RENTED MOVIE PLAYING TOO SLOW

hi All,
After several million hours (well 3.5) spent downloading a movie (Domestic Disturbance) I play it only to find it is playing very slow and the actions don't match the audio. It is really irritating and impossible to watch. I tried cleaning out my computer to free up space to no avail.
I then put the movie on my external hard drive to play on my other better laptop but when I opened it it would not let me play it saying it was authorized to play on another device...grr
Any advice anyone????

ANYONE?????

  • Audio track in movie plays too slow

Only when I play it on my iPod touch after converting it like all of my other movies, the audio lags behind. But when I watch the converted file on my computer, it's up to speed. Any solutions? Both my iTunes and iOS are up to date. I have an iPod Touch 4G 32GB. And I use Xilisoft video converter. Thanks.

If the film has different audio options then you should get a speech bubble icon on the left-hand end playback controls on it : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5562

  • Rent Movies, Even With Slow Connection?

With the new Apple TV, is it possible to rent Movies even if you have a really slow (e.g 0.5Mbps) internet connection?
If you start a rental in the morning, and leave it downloading all day, will the Apple TV automatically use its 8GB of cache to store the file so that it will play continuously from start to finish, without needing to stream?

Funnily enough I've not rented anything on it yet, but I firmly believe it will load the whole movie into the solid state buffer. If it did not do this people would be very frustrated if they decided to go back a couple of chapters after the phone rang for instance and they forgot to pause.
Until I try a rental I can't say for certain, but it would seem quite illogical (which is no guarantee) not to store the whole rental on the unit to allow for predownloading on slower connections but also for replay and chapter selection/skips/ff/rw purposes during the rental playback period.
The big unanswered question for me (maybe someone else has figured out by now) is how the 8GB of solid state memory is dished out and what purges existing content in the solid state memory.
For example - a single HD rental should fit in that 8GB, possibly two. However say the user has 2GB of photos streaming, do they have priority for memory usage ovr rentals or vice versa? The iPad has a 16GB limit for photos (or did in older OS), even on a 32GB/64GB machine, so maybe only 1-2MB is reserved for photo caching on ATV2, maybe the whole 8Gb is available, who knows?
Certainly local media from iTunes seems to cache to the unit, and quicker than ATV1, so the danger if the memory management is illogical is that any activity you do while caching an HD rental could potentially flush the cached rental in order to play the local media, but this would be daft and I hope they would reserve enough solid state memory for the rental and force the local media to cache in a smaller segment even if it meant repeatd cacheing to watch the whole thing (done transparently to the user).
What if you rent two HD movies?
Does the first download to the cache then the 2nd?
    Do they download concurrently?
If they're too big for 2 in the cache does 1 of them flush the other rental out to maker room?
IMO this is all a bit vague and unpredictable.

  • How to do I have my rented movie played from iTunes? I paid for it and the last time I checked, it was still downloading

I rented a movie called "Holes" from iTunes. I paid for it with my iTunes gift card. It took a long time to download the movie, so I went and took a nap. I woke up and tried to play the film and it will not show. It doesn't even show I purchased it nor does it show it's available to rent. The balance on my gift card shows the movie was paid for. Where is my movie? How do I play a rented movie I purchased for on iTunes?

All purchases are considered final, but you can try contacting iTunes support and see if they will grant you a re-download or credit you : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Purchases, Billing & Redemption
If you are on a very slow connection and it's going to take longer than 24 hours (48 hours if you aren't in the US) to download a rental then don't start playing it until it's completed downloading - the 24 or 48 hour countdown starts as soon as you click play.

  • HT2666 Why won't my rented movie play?

I'm  trying to play my rented movie for a second time within the 48 hour period in Australian, but when I click play, nothing happens, over and over.  Tried turning it off and on etc.  Anyone have any fixes for this?

I probably should add to it's on my apple tv.  I'm a savvy user, so the normal answers probably won't help as I've already tried everything obvious.

  • Animated Gif's Playing too slow

Lately since I installed leopard animated gif's are showing up on safari too slow and its not on one site its everywhere! And I need to see the real speed of what the gif is or else I won't know if its wrong or not. So what do I do?

Same problem here, very frustrating. The same thing also happens on my MacBook with Tiger. The longer the animated GIF is, the more it slows down. Here's a good example, fine in Firefox but not Safari: http://content.ytmnd.com/content/6/a/0/6a0e42120c9f9e24dfc3bfa353ccd114.gif
I submitted this as a Safari bug a while ago, I hope all of you will too.

