Rented movie on imac unable to watch on 2nd gen apple tv

I rented a movie on my imac through itunes. I would now like to watch that movie through apple tv (2nd generation), however the rented movie does not appear on apple TV. I only seem to be able to stream movies from my imac to apple tv that I have purchased. Is this correct, you can only stream purchased movies from imac to apple tv (2nd generation) not rented ones. thanks

I have played around with this for a while and am pretty sure you can't stream movies rented on an Imac via itunes to your apple TV (2nd generation). This is really annoying as I have a slow internet connection and being able to store rented movies on my imac would be really good. Why doesn't apple allow this I wonder?

  • How do I MOVE photos from my mac to my 2nd gen apple T.V.

I want to be able to view my photo's when my computer (library) is off, as opposed to the only thing that I seem to be able to do right now which is view the photos as 'shared'

You can't move them permanently as AppleTV 2/3 have no proper storage.
They have some solid state memory to which photos get copied temporarily  according to iTunes Advanced tab settings.

When the movie finishes downloading it will be in the videos app on the iPad. You don't watch the move in iTunes.
Do you see a download tab in the iTunes Store at the bottom of the screen? If you tap that, it should take you to the downloads section and you should see the movie icon and the download progress bar.

That is why I said to restore via iTunes, did you check the link?
This will put it back to factory settings and you can set it up with the new ID once you reconnect with your HDTV. This is not done via ethernet, as per the link you need to connect to the computer via micro usb. You cannot bypass home sharing.
FYI: An Apple ID cannot be deleted so the old one would still exist (even if you no longer use the email account it is associated with).

the wifi router could also be blocking
and to really test if the windows firewall is the problem then try turning it off!
if that scare you too much then disable the internet modem / cable modem or the likes while you test
always remove more and more factors when troubleshooting sooner or later it will work and you can narrow down which factor did the job and work on that

  • Rented movie on iMac, but need to xfer to macbook to hook up to TV

    Hi,
I just rented two itunes movies on my iMac. I thought I could later share or move them to my wifes macbook which is what we use to hook up to the TV. However, it appears I can't move movie rentals between computers. What gives?
Can I get apple to reimburse me so I can rent them again on the other machine if thats what I need to do?

  • Using Apple TV. I can watch a movie preview but unable to watch movie because DCP compatible. Why?

I can watch the preview but says can't purchase the movie because it is not HDCP compatible. Why?

Apple are not here, only fellow users. It's not Apple's choice as to what films are available for rent, it's the film studios that specify which countries Apple can have their films available for sale and/or rental and in what format (HD and/or SD).

  • HT1498 rented movie on iMac how can I play on apple tv ?

rnted movie on imac, how can I play on apple tv

iMac need to be on with iTunes running and Home Sharing enabled on the imac and AppleTV.
Provided the movie has FULLY downloaded to the imac you should be able to play it on AppleTV using the Computers icon.  The iMac may say it's ready to watch but it won't show on AppleTV until fully downloaded.
Under Computers you will have options for Movies, TV Shows etc.
Select Movies and any available rentals will be seen in a Rentals row that appears only when a valid rental is available to play.
Do not try to play from the main menu movies icon (logical if it allowed you to but it won't!).

  • HT1657 my rented movie is gone without being watched

Several days ago, I rented the Nutty Professor.  We have not started it nor has 30 days passed, however, it is gone.  I want to know how o resolve or to receive a refund.

How long do I have to watch a rented movie?
You have 30 days from the time of rental to watch your movie, and 24 hours (in the US) or 48 hours (elsewhere) after you've started viewing to finish it. Once the rental period expires, the movie will disappear from your iTunes library."

  • Rented movie...how to watch it on appletv??

I rented a movie a few days ago. It is listed on my itunes Library/rented movies.
I am trying to watch in on my apple tv. Tried syncing it...nope. Tried finding a video tab under drvices/appletv...not there.
Just how do i get my movie into apple tv???

