to my computer because, right at the end, error 5103 occurred. A quick Google search pointed me to http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1597, and I followed those directions. From there, the download immediately finished, and showed up promptly in Rentals on the Apple TV.
So, for future reference, a movie rented on a computer cannot be streamed to an Apple TV until it is finished downloading. Learn something new every day, I guess.

  • I am getting the following error during the play of a rented movie from my MacBook that i am trying to watch on AppleTV Could not play the rental "A Thousand Words" because it is authorized to play on another computer or device." any ideas?

I am getting the following error during the play of a rented movie from my MacBook that i am trying to watch on AppleTV Could not play the rental “A Thousand Words” because it is authorized to play on another computer or device." any ideas?

Rentals can only play on one device/computer at a time.  Have you tried to play on the computer and still have that window open?
Have you transferred the rental to iPod/iPhone or iPad to watch?

If you have an Apple TV, you can move the rented movie there to watch it. There is no way I know of to do a true stream of a movie rented from the iTunes Store, nor can a movie from there be played on anything other than an Apple device or in Apple's software.

  • Moving Rented movies from computer to ipod

I need some help. I have a one year old ipod classic.
I cannot seem to move rented movies from my computer to my ipod.
When I plug my ipod to my computer and hit the movie tap, I do not see the movie.
The move is showing on my computer, but it does not give me a choice to move it to my ipod, like I have seen on other help sites.
Do I need to turn something on my ipod?
I have loaded TV shows to the ipod and watched them, but I cannot move the rented movies.
I checked to see if I have the updated software, and I do.
Can anyone suggest what I am doing wrong?
    Thanks

    Hi,
The iPod you have (incidentally, the same one I have) can essentially watch TV shows, Movies, and Music Videos, but no rental movies. I was met with the same disappointment when I discovered I cannot put rented movies onto my iPod. It is sort of a shame, as I'm not entirely convinced there's a hardware element missing from my iPod preventing this from being supported.
Sorry I didn't have better news for you. You might want to consider emailing iTunes Store support and seeing if there's some way they can compensate for this, as the file purchased is not compatible with your device. Since the files are set to disappear after a certain amount of time within beginning playback, I'm almost sure they'd be able to determine whether you've viewed the movie yet.

  • Can I transfer rented movies from one computer to another?

I am posting this message as every time I try to transfer rented movies from my PowerBook to my iPod get the following message.
Attempting to copy to the disk "Michael Graham's iPod" failed. The disk could not be read from or written to.
I have gotten this message with an iPod Classic, as well as an iPod Touch, so don't think it is the iPod, but can not be sure of that. Also have posted a message about this in past, but none of the suggestions seemed to help. In addition Apple seems to be no help. In any event if I use my dad's Mac Mini to transfer the rented movie I do not get this message. In any event I just wonder if their is any way to transfer rented movies from one my laptop to his desktop, so I then came transfer to my iPod Touch.
    Thanks in advance

  • Can I use home sharing to watch a rented movie on itunes on another computer

can I use home sharing to watch a rented movie on itunes on another computer (I already have home sharing with other computers set up, but I don't see it.)?

Please be aware of the movie rental's time limitation that you have 30 days from the time of rental to watch your movie, and once you start watching it, you have 24 hours to finish watching it. You may watch it as many times as you like during those 24 hours. It may be helpful to make sure the download completes successfully before you begin watching the movie.
Once the download is complete you can watch it without an Internet connection. However, an Internet connection to the iTunes Store is required to authorize playback or activate the 24 hours time-limit of movie rentals. This means, only during the starting of the movie. Once you have started playing the movie rental, internet connection is not required. You can play anywhere without internet connection.
You may need to validate the rental prior to watching so it starts the rental period timer and for that you will need an internet connection. You can probably do that by starting the rented movie while on the Airport Wifi or right before leaving home. You'll have 24 hours to watch the movie after you start it.
For more information on movie rentals, you can visit:

Note: 24 hours time limit is for United States customer only, while 48 hours for other countries.

Using iPhone, iPad, or iPod with multiple computers - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1202 - You can manage your iPhone, iPad, or iPod with multiple computers as long as you have set the device to "Manually manage music."  -  e.g. adding music from a second computer to an i-device.
Hold on.  I don't know if the above will work with a rented movie.  There's all kinds of restrictions on what you can do with rented movies.