  • Slideshow plays too slow

In Settings-Photos I set "Play each slide for 2 seconds" but they are playing for 5 seconds. When I set it to 5 secs, they play for about 8. Is the transition adding 3 secs?!! I want to share photos with friends, and 5 seconds is way too long. I can't even turn the transition off.

If it makes you feel any better, I have the same problem. My audio is slow or sometimes I get music & no lurics (or on videos I get the background music & no dialog). I tinkered around once & got it fixed but now the problem has resurfaced. If there is an answer out there I'd love to hear it! (I have tried resetting)

  • Rented movies are too dark

As I'm typing this I'm watching Gran Turino on my TV from my iPod classic. But the movie picture is too dark. I can't see any of the faces of the actors. I turned my TV brightness all the way up and it doesn't help. Is there a setting on my iPod to fix this? I've had this same problem on others movies in the past. I just can't seem to brighten them up. Thanks in advance!

I've been trying the tip given by the above poster. I have looked through my whole iPod and I can not find what they are talking about. When I double click the center wheel it comes up with a progress bar for the movie and nothing to adjust the brightness.
    Any other ideas?

  • My iTunes rented movie plays for 24 seconds and then Windows 7 says it needs to close down the program. Help.

The movie is downloaded, I know where it is, I can start in different chapters, but it only works for 24 seconds before it shuts down and I have to close the program.  I have uninstalled iTunes, Quick Time and downloaded and installed after restarting my computer.  How can I watch the movie?  In the past, it has worked, but this is the second time I try and I just lose my rental. Please help.

Ok. So I created a new account and iTunes did work. I went back into my original account and tried again and just to be more clear, after I open iTunes it asks me to accept or decline the agreement, I do that, then it says "updating library", and then one all the bars are full it closes and says "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close."
okay, let's start working through the user-account-specific causes of this message.
one possibility is damaged itunes preference files in the user account in which you're getting the crash. (there's a different set of those in each different user account, which is how we can get crashes limited to a single user account.)
if that is what is going on, we can often get past this by rebuilding the preference files in the account that is crashing. for the preference files rebuild technique, see my reply to kusma in this post:

  • Encoder movement response too slow

I have a USDigital QSB-D USB/serial encoder which uses a serial uart interface at 230.4 kb/s, 8 bits, no parity, 1stop bit.  The USDigital driver (USDQSB.dll) allows me to open/close and read/write to registers and provides get/set functions to set specific modes.  The driver provides StreamEncoderCount function which takes threshold and intervalRate parameters.  The threshold specifies count changes to trigger transmission and the intervalRate is time interval between transfers.  In the attached VI I am attempting to use the StreamEncoderStatus() function to wait for the encoder index pulse which indicates the encoder has passed zero counts.  When the index pulse is detected I would like to use the StreamEncoderCount function to retreive encoder counts as rapidly as possible.  I am setting the threshold to 0 so it will read the count even if it is not moving and intervalRate to 1 which should be sending count value at 1.9 msec intervals.  The for loop count ie 100 which should take 190 msec to read at 1.9 msec.  The for loop takes over 3 sec which means that the sample rate is over 30 msec instead of 1.9 msec. I am using a notification to notify another the other while loop which plots the results.  Everything works as intended except for the slow response of 30 msec per sample instead of 1.9 msec.

I was not able to find your dll benchmark application to do that test but I am beyond that now.  I have found the correct function to read streamed serial input from the encoder which is the USDQSB.dll function: GetCountWithTimeStamp() which apparently just reads the streamed serial input and does not query the count register repeatedly.  The attached QSBEncoder3.vi uses that function and performance is as expected.
I have rewritten the encoder application to use the VISA driver.  The encoder is automatically recognized as a serial device by VISA and assigned the instrument ID: ASRL3::INSTR.  The attached QSBEncoder4.vi attempts to access the encoder using VISA but I don't get any response from the encoder serial port.  Any ideas on what I am doing incorrectly?  I am able to access the encoder using the VISA interactive control but when using the LabView QSBEncoder4.vi application I don't see any input coming from the ASRL3::INSTR  device.