Yes the Help file says it is possible, ready for when it is actually possible.
They could have waited to update the help info until after the Apple TV 2.0 software was released, but that would have required yet another iTunes update just to change the help info.
Just be a little patient, a simple look at the Apple Web Site, specifically this page, make it very clear :-

  • Watch a rented movie once, then can't watch it again within the 48 hrs

    This doesn't seem right.
I paid for a rental and downloaded a movie. I could start watching within about a minute, it played without skipping a beat.
My wife started watching the movie the next night and got about half way through.
The next day, she tried watching the rest, and selected the film and clicked on "resume watching".
But instead of streaming and playing like it should, we got the spinning wheel of death followed by a message "The movie will load in a minute" which soon became "the movie will load in 2351 minutes"!
Additional information that I can add is that it was Sunday afternoon which is peak time for internet usage and I'd just exhausted my data allowance before the speed limiting kicks in. Basic internet using browsers at that time was really slow.
So it was as though the movie we were going to resume watching was going to be downloaded from the iTunes Store again. I thought you downloaded a rental to your hard drive and it deleted itself after it expired? So any subsequent streaming to AppleTV would be coming direct from your hard drive. It shouldn't have been affected by the speed of my internet connection at that time, surely. Anyone else experienced this?

  • How do I watch rented movies that I downloaded to iTunes on a 2G Apple TV?

I purchased and downloaded 2 movies to my iTunes on my MacBook. I am able to transfer them to my 1st generation Apple TV's or my iPad or iPhone. But, when I try and figure out how to watch on my 2nd Generation Apple TV I am having no luck. Is it not possible once you have downloaded the movie?

It is wierd that Apple wants you to use iTunes for everything regarding content on our iDevices but then they add a Video App to the iPhone, iPad and we are just supposed to understand after years of training to use iTunes that our purchased videos are here and not in iTunes.
I initially assumed that the Video App was for watching videos I shot using my camera app.  But noooo!!, They are in the Camera Roll.

  • If I rent a movie via iTUNES on Mac, how can I view the movie on 2nd Gen Apple TV?, If I rent a movie via iTUNES on Mac, how can I view the movie on 2nd Gen Apple TV?

After several attempts of renting a movie directly on Apple TV (kept getting error for password that was entered correctly), decided to rent directly on the computer and watch via Apple TV.  I go to Apple TV and my library is available (home sharing on) but don't see the rental anywhere.  Do I need to move it on my computer from rentals to somewhere else?
    Thanks!

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Movies rented on the computer need to be fully downloaded before they will show up on the Apple TV.

  • HT204370 cant view movie on Apple TV 1st gen that i purchased on 2nd gen apple tv

I purchased a movie on my second Gen Apple TV and when I try to watch it on my 1st Gen Apple TV I get a message that my apple tv is not authorized to play this content!!! Not good...!!!

    This should happen automatically.
ctrl-click on the Apple TV in the iTunes list, you should get an option to transfer purchases, if not or choosing it doesn't help you may need to re-pair the Apple TV with your library, settings > computers > iTunes library and disconnect, this will erase synced content but not purchased content that hasn't transferred, to reconnect settings > computers > connect to iTunes (not shared library).

  • 2nd Gen Apple TV - movies start to stutter after approx 10 minutes

Hi - i've been using the 1st gen Apple TV without problems for years and just switched to the new model. I am running a wired network connected to an apple airport extreme router. Everything works fine with the old apple TV but when i try to watch local iTunes content with the new apple TV, the content start to stutter like crazy after approximately 10 to 15 minutes. When i plug in the old apple TV and try to play the same content, everything works like a charm. So it must be something related to the new model and has nothing to do with my setup, which works perfectly with the old device.
I've noted that the stutter seems to start as soon or shortly after the whole movie has been fully "cached" onto the device. When this happens i have to jump out of the movie, pick it again and then i can watch just fine until the whole movie has loaded again and the whole stuttering problem starts again.
This is driving me nuts. I've gone back to the old device until Apple can fix the problem. Does anyone have the same issues ?
    Thanks
    Marc