  • Movie render too slow in After Effects CS4

I have Mac Book with 2 .0 G RAM running AECS4. It took 2 hours to render a project with 30 second and It's only use 10 - 20% of 2.0 G RAM in the Render Queue. What can I do to make it render faster ?. Please help me , Thanks very much

okay this is annoying, I have a 1.7ghz processor , and 1.25gb of RAM with a GForce2.0 video card.  yes i know its most certainly not the fastest computer, but it works. also, it came from a special place, fallen from heaven and left at the dump. yup, thats where i got it. straight out of the magic box of old and abandoned technology.  unfortunatly it wasnt quite working at the time, it needed a new power supply and hardrive, bc the old one was infested with earth link and only had 10mb out of 40gb left in it. anyway thats beside the point, what my point is, id like to know what kind of hardware i could put in my computer to making it quick render things when im still in the editting project, of course im new to after effects and dont know much, but whenever im actually having some fun and making some interesting stuff, the program just doesnt want to keep up. so id like to know if i should get more RAM for it or get a multi core processor, or maybe even a more suitable video card,      and if nothing else would work. just a new computer. also id like to know if i over clocked my processor a bit, would that help the speed of like my computer quick redering stuff,   it came with a high performance neon fan (very loud) so i think i can overclock it, just dont know if it will help.     by the way its a Dell 8100     if ud like to look up the specs on microsoft, but its modified a bit.

  • Rented movie won't play "not compatible with Apple TV"

Using my apple tv, i rented a movie from the iTMS. When I try to play it I get an error message saying it can't be played because it's incompatible with Apple TV.
Troubleshooting: I unplugged the ATV for more than 5 minutes and replugged it. I checked to see whether purchased music still plays (it does) and whether purchased tv shows still play (they do). I can also go to iTMS and view previews of movies.
So everything seems to be working, except this movie. (I have two other rented movies but they don't expire for a couple weeks; this one expires in 22 hours so it's sort of imperative i view it today or lose it, and i can't do the one final test -- see if the other rented movies play ok -- because then the 24-hour ticker on those would start, and i'd have only enough time to watch one of them, and not the one that's already set to expire in 24 hrs.
ironically, the only support thread i could find on this particular error message for apple TV-acquired media, involves this same movie, "An American Rhapsody". That question was posted more than a year ago and never was resolved. (see http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1492298)
It's a little frustrating that the only apple support i could find for this issue is email support, promising me an answer within 24 hrs. So it's unlikely an answer will come in time. Maybe they'll help arrange a credit to my account after the fact. But (and i'm a big fan generally of apple and apple support) it seems like there ought to be customer service to cover the situation where someone buys (in this case, rents) something and can't get the promised product.
I've spent 90 minutes trying to solve this and the friend who was going to watch it with me just left, but i'm still curious to see if anyone can propose a fix. thanks!

you should use the "report a problem" link that is on the email invoice you get.
this will take you to the itunes section to report an issue with a particular purchase.
or go to "view my account" in itunes and then choose "purchase history"
if it didn't work you'll most likely get a refund.

  • Rented movies do not play in iTunes.

Its just a black screen and the time counter wont move. The rented movies play fine on my iPad, also purchased movies/tv-shows plays fine. This all happened after installing Lion. Someone with similar experiences? Or with any sollutions?

You did try tapping on one of them in that list in the iPod app! This has happened to me and I was able to start the movie from there. You could try restarting the iPad, go into the iPod app and try again.
Now I'm stumped unless it is a corrupt download. You did download right onto the iPad - correct? If you downloaded in iTunes, there is a Move tab or function that you have to select to transfer the movies to the iPad when you sync. They just don't sync over without selecting move.

  • Sound plays too loud

Sounds embedded in flash movies play too load. The Windows
gain settings in Master Volume and Wave have to be adjusted all the
way down and even then some sounds are distorted (as if they are
being played too loud) even though the sound is low volume.
It is as if a gain setting is getting set too high by
    default.
This happens on some XP SP2 computers but not other XP SP2
    computers.
Might be sound card related. It happens on nVidia nForce2
    MCP-T (latest version of driver).
I tried embedding wav instead of mp3. I get the same effect
but at least the wav sound doesn't distort so badly that it can't
be fixed by turning down the master volume.
Please let me know if I need to post more information about
    the problem.

You can reduce the "Wave" Volume to half or below to leave the master volume the same level, that will solve the Volume problem.
    http://www.cisco.com/image/gif/paws/23502/VMOAudioSettings-1.gif
For the scroll sensitive: you can also reduce this in the system preferences, but its is still not the same feel like in OSX.
Thats how I kind of solved these issues.
